GravatarHalloo!

Gravatari'm wiff ya.

GravatarYip!

GravatarI think it takes forever for the main page to load.

GravatarHe's a perv. No question.

GravatarThat "AdJuggler" thing really slows the page loading, but maybe Atrios gets more money.

Gravatarthe repeated use of the word "dying" here is of course a reference to "older whites". this is language that is often used by the left, who believe "older white" voters are not sufficiently enthusiastic about racial extinction. but then they turn around and complain that these same voters worry about such things as death panels.

GravatarBart. Stupak.

Huh.

GravatarGood idea. Thanks for this Atrios.

Watching them on CSpan last night was difficult.

GravatarPhil Gingrey is an ass.

Just thought you might wanna know.

GravatarWell, I wasn't speaking for you young'uns.

GravatarI think any insurance executive with have a brain will come up with a way to offer a plan which bundles an exchange-offered "wingnut friendly" policy with a supplemental "reality based" policy to cover things that make the Baby Jesus cry. Stupak's ridiculous amendment is likely to be of no practical value.

GravatarI find the whole concept of "racial extinction" terribly amusing.

Save for the very minor differences of skin color and eye shape, we are really only one race. Pretty much all of us descended from a group that left Africa and essentially colonized the world.

Equally amusing is the concept of "racial purity".

The Noah Familyconsists of fourteen human descendants of Noah who have inherited his genes. It was originally believed that they were the descendants of a single individual known as "Noah", but it is later revealed that there was originally a clan of 12 members. The Noah clan claim to be the original ancestors of all humans after the Great Flood, and that all humans possess "Noah genes." .

Gravatarcolour me not surprised - CAIRO: An audit report of USAID democracy and governance programs in Egypt has criticized the Egyptian government for being an impediment to these efforts as well as citing concerns that programs might inadvertently fund terrorism.

The Office of Inspector General at the US Agency for International Development released the “Audit of USAID/Egypt’s Democracy and Governance Activities” Oct. 27 and stated that only half of the program’s goals were achieved since 2004.

The main reason for the low success rate was the Egyptian government, according to the report.

“The Government of Egypt signed a bilateral agreement to support democracy and governance activities, but it has shown reluctance to support many of USAID’s democracy and governance programs and has impeded implementers’ activities,” said the report.

GravatarCAIRO: As Egypt geared for pop diva Beyonce Knowles' first performance in North Africa on Friday, Muslim conservatives were branding her show an "insolent sex party" that threatens the Muslim nation's "social peace and stability."

On giant posters plastered across the Egyptian capital advertising the concert, Beyonce sports a revealing, flame-covered outfit and grips a set of motorcycle handlebars extending from her hips — a contrast to Cairo streets, where most women wear the traditional Muslim headscarves.

TV ads promoting the show, part of Beyonce's "I Am ..." world tour, have run on Egyptian and Arab satellite stations. The tour, which also took Beyonce to the United Arab Emirates last week, had grossed $53.5 million as of October, according to Billboard magazine.

But in Egypt, Mulsim lawmakers and their supporters have waged campaigns on social networking websites, accusing the government of encouraging debauchery and calling for the concert's cancellation.

In the Netherlands, abortions are covered by the ABWZ, which is for "long-term and extraordinary heathcare". It's funded by a payroll tax, which is then distributed to the insurance funds to implement.

The Dutch have one of the lowest abortion rates in Europe (out of those non-theocratic countries where abortion is legal).

Elsewhere on FDL, Jane Hamsher makes the point that we've known for a while: the DC higher-ups in Planned Parenthood and NARAL don't give a shit about defending their principles.

I know -- I've just never seen any point in a printer. If I need something printed (rare!), I can ship it to Staples or Walgreens (depending on what it is) over the 'tubes, and never have to fuck with expensive printer cartridges and types of paper, etc.

GravatarGummo, Monsieur's Infinity Towers, purchased in 1976, are still fully functional and deliver nice sound quality.  You might not enjoy them if you like a lot of bass, but higher frequencies are very good.

GravatarMoe

You meant Mario Lemieux and Sidney, didn't you?

GravatarOh please, we've been without an amplifier for our stereo for 2 weeks now.

how do you live like that?

Gravatarvery happy here with a brother printer for about $100 and it is wireless.

that makes everyone smile.
no more shuffling off to the printer with a pile of print jobs stored in the laptop.

ordered one day, came the next with free shipping.

now if the HCR were that easy....I could cancel all my phone banks.

Gravatar plantsman, mad google skillz : My printer died, and I don't know when I can replace it; but it pisses me off that cheap printers come without a USB 2.0 cable that must cost next-to-nothing in quantity.

FYI - If you don't have a local dollar store (ours has USB cable all the time), Amazon.com has them dirt-cheap - like .50 each. Less than $5 with the mail shipping for any length you need.

No, we do have some ongoing need for a printer; and the cartridges for this one are less than half the price of the ones for the old Lexmark.

