The GOP wingnut MSM noise machine is now deriding Clinton's 1990's U.S. economic, social and foreign policys, which produced some of America's most peaceful, prosperous and optimistic years ever. However, a consensus of U.S. Republican "conservatives" believe that what American policy in general needs to do is go further back, to the 1090's.

[another catch-up comment from below]
There's some fool at HuffPo who never fails to jump in to the comments on any article examining the problematic Democratic Party and 2008 election by offering Joe Biden as the obvious solution or alternative. This person may be Biden himself, or a blood relative.
I occasionally gently remind this person that Biden is a depraved hack whose presidential aspirations are as misguided as they are doomed. On the other hand, I would vote for Kucinich, and might do just that.
Still, I disagree with the-- shit, I think I really need to say "framing"-- of this tempest in a teapot as the Dems willing to appear on Fox "playing the race card".
I say this insofar as that's exactly the dilemma: the Congressional Black Caucus Institute made the unfortunate choice to have an event sponsored by a corrupt and unworthy media outlet. So the obvious question for the invited is whether to diss the Caucus by rejecting the invitation on principle, or tacitly legitimizing the corrupt sponsor by accepting it.
I consider "playing the race card" as meaning forcing a racial perspective unnecessarily or inappropriately to cloud the issue and obtain an unfair advantage. But here, the "card" is put in play by the fact that CBCI is by definition a race-based entity. So I think it's fair enough for a candidate to say that they see the issue as one of showing respect or consideration for the host (and its constituency) in spite of the choice of sponsor.
I'm not going to watch the damn thing anyway, but I don't see that this is an insidious use of the "race card"; either the candidate defines the event as a media thang and refuses to endorse the malignant media sponsor with its presence, or the candidate defines the event as a black thang and participates in spite of the sponsorship. I just don't see that deciding to accept the invite in hopes of getting more exposure, and possibly gaining African-American support, is some sinister subterfuge. It seems like the normal, routine sordid political calculation crap.
In "Seinfeld" terms, that is the bet.
True, it would be preferable if all candidates boycotted the event to teach the CBCI a lesson about choosing its sponsors more wisely.

I'm guessing Judge Reggie Walton, who grew up modestly in the Monongahela valley steel town of Donora, worked his way through college and law school, and has a reputation as a fair judge but a tough sentencer, won't be very moved by the argument that he should go easy on Scooter because the Yale-educated Irving Lewis (1) has suffered a setback to his lucrative career as a high-powered lawyer, (2) was in public service as a high government official (when he abused that position), and (3) has been "put through the ordeal" and expense of a trial (in which he was found guilty of blatant and repeated perjury and obstruction of justice, and for which his extremely rich and very well-connected "friends" paid the cost of his losing multi-million-dollar defense effort). My experience with federal judges is that they are not impressed with defendants who tell them "You have to understand, your Honor, I'm not like all those other felons who come before you." They hear it a lot, and rarely buy it.

Breaking News - Another US Terror Plot
We have all been saved again. Another deadly terror plot has been uncovered in its early stages, with plotters planning to blow up airliners/JFK/The NY Subway/Sears Tower (delete as appropriate). Doubtless Khalid Sheikh Mohammed confessed to it already.
Tell you what, you all run around being terrified, I need an afternoon nap. Maybe I'll wake up to find we've invaded another country, or at the very least introduced the State of Emergency in the UK which Blair and Reid have been asking for.
One night I was beating my head on watertiger's desk trying to explain to Draco that yes, all saxes have the same fingerings. Didn't matter that I've played them all, nope. I just could not figure out how to answer the question about instruments being in different keys, etc. in one short sentence.

the steering commitee ordered them from the co-op, so i think it's safe to assume they are also unionized sheep herders.
as for the music, we increased the volume specifically *for* the hearing impaired, because we didn't want them to feel left out from everyone else twisting and fruging and twirling. plus, we had signers available that could sign in seven languages so that no one would miss out on the lyrics to music like louie, louie.

Congressman Admiral Sestak didn't take my question. But some of what he said gave me pause (before today, I was inclined to support him, as better than Curt Weldon or whoever would be the alternative in PA-07).
Now, I'm thinking my/our dollars might be best spent getting more people who are not now Reps. elected, for example, Victoria Wulsin in OH-02.
"Many other substances dissolve in water, making it a solvent."
wrong.
that's actually erosion.

Actually I heard a physicist recently describe H2O as "universal solvent," explaining that is why it is so important in any search for extraterrestial life.

You are correct. Glass is a "super-cooled liquid" - it lacks a crystalline structure characteristic of solids.
Which explains what happens to socks that go missing in the dryer.

Play the good citizen for a while to gain people's trust.

Come back after you figure that people forgot your last outburst.

Chalk up another victory for President Bush's war on terror. The plot broken up today at JFK was a masterful piece of work by Homeland Security. Fox News is reporting this could be the first of many plots uncovered by this the Bush adminstration. Hats off. Look for a nice bump in the polls for the President.

Two things. He was unresponsive to a lot of good and decent questions. And the answers he did give were pretty pathetic. I previously thought he was an honest broker for ending this war. But not any more.

nonsense. try this experiment: put water in a plastic bottle. it stays there for years without disolving the bottle, right?
now, blast a plastic bottle with a pressure washer...you can bore a hole right thru it.
