Aw, the old thread was just getting started.

Best i've ever seen...

anyone see the youtube video yesterday ((posted on daily kos)) showing hillary using all of bush/cheney's arguments with the code pink delegation just prior to 'shlock and awe?'

such a sweet little warpig.

GravatarThanks for calling the new thread, guys!

Yay!

GravatarBah.

GravatarAw, the old thread was just getting started.

We can start this one.

GravatarQL, seems fair to have one room for Mr QL, it is all I want or need. But it is my secret place. The place where dreams live and the magic happens.

The total bookshelves in here are 16 feet long by 6 feet high. (Hold most of my books - sigh)

Oddly enough, it's now 2007. Got any new footage?

GravatarRichard - that was amazing.

GravatarHumbug.

NTodd, Sex Panther

No, but we seem to be up to our asses in Anna Nicole footage.

GravatarThere's a gentleman gardener, who despite his advancing years, has a slew of roses, and trellised
grapes, and puts in veggies and gaudy annuals each year. Over the years, he has painstakingly created polite but firm signs requesting dog owners clean up after their pets. Seems to work,

GravatarIsn't the record 9 in a row? I seem to recall that. Even if so, it doesn't diminsh Richard's amazing achievement. And if I'm wrong, well, then Richard is truly a god among men.

GravatarNo, but we seem to be up to our asses in Anna Nicole footage.

Did she vote for the AUMF in 2002?

Gravatary'know, the Sci Fi channel doesn't really need to advertise that their latest "made for Sci Fi" movie stars Lance Henriksen.

He's in every one of them. Along with Michael Ironside.

GravatarThe 20 second rule defeats me every time and I have all but given up on the whole thing.

GravatarThe surge it is happening;

'An explosion killed three U.S. troops and wounded four others as the soldiers searched a building for a weapons cache in Diyala province in Iraq, the U.S. military announced Saturday.

The killings on Friday raise the February death toll for U.S. troops to 37.

Since it began in 2003, the war has taken the lives of 3,113 U.S. troops and seven Department of Defense civilians. '

I've always been an ass man.

Gravatarthe fact that hilary 'bought' all of the white house lies about iraq when there was an international peace movement arguing the opposite speaks volumes.

GravatarMark Hamill was in John Carpenter's "Village of the Damned"?

Gravatarthe fact that hilary 'bought' all of the white house lies about iraq when there was an international peace movement arguing the opposite speaks volumes.

Oddly enough, the majority of Americans and their Congressional delegations bought it. Sad that nobody is able to learn, grow and change their minds...

GravatarActually Hilary's arguments (along with Edwards as well) about Iran basically show she is the same person who supported all the lies leading up to the war.

GravatarLet's see, the last kind of war we should be getting into is an urban house to house kind, right?

Exactly, dear one. There will be a hell of a lot more casualties with the "New Way Forward'.

Not like there is a civil war going on in Iraq or anything.

Grapes of Wrath. Old folks are often teh master gardeners. I remember as a kid taking family trips to my uncle's place. To me, he seemed so old, that he must have been around 53 at birth. But Dayum, could he create a gorgeous garden.

NTodd, Sex Panther

i'm not so sure that's a valid argument. the american people can almost be forgiven- perhaps never have we seen a period in history in which the media was not only so uncritical, but outright acting as agents in the propaganda push before the war. the combination of that and the aftereffects of 911 allow me to forgive, but not forget that many americans just like me saw through that bullshit despite what we were told by the wise of the beltway.

but i don't forgive congresscritters, and i don't forgive hillary in particular. former presidents still get daily intel briefings, and for crying out loud, she'd only been out of the white house for a few years. did she really think that what bill didn't consider worth more than no-fly zones had metasticized into a mushroom cloud threat in that short time? if she did, she's not fit to be president.

Gravatarthe fact that hilary 'bought' all of the white house lies about iraq when there was an international peace movement arguing the opposite speaks volumes.

GravatarEchidne of the snakes, good idea. I've checked so many stores and nada. These days I'm using a modest little side table that's set on a flat plant wheel thing you get at home depot, so the tv can move around a bit. Sort of mickey mouse but it does the trick and it's inconspicuous.

