I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos: “You were asked is he ready. You said ‘I think he can be ready, but right now I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.’”

Sen. Biden: “I think that I stand by the statement.”

Impeach!

GravatarNow Atrios is riding the TPM tire swing.

GravatarBiden, on a post-debate appearance on MSNBC, October 30, 2007: “The only guy on the other side who’s qualified is John McCain.”

Biden appearing on The Daily Show, August 2, 2005: “John McCain is a personal friend, a great friend, and I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off, be well off no matter who...”

On Meet the Press, November 27, 2005: “I’ve been calling for more troops for over two years, along with John McCain and others subsequent to my saying that.”

GravatarMy grandmother died of metalepsis.

Gravatardoes the AP get a tax break for these in-kind donations to the McCain campaign?

GravatarWhat are the chances Ron Furriner had a template of Republican talking points and just had to plug in the salient name and numbers?

GravatarAssessing Obama’s Iraq plan on September 13, 2007: “My impression is [Obama] thinks that if we leave, somehow the Iraqis are going to have an epiphany” of peaceful coexistence among warring sects. “I’ve seen zero evidence of that.”

Speaking to the New York Observer: Biden was equally skeptical — albeit in a slightly more backhanded way — about Mr. Obama. “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

GravatarI can stand almost anything, but that "power to the people" thing of kos's is killing me.

GravatarWhat did he say the day after the Iowa primary?

GravatarFor all the republic trools that are quoting the McCain't campaign's quoting of Biden's statements while he was campaigning, how much traction you think that's going to get you?

Answer: zero.

Remember VooDoo economics?

GravatarSteve Benen, via TBogg, on Fournier

GravatarTweety and Keef up next on MSNBC.

GravatarWell, now we know what the talking points will be:

1. Obama has no self-confidence (except, of course, when he's being arrogant and elitist) so he went with the guy who gives him some gravitas.

2. Biden himself is going to vote for McCain.

Gravatar2. Biden himself is going to vote for McCain.

heh. You too funny, gf.

GravatarWhat time is the Springfield rally?

GravatarI hope that tire swing is properly inflated.

GravatarShuster in hack mode is hard to take.
plantsman

he's hard to take, period. with that Wallace (of Grommit fame) mouth of his. and that crossed-eyed gay black rethug strategist is infuriating

GravatarInteresting note: Both Obama and Biden have taught constitutional law.

Will this mean they know how desperately important it is to fix it?

GravatarI'll say it one more time:

Biden wouldn't have been my choice, and I don't like him for a lot of reasons, but in the end Obama is still going to win big.

The problem is what he and the Dems do with that win big, and nothing I've heard since before the primaries gives me any particular optimism about that.

I think they'll continue to let the Republicans determine the terms of the arguments, and, ultimately, give the Republicans almost everything they want.

GravatarWait till you see who I pick for veep...after I take the convention from that namby pamby loser.

GravatarMy wife things I waste far too much time on the blogs, but somehow I still missed what this "riding the tire swing" thing refers to. Obviously something having to do with Ron Fournier's hackery and almost having taken the job for McCain, but yes, a metalepsis it is.

GravatarWell, now we know what the talking points will be:

Dumbass Toby believes all of them, I'm sure.

Jeezus, doesn't that stupid mother fucker have a life?

And why can't he be banned? I mean, WGG gets banned but we have to put up with a racist fuck like Putzhole?

tons of people are already gathering too.

GravatarI agree, sort of, with Biden. McCain was the least crazy of the Repub candidates. Huck, Mitts, Hunter - come on- how could he not win with that line up. That doesn't make him a good choice for president- just less egregious than the other alternatives.

Gravatar"back off bitch. He's my man"-Rick Warren to Ron Fournier

Did you watch the McMegan video of the infamous press barbecue at the Cabin estate, she talked about how cute it was to see some bigfoot reporter playing on the tireswing.

GravatarAnd one more thing -- the idea that David Brooks not only predicted the Biden nomination but thinks it proves Obama is a serious, mature candidate should make everybody here very, very nervous.

Gravatardissing younger women isn't going to help either.

Weird.

GravatarI guess Obama felt he needed an old white man to lend him credibility.

They're not going to turn any of US into rightards.

GravatarBy the way, I still believe that the Adulterous Senile Gigolo is going to go with Huckabee as veep.

Of course, as late as yesterday afternoon, I was still insisting that Obama absolutely was going to pick Hillary, so take that with a grain of salt.

GravatarTire swing, I think

GravatarI'm with Richard. I have no idea what the tire swing thing is supposed to mean. Google was no help.

Gravatarriding the swing refers to an image from the Mcsame press BBQ. Mcsame daughter has a youtube posting and narration of the event, which includes all the usual hackery and reach arounds, and among them is AP reporter woman so drunk she falls off the tire swing.
there are plenty of yucks and good times and of course mcsame wears his Navy hat and Cindy talks about how much nicer it is at "the cabin" than in DC.
there is also a brief portion on the "help at the cabin" who live in one of the out buildings.

