I barely got done with yesterday's arrested Florida Republican, and we got another one today!
Former Orlando state Rep. Sheri McInvale's attempts to be reimbursed for a printing bill led to her arrest Thursday on charges of illegally recouping more than $7,500 in taxpayer money.
A sealed indictment made public charged McInvale and her former legislative aide, Robert Franklin Stuart Jr., with several official-misconduct charges, along with grand theft, cheating and falsifying records. They are accused of using state funds to pay a "private debt" in 2005 and 2006 while McInvale was still in the Legislature.

Vick will probably plead, and take his year in prison followed by probation. I predict he will play next year. He's too talented for every team to pass on him if Atlanta lets him go. And the NFL is not going to give more than a year suspension to an athlete for anything short of murder.

Meanwhile, the punditocracy has found its new descriptive way of choosing candidates. Forget about broad shoulders and Aqua Velva ...
Even though Alaska has very few electoral votes, [Alaska Gov.] Sarah Palin [(R)] would be an absolutely devastating addition to the GOP ticket – particularly if the Democrats nominate Hillary.
[...]
[Fred] Barnes described her as "a politician of eye-popping integrity ... now the most popular governor in America with an approval rating in the 90s, and probably the most popular public official in any state."
(And, let me add, just wonderfully equipped to counter if the Democrats presidentially nominate another – if older – pretty lady.)

McClatchy:
Commerce, Treasury funds helped boost GOP campaigns
WASHINGTON — Top Commerce and Treasury Departments officials appeared with Republican candidates and doled out millions in federal money in battleground congressional districts and states after receiving White House political briefings detailing GOP election strategy.
Political appointees in the Treasury Department received at least 10 political briefings from July 2001 to August 2006, officials familiar with the meetings said. Their counterparts at the Commerce Department received at least four briefings — all in the election years of 2002, 2004 and 2006.

I'm poor, but I've been giving him money in dribs and drabs, recommend everyone else does, too.
The effort now should be on keeping the debate on ideas before the American people. Get and Edwards bumpersticker, windown decal, talking him up to your friends.

Think back to this week in August 2003, and you're thinking about the 04 presidential candidates beginning to stir, thinking about this one and that one, and try to bring to mind your thoughts back then about the prospects, nominee-wise, of John Kerry.
For that matter, carry those then thoughts on over to November, December 2003 and I bet they're about the same - except for the estimable Kerry fans.
So, any current picture of next year's autumn is drawn on so much smoke and vapor.

I read that Vick was involved in the murdering of some the dogs. There is no contrition to be made other than fading away quietly that can absolve him of this crime.
smalfish,beatnik
I completely agree, and I hope Vick never plays again. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan and season ticket holder.
Seriously, though, I think some owner (Al Davis, anyone?) will see dollar signs and, if Vick isn't banned for life, sign him as soon as he's eligible. Sad, but that's probably what'll happen.

Even if it wasn't horrible idea from a public relations stand point, I see signing Vick as a pretty risky proposition.

Precisely. The NFL loves a winner, and Mike Vick, well, really hasn't been a consistent one on the field.

Word. I'd be even happier if some of them win, too. Congress has had people of color and women. The SCOTUS, same deal. And then you look at the pictures of the preznits and it's row upon row of white guys.

It's in the last part of the show. Morgan is on w/Craig Crawford (who i do not get, btw) and Naomi Wolf. Morgan starts shrieking, "I see a gleam in your eye, Chris. You are ENJOYING going after Dick Cheney" (because she has no other defense) and Tweety rolls his eyes. Then you see him look at someone off camera and move his head a smidge.
I think that's his, "Give the wench the hook" look.

Vick was given until 9 a.m. ET Friday to accept a plea deal that would require him to spend at least one year in prison on federal dogfighting conspiracy charges, reports say, but there was no immediate word on what the Atlanta Falcons quarterback decided.

I'd be v. surprised if Edwards would take VP, especially given his wife's illness and his young children. I think he could maybe draw in some southern votes, but southern men aren't voting for Hillary no matter who she picks as VP. She's likely looking for a western governor. I also don't see Hillary being willing to be a vp for say Obama or Edwards. I can see Obama taking the VP slot, given his relative youth and inexperience, and then making his own run in 8 years.

Mine is #318, but I note that all the other Arlington, VA High Schools are in the top sixty.
We always were the black sheep.
More importantly, my daughters' HS is #641, which is a sad commentary on the state of American education... it's worthless, as they'd be the first to tell you.
