Gravatarand here

GravatarI think Atrios oughta take all this blogging energy and go finish my yardwork.

GravatarTHREADKILLER!

poop
.

GravatarScrew them!

GravatarScrews, threads... hmm.
.

GravatarAtrios, it's midnight. Shouldn't you be having dinner about now?

Gravatarwe had a fair local paper here and the Applebee's man didnot like it.
So he started another one and gave the paper away untill he ran the first one out of town.
Yes he is a repug

Gravatarfrom below

(think he's blogging wirelessly at the back of the reception?)
Jim

He told us we were on our own for three days and we invited everyone from the neighborhood over for a keg party. I think he was deliberately setting us up. Entrapment!

GravatarEditors: Hey, we don't do news until it's over! You think we're going to report on a missing white woman before she's missing? You think we are going to report on the justification for the war BEFORE the invasion? Are you insane?

Gravatarhey peeps

GravatarConfusing "editorial boards" with the rest of the newspaper isn't really helpful or fair.

My guess is that the board is thinking that they'll specifically be thinking about and talking to candidates closer to the election.

GravatarHelloo, trifecta!
.

GravatarBrain cells and the universe.

GravatarI arrived home from the wedding at 6:15 this morning.

many of the attendees went off in search of after hours clubs which apparently open at 6AM

I do not understand.

GravatarDucks!

GravatarEditors: Hey, we don't do news until it's over! You think we're going to report on a missing white woman before she's missing? You think we are going to report on the justification for the war BEFORE the invasion? Are you insane?

Once again (and then I'm going to go take my nap), editorial boards are generally about opinion pages, not about the news.

Saying they're not ready to write editorials about a congressional campaign doesn't mean they're not going to report on it.

GravatarCertainly true of the CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER.

Gravatarmany of the attendees went of in search of after hours clubs which apparently open at 6AM

I do not understand.

They do things differently over there I suppose.

GravatarYou have been too americanized Atrios. Europe runs on a commie schedule

GravatarOkay, bbl. Maybe.

GravatarBrain cells and the universe.

Interesting.

Though they left out the third dimension.

Pretty freaky in two dimensions though.

GravatarI do not understand.
Atrios

Count yourself among the blessed.

GravatarI spent the day mowing my mother in law's lawn in South Carolina. Almost as fun as southern europe.

GravatarThere was a Robertson discussion on the prior thread. I knee jerk to the charlatan religious businessman version of "Robertson". Only because his sat dishes are about 3 miles from my house.

Who knows, they might have been talking about Cliff Robertson's role in PT 109.

GravatarGannett runs the "local" papers like shit with "we'll take your word for it" placating of the Bush junta

GravatarAtrios, so how was the wedding? Didja have fun?

GravatarWhat's up, gang?

I'm getting hits at my place from playfulswingers.com. It's members only, so sadly I can't figure out why there's a link from there. But it's teh funny.

Gravatar"Led Zeppelin" announces reunion plans, with Jason Bonham on drums.

Man, is that gonna suck.

GravatarI spent the day mowing my mother in law's lawn in South Carolina. Almost as fun as southern europe.
trifecta

Sounds like fun, actually.

Job OK?

GravatarCan I just say how much I'm enjoying seeing Michigan get their collective asses handed to them AGAIN on their own field? Even though Oregon just coughed up the ball deep in Wolverine territory, it's still loads of fun ...

Gravatarafter hours clubs which apparently open at 6AM

I do not understand.

I am sorry to have to say this to you, but you may as well hear it from a friend: this is a sign that you are getting old. And, I would know.

GravatarYeah job is doing ok. The lawn would have been fun if it wasn't 104 outside.

GravatarI'm getting hits at my place from playfulswingers.com. It's members only, so sadly I can't figure out why there's a link from there. But it's teh funny.

ZOMG it's that efficiency person sending you a message! Not particularly efficiently, but still!

GravatarCan I just say how much I'm enjoying seeing Michigan get their collective asses handed to them AGAIN on their own field?

Michaigan has been playing top rate I-AA ball so far.

GravatarThe local paper here is so republican that the front page looks like the editorial page.

GravatarIn this very important essay Starhawk tells the story of how Western industrial society began with the witchhunts of the 16th and 17th century which not only expropriated the land from the peasants but also replaced the intuitive knowledge of women with the Scientific Rationalism of Bacon and Descartes, robbing us of our "souls" by creating a sharp dichotomy between ourselves and reality and thus legitimizing our desecration and exploitation of one another and of Nature.

GravatarSince writing this essay, Starhawk has become one of the leaders of the anti-corporate globalization movement, creating transformative and spiritual demonstrations that involve poetry, dance, singing and fellowship. She has also been a key organizer of the affinity groups which closed down the WTO in the 1999 Battle of Seattle and since then have mobilized against FTAA and other administrative bodies of global capitalism.

GravatarSinfonian,
No matter how well the Ducks do, the friggin pollsters and bobbleheads will say it's just because Michigan sucks, and The Usual Suspects will again be ranked higher.

