I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarDon't harsh my Scooter buzz, man!

GravatarNo way. Not this time.

GravatarI had no expectations he would ever serve.

GravatarUm, we can bitch. So what?

A federal judge is appointed and whoever is in office when a vacancy comes up - we get their nominee. Whether we bitch or not.

GravatarLack of faith in the judicial system is cause by the erosion of the rule of law.

"Activist" is dog whistle for ""upholding the zConstiution"

GravatarMy point is actually - and I totally failed to make it - once they're on the bench, there's nothing you can do. Bitching is fine - but these are federal judges.

So the right bitched - ok.

That didn't unseat any of them.

No, but conservative judges that believe that upholding the Constiution and sticking to the rule of law get death threats and slander.

No, but it put in the collective public mind the idea that judges are liberal fucks fucking with the Constitution.

Funny how people never take this advice.

GravatarHow bad does it have to get before people react?

I'm afraid it has to be personal to most people, not theoretical or philosophical, before they start to get really outraged.

Perhaps the greatest genius of the maladministration is their ability to shelter most people from the bad ramifications of their policies, and blaming the failures that can't be ignored on factors beyond anyone's control. Or evildoers.

My guess is that -- rightly or wrongly -- they're afraid that the pardon would equal the Saturday Night Massacre from Watergate, in terms of public outrage.

Other than that, I can't even guess...

GravatarI find your lack of faith disturbing.

Actually: no, I don't. Our justice system is a sham. There is no justice; only the pursuit and exercise of power.

DWD - Dystopic

I think the Paris Hilton horror will be the turning point.

Actually, I talked to my ex and he said that he just had two of his violent sex offenders released after only weeks in prison, so Paris is serving harder time than two sex offenders -- violent sex offenders.

I had also assumed that the Sheriff's office had caved from pressure from her family, her lawyers, and her psychologists, but my ex says Baca was paid off. He said that Baca is the highest paid public servant in the US, and even the gifts that he acknowledges receiving are quite pricey.

I didn't ask for proof, though.

"Thou shalt not bear false witness' doesn't mean "Thou shalt not lie", it means "perjury", God's OK with lying otherwise.

So it's only two.

GravatarI'm outta here.

I'll say it again -= public pressure on the judiciary is very bad indeed, in my opinion.

They are supposed to be neutral. It doesn't bode well when public pressure figures into the equa†ion.

If Bush pardons him Fitz immediately has an opening to go back to the White House and investigate 'why'. The guy was convicted based on evidence of obstruction of justice by lying. The person he covered for is in the WH.
The best the WH can hope for is they keep Libby out of prison until he wins on appeal.
If not then his time spent will counts as 'good little soldier' time and he'll be rewarded bountifully in many ways.
.

GravatarCan Bush pardon people convicted of state crimes, or just federal crimes?

GravatarA working class hero is something to be.

A working class hero is something to be.
There's room at the top they are telling you still,
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill,

GravatarIt doesn't bode well when public pressure figures into the equa†ion.

Has it not always been thus? Do we think the judge did not take into account the publics perceptions of the outcome of his decision?

GravatarThou shalt not commit murder.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness.

Aren't those double negatives? So isn't God saying we should murder, steal and lie?

Gravatar"Thou shalt not bear false witness' doesn't mean "Thou shalt not lie", it means "perjury", God's OK with lying otherwise.

You can interpret it how you wish, but I know of no such restriction to jury trials only.

And be that as it may, it is a good start, so I'm counting it.

Ahem. We call that a parable concerning the humanity of the Christ.

No. No, they aren't.

GravatarI think Bork and Libby are working on a slip-and-fall-in-the-shower scheme.
Libby gets sprung or sues the government for 1000K.

GravatarWorth noting that Sentelle, Silberman, et al were put on their respective courts when Democrats last controlled the Senate. IOW, they were effectively appointed by _Democrats_.

GravatarI find your lack of faith very DIS-turbing.

-

GravatarDem consultants and candidates:

"The party of Scooter Libby, a convicted felon who outed a covert CIA agent for partisan political reasons and was pardoned by right-wing judges"

Probably could be worded better but keep repeating it.

GravatarYou have to keep in mind, that some people tried to warn the French nobility that they were going too far. If they had taken even moderate care of their people and their government, probably none of them would have take a trip to the guillotine.

The people in this country who style themselves as nobility-- elevating themselves above the laws and regulations, shielding their interests to the detriment of regular citizens-- are displaying a stunningly similar disinterest in the peril of their own situation. They seem almost eager to repeat the excesses of corrupt, imperial France.

If they don't start behaving as responsible democratic citizens, I am concerned that France's remedy to their noble problem might also be repeated.

GravatarI think that Scooter will lose, and I think that he will serve some time. The liklihood that Bush will pardon him after the election is almost 100%, but in the interim there will be some punishment for Mr. Libby. None of this is what would happen in an ideal world, but considering the success of the White House in evading responsiblility for its many crimes, it is a demonstration that remenants of a justic system still survive.

