the way the AIG/LA transit deal is described in the article makes it appear that all risk and all costs were on the public. The "investors" got a 100% guarantee of money back plus a tax limited solid revenue stream. AIG got a bunch of fees and, apparently, no penalty if they defaulted.

Some people never grow up:
A 33-year-old woman accused of stealing her daughter's identity to attend high school and join the cheerleading squad has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
Wendy Brown faces a felony identity theft charge after enrolling in a Wisconsin high school as her 15-year-old daughter, who lives in Nevada with Brown's mother.
According to a federal complaint, Brown attended one day of classes, practiced with the cheerleading squad and went to a party at the coach's house.
Brown also faces theft and forgery charges from an unrelated case, where she is accused of collecting money for an apartment she didn't have authority to rent.
She could face up to nearly 13 years in prison if convicted of all charges.

If anything can awake astonishment, and inflame our gratitude, it must be that mystery of love, God manifested in our nature, and made man, to bleed and die for our salvation. That He should condescend to be sold for thirty shekels of silver, that is, for three pounds fifteen shillings of our money; to be apprehended and condemned as a malefactor; to be crowned with piercing thorns; to be scourged at the bloody pillar; to bear His cross; to be numbered with transgressors; to be reviled by ruffian soldiers, and a merciless populace; to be torn with tormenting nails; and pierced with a hostile spear; and suspended on the ignominious tree, between heaven and earth, as unworthy of either, though He was the maker and preserver of both. What thought can reach, what tongue can tell, the infinite riches of His love to man, that induced Him freely to undergo all this, only to make him happy! Nay, He not only freely underwent it, but even longed for the time of His crucifixion to come — “I have a baptism, says He, a baptism of sufferings to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished?”

AP bloviates on Obama Presidency
http://ap.google.com/article/ALe...Ycw-
AQD93SVH8O0 If Elected ... How would a President Obama govern?
By JENNIFER LOVEN a new White House under Democrat Obama would operate much like the current one under President Bush.
Think discipline, efficiency and secrecy. These are hallmarks of Obama's campaign, just as they have been for the last eight years in the leak-proof, tightly managed Bush administration.
Aides are expected to be both tightlipped and tight-knit. They get a "no drama" speech upon hire. And even if that rule is violated, histrionic disagreements over strategy, policy or personality are expected to stay behind closed doors, and they actually do. Most events come off like clockwork.
Obama's style as a candidate predicts a CEO-style president, one who delegates rather than micromanages.
It's the same model as for Bush, the nation's first MBA president. It derives in part from something the two men have in common: natural political gifts that set them on a path to the White House that took shortcuts around much government experience. That means policy experts are needed for heavy lifting.
Obama, like Bush, relies most on a small, hard-to-penetrate inner circle. It's been a successful formula, but can irk power players in his party and in Congress, who sometimes see Team Obama as too insular.
Regardless, Zelizer said, Obama will need to guard against abandoning his natural caution to launch a spree of legislative action right off the bat. Going too far to please Democrats excited about finally being in control again of both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue could risk a backlash from the public, he said.
In all these things, Obama has reached big. That means he would need to spend a fair amount of time early on building bridges to Capitol Hill. Working with a Congress controlled by his own party doesn't guarantee he'd easily get what he wants.

In all these years, they have no interest with all this controversy about Bill Ayers, they have no desire to talk to him. In the long run, the American people can have confidence that our economy will bounce back.
John Maynard Keynes:
But this long run is a misleading guide to current affairs. In the long run we are all dead. Economists set themselves too easy, too useless a task if in tempestuous seasons they can only tell us that when the storm is long past the ocean is flat again.

The only people who believe otherwise are certain American liberals – because they are the most ignorant people on the planet, and because they have never had to live under it.
But never have the communists felt closer to achieving their goal than they are now.
Make no mistake, they are waiting behind Barack Obama, panting and slavering at the prospect of taking over every branch of government, systematically dismantling the economic system that has provided our country with unprecedented prosperity and dissolving the procedural protections that have insulated us from the oppression, starvation, despair, and death that has accompanied communism and every other form of tyranny.

