Obama has the height and reach, and McCain can't lift up his arms, so I'd say it's pretty much a given.

Despite widespread popular belief, U.S. military installations abroad and U.S. diplomatic or consular facilities are not part of the United States within the meaning of the 14th Amendment. A child born on the premises of such a facility is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and does not acquire U.S. citizenship by reason of birth.
This raises a shitload of issues for the Government. If they concede that McCain is a natural born U.S. Citizen, they will have to recognize ALL the kids that were born on U.S. military installations. McCain's parents had to file a lot of paperwork to confirm his citizenship as do many military and overseas families."

I think more likely, deep purple. Texas, as I've said before, has been a one-party state since Reconstruction. I'd be happy if it were two parties, at last.
And the GOP has nobody to vote over. It's McCain, or it's Huckabee, and most people in Texas don't have that much respect for Arkansas, despite the fact Huckabee is a Southern Baptist preacher.
Still, I think Texas is changing, and I'm hoping it finally becomes two-parties and the change hits the Lege.

The Obama campaign and its allies are outspending us two to one in paid media and have sent more staff into the March 4 states. In fact, when all is totaled, Senator Obama and his allies have outspent Senator Clinton by a margin of $18.4 million to $9.2 million on advertising in the four states that are voting next Tuesday.
So if Hillary has all this money, and is going around saying TX and OH are must-wins for her, why has she only spent $9M there??????

Let's be clear about what Obama did, once in 2003 and twice before that. He effectively voted for infanticide. He voted to allow doctors to deny medically appropriate treatment or, worse yet, actively kill a completely delivered living baby. Infanticide - I wonder if he'll add this to the list of changes in his next victory speech and if the crowd will roar: "Yes, we can."

Rising prices are forcing Americans to spend more and save less, even as the growth of income slows.
Consumer spending, which accounts for more than two-thirds of gross domestic product, was flat in January for the second month in a row, when adjusted for inflation, the Commerce Department said on Friday. Other reports showed a decline in consumer confidence and diminished business activity in the Midwest.

"According to the State Department:
(alternet)
This is very true and it has always been true. A child with a birth certificate from an overseas military base needs naturalization documents JUST TO GO TO SCHOOL.

Of course I don't expect to agree with everything a pol says. I don't agree with every Obama position. I think his health care plan is crap for instance.
This SoSec thing annoys me however. As far as I can find he used the word "crisis" one time in a debate, yet people continue to assert that calling it a "crisis" is part of his platform.

We have family Australia. One cousin was born to US parents on Guam while her dad was in the Navy in the 50s. She was raised in Australia where her parents moved after he was discharged (and started one of the first dive shops, but I digress.)
When she tried to apply for US citizenship, she was denied when she applied as a young adult. Circumstances must have had some bearing. But it's an example of someone who didn't automatically get citizenship.

Obama believes that the first place to look for ways to strengthen Social Security is the payroll tax system. Currently, the Social Security payroll tax applies to only the first $97,500 a worker makes. Obama supports increasing the maximum amount of earnings covered by Social Security and he will work with Congress and the American people to choose a payroll tax reform package that will keep Social Security solvent for at least the next half century.

This SoSec thing annoys me however. As far as I can find he used the word "crisis" one time in a debate, yet people continue to assert that calling it a "crisis" is part of his platform.

Hey, Snow, Lindsey has a formidable republican chllenger, Tim Carnes:
Tim is not a politician. He believes firmly that it is time the people of South Carolina are represented by an average citizen with common sense, strong conservative and moral values, and a backbone to stand firm, rather than someone attempting to be a liberal pacifier. Lindsey Graham prides himself on having been rated as a 90 % conservative. 'A billboard campaign for “Crispy Frickin’ Chicken” is ruffling the feathers of a Pennsylvania couple who believe the word “frickin’” is a “euphemism for fornication.”
…Michael and Shari Sucec of Harrisburg, Pa., have asked supervisors in Derry Township to join their fight against the placard promoting a Sheetz Made To Order sandwich.
“It really is profanity,” Michael Sucec said, according to the Lebanon Daily News.
Carrying a worn-looking Bible in his hand, the self-described street preacher told the supervisors he had contacted Lamar Advertising, the outdoor-advertising firm that sells the billboard space, as well as the Derry Township zoning office, to see if there was a legal way to have the sign removed."

