You say that will show your support for the troops, but we think it will show your support for the oil companies and the military contractors who contribute to your campaign, while our troops continue to die.
We the liberal Democrat majority will no longer be taken for granted by the corporate conservative minority of big money Democrats who have taken over our former party of the people. This message is your notice that millions of us will be defecting to the Green Party as of today.

The recently fired Secretary of the Army Francis Harvey--the epitome of who the Bushies believe is the best and brightest to head up an organization--A CORPORATIST.
The majority of Harvey's career has been spent with corporations that provided products and services to the federal government, particularly the United States Department of Defense, and included a year of government service. He was formerly CEO of the IT Group, a defense contractor. He has been involved in over 20 major defense programs across the entire spectrum from undersea to outer space, including tanks, missiles, submarines, surface ships, aircraft and satellites. In addition, he was a member of the Army Science Board in the late 1990s, traveling to numerous U.S. Army installations, and participated in early studies that helped define the Future Combat System. Harvey also served for one year as a White House Fellow and assistant in the immediate office of the Secretary of Defense, Harold Brown, in the late 1970s.

I just read that. Joe3 is the junior high kid stuck in externalism. All of his problems to him are caused by something outside of his own behavior and opinions. Always.
Can't do anything for externalizers until they understand that they suffer from a basic perception issue. Externalizing children are the most difficult kids to help because in their mind, they are always correct. When reality disagrees, they still think they are correct and they think they are just misunderstood.

A relentlessly centrist mainstream extremist like Joe Klein believes not some but all of the following:
--That leftists are a force for ill in the country and the world
-- That liberals who say stupid things speak for liberalism whereas conservatives who say stupid things speak only for themselves
-- That the War in Iraq had nothing to do with imperialism
-- that people like Joe Lieberman who push conventional beltway thinking are courageous
-- that all anger except his own is bad
-- that pols who argee with him are well-intentioned whereas those who disagree with him act with malice
--- that there's nothing braver than telling the base what it doesn't want to hear even if what is said is conventional corporate-approved blather
-- that to point out the problems with capitalism is to be a Marxist
-- that his lack of getting laid in the sixities means the entire era was bad
-- that his self-loathing isn't painfully apparent to everyone.

I think corporations are basically amoral, rather than evil, but that's a distinction without a difference since the consequences of their amorality are so frequently evil.
This is true, fundamentally. In fact, corporations are legally required to be amoral, and are legally deemed persons.
A lovely combination.

"not all of these will apply to every left wing extremist"
Hmm. At least to me, if you parse this out, it seems to say that the position of "left wing extremist" pre-exists the fitting Klein's conditions - that there is no minimum number of his conditions one MUST have to be a "left-wing extremist.
Or, in other words, "left-wing extremist" means simply "Someone Joe Klein doesn't like", and the conditions are then retroactively fitted.

“Every product has a lifespan and this one has run its course.”
I thought this was an everlasting feeling of patriotism. Not a commercial product with a limited lifespan.
SteveLG, I think that's right, amoral rather than evil--most leftists I know don't believe in evil--
and like states, corporations' only purpose is to increase their own power.
A guy Klein doesn't think power corrupts, though of course he's a small embodiment of that truism.

Fallout Over Coulter’s Anti-Gay Remark
By Adam Nagourney
There’s some big fallout from the meeting in Washington of the Conservative Political Action Conference, three days of conferencing, caucusing, presidential addressing and book-hawking. These conferences have historically been known for displaying what its own organizers would describe as over-the-top behavior, and one of the regular speakers – Ann Coulter – offered an example of it when she used an anti-gay epithet on Friday to describe John Edwards, the former senator from North Carolina and Democratic presidential contender. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/

david--I think of evil as a theological construct; therefore I agree with you. Amoral, corrupt, sociopathic--those are terms I'll buy. But evil to me smacks of less than rational judgment. Just a pet peeve of mine.
One of my many, many odd thoughts.....
i used to think that a Satan, a true embodyment of Evil, would have to be super-intelligent. Don't we say things like "diabolically cunning"? And so any Antichrist, his earthly personification, would have to be brilliant and successful.
But if you accept the Satan thing, you have to consider that Satan rebelled against Someone infinitely more powerful and knowing than himself. Two seconds thought wopuld tell Scratch what the outcome would be, yet he rebelled anyway, and was apparently surprised at the result.
So, if an Antichrist took after 'Dad' , he'd be more likely to be stubborn, and stupid, and comitted to emotional actions without thought of the consequences. And eternally surprised when they blew up in his face. His successes would be dumb luck and the enablement of sheer power.
i'm starting to give some religions more credence than before.......

"Libby Jury Leaves a Clue as It Heads Into Recess

By NEIL A. LEWIS
Published: March 3, 2007
WASHINGTON, March 2 — The jury deliberating the perjury and obstruction of justice case against I. Lewis Libby Jr. recessed for the weekend on Friday without reaching a verdict, but not before leaving an intriguing clue as to the state of deliberations.
Times Topics: Libby Case »
Text: Libby Trial ExhibitsThe jurors sent a note with a question to Judge Reggie B. Walton, who is expected to respond on Monday when deliberations resume. In the note, the jurors asked for further explanation of the concept of reasonable doubt, suggesting possible uncertainty or even disagreement over the core standard by which they are to measure the evidence and testimony about Mr. Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney."

Well, no, nobody's surprised. That's what makes Romney's behavior all the more outrageous. If you choose to affiliate yourself with a respectable politicial pundit, and then that pundit goes on and does something crazy and out-of-character, I think you can reasonably say you couldn't have predicted that and it has nothing to do with you. Coulter, though, is well-known for this crap. But Romney decided to embrace it anyway.
