Gravatari don't recall exactly where, but yestiddy i read a report on mAnn that proclaimed that she's regarded as the paragon of youthful wingnut douchebaggery...

she's not an outlier, she's the voice of flying-monkey orthodoxy...
./

GravatarWhat she embodies is the standards of the "liberal media," where conservatives are called back again and again, and literally nothing they say can have any negative impact on their careers. And that's what bothers us.

Yea, but.... we curse more.

GravatarI wrote Nagourney about this, and this is the response I got this morning:

"I was not there when it happened, having left the room to write a deadline story about the presidential candidates, which was what I had gone there to cover. Heard about it much later; will figure out what to do about it this morning. Thanks for writing."

"Since the mass firings were carried out three months ago, Justice Department officials have consistently portrayed them as personnel decisions based on the prosecutors' "performance-related" problems. But, Friday, officials revealed the White House's role in the matter and acknowledged that the ousters were based primarily on the administration's unhappiness with the prosecutors' policy decisions.

"At the end of the day, this was a decision to pick the prosecutors we felt would most effectively carry out the department's policies and priorities in the last two years," said Justice Department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.'

GravatarThat is, in fact, why the like her. But she doesn't bother us at all. I don't care what Ann Coulter says about anything.

Um, then, why do you post about her so much?

Not trying to be snarky, but if she is indeed not worth caring about, then why does her name show up here so often?

GravatarThe NBA has a lot more integrity than NBC.

In America, the NBA is serious shit. Y'know, sports. Where all depends on truthful things - who had the high score, who fouled, etc. Accuracy is required, demanded, choose your verb.

NBC is just another TV net selling ads. Who cares about the truth of their informing the American public?

And the fact that America is this way is a thing of despair. Though it does explain why the few journos occasionally trying to do journalism seem to be ex-sports reporters.....

GravatarThe NBA has a lot more integrity than NBC.

GravatarI'm not sure you could accurately say the article was about CPAC and Coulter since she is barely mentioned in the story.

Gravatar"I was not there when it happened, having left the room to write a deadline story about the presidential candidates, which was what I had gone there to cover. Heard about it much later; will figure out what to do about it this morning. Thanks for writing."

Excerpted from GHW Bush's diary, entry entitled "What I Did While Others Discussed Selling Arms to Iran to Fund the Contras".

GravatarCoulter's remarks are just ratcheted up from what the Cheney gang used to say about Edwards. Remember when they were calling him "the Breck girl"?

GravatarNo, that was his response. And he didn not talk about what she said in the article, just that there was a line waiting for her. I give him a pass on this one.

GravatarI was not there when it happened, having left the room to write a deadline story about the presidential candidates, which was what I had gone there to cover.

Which, okay, but if you then later wrote about Coulter, wouldn't you, you know, make sure you hadn't missed anything significant?

Speaking of, an interesting incident, to remind us all that homophobic violence is really never very far away:

The nation's two largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights organizations Friday demanded that charges be dropped against Nadine Smith, the executive director of Equality Florida.

Smith was arrested this week during a heated hearing at the Largo City Commission in Florida over the firing of its city manager, Steve Stanton, who had announced plans to begin transitioning as a transsexual.

Smith was in the lobby and arrested when a man approached her and asked for a flier she has holding that said "Don't Discriminate".

According to witnesses, Sgt. Butch Ward confronted Smith and ordered her to take back the flier.

When Smith asked why, Ward reportedly forced her into a side room where several officers violently shoved her to the floor and arrested her.

She has been charged with resisting arrest with violence, a felony, and disturbing others’ assembly, a misdemeanor.

GravatarOoh, bathing kimchi would be good. Snuggling, too. I'm tired of ambivalent kimchi, though.

GravatarI liked Dana Milbanks description which didn't include the "f-word", but it did have this little nugget from James Inhofe:

"I have been called -- my kids are all aware of this -- dumb, crazy man, science abuser, Holocaust denier, villain of the month, hate-filled, warmonger, Neanderthal, Genghis Khan and Attila the Hun," he announced. "And I can just tell you that I wear some of those titles proudly."

So miriam was feted wildly, and her friend, the actual relative, was relatively dissed.

Gravatarthat is precisely the BS cloak she swathes about her:
"Oh, but OBVIOUSLY I JEST"
Fuck you mAnn

I see you ignored the rest of the post.

Jimmy Carter has been smeared constantly by the right-wing blogs since he published Peace not Apartheid.

No mention. Why not? Is it that it doesn't have the right entertainment value? Is he too risky to defend?

On the other hand, as soon as a no risk fight comes along, a no risk fight that uses Coulter's grotesque celebrity to polarize both sides into mutually hostile, mutually profiting extremes, then, well, go for it.

What happens is that the debate is turned into a professional wrestling match. It's stripped of any substance. Nobody talks about the war. Nobody talks about impeachment. Nobody talks about the Patriot or Military Commissions Act.

It's all about those grotesques on the right. And who benefits? Well in the short run both the left and right blogs benefit because they both get lots of suckers to click on their sites and keep the ad revenue coming in.

But in the long run, politicians without substance (like Hillary Clinton, Obama, Guiliani) benefit. In a few months it's going to be all "the media is being mean to Hillary" all the time. She won't have to take a position on anything.

Your complicit in what you criticize. You help scum like Coulter turn American politics into a freak show.

GravatarAll right!
The Ratter has arrived and removed the immediate offense, and will return to deal with the attic issue later this morning.

GravatarQOTD: "The NBA has a lot more integrity than NBC."

GravatarNagourney was so offended by one sentence in a private e-mail i sent him that he ran to Daniel Okrent to complain, and Okrent wrote about it and called me a coward for it in the NYT ... for what i said in a private e-mail (although Okrent later was forced to apologize for it).

