friday is a good night to talk about gay republican pedophiles and the staffers who cover up for them, don't you think?
...i just heard about some devastating internal republican polls, folks. it's really, really important to keep talking about the gay republican pedophiles lurking in the offices of the vast majority of republican office holders. i can't back up this claim with facts or proof, but because it's for the children, it would be irresponsible for me to let this matter rest quietly. jeebus demands it.
i think it may be a good time for me to reconsider going to some fundie churches and pretending to be one, just so i can share my *outrage* over the Gay Republican Pedophiles staining the party of baby jeebus.

'Cleopatra Jones' Actress Dobson Dies
Cleopatra Jones actress Tamara Dobson died in Baltimore, Maryland, on Monday. She was 59. According to Dobson's brother, she died from complications arising from multiple sclerosis and pneumonia. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis six years ago. Dobson found success as a professional model in the early 1970s before making her movie debut in 1972's Fuzz. But she will always be best remembered for her role as Cleopatra Jones in the 1973 movie. The character was the inspiration behind Beyonce Knowles turn as Foxxy Cleopatra in 2002's Austin Powers In Goldmember.
Some trivia...
The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes the 6'2" Dobson as the tallest leading lady ever in film.

Cunningham's wife to pay $1.6M in taxes http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/
20061...ressman_bribery
SAN DIEGO - The estranged wife of disgraced former congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham will pay $1.6 million in back taxes and penalties for her role in the bribery scandal that landed him in prison, according to a settlement filed Friday.
The federal government sued Nancy Cunningham last year. The settlement means she will not be prosecuted for any charges relating to her husband's activities, according to papers filed in federal civil court.
Duke Cunningham resigned from Congress and was sentenced in March to more than eight years in prison. He admitted last November accepting $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors in exchange for government contracts and other favors.
The couple separated in July 2005, when FBI agents raided their home in ritzy Rancho Santa Fe, seizing rugs, furniture and jewelry.
Nancy Cunningham's attorney, Douglas Brown, called the deal "a compromise settlement" and said his client intends to file for divorce soon.

Louis Rove left his family during the 1969 Christmas holidays and moved to Los Angeles where he eventually "came out." According to Rove's father's best friend, an openly gay man named Joseph Koons, "Louie didn't hide the fact that he was gay. But he didn't play it up either." The Architect describes Louis Rove as a shy man, encumbered by his three hundred pound figure. To encourage Rove to socialize, Joseph Koons, invited him to join a retired gay men's group called the "Old Farts Club," jokingly referred to among the men as the "Rainbow Casket."
Karl Rove frequently visited his father in the 1980s. Joseph Koons said he didn't sense "any great tension" between Karl and his father.
Rove keeps a photograph of his father on his White House desk and has remarked to reporters that his father "lived life exactly the way he wanted to live it."
A self-described agnostic [1], Rove has to date portrayed his parent's divorce and mother's subsequent death as something of a mystery.
"It's hard to figure out," Rove told Time Magazine in 2004. "You can speculate on what demons she just wasn't able to overcome, but she couldn't."
In 1960, at the age of 9 years old, Rove decided to support Richard Nixon. According to Rove, "There was a little girl across the street who was Catholic and found out I was for Nixon, and she was avidly for Kennedy. She put me down on the pavement and whaled on me and gave me a bloody nose. I lost my first political battle."[2]

It's pretty incredible that John Warner is being hailed by Olberman and Alter as a truth-teller for saying the U.S. might need to change course in Iraq in two or three months.,
their rage is that of centrists betrayed.
their greatest fear is the emergence of a REAL opposition.
they want to SAVE the 'Bush presidency', they all do...they do not recognize it as the malign, fascist force and impetus.
they do not see themselves threatened, personally; they see an abstract threat that might become personal...

I lost my first political battle."
Because that just goes to show who the real bullies, dishonest tricksters and racial politicians were. But seriously who doubts that Rove paid her at least five dollars, but she only made three because she wouldn't pee on him?

Brewsters is not bad (good stuff on tap) but probably very crowded for Saturday lunch (is there a sporting event at that time?) -- don't know if Frankee's is open for lunch -- there's an Applebee's -- it is just like all other Applebee's on the planet -- as I said, I'll ask around -- some of the other monks or our employees might have some good suggestions (there's always the Fisher Lake Inn, right?)

I don't know the answers to these questions, but they are important and need to be answered. If the Democrats have known for some time about Foley's transgressions but failed to act until now, they endangered more boys--and why? Solely to advance their partisan political interests.

