Paul Kiel of Talking Points Memo's Muckraker site wrote that a number of New Hampshire residents were called last weekend by a group identifying itself as Ventures Data. The residents were asked if they knew Bradley had voted against drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge, for stem-cell research and for re-importation of drugs from Canada, all of which are popular positions among local voters.
The respondents were then asked "15 leading, negative questions about Craig, according to those who alerted the Democrat's campaign," Kiel wrote. They allegedly included statements that suggested Craig favors gun control (he has not voted for any such measure as a member of the New Hampshire House, said his campaign staff), and that he voted against banning partial-birth abortions and gay marriage.
Kiel reported that by the end of the poll the respondents were not asked about their opinion of Craig.
This poll allegedly has the characteristics of a "push poll," which does not seek to gauge the public's opinion, but to sway voters' impressions of a candidate. The polling is illegal and can garner fines from the Federal Election Commission.
this story just made the portsmouth paper today - the primary election is Tuesday. I wonder how many voters were push polled.
also - it's illegal in NH - so the Republicans will have to pay a fine - if they are found guilty??? small price to pay to steal an election for this crowd. ugh!!!!!!!!

OT--Can you believe the Red Cross is STILL being careless, more than two decades into the AIDS epidemic?
The American Red Cross said money it makes selling blood will help cover the latest in a series of multimillion-dollar government fines. The Food and Drug Administration ordered the Red Cross on Friday to pay $4.2 million for violating blood-safety laws. The record fine is on top of $5.7 million the Red Cross already has been assessed by the FDA since a court settlement reached in 2003.
The latest fine is for violations that include failing to reject donors who had traveled to malarial areas and allowing blood and related products to be distributed without proper testing, said Margaret Glavin, the FDA's associate commissioner for regulatory affairs.

US President George W. Bush has said in an interview that he was "interested in learning more" about the Iranian government.
As much as can be crammed into a one paragraph synopsis.

So, do you think any of the bobbleheads will talk about something other than the crockumentary?
Probably not, because the other thing that happened last week was the release of the SIC documents showing that Cheney and Bush lied their cojones off about Saddam and Al Qaeda, and you know damn well there's a news blackout on that.

This is true. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see all kinds of media figures suddenly get all Democratic and shit.
Well, the tipping point is when public sentiment has moved so far away from the propaganda they are spewing that the mass defection of listeners/watchers actually outweighs the general right-wing economic interests of the parent companies. A lot of people around here seem to believe that that point does not exist, but like you, I think it does and that we are nearing it.

At least The Paper of Record had the decency to issue a correction about the Alessandra Stanley thing.
Corrections
Published: September 9, 2006
The TV Watch column in Weekend yesterday, about the ABC mini-series “The Path to 9/11,” referred incorrectly to a conclusion of the commission that investigated the terror attacks. The commission said the accusation that President Clinton had ordered air strikes against Osama bin Laden in August 1998 to distract attention from the Monica Lewinsky scandal was one of several factors that “likely had a cumulative effect on future decisions about the use of force” against Mr. bin Laden. It did not conclude that the scandal distracted the Clinton administration from the terrorist threat.
How are you doing today, sweetheart?

In other words, the GOP and the neocon whore media are responsible for any subsequent lack of aggression in pursuing bin Laden. Thanks for clearing that up, Neocon Whore Times. How's Judy Miller doing these days? Still sending postcards?

For the benighted masses addled by Jesus and NASCAR, that point does not exist. They will parrot whatever Rove pays Limbaugh to say until they drop dead from starvation. The question is, once you eliminate that category, how many Americans do you have left, and do they vote?

Ride the Tube - visit the National Portrait Gallery, pick up my order at India Office Library and Records, eat lunch at Liberty's, visit Hamley's, get a BIG BAG of Maids of Honour at the Maid of Honour in Kew, walk along the Thames and try and figure out exactly which building is The Circus.

My letter:
Ms. Medina:
Did you read the email that Ned Lamont sent Joe Lieberman in 1998? I'm sorry but it appears you didn't. Your selective quotation of the email ignores the content of the paragraphs just before and after the one that you quote.
Ned Lamont's clear intention in the paragraph you quote is to find a common ground with Senator Lieberman before stating his opinion that the Senator's speech denouncing President Clinton on the floor of the Senate had done great harm and led to a "snowballing mess".
Nothing that Mr. Lamont said this week departed from that initial expression of outrage in the behavior of both President Clinton and those who were conducting investigations into his private relationships. Just this week he reiterated the idea in this email that "if Clinton has a sex problem, mature adults would have handled this privately, not turned it into a political crusade". Surely, Senator Lieberman understood that this point was directed to him as well as Kenneth Starr.
Please, just because Senator Lieberman's campaign aides may portray this email as a smoking gun of the hypocrisy of Ned Lamont, it does not make it so.
Thank you for your attention. I hope you have the opportunity to revisit this topic and clear the misunderstanding that Mr. Lamont has somehow changed his stance.
(Incidentally, isn't there a war going on somewhere that might have a bit more immediacy than a sexual affair eight years ago?)
