GravatarThe GOP wingnut MSM noise machine is now deriding Clinton's 1990's U.S. economic, social and foreign policys, which produced some of America's most peaceful, prosperous and optimistic years ever. However, a consensus of U.S. Republican "conservatives" believe that what American policy in general needs to do is go further back, to the 1090's.

GravatarRegading that Kos diary, the fact that the guy brags he left early and saw a Brian DePalma movie speaks volumes to me.

And IIRC, that was on a double-bill with "Vertigo," the source film DePalma ripped off - why didn't he mention it?

And I don't recall ever seeing a bike rack in front of the Castro - where they use butter - that's right, HARDENED ANIMAL FAT! - on their popcorn.

GravatarI used to get in trouble everytime I made an Ann Coulter/transexual joke at the orange satan because I was being offensive and insensitive to the G/L/B/T community by finding any humor in her adam's apple and man hands.

GravatarOh Christ, we're in a severe thunderstorm warning, and the sun is shining.

Gravatar[another catch-up comment from below]

There's some fool at HuffPo who never fails to jump in to the comments on any article examining the problematic Democratic Party and 2008 election by offering Joe Biden as the obvious solution or alternative. This person may be Biden himself, or a blood relative.

I occasionally gently remind this person that Biden is a depraved hack whose presidential aspirations are as misguided as they are doomed. On the other hand, I would vote for Kucinich, and might do just that.

Still, I disagree with the-- shit, I think I really need to say "framing"-- of this tempest in a teapot as the Dems willing to appear on Fox "playing the race card".

I say this insofar as that's exactly the dilemma: the Congressional Black Caucus Institute made the unfortunate choice to have an event sponsored by a corrupt and unworthy media outlet. So the obvious question for the invited is whether to diss the Caucus by rejecting the invitation on principle, or tacitly legitimizing the corrupt sponsor by accepting it.

I consider "playing the race card" as meaning forcing a racial perspective unnecessarily or inappropriately to cloud the issue and obtain an unfair advantage. But here, the "card" is put in play by the fact that CBCI is by definition a race-based entity. So I think it's fair enough for a candidate to say that they see the issue as one of showing respect or consideration for the host (and its constituency) in spite of the choice of sponsor.

I'm not going to watch the damn thing anyway, but I don't see that this is an insidious use of the "race card"; either the candidate defines the event as a media thang and refuses to endorse the malignant media sponsor with its presence, or the candidate defines the event as a black thang and participates in spite of the sponsorship. I just don't see that deciding to accept the invite in hopes of getting more exposure, and possibly gaining African-American support, is some sinister subterfuge. It seems like the normal, routine sordid political calculation crap.

In "Seinfeld" terms, that is the bet.

True, it would be preferable if all candidates boycotted the event to teach the CBCI a lesson about choosing its sponsors more wisely.

GravatarWho is this Draco? Is he related to Novakula?

A real artist:

"How many times has Draco done the following:

1) Him: "I think I've severed my femoral artery. I'm bleeding pretty badly and feeling dizzy. What should I do?" Us: "GO TO THE DOCTOR NOW!" Him: "I don't feel good. Maybe I'll go lie down for a while." Us: "GO TO THE FUCKING DOCTOR!" Him: "There's no need to shout. Why is everybody so down on me?"

2) Him: "I wish people would stop posting such long comments. Ever since I shoved knitting needles into my eyes, I can't see so well." Us: "Uh...why don't you get some glasses, or adjust your font size or screen resolution?" Him: "I just can't see things on the screen, and scrolling past a long post is hard for me." Us: "Here's how you can adjust settings..." Him: "I'd also prefer double-spaced comments."

3) Him: "Tena, 7 threads down I asked you what I did to piss you off. Did you see it? Here it is again." Tena: "Yes, I saw it, and told you I'm not pissed." Him: "I just don't know what I did to set you off." Tena: "Nothing. Just let it go." Him: "Tena, why aren't you responding to my sincere question? It was even short and double-spaced." Tena: "Draco, I did! Shut. Up." Him: "Darn it, I always seem to mess things up. Maybe it's because I severed my femoral artery..."

If you said, "lots of times," then you win this Meta Queen Doll!"

GravatarI'm guessing Judge Reggie Walton, who grew up modestly in the Monongahela valley steel town of Donora, worked his way through college and law school, and has a reputation as a fair judge but a tough sentencer, won't be very moved by the argument that he should go easy on Scooter because the Yale-educated Irving Lewis (1) has suffered a setback to his lucrative career as a high-powered lawyer, (2) was in public service as a high government official (when he abused that position), and (3) has been "put through the ordeal" and expense of a trial (in which he was found guilty of blatant and repeated perjury and obstruction of justice, and for which his extremely rich and very well-connected "friends" paid the cost of his losing multi-million-dollar defense effort). My experience with federal judges is that they are not impressed with defendants who tell them "You have to understand, your Honor, I'm not like all those other felons who come before you." They hear it a lot, and rarely buy it.

No - there were a couple of guys who were tag-teaming whenever I posted about the FAA, and threatened to do not nice things to me, like contact my place of employment, or get my sister, who is one of the leaders of the air traffic controllers' union, in trouble at work. It's over. I gave it up because I needed to earn money more than I needed to blog. I was just amazed that they found my shitty little blog, though, and felt the need to harass me.