I really think that seeing people vote some one she knew to be totally unfit to be president ruined any respect that Hillary, and a lot of reps, had for the voters. Seeing them blind as bats, and inexcusably so, it was so obvious he had no character, I think they all went with the flow until they could open the eyes of the hideously blind electorate.

And btw I found a fantastic World Press Photo Award for 2006 and posted it just now at the hojmepage.

I saw that, too, Ruth, and was a bit amazed, as I was by Brian Williams' comment after the ANS coverage to the effect that "some web pages" are pointing out the death of a female soldier as more newsworthy. But of course, no cite of which website(s) he was perusing.

"my fellow americans, i spent 8 years in the white house at the side of my husband, the president who brought your peace, prosperity, and a totally contained saddam hussein. i'm here to tell you that saddam had nothing to do with 9/11, that he is a secularist who hates osama, and that an invasion of his nation while osama is still on the loose is the worst possible waste of our precious national resources. bush sr. himself understood the risks of a war of choice in iraq, and like that former republican president, i'm standing before you today to oppose his son's reckless and illogical push to war in iraq. terrorism is a threat that my husband and i understood well in the previous decade, which is why whenever there was an attack, or threat of one, there was a swift response by the police and intelligence forces of the US government. the answers to the threat of terrorism are complex, but i know as a nation we can not only come up with them, but employ them in a way that won't upset the delicate balance of power in the middle east at the expense of our national financial and international standing. i oppose giving this president, himself with a shaky record of military service, sweeping and unprecidented powers when what is truly called for is a sober, thoughtful evaluation of the situation. this is no time for the people of the united states to kill and die for the ego of one insecure son trying to overcome his father's shadow."

I agree completely with this. I think she and the rest of them "critters" knew that case being made the the Bush administration was bullshit and just went along for the ride for political expediency.

That the administration's song and dance was a steaming pile of crap was pretty easy to uncover for folks like us simply using the intertubes. They have no excuse on that particular score. Surely they were aware of stuff like this:

Gravatarrespectfully, tbsa- talking does make a huge difference. perhaps not to have stopped the invasion, but think of how different things would be today if democrats had stood firm in opposition to the war from day one. public support for the war has been slipping steadily since it began, and with each new "surge" or "push" it's been increasingly clear that the only people "winning" are the war profiteers. people, Little People like us, understood that, but lacked the public microphone to express it. the so-called sheeple, the ones swayed by the likes of the bobbleheads, perhaps would've had different opinions had there been a vocal, united, repeated anti-war emphasis from the democratic party.

04 may have been different. the economy may have been different. so many things could have been different, if our "opposition leadership" had acted like opposition, or leaders.

http://americablog.blogspot.com/...tion- about.html
Michael writes:
"The floating pleasure palace is a reconfigured Boeing 757 stored at Andrews Air Force Base with Air Force One and the rest of the fleet of executive aircraft."

"The aircraft has a game room, stateroom, showers, a communications center and seats 42 to 50 people, according to the Air Force."

"It costs taxpayers $22,000 an hour to operate, according to military and congressional sources."

So my question: why does the Air Force even have such a plane? Who uses this plane? Who has been using it? Forget what Nancy wants... why the heck are we taxpayers paying for a floating pleasure palace to begin with?

Sorry, GWPDA - a lady I admire almost more than anyone.

This coupling that we all have to go through before finding the right mate (if ever) is really troublesome.

SOmeone posted last night that some supermodel or another was having trouble getting dates. Could be. When I was in college I had a dear friend named Diane. She was a singularly beautiful young woman but she was a bit Dutch girl. 6'4". (I used to go out with her cause she wanted someone to hang around with. She hated tall men dating short women. But what a great feeling having her on your arm )

I guess we learn too late that it is better to have someone we like rather than someone we desire. Hopefully we get both: but if you have a choice, choose the first one)

GravatarAfternoon, rational people.

I remember now why I rarely work weekends. It breaks into my nap time.

