I don't know if this was mentioned below, but Tom Shales eviscerates "Path to 9/11, both artistically and factually:
Of note:
Clinton himself is libeled through abusive editing. A first-class U.S. operative played by Donnie Wahlberg argues the case for getting bin Laden while the al-Qaeda leader is openly in view in some sort of compound in Afghanistan. CIA officials haggle over minor details, such as the budget for the operation. The film's director, David L. Cunningham, then cuts abruptly to a TV image of Clinton making his infamous "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" remark with regard to Monica Lewinsky. The impression given is that Clinton was spending time on his sex life while terrorists were gaining ground and planning a nightmare.
It would have made as much sense, and perhaps more, to cut instead to stock footage of a smirking Kenneth Starr, the reckless Republican prosecutor largely responsible for distracting not just the president but the entire nation with the scandal.
..........break into the thread below and announce it.
Oh I am sure they'll all make it up here eventually.
What up Jeffraham, Diane?

Months before the United States invaded Iraq in 2003, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld forbade military strategists from developing plans for securing a post-war Iraq, the retiring commander of the Army Transportation Corps said Thursday.
In fact, said Brig. Gen. Mark Scheid, Rumsfeld said "he would fire the next person" who talked about the need for a post-war plan.
September issue of "The Rogue Voice" is now available online. Check it out and leave comments, please. This is a literary journal, mostly nonfiction, with an occasional political piece. They are also looking for more "rogue" writers. Any rogue women writers out there?

Halliburton is being sued by a whistleblower. The Justice Dept. decided not to participate in the suit for reasons unknown. Excerpt from Huffpo:
"Filed last year in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., by former KBR employee Julie McBride, the lawsuit claims the giant defense contractor billed the government for thousands of meals it never served, inflated the number of soldiers using its fitness and Internet centers, and regularly siphoned off great quantities of supplies destined for American soldiers."

So if the President being focused on terrorism was so important, why did the GOP decide to tie up the Congress and the White House for years over a blow job? Oh, that's right, because the GOP decided "gettin' Bubba" was more important than national security. I remember now. It's too bad Clinton didn't focus even less on terrorism, since all indications are that when guys like Richard Clarke tried to interest the Chimpster in antiterrorism efforts before 9/11, he wouldn't take an interest because, after all, Clinton had focused on terrorism, so focusing on terrorism must be bad. That's why Bush's pre-9/11 antiterrorism budget was a joke, although you won't hear Oxycontin Boy and his army of Kool-Aid Kommandos talking about that.

I'm in London, and have only minimal reports of the controversy, mostly from the CLinton vs ABC perspective.
The BBC is going to air this film. Libel and Defamation is much more plaintiff-friendly here under UK law. BBC and the producers would have to prove the truth of their assertions in court. Isn't it an obvious place to put legal pressure on these wankers? I haven't seen anyone discuss this angle.

I lack the time to do this, but here is an idea for someone with a project mentality.
Alternativestodisney.com for liberal and moderate - and fair-minded conservative - consumers who would like to find an organized way to hurt this arrogant behemoth.
For entertainment, there are a great many alternatives, even for kids stuff. the Baby einstein series sadly was a Disney asset last I checked.
For theme parks, in my area there are Kings DOminion, Hershey park and Six Flags. In Orlando, Big Mickey owns a lot but not all of the resorts; bet their right-leaning chamber of commerce types will be pissed about this for a while, esp. since Florida has a meaningful winter tourist season.
It's important to hit Disney hard, now; corporations are short-term thinkers, kind of like three year-olds, and it's important to bring the pain immediately, not next month. This has to be regarded not as a bad day but as the colossal, worse than New Coke fuck-up that got a CEO sacked by his Board and stockholders.
Ditto at the malls; tell the Disney store managers VERY POLITELY why you don't feel comfortable spending your after-tax dollars there this holiday season. Local/regional pressure may be more meaningful than piling letters onto the pile at Mouse HQ.
Finally, on the nastier side, I think some photoshops of Minnie Mouse wearing a blue dress with "GOP DNA" on it would go a long way. That's not nice but neither is slander and historical fraud.

From Huffpo:
"McBride worked 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, at Camp Fallujah's recreation center, where the government was billed according to the number of soldiers using the contractor's facilities, which included a weight room, video games, Internet cafe, a library and phone bank, the suit says. She alleges that KBR deliberately overstated the number of military personnel using its services by counting the same person several times. For example, a person who used a computer was counted as one. If that person went on the weight room, another count was added to the list of patrons."
"It wasn't double-dipping, but triple dipping or even quadruple billing," the suit claims

There are, apparently, questions about what precisely Bush did on 9/11/01 after leaving Florida. But there is no question what he did in that classroom.
I understand ABC's movie doesn't include the "My Pet Goat" reading. Wonder how it handles the mad scramble to Louisiana and then Nebraska, since even the 9/11 Commission makes it clear Cheney was in charge that day.

