Just be glad it was not Randy Andy scurrying inside your walls, softly massaging his fleshy buttocks.

there's a very good article by rick klein in the boston globe about the democrats' fundraising success:

GOP's financial edge dulled in '06
In both houses, Democrats raise more in June
By Rick Klein, Globe Staff | July 22, 2006

WASHINGTON -- Democrats have all but wiped out the Republicans' historical fund-raising advantage for House and Senate races and appear to be approaching this fall's midterm congressional elections in better financial shape than at any point since they lost control of Congress in 1994, according to campaign-finance data released this week.

...The financial situation bodes well for Democrats' chances, because it speaks to grass-roots anger toward Republicans and leaves Democrats well armed for the coming ad wars, said Julian Zelizer, a congressional historian at Boston University.

``People don't just throw their money at a losing party," Zelizer said. ``In all recent elections, Democrats haven't had the same kind of financial muscle that Republicans have. Given the political context of 2006, if they have the backing to put on fierce and vigorous campaigns, that's very significant."

Gravatarspinoza ... DOn't gross me out, dude.

Oh, goody! Time to tear Sully apart again. As Billmon says, "It would take an almost superhuman sense of compassion not to relish the sight of the tormenters being tormented by the likes of Hugh Hewitt, Michelle Malkin and Glenn Reynolds. And thank God, I'm only human."

I'm only human, too.

So let the games begin

Gravatar'Djerejian was too busy sneering at lefty bloggers who were insufficiently enthusiastic about all those waving purple fingertips:

Kos and Atrios can't broach the big story, at least if it's a positive one, because they are merely playing to rabid partisan audiences and so are stuck tiresomely dwelling in their own provincial echo chambers. '

GravatarAs for my later comments about opponents of the Iraq war being "objectively pro-Saddam," that seems to me to be indisputable.

no andy, you ignorant slut, DESTABILIZING an entire country with the fake excuse of saving it is a complete bullshit line - your problem like all warmongers is that you do not accept the preciousness of life...the >100,000 dead iraqis is morally relative to what saddam did - so was that our plan? to go in and be as bad as saddam was? well with our torture president and or torture sec of defense, we have certainly come a long way towards that end!

GravatarWasn't there some song about "Like a chump/ I did it all for the nookie?"

i really don't want to think about the possible applicability of that.....
-

GravatarBillmon really left a mark with that one, didn't he...

GravatarSully deserves it, and Billmon has been on fire lately. As people catch on, the vitriol and lies of the right are going to get worse to keep the remaining rubes in line.

It ain't gonna be pretty. I told an incredulous Republican last month that he was being played. Nobody wants to admit they've been a fool.

GravatarWhich smart Atriot said yesterday that Sully wears his desperation to be an aristocrat on his sleeve? That was spot-on.

GravatarFailure isn't just an option, it's now the ONLY option.

Ouch.

I think that one will sting for a bit.

I'm also glad that Billmon clearly articulated the Stalinesque devotion to ideological purity bubbling up from freeperville.

GravatarOT: Venezuela seeks UN 'balance'

Venezuela's efforts to join the UN Security Council have been endorsed by Latin American countries in Mercosur.

South America's largest trade bloc said in a statement that Venezuela would "help bring necessary balance" to the council.

Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan president, has said that he wants his nation to join the council to dilute Washington's "imperialist" influence.

The US has promoted its ally Guatemala as a rival candidate to Venezuela for a seat on the council and Chavez has accused Washington of trying to persuade Latin American countries to vote against him.

GravatarAs the SWAT sniper says in Two Minute Warning:

"Goodbye, asshole."

Raoul Paste

What did he say?

GravatarOkay, read it, and reminded again:

Damn Billmon's good.

GravatarOT: ADDIS ABABA (AFP) - Ethiopia has vowed to "crush" the powerful Somali Islamic courts, a day after they threatened a holy war against Addis Ababa, which they accuse of sending troops to protect Somalia's weak interim government.