Gravatar"Eighty-five percent of us are happy with our health care"?!
pseudonymous in nc | 11.07.09 - 12:56 pm | #

nonsense, but there is nothing in the HCR proposals to make anybody happier about their health insurance. the only ones that will be happier will be the insurers when they see their profits go up.

HCR, and more generally this administration, is a sham.

Gravatari love my laptop!

GravatarI haven't heard a single Rethug get up & start speaking without immediately lying.

I'm not talking opinions; I'm talking out-and-out factual lies.

There really should be a rule.
Gummo | 11.07.09 - 12:51 pm | #

It would also be nice if the so-called news people on our teevees actually mentioned that they were lying from time to time.

GravatarAnd the nice thang about Walgreens photo service: I can send the photos to be printed in any of their stores, anywhere. So sharing w/family and friends gets even easier.

GravatarThe HP 4680 is the one I'm looking at, and I may have a USB 2.0 cable around here someplace.

GravatarI like my Lexmark.

GravatarI don't think Pete Sessions could hold a job anywhere else.

GravatarMy Apple Laser Writer was used when I got it.

My only gripe is that OS X and the Mac I'm using no longer supports the Apple Serial Port.

So, all my printing needs are handled by my Mac OS 9 machine.

When I need to print color pictures, I have a flash drive and it's off to Walgreen's on Boylston Street.

GravatarI am not happy at all with the establishment of religion through the expansion of the Hyde Amendment to HCR.

Who died and made fundamentalism the law of the land?

But my wise daughter says abortion services will still be available through planned parenthood, etc., and it is not a reason to kill the bill.
"It is wrong, dad, but we need a public option more."

Gravatarhow do you live like that?
SKY

It kinda sucks. But we have a (very) small box in the kitchen for when cooking or washing dishes; that and the computer speakers are it for now.

I have my eye on a relatively inexpensive old-fashioned stereo Onkyo receiver at B&H (have no need for 5 channels or 7 channels or a thousand channels), but that'll have to wait a week or two.

i don't care if it is left or right. access to quality health care is a concern to anyone. american health care sucks, and none of the reasons why are being addressed in this pathetic HCR effort.

Fundamentalism as the "law of the land" is UNCONSITUTIONAL.

Could one of the lawyers out there please explain to me why this isn't ever argued in front of the SCOTUS?

GravatarI have a huge need for printers, as we are severely limited at work by budget constraints as to how many copies we can print.  The Brother we have is good for doing massive printouts.

GravatarI loved my ColorStyleWriter 2400 at the time, but I'm deep into Snow Leopard now.

GravatarThe HP 4680 is the one I'm looking at, and I may have a USB 2.0 cable around here someplace.

Well my experience of the machine is all of about 3 hours old, but so far I'm very pleased!

GravatarI'm happy with my Canon printer. Quiet and fast.

GravatarI knew a lady who was in her late 50s before she got up to speed on the 'tubes, and she had a habit of printing out every webpage she thought was interesting.

[slaps forehead]

GravatarBut let’s be clear about this. The only reason that we are in the position where the price of passing health care reform is allowing even liberal Marcy Kaptur to sneeringly dismiss choice activists as narrow class warriors who don’t care about working women is because Planned Parenthood and NARAL have allowed it to happen

GravatarWe have an HP 5800 that's still going strong.  It's not as good for doing large scale printing like the Brother is, but it does pretty well for other things.  We also have an Epson dedicated photo printer, and it's very nice.

GravatarTotally agree that privatizing abortion funding would delegitimize the procedure. It's a shitty trade to have to make. But the fight won't go away, and it seems like it would be a good way to ensure access to anyone who needs an abortion.

4 of the 5 Catholic justices on SCOTUS are far-right fundy-style Catholics, so I don't see much relief from THAT quarter.

GravatarI don't print all that much, but I've noticed mailing labels in a machine-readable font like Verdana seem to reach destinations more quickly.

GravatarJeffraham, my mother and her friends embraced the Web nearly a decade ago.  All in their 70s and 80s, they found that weather and health problems were no longer a hindrance to socializing, bragging about grandkids, playing games, etc.

The 4680 is definitely a home machine, for printing a couple of pages at a time. But it seems well-designed for that purpose.

GravatarI might print out copies of Monthly bills I pay online in case I need to establish a paper trail. I might print out cards, if the software still worked.

GravatarAlso, I don't think it would a complete surrender to create a private abortion fund. Once a public option were established, I think it would be possible to work several classes of abortion back in legislatively.

GravatarFellow I know in New Jersey does that with email. On a laser printer, too.

I found a free OS X app, Papparazi! that will save an entire web page, no matter how long/big.

Useful in some not often encountered instances.

Well, the problem with this approach is the lack of providers in many areas, and of course as soon as you isolate the treatment, you create a bonanza for protestors. A small number of easily identified targets that can be harrassed virtually without cost.

It's one hell of a give away.

GravatarJeffraham, they lived in Boston's Back Bay, so no long distance calls,  but most of them had some type of health problems, some major, some minor, and getting around for some of them was very difficult.  They liked that they could play online bridge or Scrabble in a snowstorm.

