Moron Alert
Idiots like Jesse Taylor of Pandagon have a habit of attacking Glenn Reynolds on a daily basis for really no other reason than to just do it. Part of it is jealousy, no matter how much they want to deny it. Reynolds is often touted as the premier blogger in the Blogosphere, and I suspect they feel good about themselves when they can get a little nasty. Plus, Reynolds is a law professor at Tennessee University, so I guess they get some 'penis measurement' gratification from going after him as well. Problem is, they often make fools of themselves as Jesse does this time. He starts off:
The Professor finds himself incapable of teaching an intro class at a community college operating outside of an abandoned warehouse in Montana.
This is typical Jesse. Insults insults insults. It's his forte. He'll do and then whine you are not 'debating' when you give some back.
My point in pointing to Burks was that a non-lefty white male who wrote something similar, but aimed at women, wouldn't be allowed the defense of "spoof."
So, let me get this straight - conservative white men aren't allowed the franchise of satire, according to Glenn.
No stupid. What Glenn is saying is that conservatives can not get off the hook by just saying what they penned was a spoof. Could it be any more clear?
Yet, I can't actually remember the last time a satire by a conservative white man was excoriated. I can't remember the last time a conservative white man even tried satire. There's Dinesh D'Souza, who's not white and who's not smart enough or imbued with sense of humor enough to actually have done a satire.
Actually, what D'Souza wrote is a perfect example. You and others on the left were screeching like banshees over what he wrote, declaring loudly he meant every word of what he wrote, when it was clear that it was over the top rhetoric.
But, as I thought was abundantly clear, my point was that if, say, Hootie Johnson wrote a piece calling for all women to be equipped with Norplant, to be removed only with the consent of their "designated partners" nobody would be bending over backwards to cut him slack because it was a spoof.
Well, if it was obviously written with humor in mind, rather than the normal conservative defense of writing something entirely offensive and subsequently calling it "humor" (i.e., the entire rationale of Free Republic, or Rush Limbaugh, or any of a number of other, lesser conservative pundits who don't know how to shape irrational hatred into a slightly more palatable mixture for radio), I don't think there would be a problem. The problem is, so few conservatives actually engage in what could be conscionably called "humor" in any productive way that it becomes difficult for Glenn to argue this point, except in the abstract.

First Jesse brings up the old liberal standard of Rush Limbaugh. Rush is a big blabbermouth, but this accusation that his show is filled with 'irrational hatred' is so stupid tha

stupid that it doesn't even deserve a full response. Then Jesse gives us his opinion and attempts to pass it off as fact. This is typical of people like Paul Krugman. They're always saying their opinions are 'facts.' Here's the problem. People like Jesse are so partisan, so entrenched in their loathing of anything conservative that no matter what happens, they will dislike it. People often do not consider something funny if it strikes a chord. Angry liberals like Jesse (think Joe Conason) don't find conservative humor to be funny because liberals like him are often the target of that humor.
The very basis of good humor is that it deconstructs the facade around a given event/person/thing, twists it to point out the facade, and then presents a cohesive, obviously satirical whole to an audience.
Huh? Sometimes a good dick or fart joke is funny, depending upon the situation. And when are people like Jesse going to learn that satire does not have to be funny? He's trying to get squeeze the definition of humor into his own little neat definition in order to justify his ridiculous rant.
Humor is not namecalling, as most conservative pundits are content to engage in
Oh please. This is just bullshit. Nuff said.
humor is not insults without merit, as most conservative pundits are also content to engage in
See above.
and humor is most certainly not whining about how minorities and women are holding the conservative white man down, at least not intentionally.
Who said this? This is nothing but a strawman. Jesse brings up a point not made by anybody, knocks it down and claims victory. Very lame, but then again it is Jesse.
And the hysterical response that appears every time someone points out the hypocrisy of the left on these matters seems to suggest that you're having trouble even with that.
It's not "hysteria", Glenn. It's people getting angry that there's an entire political movement out there aimed at doing nothing but spreading idiotic lies about them.
Oh man that was a good one. You have to wonder if Jesse was spoofing himself. He says it isn't hysteria but then launches into a tin foil hat accusation that conservatives have nothing better to do than lie about liberals. Idiot.
It's a big whine throughout the rest.
This is the best people like Jesse can do. Pathetic. I'm just happy that the overwhelming majority of liberals and progressives are more intelligent and willing to engage in constructive discourse.
And that ends the red meat post of the day.