Gravatar"By fifth column, I meant simply their ambivalence about the outcome of a war on which I believe the future of liberty hangs. Again, I retract nothing."

Gravatar"What Sully has discovered -- via many nasty bites to his ankles -- is that past service to the cause of rabid extremism doesn't buy any protection from the attack squirrels of the rabid right."

There is a phrase for a gay libertine who sides with the Republican-fascists, stupid selfish traitor. Sully is a fraud whose usefulness to Republican-fascism is over and who is beginning to suffer the consequences that some predicted for him a long time ago.

It's sort of sad to hear Dan Shore making a fool of himself well past the time he should have retired. Sully's display isn't sad because his absurdity was always in place.

Gravatarbillmon rocks. when i read stuff like that, it makes me wish that i hadn't cut and pasted the lyrics of "sad eyed lady of the lowlands", in its entirety, in his comments section, forcing him to shut it down.

GravatarI'm also glad that Billmon clearly articulated the Stalinesque devotion to ideological purity bubbling up from freeperville.

Knows his Soviet history, Billmon does, and it applies frighteningly well here to the way the Wingnut brigade treats its apostates and, of course, the way it has accused all those who disagree with the Party Line of treason.

GravatarWow, just wow. Billmon rocks with that one.

Problem for Mr. Sullivan is that he, you know - writes about shit. It's kind of hard to backtrack about what you intended to say when what you've said is written on paper.

The burden of clear, concise, coherent communication falls on the communicator, not the one to whom the message is being communicated. You wanna say something? Then choose your words carefully - otherwise, you're doomed to the truth that can be discovered hellhole of archives.

GravatarOT: UN council sets focus on Mideast humanitarian woes

UNITED NATIONS, July 21 (Reuters) - The U.N. Security Council turned its focus to a dire humanitarian crisis in Lebanon on Friday as Secretary-General Kofi Annan's plea for a quick end to the fighting between Israel and Hizbollah failed to gain traction.

Council members said the outlines of a long-delayed initial reaction to the conflict were likely to emerge after an international conference in Rome next week and said they hoped to find common ground in addressing the needs of those driven from their homes by 10 days of Israeli bombing.

Council members came under fire from dozens of world governments during an all-day public meeting on Friday for the apparent indecision shown by the 15-nation U.N. body.

GravatarI consider myself more closely attuned to many hanging their hats at the AEI rather than the Brookings

Only a pseudo-intellectual bore would write such twaddle.

Gravatarnah...i'm fucking pissed - those apologists goose-stepped to 'their imperial war' and called anyone who disagreed with the war treasonous...practically terrorist sympathizers

hey dumber than dirt americans: Iraq did not attack us on 9/11....fighting them there is not an excuse either - we were fighting them in afghanistan - we BROUGHT terrorists to Iraq - just like we BROUGHT bin laden to afghanistan - just like rumsfeld sold sarin to saddam.

Gravatartheatre of the box turtles.

GravatarOh, and good morning.

I made dinner for some friends last night. A married, liberal couple, and a conservative, Catholic Lebanese woman who loves sex (says she's "weak of the flesh").

I asked her how she felt about the goings-on between Lebanon and Israel, and she got this very sad look on her face, and said, "I'm heartbroken. War is never good."

So a bit later, we were playing Euchre, and my other friend, out of the blue, asks her, "So, R____, you're not still supporting W are you?"

To which R_____ says, "Yes, I support George Bush and his policies."

The conversation stopped. Kind of ruined the evening.

GravatarNim,

God, I still cannot believe the person who wrote that the blogs are easy with the truth because they referenced The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, is a) still employed b)such a fucking wanker as to minimize any further contributions to the point of the importance of biting commentary from a six year old on matters of Constitutional Law.

GravatarAnd, yes, we're now increasing troop commitment to Iraq, rather than starting to draw down (as the rabid ankle-biting squirrels so breathlessly cheered a month or so back).

Reality bites.