The problem I have with Pitt's writing is that his assertions are never linked to any primary sources. There is a lot in what he writes that I can verify via my memory of things I've read, but there are some things I have never heard of that he asserts that I have no way of cross validating. For example
"Despite these and other diplomatic setbacks, terrorist cell after terrorist cell were destroyed across the world, and bomb plots against American embassies were thwarted. Because of security concerns, these victories were never revealed to the American people until very recently."
I would have loved to have seen a link to a news article supporting this point.
Here is another passage that would be helped with links to primary sources:
"His 1996 omnibus terror bill, which included many of the anti-terror measures we now take for granted after September 11, was withered almost to the point of uselessness by attacks from the right; Jesse Helms and Trent Lott were openly dismissive of the threats Clinton spoke of."
The fact that Pitt has citations for some of his sources, but lacks them for others weakens his central argument that the Right has a history of opportunistic opposition to anti-terrorism programs proposed by Democrats, but supports those very same programs when they are proposed by Republicans.
Someone more knowlegable than me should go in and revise Pitt's best work by providing links and sources for all of his assertions. This would transform his brilliant polemical writing into irrefutable evidence that it is the Right in this country that is undermining our national security.
here's a quote from his 59, er i mean 56 deceipts of f911:
Moore’s editing technique of the election night segment is typical of his style: all the video clips are real clips, and nothing he says is, narrowly speaking, false.
one of the "deceipts" is calling katherine harris "the vote count woman" when she did not actually physically count the votes. in fact, thanks to kathy, no one did.
Try descent from Billy Sol Estes, defrauded the gov't out in Lubbock some decades back and went to prison for it. For getting friends in military contracting to declare perfectly good equipment as damaged, unloaded it onto Billy Sol for peanuts. While Halliburton is declaring equipment damaged and leaving it in the desert, replacing it, rather than fixing it.

Attaturk:
Got to say I like the beginning of Shale's review even better:
Factually shaky, politically inflammatory and photographically a mess, "The Path to 9/11" -- ABC's two-part, five-hour miniseries tracing events leading up to the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon -- has something not just to offend everyone but also to depress them.
The docudrama -- allegedly produced as a warning to the United States that the attacks, or something like them, could happen again -- falls clumsily into traps that await all those who make fictional films claiming to be factual. Except this time, the event being dramatized is one of the most tragic and monstrous in the nation's history, not something to be trifled with.
Ah, the appearance of little RW&B is clearly a sign that I must depart and go to my damnable office...
It'll be a shame to miss its further contributions to the discussion: Fred Barnes said it was a classic example of left-wing censorship. And Mort said that it was outrageous to challenge an Amerikan network's right to freely broadcast thought-provoking drama!
And Krauthammer agreed with them!

Kerry on rumsfeld:
Real Security for All Americans
As prepared for delivery.
September 9, 2006
Faneuil Hall, Boston
It is immoral for old men to send young Americans to fight and die in a conflict without a strategy that can work -- on a mission that has not weakened terrorism but worsened it.
It is immoral to lie about progress in that war to get through a news cycle or an election.
It is immoral to treat 9/11 as a political pawn -- and to continue to excuse the invasion of Iraq by exploiting the 3,000 mothers and fathers, sons and daughters who were lost that day. They were attacked and killed not by Saddam Hussein but by Osama bin Laden.
And it is deeply immoral to compare a majority of Americans who oppose a failing policy and seek a winning one to appeasers of Fascism and Naziism.
The leaders of this administration have shown in recent days that they will say anything, do anything, twist any truth, and endanger our nation's character as one America in a desperate ploy to survive a mid term election.
Wow. Another troll apeshit over Fahrenheit 911. That's so 2004.
Your guy won. Get over it fucktard.

From Huffpo:
The Super Bowl incident occurred in January 2005, the suit said. "McBride witnessed a large amount of food that was ordered specifically for a Super Bowl party for the military" taken instead to the company's lodgings. "About 10 large metal tubs full of tacos, chicken wings, (and) cheese sticks were taken from the military party site to a KBR camp for a KBR Super Bowl Party for KBR employees," according to the complaint. A widescreen TV was also removed

This just has to be true, since the turkey that Bush was pictured holding at theat Iraq miliotary base was fake.
What?...It wasn't a fake turkey. Never mind.

53. Moore claims that only one Congressman has a child in
Iraq. Actually, two do. (Democratic Senator Tim Johnson of
S.D., and Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter of California.)
Also, John Ashcroft has a son on a naval ship in the Persian
Gulf.
You know, sometimes you're better off leaving sleeping dogs lie. Oh, TWO out of 435 Congressmen with kids in the military--that's MUCH better.

It seems that all of the candidates on both sides for 2008 can read, write and speak correctly and are way more qualified than Chimpy.

Lord I miss presidential literacy.
With all of the other disasters surrounding Bushco, it is truly amazing that just seeing him speak in public still drives me insane with disgust that we could ever let this smarmy little goon within 10,000 miles of dogcatcher, let alone preznit.

ProviderUNE™: So Jeff, exactly how far is the coco cafe from your place, and the mysterious nature of this "daypass" I find intriguing........
Cafe Coco is perhaps 7-8 mi. from my spot. It's in the heart of the medical district in midtown Gnashvegas, near the Elliston Place/Church St. switchover.
The MTA daypass is $3.75 all-you-can-ride, all day long, wherever the MTA busses run.

Bush is quoted as saying, "A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it." What Moore fails to note, though, is that the quote, from July 26, 2001, is a facetious joke,
Bush is a joke....a sick joke!