Some early W.Va. voters angry over switched votes
Jackson County touch-screens switched votes, 3 residents say
By Paul J. Nyden
Staff writer
At least three early voters in Jackson County had a hard time voting for candidates they want to win.
Virginia Matheney and Calvin Thomas said touch-screen machines in the county clerk's office in Ripley kept switching their votes from Democratic to Republican candidates.
"When I touched the screen for Barack Obama, the check mark moved from his box to the box indicating a vote for John McCain," said Matheney, who lives in Kenna.
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.

it was part of a report on anger among mccain supporters (really, as far as i can see, it is among PALIN supporters - mccain seems uncomfortably carried in the tide)
a bunch of small stories rather than a single klan rally. the first was a bunch of palin supporters going into the venue in western pa where she was speaking - one carrying a monkey doll with an obama label, one shouted "why don't you kill another baby, you bastard", another angrily yelling out something about "barack mohammed hussein obama" - a lot of general nastiness.
second story was clips of a halloween ghost decoration hanging from a noose with an obama bumper sticker plastered on it, along with a yellow star of david and "hussein" written across it.
third story was the "obama dollar" sent out by the leader of a republican women's group in ca - $10 in obama food stamps, a caricature of obama surrounded by pics of a bucket of chicken, a koolaid pitcher, a watermelon and a rack of ribs. cnn interviewed the woman's husband and daughter, shown today - they are pretty disgusting. q: what does the bucket of chicken mean? husband a: what does spaghetti and meatballs mean?
there was more, but you get the drift.

Considering Barack Obama as a candidate for a top secret security clearance status with a full array of compartmented clearances, one has to be cognizant of the fact that there is considerable evidence of associations and even assistance from individuals with past criminal records or who have expressed anti-American beliefs. Obviously admitted domestic terrorists William Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dohrn, as well as recently convicted felon, Antoin "Tony" Rezko, fall into this category.
There is no possibility that a Top Secret clearance would be awarded to a member of the Armed Forces whose background included such associations. An intelligence service clearance for the handling of highly classified material would be totally out of the question.

The Bible, in its entirety, has no mistakes. It is flawless because God wrote it--and He is flawless. It is not only infallible in total, but also inerrant in its parts. Proverbs 30:5-6 says, "Every word of God is tested. . . . Do not add to His words or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar." Every word of God is pure and true. The Bible is the only book that never makes a mistake--everything it says is the truth.

more from the same cnn transcript:
SANCHEZ: Hey, welcome back. I'm Rick Sanchez here in the world headquarters of CNN, a lot of stories that we're trying to bring you at this hour. First of all, let's try and bring you up to date on this situation that we have been talking about the -- well, xenophobia may be the best way to describe it, because there is now also an investigation in Clayton County, Georgia. This is an area just outside of Atlanta where we understand that local residents and Obama supporters have been receiving hate mail, to the point where the Secret Service has now been called in and is investigating.
We are being joined on the phone now by Mike Brooks. He is our security analyst and law enforcement expert. Mike, I know you have looked into this somewhat. How prevalent is this in this area?
MIKE BROOKS, CNN SECURITY ANALYST: Well, Rick, we really haven't had too much of this happen.
But right around the same time as these letters that we're showing right now in my neighborhood, here in Kirkwood, in the city of Atlanta, there were also some racist letters distributed in mailboxes, on the street, put on people's cars.
And to just kind of give you a flavor of the letters we had, now, they did not target any Barack Obama or any gays or Asian. It was all basically against African-Americans. And here is just the first line and last line of this letter, Rick, to kind of give you a flavor.
It says: "To the" -- and then it is the N-word -- Rick, that keep breaking into all the honest people's homes that actually work for a living here in Kirkwood, F off." And then there is some more vile and it goes -- there's some really nasty stuff. And then the last paragraph is very disturbing.
It says: "The next time you come into my yard or walk down my street, I will be taking aim, shooting and asking questions later, not that anyone would miss you. I do have a few shallow graves that need filling."
Now, I can tell you that the Atlanta Police Department and particularly (INAUDIBLE) who I was out with last weekend looking to try to find out the source of these letters in our community, they are taking this very seriously and looking at this as a possible hate crime, and so that it is under investigation right now.

Indian summer, that enchanted time, unfolded it golden, dreamy haze over the Delaware village. The forest blazed with autumn fire, the meadows bloomed in rich luxuriance. All day low down in the valleys hung a purple smoke which changed, as the cool evening shades crept out of the woodland, into a cloud of white mist. All day the asters along the brooks lifted golden-brown faces to the sun as if to catch the waning warmth of his smile. All day the plains and forest lay in melancholy repose. The sad swish of the west wind over the tall grass told that he was slowly dying away before the enemy, the north wind. The sound of dropping nuts was heard under the motionless trees. Z.G.
