Diesel prices are unchanged, over $3.00/gal. And home heating oil is over $3.00/gal as well. Only gasoline is down, and all are made from the same bbl. of oil, and you can't make "more" of one by shorting the other - they are seperate fractions w/in the bbl. that is fractionally distilled out.
I.E., the drop in gas prices is a crock of shit by any explanation EXCEPT "We are choosing to take less profit on gasoline during election season."

Well, the Amoco jobber I buy farm diesel from has been saying for well over a year that $20-25 dollars/bbl crude has been purely 'fear-driven speculation'- & in fact, supplies are as high as they were in 1998, when I paid $.80/gal for farm diesel as opposed to $2.29 or thereabouts.

Not at all; I was expecting it. The only thing that surprised me was that the Republicans didn't immediately precede it with some sham tax-breaks/incentives/drilling-on-wildlife- preserves bill so they could take credit for it, not to mention use it as vindication of that approach so they could keep using it and expanding on it.

I think the GOP has taken massive hits in its leadership recently and this type of maneuvering is beyond the current crowd
I mean, if you take the '94 buunch to be the revolutioniaries, the children of Goldwater, what we are going to start to see is their sychophants and nepotoads being elevated to leadership through - ahem - battlefield promotions.