GravatarI can't see how he can win an appeal on any legal issues. Maybe a dishonest court, such as that which installed Bush to begin with. He might never serve a day, let alone his full sentence, but it is really hard to imagine that he isn't completely guilty of the crimes for which he was convicted.

GravatarNothing in the bible about abortion.

Passover comes close.

GravatarSomeone near the Firedog crowd was on a plane with Fitz once, into or out of Chicago . I daydreamed not about some lengthy conversation about the LIbby case, which he wouldn't discuss anyway. No, I dreamed of seeing him react, if only for a brief moment, when I suggested that the DC circuit was certain to overturn on appeal.

The whole exercise has been on the order of tilting at windmills.

GravatarI thought that read "*Feith* in the judicial system" for a second and I threw up in my mouth a little.

GravatarDuring the Reagan years, the danger the Communists represented to our freedom-loving democracy paled in comparison to the internal danger to our country from the insane, totalitarian nutjobs at the Federalist Society and other far-right fascist groups.

The same holds true during the past six and a half years.

The danger the al Qaeda represents to our freedom-loving democracy doesn't even come close to the danger our nation is in from the continuing evil machinatons of the Federalist Society, and all the neo-Communist-type "moles" they've planted throughout our democratic institutions.

Outing a covert CIA agent is a very serious matter. A traitorous act. A treasonous act.

If these corrupt Federalist Society "moles" in the federal judiciary free Libby on a technicality, then they are just as much traitors as Libby and everyone else in the Bush White House responsible for endangering our national security.

And the Republican noise machine is laying the foundation for this further treason to our nation by repeating the lie that there was no underlying crime, so people should just overlook Scooter Libby lying to FBI investigators and to a federal grand jury, because Libby was just lying about something that didn't really happen, so no foul, or so these incredibly insane and traitorous people claim.

But we know differently. Republicans have gone too far and betrayed our Constitution and our nation too often to be "overlooked" anymore.

And it is time for WE THE PEOPLE to hold all the corrupt Republicans, and even some corrupt Democrats (Lie-berman and the DLC Democrats), accountable for their blatant, nefarious assault on our democracy, an assault on the U.S. that must be making even the Communist and al Qaeda envious.

Scooter Libby is just the tip of the iceberg. Thousands of "Aldritch Ames"-type traitors have been planted throughout our freedom-loving society, in legislatures, in the judiciary, top-to-bottom, federal and state levels, a ticking fascist timebomb that is just waiting to explode and destroy all that we hold dear...life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

So, if the traitorous Libby skates, like North and Poindexter did before, then we will know that we are that much closer to our democracy being destroyed, after being subverted and sabotaged from within, by some very evil people.

GravatarHow many of the Romney boys are gay?

GravatarHe won't win his appeal, nor will he ever be pardoned. Not before he goes into prison, not after the election, not on Jan. 20, 2009. Bush doesn't care what happens to him, and will be so weak politically by election time he won't dare do it. Bush will be in too much trouble himself.

GravatarThe Oracle

Well put.

GravatarBush cannot pardon Libby, with independent counsel still empowered.

It's why Nixon had to resign. He was subject to prosecution if he stayed, on enaction of conflicts he pardoned.

Hus VP could not pardon him either, and was party to crime. He had to resign too.

Cheney wont resign. It's going to come to a head.

Judges will abandon Libby when the civil case undertaken by the Wilsons adds to discovery. You will not corrupt the blood of patriots who were tasked with tracking WMD.

Wilsons add civil discovery, new criminal charges arise, Libby turns nuclear, Bush and Cheney unable to pardon and too stubborn to leave.

Bush will flip on Cheney. The graft of Halliburton will be lost to the families who lost people in the network, the ones remaining who were not renditioned or disappeared as a plan to kill whistleblowers on back channels.

GravatarThe democrats run from the bullying and name calling of the republicans. They let the republicans define them.

The old adage "names can never hurt me" has been proven to be so wrong. Democrats allowed themselves to be "hurt" by the name "liberal" and now they haven't the cajones to fiercely defend the law and judges allowing once again the bullies to do real harm to the law and to America.

Are there no democrats strong enough to stand up to the bullies and tell them they are full of shit? Are there no democrats competent enough and sure enough of their own beliefs to show these corporate spoiled greedy bullies up for what they are, feudalists who consider themselves above and beyond the laws of this land?????

The republicans are the representatives of the corporations and industries and the rich. Where are the representatives and defenders of the people and the law and the constitution?????

GravatarThe defense of Libby during their appeal has an ace in the hole. Silberman. I think he tries to run the Appeals Court as Scalia does the SCOTUS. I think he is the one who appointed Starr after they weren't satisfied with the two previous prosecutors.

Gravataron FOX last week, the "newscaster" even referred to the "infamous" 9th circuit court of appeals.

faith in the judicial system exists only among the left, which is very odd, really.

GravatarThe reason that Democrats trust the judiciary is because liberals are part of the reality-based community. History has shown that eventually the courts catch up with reality.

If we take the GOP perspective then we betray our principles to the rule of the strong.

Gravatarat some point it's time to recognize that lack of faith might be deserved

Gee, ya think?