Loopy liberals sell us out to inhuman enemies who want to kill them, because that's just what they do.
An exterminationist police state military government accepts a transfer of power that disgusts it, because that's what we could trust Hitler to do if he took over New York and believed himself to be on the verge of annihilation.

Subsequent reports have flat out detailed that the person in question, whoever it was and wherever they worked, is a Republican, not a Democrat.
But suppose it was a Democrat, and the Madsen story is true. What you have then is a DOJ career employee who is aware of the issue 2 - 3 months ago, and watches as the Republicans once again sweep it under the rug, then watches in amazement as they do nothing to pressure Foley to retire. There's an election coming up and Foley is a shoo-in for re-election. The investigation isn't going to happen, this person that you know to be a predator will be coming back for another term, and nothing will be done about it. So you hand over what you have to ABC.
Well, Democrat or no, what DECENT PERSON would not act in exactly the same way under this set of circumstances? And are they to be BLAMED because the Republicans not only passed on all opportunities to fix the problem, but were actively supporting its continuation?
What crap.

Sometimes you need a Cockburn fix; it's the opening of a column headlined "Orgasms and Wargasms."
"Sex scandals, at least in societies dominated by guilt-sodden Protestants, fulfill the therapeutic function usually attributed to pleasant or exciting sex: exploration of intimate areas of political life, surfacing "issues" normally repressed. America can't talk about Iraq, where American boys are raping 14-year-old girls and shooting families at close range, can't talk about torture, so instead we focus on what former Republican Representative Mark Foley wrote to a page about boxer shorts and their contents. What's the other option? Pack a tube of sex lubricant, holster up, grab a box of ammo and head for the Amish schoolhouse.
Here's Foley (code-named Maf54) in instant-message mode in April 2003:
[Kissing poo talk between Foley and the page]
What was Foley off to vote for? The evening the House voted on HR 1559, Emergency War Time supplental appropriations. Just another wargasm in the life of Empire..."

from Salon War Room...
In a sworn statement sent to the Marine Corps' inspector general, a Marine sergeant says she heard guards from Guantánamo bragging last month about beating detainees, the Associated Press reports.
The sergeant, who works as a paralegal in the Marine Corps, said in the statement that she met the guards in a bar at the naval base on Sept. 23. One guard, identified as "Bo," told the sergeant that he had taken a detainee by the head and then slammed his head into a cell door. According to the sergeant, "Bo" said others at Gitmo knew of his actions but didn't do anything about them.
Other guards in the group also "told their own stories of abuse towards the detainees," the sergeant said. They spoke of hitting detainees, denying them water and "removing privileges for no reason." All told, the sergeant said, "about five others in the group admitted hitting detainees."
"From the whole conversation, I understood that striking detainees was a common practice," the sergeant said. "Everyone in the group laughed at the others' stories of beating detainees."
The AP obtained the sergeant's statement from Lt. Col. Colby Vokey, who is the Marine Corps' defense coordinator for the Western United States. Vokey is calling for an investigation, but it can go only so far: Even if the sergeant's allegations prove to be correct, the Military Commissions Act of 2006 would prohibit federal courts from doing anything about them.
Well that's just great!

Soldiers in Iraq asking: 'Why are we here?'
Invisible enemy, untrustworthy allies have troops questioning their purpose
By Richard Engel
Beirut bureau chief
The U.S. Cavalry's Crazy Horse, 3rd Platoon ventures out into Southern Baghdad, where the enemy is invisible, Iraqi allies untrustworthy, and where American troops increasingly ask themselves if this is their fight anymore. And who is the enemy?
"It's not clear now who we're always fighting: they're terrorists, they're criminals, they're religious radicals," says Sgt. Mike Schmieder of the Army's 1-14 Cavalry.
"My men are infiltrated by Shiite militias and I can't get rid of them," he says. "If I report them, they'll kill me."
The troops say it's frustrating not to trust their Iraqi counterparts. Do soldiers here ever ask themselves, "Why are we here? Is this our war anymore?"
"Oh yes, all the time. I ask myself that a lot, too," says Spc. Vernon Roberson of 1-14 Cavalry. "We've been here for so long and we've done so much, but it's just so far we can go." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15160357
Enough! Come home and guard the president's cell.

a coupla ways:
i was in my late 20s, and working as a film critic (among other things) when i saw it...
1) it mighta been the first time i noticed how the cinematography itself was complicit in the narrative construction of events...
2) it was the first time i recall seeing such self-destructive (but otherwise innocent) perversity so understandingly portrayed.
3) i was (and still am) into kurosawa, and it seemed to me to be a 'european' japanese film. i really 'noticed' the commonalities in the conventions of film...
the night porter's still my favorite example of film noir...cuz its an homage as well as stretching the envelope...