But when Coulter calls a leading presidential candidate "Faggot" on stage at an important political conference attended by other presidential candidates and thousands of attendees, does Nagourney leap to action and report it in his story? Nope.

The conference drew thousands of attendees, many of whom waited in a long line out the door for a late-afternoon appearance by Ann Coulter, the conservative author and commentator.

So, if you're a private citizen and you say something accurate, but offensive to a NYT reporter in a private e-mail, the NYT will report it and its public editor will publicly call you a 'coward' for it.

But if you belong to the conservative noise machine and are close to GOP insiders, the NYT and Nagourney are fine with you calling a leading presdiential candidate "Faggot" in front of millions on TV, and will faltly and conspicuously refuse to report it, presumably it in order not to humiliate their patrons..

GravatarFuck the networks.

That's all I got on this.

GravatarMy post on NYT weblog. I thought it should be posted somewhere.

"The liberal media is finally starting to lay off Romney and I hope that people will finally be able to hear what he is all about."

The "liberal media" has layed off of Anne Coulter too. Even after she says things like this: "I would comment on John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot.’" http://www.crooksandliars.com/20...aggot%e2%80%99/

She is a major spokesman for the Conservative Wing of the Republican party and the 'liberal media' always support her hate filled remarks like this.

ThinkProgess has a list of times Anne has used Homophobic terms: "Previously, Coulter has put “even money” on Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) “[c]oming out of the closet,” said Bill Clinton shows “some level of latent homosexuality,” and called Vice President Al Gore a “total fag.”"

The 'liberal media' has been giving this hate filled spokesman for Conservative Republican's a big pass for many years now.

We can only " hope that people will finally be able to hear what (she) is all about."

But like Mr. Bush says 'that will be for historians to tell'.

GravatarI don't even read the New York Times anymore. The newspaper of Judith Miller and Ad Nags, among other deplorable excuses for journalists, does not deserve my attention.

GravatarSo, you are willing to trade a latent Carter smear for the mAnn rapture of the CPAC audience on her repulsive dismissal of an actively declared presidential nominee contender?

Go for it.

I promise I will pay more attention to the RWM'osphere.

GravatarIs Coulter's role to snatch attention from the issues?

You have made a point, a good one.

Rather than moan about media content of which we have little control, let's revisit FCC accomodation of consoldiated control and be done with the dilution of the fourth estate.

We keep Coulter in the news but tag her filth with our labels, our values and our repudiation. I don't see that there is anything wrong with that.

GravatarThe NBA has a lot more integrity than NBC.
If the NBA's parent company ever relied on selling jet engines to the military then that would change.

GravatarCoulter's role is to find herself some snatch.

Gravatar"Ann" Coulter still has a job? What work is there for a "Constitutional scholar" since Bush/Cheney suspended it?

Gravatarcoulter has done more to make the average 'Murkan suspicious of, and uncomfortable with conservatives than all the finger pointing by lefties could ever acheive. The more regressives adore her, from their politicos, to media stars, to their religious fanatics, the better it is for the rest of us.
.

GravatarDid everybody else notice that he somehow wrote a column about Republicans running for second place in the 08 election and didn't use the word Bush one time? Somehow he got a criticism of Clinton in though, even though the guy he quoted didn't "name names".

Gravatar This is the NY Times blog and you can, if you feel like it, make comments....

but don't quote Ann. because, if you do, they won't print your comment. because they find the word "faggot" offensive (even in quotes!) when you write to complain that they didn't cover the fact that a mainstream conservative spokesperson the word they find so offensive to describe a democratic candidate.

it's beyond orwellian.

GravatarThere is an entertainment level to politics Americana but as the populace has gotten more apathetic to actually paying attention to what actually goes on the shouters and the bellowers or in Tucked case squeakers have arisen on one side to drown out any chance of reasonable debate. The progressives are seeing the window rattling of the 1960's thrown back at them, a complacent and complicent mainstream Democratic Party gurgled haplessly while the MSM went from hard news to accounts of how long sad examples of too much too soon can cover up the fact that they participated in the current decline. It's says a lot that a hustler like Rev.Al Sharpton comes across as a paradigm of reasoned discourse while the William Downthejues, Old Pat Bucckethads, and rightwing Pharisees get airtime all the time to spew on about subjects they know little about but can really really shout against it.

GravatarThe madness in a nutshell --

But if you belong to the conservative noise machine and are close to GOP insiders, the NYT and Nagourney are fine with you calling a leading presdiential candidate "Faggot" in front of millions on TV, and will faltly and conspicuously refuse to report it, presumably it in order not to humiliate their patrons..

and

but don't quote Ann. because, if you do, they won't print your comment. because they find the word "faggot" offensive (even in quotes!) when you write to complain that they didn't cover the fact that a mainstream conservative spokesperson the word they find so offensive to describe a democratic candidate.

This is no surprise and yet I can't quite get my head around it. A famous conservative, who was invited tp speak in front of other famous conservatives, at a conference ballyhooed as important by conservatives and all but one of the Republicans running for president were or had been in attendence ...but it's not worth covering.

But e-mail remarks and blog comments are worth raising a stink over.

I guess Time magazine had it right. Famous people shouldn't be covered in this new world - the average Joe is king. Well, when it's time for criticism, anyway. Whew..got it.

And it's beside the point that Coulter is a joke to sane people. They take her seriously which says something about them. It isn't that complex.

I know..maybe if Ward Churchill called someone a faggot, the Times (Malkin, Instaknothead, etc.) could whine abut it for months. Whatta world.
