"presumptuous" can also be mistaken for "presumptive", which both parties' nominees are being called. I bet there is a huge portion of voters who don't know the difference between the words and thus the "presumptuous" label doesn't register much of anything.

Cokie Roberts on Stephanoupolos a few weeks back referring to something Michelle Obama is supposed to have said.
The Coke said: Doesn't matter whether she said it or not. It only matters that it's out there that she did say it.
In this The Coke reflects accurately her New Orleans upbringing, where William Faulkner of sainted memory informed us all: A think was, whether or not it was, if people thought it was.
From the appendix to The Sound and the Fury:
"above them all set not his wife's honor but the principle that honor must be defended whether it was or not because defended it was whether or not."

I am voting for Obama, or whoever is the Democratic nominee.
Regardless of FISA, his VP choice, any dumb fool thing he may say between now and Election Day, any stupid honey trap he might be caught in, any al Qaeda attack, any personal circumstances of my own, any residual bitterness my wife has over how Hillary has been snubbed, any cynicism of my brilliant daughter.
He is a long way from perfect. He is even farther than that from the current incompetent, murderous & venal crowd now in power. And anyone the Republicans nominate will be more of the same.
This may be our country's last chance. OK, it's hyperbolic, but snip away another four or five of the Bill of Rights, and we are kaput.
And that's where St. John wants to take us, on the Good Ship GOP.