Lovely column by Susan Estrich at Rasmussen today.
A funny thing is about to happen to Barack Obama...His friends in the press are about to turn on him.
They can't help themselves. They've been caught fawning, made fun of for favoritism, become the subject of their own scrutiny...
It's the press's nature to turn on those they most adore. The bigger the buildup, the bigger the letdown. Watch the balloon fill with air. Watch them start pricking holes. Watch the balloon lose air. Wait to see if there's still a balloon at all in the end...
Soooooo, uh, Susan? If this is the case, then we can expect the fawning media to turn on McCain...today? Soon? In another 10 years? Ever?
How hard can it be to find decent liberal media voices? Why are the vast majority of them as vapid as Susan Estrich?

The most recent defeat of the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill is evidence that when the people get involved, good things can and will happen. This was a victory, but we are not finished. There is more to do and we cannot trust Lindsey Graham to stand for what is right. We can count on the fact that he and Ted Kennedy will attempt to introduce pieces of this failed amnesty bill at every opportunity. Mr. Graham has failed to hear the voices of the people of South Carolina and has instead partnered with the liberal voices to betray the interests the state's citizens.

It really is profanity,” Michael Sucec said.
Ah no Mike, it’s really a euphemism.
No, it isn’t even that. It’s a straight-up obscenity right out of German. It comes from the same root word as “fuck,” which has a glorious old lineage (far older than the “Victorian initialism” folk etymology would have it) and is truly one of the core surviving Old Englishisms.
Also, to reiterate slightly, it isn’t a profanity (blasphemy, speaking against God), it’s an obscenity (speaking about offensive, usually in our culture bodily, matters). “Dammit” is a blasphemy. “Calique” is a blasphemy. “Frickin’”? Not so much.

i'm not talking about priorities (unless, of course, they say "and my number one priority is ..." and then never address it). i'm talking about claiming a position they do not hold - or intend to hold. of course, people can change and once in the WH have access to more data. and sure, i can accept a mistake from which one learns and does not repeat (or even better, denounces [or even better, rejects]).
but don't tell me it's ok to misrepresent because "they all do it."
Be very afraid.

Just got off the phone with Ruth. Her hand is immobilized in a splint and bandage for a week. She's not supposed to do anything whatsoever with it until next Wednesday. (How do you do that?) She's really frustrated.
Very happy to hear about the little ham hock, though.

Absolutely. In 2008 America, there are so many political minefields it's incredible. There are simply things you cannot say, however rational. There are things you MUST say, however despiccable.
We have to effing win this election.

Liberals get it from both directions. The hard right despises them because they think they are hard left, and the Hard Left despises them for not being 'Left' enough.

obama isnt using the republicans' language anymore, and he wants to strengthen social security. that's good enough for me--note, i dont think he ever specifically took an anti social security position--we are talking about a more ambigious situation, open to different interpretations. at any rate, i have never found a 100 percent pure candidate, usually in the real world they are making compromises and tradeoffs, making politics work.

I liked the "Che" thing. The guy's picture is on handbags they sell at the mall, for Christ's sake.
they had some crazed wingnut on a local NPR talk show here. He kept referring to our blue dog rep (Dennis Moore dum dum dum) as a "Liberal Democrat". It an epithet to them, and has nothing to do with their actual positions.

I know it is going to come as a shock to some of the barackites, but there are people who think his resume is a little on the light side, as in razor thin. The Clinton campaign asked a legitimate question and I for one, think it should be brought up on a daily basis between now and November. I think Obama will win the Democratic nomination, the same way that Lieberman won re-election in Ct. Pukes voting for him.
From the way that the barackis have gotten their panties all bunched up, I think the red phone question struck a chord.

et tu atrios? all the nasty jibes against Hillary from obamabots on this thread. if you think Hillary supporters and life long staunch Democrats are going to fall in line behind your messiah, you've got another thing coming. his right wing framing and his sucking up to the media hatred of the Clintons is bad enough but this Clinton supporter has had it with the Obama supporters. you all sound like you should be posting your comments on Freak Republic. nasty only begets nasty and I ain't heard no new tone from obama world. you can't even get unity with true Democrats and you think Rethugs are going to flock to your guy? I'll have to see some big changes in Obama's positions and the behavior of his supporters before I consider casting my vote for him. I have never voted for a Repuke in my life and I won't start with McLame but I will sit this one out and many Hillary supporters feel the same way (the point of the campaign message - Hillary wins Democrats). so stop the hating obamabots and start figuring out how to win over the Democratic electorate (particularly Latinos like me) if god forbid your savior wins the nomination because right now you don't have me and I am representative of millions of Dem voters who don't hear your guys' dog whistle.
