amputees sent back into battle.
Yeah, how 'bout that?
One of the many appalling insanities in our topsy-turvy world is how utterly abominable events and practices are spun as positives. So turning physically mangled soldiers into cyber-warriors by fitting them with high-tech prostheses is presented as a miraculous step ahead-- progress!
I admit I can't bring myself to make a point of reading corporate news reports on this subject, even Associated Press wire service reports now that the AP has degenerated into just another wingnut infotainment source. But-- correct me if I'm wrong-- my guess is that most news reports on this topic will feature victims-- er, troops-- who are appropriately enthusiastic about rejoining their outfit and giving it their best... well, shot.
I'm also certain that the articles will, like "Onion" parodies, feature comments from psychologists and other medical personnel emphasizing the "positives" of this diabolical turn of events: the soldier is spared the mental anguish and life-long issues of feeling useless, disempowered, guilt-ridden by persistent irrational feelings of having abandoned or failed his/her comrades, nostalgic, and alienated from civilian society.
It is, I'm guessing, pointed out that as superficially inappropriate as it may seem, multilated troops returning to combat assignments, or even combat-support assignments, is a win-win outcome. The military doesn't lose its investment, the hero feels appreciated and vindicated, and the Mission goes forward! Just put me back in, Coach-- I know I can do it this time!
Hooray for our side.

Joe can hardly complain about not getting any air time. Who's number one on the number of interviews on Press the Meat? Okay, John McCain. Who's the number two guest, blabbing away almost non-stop? Why, that would be little Joey Biden.
Maybe Joe is looking for appearances on the Factor, where he can be billed as "a Democrat who hates the extreme position of his wacko party."

Al Gore on Cspan says our Constitution presumes reasoned argument and therefore policy based on reason. I think that was Edmund Burke, not our founding fathers. Policy based on reason is inherently democratic. Who's doing the reasoning? Elites in Washington?

I will somehow oversee the making of the film "A Confederate General" before my life is done.
His most accessible and comic novel, IMO...I heard from his daughter's husband they have a producer, but it could be blather.

My favorite two Brautigan books were "Trout Fishing" and "Confederate General," then I kinda lost interest. Though I was leafing through "In Watermelon Sugar" a while back and found it interesting. So I might get back into him.
Only in the year 2007 could I be discussing Brautigan and a possible film, sitting beside my pond talking about anthropomorphization of animals with an 8-year-old simultaneously.
Calling him Joementum is still ridiculous given that his position on Iraq is diametrically opposed to Lieberman's, but Biden is dead wrong.
You really need to give this up, Atrios. It diminishes how bad Lieberman really is.

I want to kill Biden.
He is an ass's ass.
I can't remember the last time a Democrat did something so destructive to the party.
You know I just had an epiphany, Biden is a friken narcissist. Go rot Biden.

As Tim Russert's pet Democrat, now that Lieberman's an Independent, Biden gets so much air time on "Meet the Press" he doesn't really need the Fox exposure. Only avarice can explain his participation in the debate.