Impressive.

Too bad the people (using that term loosely) that need to read it, won't.

And if they ever did, I think their eyes would slide over the words but be unable to register them.

GravatarOl honest abe lincoln was right, you CAN fool SOME of the people ALL of the time. i.e. Bush's 35%
approval rating. But ol'Andy's problem is he now KNOWS he was (a) FOOLed and is trying to backtrack without admitting he's a fool. Difficult blog terrain to navigate with folks like Billmon who is en fuego!!!

GravatarOh, and Vicki, you should go vote for Al - he's not doing so well...!

If it weren't so amazingly sad, it would almost be funny, the lengths to which some journamalists will go to take swipes at those mean kids with blogs.

Done, and thanks!

GravatarOf course, if you and your fellow war hawks had listened to anyone who knew anything about the tortured history of Iraq, the Shi'a, the Middle East -- or the human species -- maybe you would have understood the risks from the beginning.

it's kind of weird. when i was growing up i met a fair number of crazy people. they weren't that hard to find, but they were different from normal people.everybody knew they were crazy and dealt with them as such. we were nice to them and all. gave them iced tea and everything. but that was as far as it went. it seems like now people are saying-- "well, maybe i should be crazy too".

Yes, comrade, the laws of historical inevitability are our strength. These "blogs" can truly be used to illustrate the dialectic nature of the evolution of communist thought and progress.

Forward the revolution and let us create the glorious worker's paradise!

GravatarI saw a car with a *Support President Bush and the troops* yesterday and I wanted to grap the driver and shake her until her head rattled while shouting "How is Bush or YOU supporting the troops, you moron?!!!"

GravatarThanks,RCraniu, when I left Al was coming up on Feingold.

Never realized that supporting the laws and constitution was communist.

Nim, ham hock of liberty - 9:41 am

Perhaps you should ask them why it was that Atrios had to put a column in the LA Times to bring them up to speed on Lieberman, when all those full time professionals couldn't figure it out.

GravatarThe way one wins political debates is that people who supported the other side realize that they were wrong and come over to one's side. Condemming and dissing people who do this like Sullivan may make one feel self-righteous but is self defeating and impedes one's side from winning the debate.

GravatarCondemming and dissing people who do this like Sullivan may make one feel self-righteous but is self defeating and impedes one's side from winning the debate.

Cap, you can think that all you want, but people like Sullivan can never be counted on. Period.

For an example of what I'm referring to, lets read the last part of Andy's statement from 4 days ago:

As for my later comments about opponents of the Iraq war being "objectively pro-Saddam," that seems to me to be indisputable.

That is complete bullshit and a lie. Fuck Sullivan and the horse he rode in on.

GravatarOh, and Vicki, you should go vote for Al - he's not doing so well...!
Richard Cranium | Homepage | 07.22.06 - 9:41 am

Richard, Al's at 25%--a plurality--in a field of at least 20 names...not shabby...

Meanwhile, Juan Cole reports:
"In Iraq, young Shiite clerical nationalist Muqtada al-Sadr gave an incendiary sermon in which he:
' predicted Israel would collapse like New York's twin towers on Sept 11, 2001, if Sunnis and Shiites join in their fight. "I will continue defending my Shiite and Sunni brothers, and I tell them that if we unite, we will defeat Israel without the use of weapons," Sadr said during a speech in the southern city Iraqi city of Kufa. '
Yes, Bush has certainly created a model democracy in Iraq. (Muqtada has 30 members in parliament, and in conjunction with the Da'wa Party, he is a king maker in the new system).

Boooosh is playing a key role in uniting Shi'a and Sunnis in Iraq--AGAINST THE US...
Well played, fucknozzle...