GravatarIt's not just the military, can you trust Muslims at school with your kids? Can you trust the safety of the food from their shops?

GravatarMy favorite font is New Century Schoolbook.

I personally find it very readable even in smaller point sizes.

It's serifed, but not to the point of being distracting.

For sans serif, either Helvetica or Arial.

GravatarTotally agree that privatizing abortion funding would delegitimize the procedure. It's a shitty trade to have to make. But the fight won't go away, and it seems like it would be a good way to ensure access to anyone who needs an abortion.
Andrew

I agree, but it would erase the Republicans when it comes to that issue. Free markets will provide safe and cheap abortions. On demand. To anyone, even young girls who haven't parental consent.

Health care privacy laws could go a long way here to protect choice.

GravatarWell, I wouldn't print a McDonald's coupon, either; but products I routinely use I would.

GravatarIf Mr. Panty Sniffer himself could possibly get pregnant, he'd be pushing for a bill to make it possible to obtain abortions at WalMart.

Gravatar Meander: You'd better go get paid.

No hurries. Can't deposit it until Monday. My bank isn't open on Saturdays, anymore.

GravatarThat's happened already.

Absolutely. I get where you're going ("this makes it no worse"), but I'm not sure of that.

I thought one of the points of the process was to bring health care to people who didn't have it - not start carving up into the "deserving sick" and the "undeserving sick".

I have to really think about this before I encourage my rep to vote for it.

Would we even be having the discussion if the bill was demanding that insurers not cover, say, sickle cell anemia treatments because a small minority had some objection to it? Would anyone REALLY say, "Oh, well, it's a foot in the door?"

GravatarI like several seriffed fonts, but the Postal Service scanning machines seem to recognize very clean sans-serif fonts most easily.

GravatarA British tourist has been shot dead in a bar in Texas. Thomas Reeve, 28, was killed in the city of Amarillo when shots were fired at several drinkers, the Foreign Office confirmed.

The attack happened at the Spotted Pony Lounge in the town at about 10.45pm local time on Thursday.

Police said Reeve arrived in Amarillo a few hours before the shooting. He was travelling across the US with two friends.

I'm ambivalent and really sick of those people, but I'm just pointing out that the current situation is as you describe already. The Pukes have been successful in slowly strangling abortion rights for poor women.

Gravatarstrike! - Union leaders have served formal notice of a ballot among thousands of British Airways cabin crew in a dispute over new contracts and job cuts.

Unite said thousands of its members would start voting on whether to launch a campaign of industrial action on November 16, the same day as new employment contracts come into force.

The ballot will close on December 14, raising the threat of strikes just before Christmas.

The union will have to give seven days notice of any action, so the earliest walkout would be a few days before Christmas, at the start of the busy festive season.

More than 13,300 cabin crew staff will be balloted, with union leaders predicting a big yes vote in favour of action.

Gravatarbut I'm just pointing out that the current situation is as you describe already.

I know, and you're quite correct. Argh. I have to go read the bill now and see what we DO get. But what I don't like is the attitude (not meaning you) of , "Oh, you women are already screwed, so we're not losing anything here". This is NOT a freebie win.

Gravatarthe insurers are the ones DRIVING this thing. if it was not for the insurers, there would be no bill at all.

Nonsense. Just like all of the other blather you post.

GravatarDidn't know that, but a beloved late uncle gave up a shitty stressful job to be a letter carrier, and never looked back.

Gravatars h o o t z

GravatarIt's hard out here for a poet. I'll post the whole thing in full so you can admire mastery of the sonnet form:

My love swears her vagina isn't scary,
And I believe her, though I know she lies,
With legs apart. Ye Gods! it is so hairy!
A very Satan dwells between her thighs!

A fiery portal is her crotch, a tomb
Where foolish men would living choose to lie;
What my love wishes I would love's a womb
Where boys are born as men, and where they die.

But why does she pretend so to be pure?
And why do knights yet fall to her vagina?
Fishers of men who've trolled the depths of her
Now flop on decks from Maine to Carolina.

And so it is with love and need and fear
I hear those lips say "Hopeless, enter here!"

GravatarI hope no Puke recites the Pledge of Allegiance, 'cause I don't wanna be driven crazy or nuffin.

Gravatar"My Apple Laser Writer was used when I got it."
Tucker

So was your underwear when you got it I bet punk.

GravatarPlantsman, I use Addressix for ALL my mailing label and envelope printing needs.

It prints the ZIP+4 barcode in any of the P.O. approved areas, as well as the POSTNET barcode on envelopes.

Those two barcodes will have your letters flying through the scanners all but untouched by human hands until the letter carrier delivers it.

It is well worth the modest US$13.00 shareware fee.

GravatarWell, as Malvina Reynolds so nicely explained it, "They brought it on themselves by being born a woman."

I wonder if our uberlords have considered that eventually women,(or vessels of reproduction) might decide that the new world just isn't good enough to bring new kids into.

As long as they're trying to control every single thing on our planet, they really need to learn how to read women's minds just a tad better.
