HULK SMASH!!!

GravatarSad.

GravatarPowell should feel totally humiliated by how he was used.

The "good soldier" following orders.

GravatarWow. You're right, Atrios.

Gravatarand Bush the man known for his loyalty fired his ass anyway

All you need to know
Bush keeps Rumsfeld fires Powell

GravatarNancy P should invited Powell to meet with the Democrats and help them work out a bi partisan plan for Iraq

GravatarOne way for him to restore his former reputation is to switch to supporting and being a Democrat. He could be a conservatve Dem, fiscally and strong on enlightened and effective defence. I think that would be great for the US.

GravatarOf course, Margaret Carlson doesn't come off looking too good in that exchange, either.

What a nitwit.

GravatarYou didn't clap loud enough Colin, now Tinker Bell is on the verge of civil war. How was that Karl?

Well sir, you can't actually use the 'clap' phrase as such...

GravatarAll you need to know
Bush keeps Rumsfeld fires Powell

Powell did not control Bush the way Rumsfeld and Cheney do. He was expendable.

GravatarRepubliscum out!

Gravatari love watching all the neocom bastards desert the p.o.s. in the WH.

GravatarPowell did not control Bush the way Rumsfeld and Cheney do. He was expendable.
watertiger |

State is expendable for the Busheviks... which is why Condi is there now, and Bolton is at the UN ensuring almost nothing really gets done.

GravatarYour not going to believe this. There's an owl in here.

Gravatari love watching all the neocom bastards desert the p.o.s. in the WH.
ql Beale

Not deserting, they're just "transferring to a unit in Alabama".

GravatarPowell should feel totally humiliated by how he was used.

McCain, too. But they just keep lappin' it up, going along to get along. For what, I don't know - a pat on the head by the worst president in American history?

GravatarThat's what happens when you sell your soul to Satan. Satan tosses you like a used kleenex when he is done and you're covered with Satan boogers.

GravatarFrom below:

I have no intention of being gracious or magnanimous to these assholes.

I plan on telling them the same thing they told us after the 2004 "election".

"If you don't like it, you can leave the country."
Terry C, Hates GOP

That's the kind of "eye for an eye" mentality that leaves everybody blind. If we want genuine change, it has to start with us.
just sayin'

Bite me!

GravatarSatan tosses you like a used kleenex when he is done and you're covered with Satan boogers.
Troutski

Those aren't boogers...

GravatarThere was a poll on the CNN page asking if you believed in Big Foot and 30 something percent said yes. I wonder if these are the same people who think things are going swimmingly in Iraq?

GravatarOne way for him to restore his former reputation is to switch to supporting and being a Democrat. He could be a conservatve Dem, fiscally and strong on enlightened and effective defence. I think that would be great for the US.
Bad Art

No, thank you.

GravatarAnd don't forget Tony Blair - those two together are just as responsible as Bush and the gang, because they gave the idiots worldwide credibility.

GravatarPowell--and Rice, too--was (and condi still is) ALWAYS were tokens in the bushevik regime...

they were the ones the busheviks sent out to defend the indefensible...

they were used this way to defuse criticisms. critics who called stupid fucking policies 'stupid fucking policies' could be framed as 'racists,' or 'bigots' in any case, because the criticisms of the policies would be cast as criticisms of the spokesperson--Powell/Rice.

House kneegrows, doncha know...
./

Gravatarfresh poll owls

GravatarPowell has become a tragic figure. He spent his whole life rebuilding the military and espousing the doctrine of overwhelming force, and yet in his last job his actions ruin the military and fail to utilize his doctrine. What a waste of a life. What happened to the true hero, you know the one who stands up to stupidity irrespective as to his loyalties? I think of President' Kennedy's "Profiles in Courage", and then I think were there ever a second volume published Mr. Powell would not be the subject of a chapter.

GravatarOf course, Margaret Carlson doesn't come off looking too good in that exchange, either.

The woman is a walking, talking Camel Toe.

GravatarYou mean "oil tanker" Rice?

GravatarYour not going to believe this. There's an owl in here.

And Blackwell and Keyes and JC Watts....

Self-haters, one and all.

GravatarColin Powell has no credibility left, and as far as I'm concerned is untrustworthy till he's dead.

If he's willing to gin up a bullshit case for a poorly-planned and unnecessary war in front of the whole world, he can go fuck himself from now till the end of time.

GravatarDidn't Powell attempt to cover up My Lai?

Some courage.

Gravatar1. Powell's an African American.
2. Powell knows this.
3. Powell also knows that Condi is only there cause she's GW's chocolate desert and he has no such status to protect him.
4. Powell also knows that this WH is pro-bigot if being as such will give them enough of the bigot vote to go over the top and win an election.
5. Powell knows that he had to tow a fine line or else find his face on the evening news where he discovers that unknown to him he was suddenly outed as a communist-liberal-gayloving weirdo whom the commanderinchief never trusted and was wise enough to keep away from any of the major decision making processes.

Powell couldn't have done anything to stop this whole Iraq thing from happening.
He will no doubt spend the rest of his life knowing his decision to be part of this will ensure his legacy of being a successfull joint chief chairman is now overshaddowed by him being a whore to a bunch of white corporatists.

GravatarIf we want genuine change, it has to start with us.

i'm gonna start by kickin' some ass...
that way nobody goes blind, just gets their asses kicked...

GravatarEvery Black Republican is a disgrace because they serve Confederacy overloads in compassionate clothing.

GravatarEmbrace of Nixon's Southern Strategy (blech)

GravatarI belive one other man, who actually opposed the war publicly, could have stopped it.

Pope John Paul II could have stopped it by going to Baghdad as a human shield.

That would've been grand.

MYOB, it's "toe the line," not "tow the line."

