DT'd...
When Boeing first rolled out plans for its Dreamliner, it said that it was reinventing the way it builds commercial airplanes. Instead of manufacturing most of the plane at its Everett, Wash., facility, many parts would be made by suppliers around the world. The parts then would be shipped to Boeing's plant for final assembly.
An attempt to spread the liability as far as possible. Which would also have the effect of lowering the overall airworthiness of planes built this way. Since no one has to worry about taking the whole hit when a plane goes down, QC, which can be a drag on production schedules, will be de-emphasized. Good thing doing it this way turned out to be such a clusterfuck...

I think I made that point in the last comment section.
But for now, I offer this from the letters to the editor at the NYTIMES:
To the Editor:
“Little Hope for G.O.P. to Support Health Bill” (news article, June 27) begins, “Congressional Republicans are finding much to dislike in Democratic health care proposals.”
Let me keep this as simple as I can: The American people should get the same health care coverage as their elected representatives; no more, no less. They work for us, not the other way around.
It is unconscionable behavior on their part to deny their constituents what they take for granted.
William R. Breen
Millerton, N.Y., June 27, 2009
and finally, I was at a play last night. they had an interlude at the beginning; they read the entire Declaration of Independence.
Very thoughtful and worth 8 minutes of your time today. I recommend it.

I didn't watch the speech, but this:
Palin mixed analogies to herself as a basketball player who knows “when it’s time to pass the ball” with bitter commentary against “political operatives [who] descended on Alaska—digging for dirt” as part of a “superficial, wasteful political bloodsport.”
She portrayed her resignation as a selfless choice done for the good of Alaskans. She said they will now be free of the expensive and distracting—and she said bogus—ethics inquiries generated by her new prominence. “Some Alaskans, maybe they don’t mind wasting public dollars and state time, but I do,” she said.
That sure as hell sounds like laying the ground work for "these indictments are teh work of partisan operatives out for political vengeance.... I had no idea that man was building us a vacation home... why yes, it is the same house I held my resignation speech at, also"
Bad stagecraft.

OK, this just dawned on me, and I'm probably way late, but...the reason for her announcement yesterday, as opposed to any other day, is now blisteringly obvious. This is supposed to be her "Indepenmdence day", but nobody would be listening today, and by the time the hangovers have dissipated, say Tuesday, it'd be too late. True, her approval rating as governor of Alaska has dropped to 54 percent, her lowest ever, but it is not that far below Barack Obama’s national approval rating of 62 percent.
There is little doubt that Obama is the most popular politician in America (and probably the world). Yet when voters were asked last week in a Diageo/Hotline poll if they would reelect Obama today or would like to see “someone else” be elected president, Obama got 46 percent, and “someone else” got 30 percent. That’s a nice margin for Obama, but it’s not astronomical.
All those years sharing a lunch room with Michael Barone warped his brains.

There were 4 of those. They showed "Night of the Meek" last night.

That was done in the Simpsons (who mined the TZ for plots all of the time) where Milton and Bart were adults (sort of) by the time they were able to rebuild the watch. comedy gold.

True, her approval rating as governor of Alaska has dropped to 54 percent, her lowest ever, but it is not that far below Barack Obama’s national approval rating of 62 percent.
They're comparing the (soon to be ex) governor of one of the least populated states in the country with the President of the United States?
WTF!

Left.
Bizarrely, I never saw backwards flags until recently on U.S. military uniforms, and also cop cars.
When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left. When displayed in a window, the flag should be displayed in the same way, with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street.
