State Sen. James J. Rhoades suffered serious injuries -a broken leg and internal bleeding - in a car crash near Brodheadsville last night, according to reports.
Rhoades and his wife were flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown last night. The hospital is not releasing any informaton today on his condition. We are trying to get details from the senator's chief of staff.
State Sen. Rhoades airlifted from crash The accident happened as Rhoades was traveling north on Route 209 and his Cadillac collided with a truck traveling the other way, police said. After the initial crash, Rhoades car then struck another vehicle that had pulled onto the shoulder.
The driver of the truck, Thomas Senavitis of Albrightsville, was also flown to a hospital.
Rhoades, R-Schuylkill, attended an event at Pleasant Valley High School before the accident.
Rhoades, an East Stroudsburg University graduate, has served in the state Senate since 1980 and is seeking an eighth term; he is chairman of the Senate Education Committee and is also on the Appropriations Committee, among others.
His district includes Schuylkill County and parts of Berks, Monroe, Northampton, Lehigh and Carbon counties.

Pennsylvania State Senator Dies After Car Crash
HARRISBURG (AP) ― State officials say Sen. James Rhoades(R) has died from injuries suffered in a car crash.
In a joint statement, Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati and Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi say Rhodes died Saturday, a day after being injured in a car accident near Brodheadsville in Monroe County.
The 66-year-old, seven-term Republican senator was the longtime chairman of the Senate Education Committee.
Police say the accident happened as Rhoades was traveling north on Route 209 and his Cadillac collided with a truck traveling the other way.
His wife was also hurt in the accident.
There's no immediate word on her condition.