Gravatarql- the fact that bill parroted the bush line is one of the reasons i'm not such a big fan anymore. i won't bash him, but i will say this: there were no WMDs and he knew it.

put it another way: think of what it would've been like had hillary (with a bill keeping his mouth shut like a good former president) had been vocally anti war since day one. sure, she wouldn't have 50million from certain pro-war rich folks in her war chest, but should would be in a position today to gloat and gloat about how right she was, and how strong she proved herself to be, standing up to the lemmings and shills and warmongers who are now so obviously proven wrong.

demonize? hello- she has and always will be demonized in our media, even if she were to drop out of politics and become a baptist home maker tomorrow. she had an opportunity, to show her leadership, to prove she was tough, to demonstrate that she could do the right thing in the face of opposition. it would've won people like me over, and better still, given her a terrific narrative to run on in 08. "see, i was right before it was fashionable, before everyone else, and i stuck to my guns."

i have a lot of theories why she didn't do this, but the bottom line is i'm just not impressed with her. there was a real liberal woman there at one point, now she's just another beltway insider trying to please and not piss anyone off at any time, ready to be sold to the highest campaign contributor. and the important part: hundreds of thousands are dead, wounded, maimed, and the threat of terrorism is higher for decades to come. that's nothing to defend.

GravatarInterviews on NBC last evening with soldiers in this situation showed everyone they had on thought it was a mistake.||Ruth

I saw that, too, Ruth, and was a bit amazed, as I was by Brian Williams' comment after the ANS coverage to the effect that "some web pages" are pointing out the death of a female soldier as more newsworthy. But of course, no cite of which website(s) he was perusing.

GravatarU.S. contractor shot by U.S. forces
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ 20070...raq_driver_shot
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military confirmed on Saturday that American forces at Camp Anaconda, the huge air base north of Baghdad, shot and killed a civilian contract truck driver.

A spokeswoman for KBR, a contracting subsidiary of Halliburton that was formerly known as Kellogg, Brown & Root, said the shooting was under investigation.

Melissa Norcross, the KBR spokeswoman, said the company was not releasing the name of the dead driver or a second person in the truck who was wounded "to protect the individuals' privacy."

In Baghdad, Lt. Cmdr. Bill Speaks said, "There was an escalation of force incident at Camp Anaconda on Feb. 5 (Monday) that resulted in the death of a civilian contractor. The incident is under investigation by the Army Criminal Investigation Division and KBR."

An escalation of force incident normally means a driver approaching a checkpoint did not respond to military orders to approach slowly and stop.

"Sadly, 98 KBR employees and subcontractors have lost their lives, and more than 430 have been wounded by hostile action while performing services under the company's government contracts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait," Norcross said in an e-mail response to queries about the incident.

ChiDyke, I think Hillary has been a good senator, and don't like her going along with the war but then Senator Yarborough didn't manage to stop Vietnam either. And didn't make it his career when that wasn't what he was elcted for.

GravatarThe problem with the Brian Williams segment was that he was too dense to see the irony in the media over-reporting the death of Anna Nichole Smith, and the death of a Marine in Iraq.

GravatarI will never forgive Hillary. She just wanted to run around up front on the war issue and it backfired on her. Now she backpedals.

Anyone who supported the giggling chimp should be tossed out of office, IMHO

GravatarLook, there's only one reason why so many of us knew that the reasons for the war were trumped up, if not out-and-out fabricated, and yet so many presidential hopefuls voted for the war:

They chose to practice politics rather than challenge the administration.

It's a sad state of affairs when political considerations outweigh what's truly best for America.

GravatarGWPDA,

Your eyes changed from Brown to green to gold? Cool. I started out with blue but now they are emerald green. Not sure if they will change in the future. It is interesting though.

Yeah, Diane met a tall guy and married him. But whenever societal expectations meet physical differentiation there are problems.

If there is a god and if I ever get a chance to ask the questions that have been burning within me for my entire lifetime, asking about why we find some people attractive is right at the top of the list.

Mondale lost. The polls were too close to call. It was a sweep for the Repubs everywhere. The people I talk to everyday who are pretty damned good bellweathers all were voting against Wellstone.

Jerome was a political analyst, too. Ever look at his record? It is to laugh.

