The Chicago Tribune, for example, called for Bill Clinton's resignation in a September 15, 1998, editorial. One reason the Tribune gave was that Clinton's statements about the Monica Lewinsky matter would make it difficult to trust him in the future: "Who will know when he's telling the truth and when he's not, whether he's being sincere or play-acting, whether his word is his bond or just another artful dodge?"

Monica's a professor or something now. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Chicago Tribune.

GravatarPatient in Monica's office: "Do I have to lie down, or can we do this standing up?"

GravatarRe: Carol Lam, I had posted this article yesterday from the local San Diego paper.

Even her opponents can't figure out why she's being asked to leave.
Some say it may have something to do with her lack of prosecutions of illegal aliens but that sounds like bullshit.
“What do they want her to do, lock up Mexico?” said Mario Conte, former chief of Federal Defenders of San Diego Inc. Conte, now a professor at California Western School of Law in downtown San Diego, said every prosecutor walks a tightrope.

I think it may have more to do with the fact that federal prosecutors don't need to go through a confirmation process if they are replacing one that has left office due to dismissal or some other reason because of a provision in the Patriot Act.
In other words it's a chance for Cuckoo Bananas to stack the prosecutors offices across the country with whack job lackeys. Rachel Maddow said the other day that several federal prosecutors have been asked to step down.

GravatarSeems pretty friggin' convenient to me. AJ in DC over at Americablog postulated recently that the surge is coming at a time when violence in Iraq tends to go down and if it does as it's expected to, the surge will be timed for the downgrade of violence and as a direct effect, injuries/attacks should go down and progress should go, unhindered by those attacks.

Very easy for Iraqi progress to be highlighted in that scenario.

"Hey look! Attacks are down and Iraqis are patrolling the streets again. The surge worked! Hooray, we can all go home now!"

If all goes as planned, we'll begin to "pullout" but of course we won't be going far as this will save the presidency in terms of the Iraq quagmire just as we're getting ready to go into Iran.

EPA PUTS LIBRARY ACTION PLAN ON HOLD

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has no plans to shut down more of its libraries and has ceased destroying duplicative research materials until it answers questions from Congress, a spokesperson said Friday.

Jessica Emond, the deputy press secretary at the EPA, said the agency has rescheduled “the recycling” of EPA materials that are duplicates or obsolete.

GravatarOver at Kos, there is a beautiful statement from Jim Webb

I also want to say something about my longtime friend, Senator McCain's comments when he was talking about the consequences of pulling out of Iraq and in your statement, Secretary Gates, you list some of these as an emboldened and strengthened Iran, a base of operations for jihadist networks in the heart of the Middle East, an undermining of the credibility of the United States. In many ways, quite frankly, those have been the results of the invasion and occupation. There's really nothing that's occurred since the invasion and occupation that was not predictable and in fact, most of it was predicted. It was predicted in many cases by people with long backgrounds in national security...and in many cases there were people who saw their military careers destroyed and who were personally demeaned by people who opposed them on the issues, including members of this administration. And they are people in my judgment, who will be remembered in history as having had a moral conscience.

Gravatarwatertiger - he's a sniveling little shit and he's more likely to just get drunk.

Gravatar Tony Blair has turned the blame for his disastrous military campaigns in the Middle East on anti-war dissidents and the media.

Warning it would take the West another 20 years to defeat Islamic terrorism, the Prime Minister used a wide-ranging "swansong" lecture on defence to denounce critics and the media who have been a thorn in his side since the invasion of Iraq.

He also dismissed those - including many defence chiefs - who claimed the invasion of Iraq and its aftermath had fuelled insurgents and terrorism.

The Prime Minister rejected as "ludicrous" the notion that removing two dictatorships in Afghanistan and Iraq and replacing them with a UN-backed process to democracy had made Britain a greater target for international terrorism.

However, Mr Blair's speech last night provoked widespread criticism from MPs and military chiefs.

GravatarOut here in the lap of the San Gabriels it's been below freezing three nights in a row.

Is that where the orange crop is that they're so worried about?

GravatarThe real question is: what qualifies as "working"?

GravatarInteresting how as soon as it became obvious no one wants to go along with this escalation, Gates pipes up and says, "Oh yeah, and if it works we can start doing what you all really want." Face it, they pulled that one out of their asses once it dawned on them that no one's buying.

As if they have the slightest intention of drawing down troops, regardless of whether the plan works.

GravatarIsn't this the same Gates who, working for the "bowel" movement conservatives and the CIA, stabbed President Jimmy Carter and the 52 Americans held hostage in Iran back in 1979, by going behind Carter's back to cut a deal with the Iranians to release the hostages only after President Carter left office?

Thus, as Reagan was being sworn in, the hostages were released in January 1980. And as per the agreement between the "bowel" movement conservatives and the Iranians, the Reagan administration immediately started shipping arms to Teheran.

As far as today goes, our country and the White House need an enema...to flush out all the "bowel" movement conservatives...before they do anymore damage to our democracy.

Gravatar2 F.U.s, give or take.