GravatarVirginia Madsen is selling Botox?

i saw that this morning. and what's the tag line -- something about 'expression'.

GravatarI prefer "going face first down the MSM water slide".

So does Lindsey Graham.

and there are still more sheets

GravatarBenen piece...

Second, in context, Fournier's objectivity covering the presidential race continues to look shaky. We are, after all, talking about a journalist who, as recently as last year, considered working for the McCain campaign.

Before Ron Fournier returned to The Associated Press in March 2007, the veteran political reporter had another professional suitor: John McCain's presidential campaign.

In October 2006, the McCain team approached Fournier about joining the fledgling operation, according to a source with knowledge of the talks. In the months that followed, said a source, Fournier spoke about the job possibility with members of McCain's inner circle, including political aides Mark Salter, John Weaver and Rick Davis.

GravatarHow stupid are the so-called Liberal Media?

Over at MSNBC, Shuster and Tweety are wondering whether or not Obama and Biden will have prepared speeches or not today, and wondering what it would mean either way.

GravatarI've never understood WHY they believe that coming here spouting their right wing bullshit is going make anyone here think the way they do?
---------------------
They don't. They are simply gloating over all the campaign material that this ridiculous VP selection gives them.

Were you talking to me?

Steve

Sometimes I have to prepare myself before entering Eschaton. Your enthusiasm and 'cup half full' attitude overwhelms me at times. You are truly an optimistic tornado!
[This was all said in supreme affection, of course.]

GravatarI had to look this word up. Normally I don't

From the 1828 Websters dictionary.
metalepsis
METALEP'SIS, n. [Gr. participation; beyond, and to take.]
In rhetoric, the continuation of a trope in one word through a succession of significations, or the union of two or more tropes of a different kind in one word, so that several gradations or intervening senses come between the word expressed and the thing intended by it; as "in one Caesar there are many Mariuses." Here Marius, by a synecdoche or antonomasy, is put for any ambitious, turbulent man, and this, by a metonymy of the cause, for the ill effects of such a temper to the public.
there are more definations at other online dictionarys but I like the first one the most.

metalepsis
n. rhetorical device of changing figurative sense by metonymy. metaleptic(al), a.; Medicine, applied to muscle associated with others in action.

n. pl. Metalepses .
(Rhet.) The continuation of a trope in one word through a succession of significations, or the union of two or more tropes of a different kind in one word.

Met`a`lep´sis
n. 1. (Rhet.) The continuation of a trope in one word through a succession of significations, or the union of two or more tropes of a different kind in one word.
Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, published 1913 by C. & G. Merriam Co.
metalepsis
a rhetorical device in which a word that is used figuratively is taken through a succession of its different meanings or two or more tropes are united in the use of a single word. — metaleptic, adj.

GravatarRon fournicator is the fruit if AP being a cooperative. The news service is actually owned by its subscribing papers and broadcast outlets. In the days when I worked there--30 years ago -- it was the straightest and most objective of all the reporting outlets. You just didnt do opinion or have any slant in stories. the texture of things was as right down the middle as possible.
it was heavily edited to achieve that.
what we have now is a cooperative but with the governing board of murdochs and singletons--i think he is chairman now--and all manner of right wing corporate chain radio types who purchase the service so their talent can rip-and-read the news. only no ripping now in the 'puter age.

GravatarTerry, I don't know enough abt you to care abt you, but you really ought to take stock of your emotions. How is it possible that a total stranger can make you that angry? It's silly. Resolve to not care.

Why don't you just pull the Republican lever?

GravatarATRIOS MADE ME LOOK UP A WORD IN THE DICTIONARY!!!!!!

GravatarCut 'n pasted from Political Wire:

I have the following information for those of you who would like to refute Mr. Fournier's statements and insights. Contact the Associated Press … Kathleen Carroll (Fournier’s boss) at kcarroll@ap.org or (212) 621-1500. Be POLITE, but be FIRM. Let them know that you don’t want to see them serve as stenographers and amplifiers for pure spin by the McCain campaign.

GravatarBut Obama should go negative, strongly negative in this campaign, because that is honestly the single, undeniable, overwhelming reason to elect him: he is not a Republican, he never supported Bush, he voted against the war. Meanwhile Republicans were doing dispicable things that must be brought into the open. They cannot be ignored.

Obama has to expose these people. He and Biden are now in the best possible position to do it -- openly and on the record. Even if the Obama/Biden ticket loses the election, exposing those criminals as the deeply corrupt, anti-American traitors they are, will be remembered.

Nullifying the power of Karl Rove and his vile henchmen is the first (and possibly most important) task of Obama’s presidency. It is immaterial that this crisis is occurring before the election. It has to be done. There is no choice.
