McCloskey tried to knock him out at the primary - went to the extent of changing his residence in order to be in the district in order to do it. Pombo is and always was one of the most evil creatures in the West, and the amount of damage he wreaked even while not accomplishing all that he wanted, is stunning - what he would have done is horrifying.

NPR just had a reminiscence from Alice Furlow (sp?) about her cat, Miss Pudding, who died July 13th. And I got misty eyed--OK, a bit more than misty.
She closed by saying one of her reliefs about Miss Pudding dying when she did is that she no longer has to fear that she may die before her cat, leaving Miss Pudding alone to one morning pad into the bedroom, knock the green pen onto the floor, her wake-up call, and there would be no waking her mistress up.
Hit me because I'm getting old enough that I have to face that--with Mitsy, my under a year-old cat.... When I adopted my cats this Spring, I had to specify how they would be cared for if I were incapcitated or died. Talk about intimiations of mortality!

That's exactly correct. Instead of being in the slightest bit patriotic, Republicans have stood for no one o0ther than themselves, setting our country back 20 years at least.
Meanwhile, the rest of the world has NOT stood still. These people are treasonous, seditious, larcenous criminals and should be treated as such. There will be time to "embrace bipartisanship" AFTER, but NOT before the GOP has been held to account.

GOP spokesman: Hayworth lost race
Associated Press
Though U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth wants to count every ballot in his losing bid for re-election, the National Republican Congressional Committee seems to have given up.
NRCC Communications Director Carl Forti told Republicans in an e-mail that Hayworth and several other GOP incumbents wouldn't be returning to Congress. ...
Reached on his cell phone Friday, Forti told the AP that the memo wasn't meant to be published and the NRCC hasn't conceded the race.
I think they better count every fucking vote and then get the wooden stake.

Natch.
Speaking of which, I'm not sure which I enjoyed more while standing in line at the grocery store yesterday: the tabloid headlines blaring that Katie Couric had already been fired by panicky network executives unnerved by her abysmal ratings, or the tabloid headlines about Laura Bush trying to push her husband into alcohol rehab in a last-ditch effort to save their marriage.
Marie Steichen died two months ago but she won a battle to become a county commissioner for a small South Dakota town in the US elections, an official said.
Jerauld county auditor Cindy Peterson said that the election list closed on August 1, and while Steichen died from cancer in September her name was kept on the list for Tuesday's election.
Steichen beat a Republican rival by 100 votes to 64 and Peterson said she believed that voters knew the woman was dead but wanted to make their political point.
Marie Steichen didn't just win the election, her Republican opponent was an incumbent.

I think it's because there are a lot of folks who aren't thrilled with Dean's notion of "taking our country back".

i don't want to say i hate a plant, but cottonwoods are very close to making the cut. i'm sooooo glad i don't have to clean out the gutters now that i live in an apartment again, all those little fuzzy things really annoyed the crap out of me during spring planting time.

Gee, Karl, ya think?
watertiger
Karl looks at statistics the way some of the folks I work with do - to justify whatever the hell deal they're trying to get thru at that time. Problem is, in my line of work, we are dealing with data from production test results. Rove is dealing with a much less predictable population to the point that I would consider his comparing past elections results to this one invalid.
Rove thinks that Lie-by winning re-election validates his idea that people are not all that pissed about the war in Iraq. I'm not convinced of that either.

Dr. Dean had the ill grace to proven correct. The walls to "the club" have been breached and the members are seeing the value of their exclusive membership cards depreciate before their eyes. It is in many cases, these Democrats, that are spoken of with such distaste by some intellectuals of the Right. Not, it appears, without some cause.

GWPDA, if you don't mind, how high was your fasting blood sugar level? Read that on Byetta you're down to 85. Wow.
I mentioned earlier that my endo doesn't think 115 FBG is that bad, to just not eat sugar (!), and my primary care physician (PCP) thinks it's terrible, but that Byetta is not on label for pre-diabetics and, anyway, it could be dangerous since it's so new--and I should just treat food as poison.
The latter was after I asked if working with a nutritionist might be helpful since my dieting doesn't work so well on Synthroid and whatever else might be going on.
It was an amazing appointment. Earlier, he had told me my cholesterol micro-testing showed I had some of the really bad types of LDL and that he would want to prescribe something for it. Now, it's just if I were on a desert island with no food I would lose weight (and die, he added), but clearly if I treated food as poison I would lose weight. I think he has a point! All I need is an eating disorder, such as anexoria--those people view food as poison, right?

jawbone, I think it's really, really important that you change physicians.
115FBG is definitive evidence of Impaired Fasting Glucose - "pre-diabetes". THat is not some mild, oh gosh not really diabetes, nor indeed is insulin resistance just a little 'glitch'. You have diabetes. It will get worse. Your body will exhaust your beta-cells, you will encounter all the various consequences and you will become overtly, definitely ill. If your endocrinologist is unaware of the current blood sugar levels and their indications then I would not wish him as my endocrinologist - that would be about as useful as having a GP who thought a bone sticking thru your shin might someday pose a problem but would 'probably be all right.' As for being 'off-label", I fail to see what that even means, other than to serve as a way to prevent your medical problem from being resolved. The designation is one that is claimed by the manufacturer, not the physicians prescribing it, any more than some vague, superstitious belief that the medication is somehow analogous to other diabetes drugs that were withdrawn from the market. That such a comment would be made to you suggests medical ignorance of alarming proportion.
As tho you didn't know that when being told to treat food as poison, or having it conveyed to you, apparently that Synthroid causes weight gain.
You need better, competent physicians. The ones you have are idiots.

Like I said yesterday:
THEY were going to "curb stomp" US.
-------------------------------------
Just making up a quote retroactively does not qualify as truth. The party in question has to have actually used the quote one is attempting to attribute to them, or one is merely engaging in ad hominem framing.
-------------------------------------
THEY were going to make US leave "their" country.
-------------------------------------
Ditto, although this is incrementally closer to the truth of what was stated, which is that "they" seem to believe it is their perogative to do do whatever they want with impunity and entirely disregard our rights, especially as they STOLE TWO ELECTIONS.
-------------------------------------
THEY were going to come drag US off in the middle of the night and put US in camps.
------------------------------------
Ten minutes research wil prove that Halliburton has in fact built several prison camps on our US soil.

Over 14 years the Tracy area was destined to become less conservative. More and more Bay Area folks move out there because the real estate is a bit cheaper, although a LOT more expensive today than 20 years ago. It's transitioning, if it hasn't already, from Valley to Bay Area.

Along with J.D. Hayworth's defeat, Pombo going down was the highlight of Tuesday evening in the House races. Both of those guys represent the worst elements of the GOP and they're both rock-stupid to boot. (Hayworth was described once as "so dumb, he needs cue cards to remember his cliches.") It's a pleasure to see them gone from Congress where they can do no more harm.
Hayworth still has not conceeded his race?! Will someone crack that idiot upside his fat head and tell him he lost? Sheesh.
