You may have seen this already, but I have just enjoyed this list of people who can now STFU over at HuffPo. Not a clunker among them. My dad, a big B-17 pilot-hero of sorts, served in the same 8th Air Force in England during World War II and he likes this movie, too, which, in his words, 'represents an America that used to be.'
Excuse me, now, while I run tell him about 31 per cent. It'll make his day.

It may be worth nothing that Peck's relationship with Millard Mitchell was so good that they were reunited for "The Gunfighter," with King once again directing.
Cultish now, but a failure then, which Zanuck, then running Fox, blamed on "the idiot who put a mustache on Gregory Peck."
Thinking of Peck now reminds me still of Bush's failure to mention this wonderful man the day he died, caused no doubt by the right wing's lingering hatred of Peck's life-long liberalism and particularly his role in defeating Robert Bork.

Well, compared to Rumsfeld, he wasn't. If you like that "glory of chivalry in war" kool-aid.
Also, Rommel tried to assasinate Hitler.
We have quite a few people of Rommel's caliber in our military.
The fact that they might behave in a similar way towards a tyrant is exactly why Rummy got fired, Cheney got benched, and Poppy took the driver's seat.

If it holds up as anything more than a delightful outlier, 31% will mean Bush's approval ratings are about half what Clinton's were at the same point is their respective terms as President.
It's not the end of the world to be at 31 per cent in the White House; Turman left it in 1953 with approval of 23 per cent. In his case, though, it was caused by the public's total ignorance with resulting remedial reappraisals coming almost immediately which still stand.
But now I ask myself, 'What can Bush do that could modify his standing? What could he do that has gone unappreciated? How has public opinion wronged him?
Is there any conclusion other than that fate has caught up with him and that history will acccept without change the judgement that's already been made?

I thought Oily Dick was at 18% a few months ago. I won't be happy with the state of the nation until both of them are below 20%.
Chimp's rating can only go down from here. With the Congress in Dem hands, we can look forward to press conferences of frustrated pissy-pants whining now that the spoiled brat won't be getting his way unchallenged anymore.
The Rove machine always ran more on fear of ruthless, unchallengeable power than real loyalty, and that illusion is now broken. Some of the former victims of BushCo's fear-based intimidation in the bureaucracy and the press who still have smidgen of self-respect will be aiming for payback for their years of humiliation and to redeem their reputations.
Gore Vidal may yet be proven right, that Chimp will leave office the most unpopular prez in history.
Can you imagine him in retirement doing good works for charity or global cooperation like Carter or Clinton? Most likely he'll disappear back to Houston, selling the Potemkin Ranch now that it has no use as a political prop. Medicated Laura will leave him de facto if not de jure, and he'll have nothing to do now that his usefulness as a pliable puppet for the string-pullers is spent. Then he'll drink himself into decline.

I'm speculating that the sudden dropoff to 31 percent can be attributed to republicans, who when polled previously, would have indicated approval just to spite the polsters. Now that the election is over, even they feel liberated to express their disaproval of the regime.