So the Republiscum and Fat Bastard in particular have been lying about being responsible for Foley's resignation. the lesson is that when people are invaded, oppressed, killed, beaten, have their rights taken away etc. some people will resort to extreme tactics to resist. That doesn't make it right, or suicide bombing of civilians anything but abhorent, but as they say "actions have consequences".

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The new Dow Jones closing stock record "is not a triumph but a failure," said Robert Weiner, national Democratic issue strategist in an op-ed in the Washington, D.C. Examiner today.
In the piece, co-authored with policy analyst Richard Bangs, Weiner stated, "It has taken nearly seven years since the previous January 14, 2000 high under Clinton to get here. Also, inflation of some 20 percent since then would require more than a 2200 point increase (to approximately 14,000, not 11,800) to have a truly record-breaking new 'high.'" http://releases.usnewswire.com/G...se.asp?

Codpiece Haigiography "Young Fresh Republitude": How The GOP Deliberately Operated Against America For Over 30 Years. (Condensed) "To expose the cowardice of the ruling elite and the soft fruit of their GOP, war supportin' loins, I spoke with some young about why they are Republican. Fealty to authority is alarming on its own, but coupled with a wispy grasp of history and a boatload of inaccurate preconceptions it can become downright frightening: JiaMei Chen is a Chinese student at American River College in CA. Me: "What makes you a Republican?" JC: "My family's an influence, but also stuff I’ve seen. I grew up in Shanghai, and China's Communist. When I got here I saw a 2 party system, Liberals & Conservatives, Democrats & Republicans. The Liberals stand for welfare, support laziness, tax hardworking people, give it away for nothing. People sit on their butt and don’t do nothing. They drive a brand new Cadillac! What about hard-working-class people? We get taxed 50% out of pocket. That’s Socialist. So, the Liberals don’t make sense. Also religious belief. I won’t vote for a person that's Pro-Choice." Where does one start? It's all so wrong. When I saw this it sent chills down my spine. In essence it boils down to "Democrats are in favor of taking my money away and giving it to lazy niggers". It took me back 20 years to when I heard the canard "Cadillac-Driving Welfare Queens". Conservatives have anecdotes to capture the essence of their beliefs. One originated with Reagan on the subject of welfare. He cited a Chicago "Welfare Queen" who had stolen $150,000 from the government with 80 aliases, 30 addresses, 12 social security cards and 4 fictional dead husbands. The country was outraged, Reagan dutifully rolled back welfare, and the "Welfare Queen" driving her "Cadillac" became lodged in American political folklore, yet like most conservative False Flag ops, it wasn't true. The media searched for this cheat in hopes of interviewing her, only to discover that she didn't exist. As class warfare it diverted public attention away from Insider Traders in their Limos to Welfare Queens in their Cadillacs, even though the former were stealing 1000's of times more from Americans than the latter ever could. An example of this white collar crime became apparent years later when Bush I bailed out the S&L's with $500 Billion of taxpayer's money: enough to fund 20 years of federal AFDC. Reagan at his race-baiting best: Untrue, but what the hell, those shiftless niggers were going to bleed us dry. That this bit of flotsam managed to take hold in this Chinese immigrants imagination or in any mind as the truth disgusts and sickens me. - Posted by Kent. Comment: "This bit of flotsam" was pampered and stroked by the GOP as part of their 'base feed', keeping all kinds of special treats for various groups. It's a symbiotic relationship. They nurture the petty hates that divide so they can control them to pull their agenda at Elections."-Posted by Noteasy

Reporters and editors at Florida's St. Petersburg Times, The Miami Herald and the Fox News Channel all say they obtained e-mails that seemed to be between Rep. Mark Foley and a former congressional page -- but that they didn't have enough to go public with the story.
"We verified the accuracy of the email we had," says Neil Brown, executive editor of the St Petersburg Times. "We also spoke with congressman Foley and spoke with the boy's parents. Congressman Foley told us we had misinterpreted it -- and in fact maybe a page had misinterpreted it."
And there it largely stood for nearly a year.