GravatarIf it weren't so amazingly sad, it would almost be funny, the lengths to which some journamalists will go to take swipes at those mean kids with blogs.
Nim, ham hock of liberty - 9:41 am

they really ARE threatened by the blogs.
Conventional media are losing market share all the time, especially the print side.
Bloggers make them almost irrelevant: when everybody can have an opinion to which others might pay attention then YOUR opinion--which you've sacrificed principle and morality for a platform to express in public, sold your soul to the CorpoRat culture, mortgaged your talent to promulgate--doesn't mean nearly as much...

and yeah, they're pissed...

GravatarVicki,

We've lost friends over all this. No open arguments or even discussion, just W supporters (they have military/Nam backgrounds) who now don't want to see us because there is nothing to say, they can't admit it's all gone wrong.

GravatarBillmom knows i love him.

GravatarWell, at least I have one other person somewhat defending Sullivan here. At least be heartened by his stance on torture and his pieces on Christianism are to be cheered by all on the left and centrists alike.

GravatarA beautiful piece of writing.

Gravatarthe "me too" neocons are surely a sorry lot that greatly deserve all the scorn that can be heaped upon them, and we should be able to be forgiven a giggle or two as the true believer alternate universe hardcore sharpen their teeth on the "me too's" soft underbelly.

worse than the "me too's" are the so-called liberal hawks (SCLH) that ventured even farther into dementia-world than the "me too's". without the SCLH the true believer whack-pack would not have taken the reigns, there were not enough me too’s to get them the key to Pandora’s Box – the SCLH handed it them.

but as much as those who never left reality and have suffered mightily the internal screaming for lo these 6 years specifically because of the cognitive failings of the "me too's" and SCLH, it now does us no good to spend more than a passing private chortle at their disgrace and demise, for the howling beast is still firmly entrenched at the helm and in command, and it will take every ounce of participation of the denizens of reality to dislodge them. Hence, we must throttle our anger at the enablers in order to recruit them, or at least neutralize them while the battle for the survival of humanity rages to put the evil right wing genie back in the bottle.
.

GravatarBillmon is the best

GravatarAttacked by their own ilk, and with no safe quarter from the unforgiving Left, the Sullivans of the world will either have to disappear, go insane, or become full-blown out-of-the-closet fascists.

Gravatar"The way one wins political debates is that people who supported the other side realize that they were wrong and come over to one's side. Condemming and dissing people who do this like Sullivan may make one feel self-righteous but is self defeating and impedes one's side from winning the debate."

This is absolutely, 100% correct -- IF, that is, you're talking about the normal workings of a normal democratic system. The problem is A.) We don't live in that kind of society any more and B.) I'm not willing to go on pretending we do.

GravatarBravo Billmon!

GravatarSullivan is a professional victim. That is so 80s.

GravatarI've been saying for years that these idiots are just tools used against their own country, and that if they

1. had the guts to face the damage they've made possible

2. ever loved America at all

they'd eat the fucking barrel.

But, since no rightwing blogger has yet painted his ceiling with his brains, I'm guessing one of those two conditions hasn't been met yet.
.

GravatarI'm not.

Viva Billmon!

GravatarHoly fuck. Billmon brings out the CHAIR.

GravatarI think that Billmon did an excellent job, but is it a job that deserves the amount of energy that progressive bloggers devote to it? Focus on who is smart and right about the issues, dismiss the liars and idiots with the shortest possible dismissal, and a link to a central site where their lies are compiled.

That's not a bad idea, that central site.

GravatarHey abc, that's why Billmon's site is dark blue. Other folks run the happy furry puppy sites.

Hey Atrios, does this mean there may be a Billmonian-Eschatonian rapprochement? Just askin'.

GravatarBillmon quote:
"I suppose I should welcome these refugees to reality, and let them be useful idiots for the Left Opposition for a change."

No, sorry, most of us agree that there will be.... NO QUARTER.

Gravataronce again, Billmon takes down those trafficking in the timeless art of disinformazia!

thanks Billmon for your sobriety!

(anyone gettin' thirsty?)

Gravatararchive overload- Peter Beinert on Mclaughlin as a 'liberal' overshadows anything Sully the shock jockstrap could say.