We have all been saved again. Another deadly terror plot has been uncovered in its early stages, with plotters planning to blow up airliners/JFK/The NY Subway/Sears Tower (delete as appropriate). Doubtless Khalid Sheikh Mohammed confessed to it already.

Tell you what, you all run around being terrified, I need an afternoon nap. Maybe I'll wake up to find we've invaded another country, or at the very least introduced the State of Emergency in the UK which Blair and Reid have been asking for.

Gravatar"And if so, were the shrimpherders unionized?"

the steering commitee ordered them from the co-op, so i think it's safe to assume they are also unionized sheep herders.

as for the music, we increased the volume specifically *for* the hearing impaired, because we didn't want them to feel left out from everyone else twisting and fruging and twirling. plus, we had signers available that could sign in seven languages so that no one would miss out on the lyrics to music like louie, louie.

no good deed goes unpunished.

Just saying.

GravatarConcern trolls

i definitely think troll quality has declined, not that it was good quality anyway

GravatarWhy should Libby go to jail? He will appeal. Necons don't go to jail, they are above the law.

GravatarAnd General Zod is an asshole.

Did someone mention my name?

Sit - entertain me!

I will accept your pathetic thoughts at my blog for a limited time. It will amuse me so!

GravatarI tried to explain to my better half the the fuel won't explode in liquid form and had to be a gas first."

GravatarWhat I want to know is how, in a household where the Brisket Fairy has only visited twice in his whole life, can Arthur be so aware as to come running when the word is used in casual conversation?

Gravatartry explaining why water is a solvent.

Many other substances dissolve in water, making it a solvent.

GravatarDamn! Forgot about the gravatar...

HAHAHA!

You need to set up a new account with a different addy just for Zod...

GravatarJust imagine, though, if diaries were possible on Eschaton. We'd have NTodd's memoirs of the dime days.

GravatarI thought the correct answer was "square root of negative 1."

Well, that is a crime against literacy.

and books in general.

GravatarWhat Arthur hears: blah blah blah brisket blah blah blah

GravatarThe dimwit at MSNBC and her counterpart at CNN were raving about blowing up the pipelines with all that jet fuel would be a tremendous explosion.

I tried to explain to my better half the the fuel won't explode in liquid form and had to be a gas first.

Oh and maybe there are a few valves along the way that could be shut too!
.

GravatarMany other substances dissolve in water, making it a solvent.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Gravatar"Many other substances dissolve in water, making it a solvent."

wrong.

that's actually erosion.

GravatarAnd I'm given to understand that glass-- ordinary window glass-- is actually a liquid.

Yet after I found this out, and rushed over to lick the nearest window when I grew thirsty, I came away more parched than ever! WTF?

GravatarBack when I was a kid, a dime bag cost a dime, and we still bitched when they raised the price to 15 cent.

Congressman Admiral Sestak didn't take my question. But some of what he said gave me pause (before today, I was inclined to support him, as better than Curt Weldon or whoever would be the alternative in PA-07).

Now, I'm thinking my/our dollars might be best spent getting more people who are not now Reps. elected, for example, Victoria Wulsin in OH-02.

Actually I heard a physicist recently describe H2O as "universal solvent," explaining that is why it is so important in any search for extraterrestial life.

GravatarOh fuck. RIP Steve Gilliard.

Oh man.

And the Tastee Freez inflation these days is fucking ridiculous!

(But then, NTodd has banned me from the Tastee Freez. *sob*)

GravatarAnd I'm given to understand that glass-- ordinary window glass-- is actually a liquid.
Little Brøther

You are correct. Glass is a "super-cooled liquid" - it lacks a crystalline structure characteristic of solids.

Which explains what happens to socks that go missing in the dryer.

(Fuck Haloscan, yada yada.)

GravatarSad news.

I'm assuming it hasn't been hacked.

Fuck.

Say, "brocolli." --stay asleep.

Say, "steak." --by your side.

GravatarAnd General Zod is an asshole.

Play the good citizen for a while to gain people's trust.

Go psycho. Leave after most people have finally figured out that you really are a troll.

Come back after you figure that people forgot your last outburst.

Repeat.

incog followed the same strategy.

GravatarChalk up another victory for President Bush's war on terror. The plot broken up today at JFK was a masterful piece of work by Homeland Security. Fox News is reporting this could be the first of many plots uncovered by this the Bush adminstration. Hats off. Look for a nice bump in the polls for the President.

GravatarHoly motherfucking shit.

GravatarSad news.

Oh no.

Sad indeed.

GravatarCongressman Admiral Sestak didn't take my question. But some of what he said gave me pause (before today, I was inclined to support him, as better than Curt Weldon or whoever would be the alternative in PA-07).

Two things. He was unresponsive to a lot of good and decent questions. And the answers he did give were pretty pathetic. I previously thought he was an honest broker for ending this war. But not any more.

GravatarMake it to The Summerlands, Mr. Gilliard.

Gravatar"Actually I heard a physicist recently describe H2O as "universal solvent,"

nonsense. try this experiment: put water in a plastic bottle. it stays there for years without disolving the bottle, right?

now, blast a plastic bottle with a pressure washer...you can bore a hole right thru it.

you people don't know dick about science.

GravatarAw hell.
.

GravatarSad news.

Oh shit.

GravatarSteve Gilliard was a damned good writer, and he endured a tough go of it over the last several months.
