Karin,
Here is what I wrote last night about our snow, "A million stars grace our night sky. The snow is gone now but the grass is cursed with snow mold and the dying ramparts of winter remain, edging the driveways and walkways with blackend, hardend snow.
The detritus of winter's tree-trimming remains nearly everywhere - pine cones scattered, dried and frozen oak leaves, and bundles of sticks lying about waiting to be collected - disturb the matted grass.
The wind's wisp can still be felt as the temperatures dip into the teens."

I did this yesterday after arriving home. I am not sure what to think of it: but little brother got it the point: spot on. Maybe you will as well.
A young man from a small town north of here graduated from high school two years ago. Finding his prospects for employment limited and his interest and finances for college nonexistent, he joined the Marine Corps. Having been a strong member of his local football team - a team that excelled in the state tournament having made it all the way to the championship game - he was a fine, strong young man who had always made his parents, teachers and coaches proud.
Though there was a danger in joining the Marines, the young man was proud of his country. He was patriotic and wanted to fight for those principles he had been taught. After all, it was his country’s honor that had been attacked and if he were called upon to defend her, he certainly would do his best. So he went to war.
Two weeks ago he came home. Covered with a flag, the town welcomed him home with a parade and much love. The same people who nurtured him as a young man now mourned. His teachers, parents, coaches, friends, and most off all his teammates praised him. The picture in the Muskegon Chronicle said it all: at the front of the sanctuary of the local church, his teammates were lined up wearing their jerseys over their Sunday-best suits. Each number emblazoned in full color to ward off the evil spirits that had claimed one of their own.
This image has invaded my mind and it dances there provocatively. How perfectly pathetic it appears. As if the “team” could somehow fight the lies that sent this boy to die. As if their friendship could somehow make up for the continued deceptions being played out daily. Yet, there they are: standing strong as if this were one more game when they could hold hands in the huddle and beat the enemy.
But who is the enemy?
And the young man is buried. His mamma cries. His daddy’s tears are shed late at night when he realizes that losing a son is the second hardest thing in this world. And as the realization that needlessly losing a son for a lie encompasses him . . . .

Did you see that a military jury convicted that murderous fucker who set up a multiple murder of Iraqi civilians in Iraq???
Soldier convicted in death of 3 Iraqis
March 17, 2007
Kentucky FORT CAMPBELL -- A military panel found a 101st Airborne soldier guilty of three counts of negligent homicide but not guilty of premeditated murder in the deaths of three Iraqi detainees. Staff Sergeant Ray Girouard, 24, smiled as he hugged his lawyer and relatives after the verdict. He faced up to life in prison had he been found guilty of premeditated murder. The panel also found Girouard guilty of obstruction of justice for lying to investigators and of conspiracy for trying to conceal the crime. (AP)
there is NO chance that any murderous USer trooper will ever actually face justice for deeds done to Iraqis in Iraq...

Our family is half Irish, half Italian. All the women married Irish boys, and all my male cousins married Irish girls--one right from County Cork. Their names reflect their Italo/Hibernian heritage.
And they're all beautiful.
My nephew, Kevin Callahan, is 1/2 Sicilian, but more Irish looking than Patrick Fitzgerald.
Of course, this is not unusual here in Boston.

Well, GWPDA, my friend went and got her one, and even "sponsored" a couple of others at the pund so other people can get them without paying for the shots, etc. The only problem-- not for me, but for others-- is that they aren't papered. My friend thinks that the ones in the pounds are probably a toller/lab mix, but that might actually be a good thing cuz the tollers around Yarmouth a bit in-bred.

Strange isn't it that a full day after Valerie Plame's appearance before Congress, no one in the media is asking, "Why isn't Cheneychins being indicted for treason?"
Or do I misunderstand the meaning of "outing a covert CIA agent and endangering her spy networks?"
IF that isn't betrayal of your country, what is?

Lime Rickey |
03.17.07 - 9:30 am | #
AP and the NYT today once again making great strides in destroying their credibility by burying and then dismissing Plame's testimony:
Plame Sheds Little Light in Leak Case
"Plame repeatedly described herself as a covert operative, a term that has multiple meanings. Plame said she worked undercover and traveled abroad on secret missions for the CIA.
But the word ''covert'' also has a legal definition requiring recent foreign service by the person and active efforts to keep his or her identity secret."
"Plame's testimony on the covert nature of her job was buttressed by a statement that Waxman read at the hearing's opening which, he said, was approved by Gen. Michael V. Hayden, the CIA's director. The statement said that Plame worked in a covert capacity at the time of Novak's column and that her employment status was classified under an executive order."
I knew that the straw that would take me away from blogging/reading/watching/thinking was going to show up one day...WELL, it's the fallout from Valerie Wilson's testimony yesterday that is making me want to "tear my hair out"! Someone explain to me WHY if she was "under oath" and said that she had been "out of the country" doing her job in the past 5 years (and if that is one of VICKY'S ongoing reasons for one's being "covert") isn't she to be believed as a "covert/classified/undercover" agent????? Will some BRILLIANT Repug then have her indicted for LYING UNDER OATH!!!! Not to mention watching Bill Maher last night and noticing that no one on his panel (two were journalists) even got to the "KEY" (as they kept saying) of the removal of the federal attorneys...that being, IMHO, that those who would replace them would NOT have to be confirmed by the Congress! HELLO...that's the part of the story that SHOULD mean SOMETHING!!!! We just go round and round in circles...