Haloscan haste, I know it well.

GravatarSad when you consider that the Powell Doctrine was the right prescription here-he knew what had to be done, but let it pass like a good soldier.

GravatarThe sooner Colin Powell is forgotton, the better. In fact, I had forgotten him already.

GravatarForgotton?

GravatarPowell's error can be summed up this way: he was loyal to the president, when in fact he was supposed to be loyal to the people, the country, and the Constitution.

GravatarPowell's reputation was always inflated for no good reason at all. Margaret Carlson as usual was guilty of shitty judgment based on no evidence other than what the kewl kidz were saying.

GravatarWhat makes Powell so odious is that what he did for Bush, was that same as what he critizied about the Viet Nam era generals did for Nixon.

GravatarMy son did a book report on a Colin Powell hagiography last year (6th grade). After he turned it in I told him about what Powell did to facilitate the war.

My son popped a fuse.

"Why didn't you tell me??!!!??"

He never would have finished the assignment or he would have ended up in big trouble.

GravatarTime to update "The Powell Doctrine"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Pow...Powell_Doctrine

Ass kissing and career management trump these vital questions.

* Is a vital national security interest threatened?
* Do we have a clear attainable objective?
* Have the risks and costs been fully and frankly analyzed?
* Have all other non-violent policy means been fully exhausted?
* Is there a plausible exit strategy to avoid endless entanglement?
* Have the consequences of our action been fully considered?
* Is the action supported by the American people?
* Do we have genuine broad international support?

GravatarPowell was the reason Bush was elected. Without Powell standing next to Bush tens of thousand would not have voted for him because it was universally accepted that Bush was a stupid ignorant dolt on foreign policy. I saw several quotes in 2000 from voters say in effect they know he is a no nothing but will have good advisors.

In a very real sense Bush owes his presidency to Powell. For his efforts Cheney tried to take the SOS away from Powell but Bush was too loyal. So Cheney just proceeded to undermine Powell at every turn and often with Bush's ignorant help, heep humiliation after humiliation on him.

So what did Powell do. He rolled over with the UN speech. Again, the war could not have happend without Powell.

Thanks Colin. I for one put every dead body and every dollar wasted and every comming death here from terror attack on your shoulders. I hope your 10 figure net worth makes it seem worth it to you.

GravatarI don't fault him for signing on with these scumbags initially, because if, in 2000 (or any other time) someone called me up and said

You. We want you to be Secretary of State of the United States of America. Thomas Jefferson's and George Marshall's old gig. Secretary. Of. Fucking. State.

. . . maybe you people would have had enough character to turn it down, but I'm not so sure I would have, no matter who was doing the asking. Plus, at the time he signed on, it wasn't clear how batshit this administration was.

What I do fault him for is not quitting earlier. Say, when they asked him to do that that PowerPoint presentation at the UN. I wish he'd quit because he didn't want to work for traitors and not because the traitors weren't showing him the proper respect.

GravatarI don't understand the people who are saying Powell and/or McCain are being used and they should realize it and change their ways.

Folks, the more likely scenario is that WE are the ones being used by even remotely trusting these people to begin with.

I used to think that Powell was a good person, but now I wonder if he was just better at consistently managing his image than Bush or McCain are.

We all rail about how the Democrats were so stupid to put their faith in McCain for the torture bill; we are we doing it with Powell.

Until there is a clear, discernable revolution within the Republican party that we can verify with actions rather than words we should always assume that anyone that is a part of it cannot be trusted.

GravatarThe Powell Doctrine:

* Is a vital national security interest threatened?
* Do we have a clear attainable objective?
* Have the risks and costs been fully and frankly analyzed?
* Have all other non-violent policy means been fully exhausted?
* Is there a plausible exit strategy to avoid endless entanglement?
* Have the consequences of our action been fully considered?
* Is the action supported by the American people?
* Do we have genuine broad international support?

Iraq: 0 out of 8.
Congratulations, Colon Bowel.

GravatarOne way for him to restore his former reputation is to switch to supporting and being a Democrat. He could be a conservatve Dem, fiscally and strong on enlightened and effective defence. I think that would be great for the US.
Bad Art

-Bullshit.

He had his chance to stop the war.
He sucked up to Bush.
Powell can be damned with Bush, and he will be.
Powell as a Democrat?
If it were to happen, I wouldn't trust him.
He's a Bush toady.
Fuck him.

GravatarColin Powell had better information that most of the people in Congress, and he still chose to support this war.

His place is with his warmongering colleagues: in the Hague, on trial for crimes of war.

GravatarI saw Powell give a "Speech" in Sarasota, Fla a few months ago. It was one of those town hall things. He talked about how cool driving the pace car for NASCAR was, what he really missed not being in the administration was having his plane waiting for him. No mention of war or Iraq. He was a real asshole. Of course the sheeple ate this shit up.

GravatarCertainly, Powell has much to answer fo, but he is not alone, by a long shot. There is Tony Blair, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry -- to name a few. And where were the Republicans? Only Licoln Chaffee vote against the Iraq war resolution in the Senate. And don't forget the media.

So, while Powell shares responsibility, I do believe that if all these other blokes had said no!, Bush would have been stymied.

Gravatar'Colon Bowel" got his start in Vietnam as a major with the Americal Division trying to cover up the Mylai Massacre.

Seymour Hersh kicked his ass with the now famous expose' of the whole disgusting coverup.

Thirty some odd years later, the same Seymour Hersh again kicked Powell's ass by exposing Abu Graib when Colon was Sec of State in the latest criminal enterprise of the Reich Wingnuts.

He's an Oreo.

A rancid one at that.

GravatarHe's probably the most recognizable character in the movie Mars Attacks. Pretty funny, and the movie came out before the war.