Iraq plan 'fails to impress'
By Andrew North
BBC News, Baghdad
Baghdad residents are now seeing violence on a daily basis
The political storm in Washington sparked by US journalist Bob Woodward's new book - which suggests President Bush is concealing the level of violence in Iraq - has not been reflected in Baghdad.
The reason is simple. Most people, even American officials, know how bad things are.
It is in Baghdad that the situation is worst and there is a sense of desperation in the Iraqi government's announcement of yet another plan to tackle the sectarian violence tearing the city apart.
This is the third security initiative the government has come up with for the capital since it took office just four months ago.

Man, Battlestar was grim. It's like the writers visualized what living in Iraq under American occupation would be like. But maybe all forced occupations are the same. It sure scared the hell out of me, with the secret detentions, torture, and summary exections. The whole plot seems to be a straightforward extrapolation of what's happening under the Bush regime. With robots. That are hot.

So the bbc thinks rice went to middle east earlier this week to build a coalition against Iran.
As the columnist Saul Singer wrote in the Jerusalem Post on Friday: "Every time the White House decides to confront a rogue regime, the state department decides it's time to build a coalition."
Another writer, Abdallah Iskandar, put it this way in Al Hayat newspaper on Monday: "Condoleezza Rice arrives in the region today. Her announced aim is to revive the Middle East peace process and stiffen the Arab position against Iran.

Voter registrations faked in GOP drive
About 150 forms questioned in Metro, Williamson County
By JESSICA FENDER,
BONNA de la CRUZ
and BRAD SCHRADE
Staff Writers
At least five apparently bogus voter registration forms were submitted to the Metro Nashville election commission by a worker with ties to the Republican National Committee, and up to 150 other registrations have been called into question, The Tennessean has learned.
Election officials in Williamson County said they were probing three to five potentially fraudulent forms that might or might not be related to the Metro cases.

One imagines the debates probably get vetted.
One imagines the media will not let a one sided outcome be shaped. they need both sides to think there is a shot and cough up dough.
I'd demand for three debates that the candidate have a choice of one to forward or one to omit. The understanding being with stations that you do not cover it.
Ford's interview took part in Chattanooga. If he can handle a straight on talk there he can win it. His interview scored points, but I'm pretty biased in my opinion. I have a pragmatic appreciation of harold Ford.
"Slick" is the wrong word for him, "Sharp" is the right descriptive to use for him. He took away the republican spin on security, tariffs, immigration, jobs, energy, and armament.
Tobacco road democrats have to be pretty conservative, Ford is essntially a 'Rockefellor republican' of the standard model. Hawkish, business friendly.

Speakin' o' kitties, my big funny furry Felix fella (who had three teeth extracted yesterday) is feeling much better this evening. I was able to give him his pain medicine -- in something my boss told me about, CatSip. It's lactose-free milk with taurine (which cats need), sold in little juice-box type containers. She said her elderly frail cat will go to town on that when she won't eat anything else -- so I figured it would be all right for Felix, with his sore mouth.
Well, he loved it. His little brother Frango loved it. I think I'll have to get more. I was able to sneak Felix's medicine into his bowl of CatSip, and he spent the rest of the evening purring in my arms, stoned and happy.

Ford has big time vested backing. His situation is comparable to the bubba Clinton fiasco.
It cannot deter from his statesmanship, whatever his uncle may have done or will do.
Think about it- Memphis(Union banking, Cotton trade, transit center, Fed Ex, AutoZone, suburban sprawl model).
Harold Ford has dealt with these subjects quite admirably.
Ohhh, there's also TVA and tobacco interests(very hawkish and even shapes foreign policy, see also Cuba).
His area trend froom urban towards rural. The guy can touch issues on every base, he will give enough to get support where needed which is what you look for in a politician.

WAR IS OVER
If you want it.
My sister e-mailed me out of the blue to ask if I wanted to see the US vs John Lennon film. We're both Beatles fans through and through, and I think my sister was far better off seeing it with me than with my BIL, who is OK with the Beatles but isn't above bringing people down just to prove the point that everyone doesn't have to love the Beatles, individually or collectively.
I did expect the film to focus more on the machinations between the government agencies to boot Lennon out of the US. And that's in there, but there was a lot more of John and Yoko. And I found it poignant, not only because J&Y truly are a beautiful couple, but because it recalled the richness of the 60s-70s spirit, when people did take to the streets and brought a corrupt government down.
Has anyone else seen the movie and wished Lennon were back? We could sure use him.