In fairness he had a lot of company (kos for example) in 2002--the Year of Democratic Wishful Thinking. Till the night of the election, that is.

Sorry you bought into it.

Gravatarit's dinner and movie time, so i'll just end with this- look at those who did oppose the war before it began, and those who were wishy washy. the CBC is a good place to start: most of them still have their jobs, and now the seniority to chair commitees and whatnot. the republican-lite dems? not so much. if inarticulate black folks representing a bunch of uneducated, unclean negroes understood that opposing the war made sense, surely the wife of the most powerful democratic man in america could do so.

yeah, i'll vote for her. but trust me- she will let us down if elected. perhaps not on critical issues like choice or gay rights, but she's showing every sign of being a believer in the US "right" to make war on brown people with oil, even if her version will be "gentler."

GravatarHere is what Al Gore said about Saddam and WMD in September 2002:

We know that he has stored away secret supplies of biological weapons and chemical weapons throughout his country. ...

The president should be authorized to take action to deal with Saddam Hussein as being in material breach of the terms of the truce and therefore a continuing threat to the security of the region. To this should be added that his continued pursuit of weapons of mass destruction is potentially a threat to the vital interests of the United States.

On top of everything there was the completely ginned-up faux outrage over Wellstone's Memorial raging in the corporate media, which wouldn't have existed had he not died.

You'll notice I am not hanging my argument on it. If you go back and read you will notice there is considerably more to it.

You, on the other hand, are using the Wellstone funeral to support your argument that Paul woulda won--WTF?? And, Mondale had only a week to campaign but certainly he is well respected in MN and there MUST have been some sort of sympathy vote.

We'll never know for sure, but I'd stack my ability to smell the wind against yours any time. That's what it boils down to for both of us.

(I should tell you, in the interests of full disclosure, that I called the '72 election for McGovern. But I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.)

GravatarOf course the debate over Wellstone being re-elected is moot. And if you feed into my conspiracy theory, Cheney would want Wellstone taken out as insurance, couldn't risk him staying in the Senate. It's funny how it's always Bush family members around when Democrats die in mysterious ways.

GravatarAnswering my own question, here are Skelton's major campaign contributors...

The top three are Boeing, Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin. General Dynamics is #8. Military contactor galore.'

Dude , your wrists of lightening have me in awe, since I'm floundering around looking for campaign donations sites and getting sidetracked by other horrid revelations
( ...fuckin Patrick McHenry, little prick ) ...
Nicely found and so ,Mr. Skeleton is the first man out of the barn on 'Our' side ,championing using up some of that Huge stockpile of weapons they just have to use up (and for which He Gets Paid ...huh, weird...)
Thanks Richard, I think he's stinky as hell in this , reagardless of Aipac ATM access or not .

I thinks we keeps our eyes on him for the next few rounds.

GravatarY'know, I know the tumbling "radiation" symbol while you burned a CD in iTunes was cheesey -- but I loved it.

GravatarTerry C, thanks for re-posting "Peace Train".

I didn't try to catch up on all the comments, so pardon me if this has already been said. I thought about how much Michael Moore pissed off the warmongers by including some gentle footage of Iraq before the invasion in "Fahrenheit 9/11".

The myth, the social fantasy of warmongery, requires the enemy to be maximally demonized and rendered unsympathetic. Without such anasthesia, how can a populace generate the necessary support and goodwill for the carnage to come? So Moore's plain images of Iraqi citizens behaving like families and enjoying good times infuriated the wingnuts and reactionary elements.

They resorted to their familiar projection in attacking the unconscionable and taboo images by sneering that Moore was trying to fool everybody into thinking that Saddam's Iraq was a pleasant, delightful place to live-- no better than pro-Saddam propaganda, in their eyes. They'll say the same things about Iran.

GravatarThe acendancy of women in politics, OTOH, just scares the crap outa the Good Ol'Boyz.

Game over, Control Freaks...

GravatarYour eyes changed from Brown to green to gold? Cool. I started out with blue but now they are emerald green. Not sure if they will change in the future. It is interesting though.

Well, given that my complexion and colouring is fairly dark as well, there are some suspicions about my origins regarding that little issue, but I seldom bring it up in mixed company....
