Gravatarhaaaaa

GravatarYes, that kind of thinking is everywhere. Does Obama have a truth squad of some sort, volunteers who watch for this crap and respond? If so, they're not doing a very good job. They should be shoving their fists down the throat of any newspaper that publishes that crap.

GravatarA fundamental question will be how this stuff is mainstreamed by the "respectable" press.

Primarily by printing letters to the editor by crackpots.

GravatarThe NYT today talks about how he didn't put his hand over his heart when singing the national anthem. I thought that was for the pledge. Anyway, it's rediculous.

GravatarYeah, the racist dreck is going to get really thick.

The "Muslim" angle will be played up, of course, as a way to deflect the real problem: he's a darkie.

GravatarThat Darned Cat!

Just chased L.E. off the helmet... he wanted to help remove the decal front, prematurely.
.

GravatarA fundamental question will be how this stuff is mainstreamed by the "respectable" press.

In a whole series of Nedra-esque articles with the lead in "Some people are concerned by" or "Some people have speculated" or "Right wing internet speculation has centered on."

Followed by a parenthetical mention, near the end of the article, that Obama "claims" not to be, nor ever to have been, Muslim.

GravatarLet'd not forget that they will accuse him of running a cult--I have a post on my Sun Myung Moon blog about this: http://realsunmyungmoon.blogspot...lt-in- past.html

GravatarI do the hand over the heart (or the baseball cap over the heart at the ballpark) thing, but then again I was in the military for years and that sort of thing becomes second nature.

I also get pissed off by poor flag etiquette, which seems to go hand in hand with mindless flagwaving of the GOP variety.

GravatarAl Sharpton on Cspan, 'Malcom X used to say if a man has a knife 6 inches in your back and takes 4 inches out you still have 2 inches of knife in your back.'

GravatarThe mainstream press will do as their corporate masters command; that is, tear down Obama by any means available to prop up the approved corporate candidate, which at this point appears to be a lying sack of shit named McBush.

GravatarAnd the respectable press would be...

Gravatar“Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Peal Jam have contributed tunes to the anti-war soundtrack for a documentary about a U.S. soldier paralyzed in Iraq. The 30-song, two-disc album ‘Body of War: Songs That Inspired an Iraq War Veteran’ will be released March 18 via Warner Music’s Sire Records label. All proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit Iraq Veterans Against the War.”

War. Huh! Good God, y'all, what is it good for?

GravatarJeffraham Prestonian on haloscan't, "If jack fell into a cauldron of molten lava, the planet would have a new holiday."

GravatarBarak Obama is an admitted islam.

GravatarThis is what google news find for Obama muslim.

GravatarDavid Frum was speaking fondly of the Spanish Inquisition on Maher last night. Maybe they can water board Obama and get him to confess to being a Muslim.

The irony of a Jew advocating water boarding is just astonishing.

GravatarObama is a Manchurian Republican candidate.

Whereas Hillary is a stealth Republican and her good friend McCain is a faux Republican.

When things get tough, and they will, Obama will let his right-leaning side rule.

He will be, as they say, induced to do so.

9/11's happen.

GravatarFunny when they talk about a Manchurian candidate, only one candidate in the race has ever been a POW.

GravatarThe real question is whether the local comments boards -- and our local fishwrap is a case in point-- are dominated by cranky gobshites who mainline Limbaugh and have too much time on their hands, or subject to concerted trolling.

My guess is that it's a mixture of both. Trouble is, when you have aggressive bastards who talk endlessly about the need for shoot-to-kill policies towards blacks, browns, gays, hippies and out-of-towners (I do not exaggerate with reference to my local rag) it really takes time, effort and asbestos skin to call them out.

GravatarI was actually reading some of those threads today in ours. They're pretty spectacularly dumb.

GravatarFunny when they talk about a Manchurian candidate, only one candidate in the race has ever been a POW.

The ironic thing is he appears to have been brainwashed into believing that torture is effective at extracting information from the victim.

We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say.
Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

/Grandpa Simspon troll

GravatarIn some ways that's what is going on in the Israel-Palestine fights, too: lack of water and lack of good arable land for the numbers that are there.

These may not be the main reasons wars happen, but when you look at history you will find the scarcity aspect in many wars.

Scarcity is a useful context in which corrupt leaders can turn populations against each other. The U.S. uses employment statistics to focus people's anger on other people, not failed government policy.

GravatarGoody Obama made my crops whither!

i'm still waiting for mike isikoff to show up on msnbc. he had a major piece of this in newsweek yesterday; curious that tweets didn't have him on, esp as in the past isikoff has been a favored guest esp when he's got a scoop.

GravatarCase in point: we have a really sad case here: two brothers, maybe fighting, maybe just roughhousing. One ends up dead. The other brother conceals this for three days until the school calls DSS, who calls the family, and they find him.

The letters are all about how lame DSS is, how they should have broken down the door to the home, etc. No indication that they know the law or the facts of the case.

I also have a bad feeling that my cousin may have been the CPS caseworker, though I haven't asked her.

I am Malcolm X!

Does Obama distrust the lighter-skinned, more "European"-looking Israelis and tend to favor the "darker complexioned" Palestinians and other Arabs (al Qaeada? [sic]) because his Muslim African father and cousins?

GravatarObama patriotism find this:

I might not vote for Obama; I will not vote for McCain. There are some things more important than the economy, and free speech is among them. Yes, I don’t like Obama’s stance on the Second Amendment, but the difference is, the president has little wiggle room right now on the second, while McCain might do serious further damage to the first, or the fourth. I dislike the steps Obama is willing to take in order to achieve his goals of economic equality. But these are as nothing to the notion that citizens have to be protected from information because Big Daddy John thinks we’ll get bad ideas in our heads.

Gravatarmy cousin, who works nascar for altria (tobacco) and is very naive but very pro-Isarael, sent an email to the rest of us about OB this week.
It was supposed to be a sermon by a named FL rabbi -- he/she wasnt named -- repeating much of the soft slurs about OB, including that he was raised muslim and his minister is an anti-semite.
the political part of the family jumped all over it....and she said she was glad to hear it wasnt true.
But the darkside is really fishing to pollute the atmosphere.

laugh at these people. mock them. remind the Independent voters that this GOP Freak Show is why we have had 8 years of President Chimpy.

"laughing at you" repeated forecfully by surrogates, is an effective tactic. makes the accuser seem like a tinfoil hat wearing slimeball, and the candidate looks like he takes it seriously only to the extent that he feels sorrow for the extent of his opponents delusions.

The one making the rounds is that McBush can't be elected because he was born in Panama (on a US military base in the Canal Zone), even though both his parents were American citizens (dad a naval officer) and according to a law passed in 1790 (for the love of Pete) he's "natural born" as a result.

GravatarAtrios, I wrote about this back in January, when I drove some senior citizens to the polls for early voting. These voters were all ardent Democrats, but one lady told me she was scared of "that Muslim, that Obama," and argued with me when I told her he was NOT a muslim.

I told her it's a right-wing lie, just like they lied about John Kerry with the Swift Boat Veterans. I'm not sure she believed me, but I could tell that got her thinking.

I just don't get how this lie has become so prevalent in the minds of your average American voters, except to say that repetition tends to make people think things are true. Before you know it, it's "common knowledge." And we've had community newspapers in the heartland repeating the lies in that e-mail, too.

I think the Obama campaign is remiss in not addressing this more forcefully, but what do I know.

Yes, you have rational objections. If you spend some time at TalkLeft, for example, you will see something else entirely: a number of comments from people who insist that they will support McCain over Obama or who repeat Republican manchurian candidate stories with a slight spin.

It's totally understandable that people support one candidate or another, even vehemently - God knows, I am in no position to object to vehemence. But that's not what you see e.g. on Taylor Marsh comments.

GravatarMegan McGargle: I've never had much of a gift for picking out who would be well trusted with power; having voted for Bush in 2004, I'm unwilling to trust my judgement again.

Actually, technically, it was a bit more complicated than that.