GravatarI see A-man quietly added two more blogs to his blogroll, after NToddler.

Well, then I figure I probably have about 10-15 years before Blast Off! has a shot.

GravatarMeanwhile, in the last two decades women all over the country who have never heard of Starhawk are returning to the community instead of pursuing careers in the power structure like Condoleeza Rice, Hillary Clinton and Carly Fiorina. Instead of working to produce wealth and individual careers, they are building caring environments for young people in our inner cities. In the process they are helping to transform our communities and cities from centers of despair into centers of hope. This is what Maria Mies, the German eco-feminist, calls a feminist perspective on Work, as contrasted with a capitalist or a socialist perspective.

GravatarBlastoff has a shot of falling in the ocean.

GravatarI must tell Ntoddler. he will be crushed.

Gravatarthe ntoddler link actually goes to "goat molesters monthly"

GravatarPerhaps I'm misreading happy balance, but does that sound a bit like "little women should stay home and do that local stuff and not worry their pretty heads about national politics"?

GravatarSinfonian,
No matter how well the Ducks do, the friggin pollsters and bobbleheads will say it's just because Michigan sucks, and The Usual Suspects will again be ranked higher.
ErinPDX

Okay, obviously Michigan sucks ass, but the Ducks are still blowing them out in their own place. If App State beat 'em by two, it's still something if Oregon continues to blow 'em out (32-7, late 3rd qtr, for those not watching).

Plus, anyone watching would say Oregon is playing pretty damn well. Their QB is impressive! (Of course, at the same time Washington is whipping up on Boise State, so who knows?)

Gravatarmany of the attendees went off in search of after hours clubs which apparently open at 6AM

so says the man who made a funny face the last time i asked him about dancing. you have no one to blame but yourself, a-man.

Gravatarhappy balance,

Yes, I think we've all heard of Starhawk.

ql,

Still waiting for email.

GravatarI haven't had the energy to blog since I have been back to work. I am kinda stunned that Atrios can blog well on vacation. Soros should pay him more.

Gravatarthe ntoddler link actually goes to "goat molesters monthly"
Atrios

Well, yes, of course it does. I didn't mean it went to a blog, since he doesn't have one.

Gravatarthe man who made a funny face the last time i asked him about dancing.

Atrios, it's worse than I feared. If you didn't want to go dancing w/ chidyke, you're not getting older, you may already be dead. Please check your pulse!

GravatarSsshhhh! Now remember everyone. If Auntie GWPDA comes back, don't mention that she's responsible for Dr. Black taking away the rockets. She gets very upset.

GravatarFormer U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has joined the Hoover Institution at Stanford University as a visiting fellow and will serve on a task force focused on issues pertaining to ideology and terror, the California think tank said on Friday.rnrnRumsfeld was one of the top Bush administration officials involved in responding to the Sept. 11 attacks and subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Gravatarpac 10 is the best conference this year. It will be proven by bowl time.

GravatarOregon touchdown -- again.

GravatarBlastoff has a shot of falling in the ocean.
smalfish, free at last

Nah, Teh Wang™ won't fall in. That's California. We'll just gradually be overtaken as sea level rises until Atlanta is a coastal city ...

Gravatarwheeeeeeeeeee

GravatarDay-amn.

Now Oregon 39, Michigan 7.

I can feel the schadenfreude already ...

GravatarShe gets very upset.

She went out to her pool and was doing :cannonball: :cannonball: :cannonball:

GravatarWhat does the DOJ have to do with Net Neutrality? Why do they have a say in it?

GravatarShe went out to her pool and was doing :cannonball: :cannonball: :cannonball:
Hecate,

a water ballet about Waterloo?

GravatarA sports director's only edict:

Never pan for more than a millisecond at the cheerleaders. Find a guy in a windbreaker who is scowling and keep the cameras on him.

GravatarNever pan for more than a millisecond at the cheerleaders. Find a guy in a windbreaker who is scowling and keep the cameras on him.

If that's not available, find sports figure blowing nose on ground.

GravatarMichigan better fight back. This blowout is making Appalachain State's victory look bad.

GravatarI think I'll switch over to South Carolina-Georgia now ...

Gravatarnotre dame is teh suck.

GravatarGilly Gonzylon: Never pan for more than a millisecond at the cheerleaders. Find a guy in a windbreaker who is scowling and keep the cameras on him.

Big Pharma insists on that. Can't have any old geezers believing they can get a chubby without a pill!
.

GravatarI really should be studying Shakespeare ...

GravatarStill waiting for email.
Hecate

email me at quiltsquito@operamail.com and I'll return from my real addy tomorrow. Almost time for dinner now. Real gourmet meal here tonight. Hot dogs and salad.

Atrios, I get up at 4:00 a.m.

GravatarOn Michigan's getting shat upon: one thing I've noticed is the influence TV scheduling (and, basically, time zones) on polling.

If you play most of your games in Pacific time, unless you're USC/Cal and get scheduled for a national audience, then you're not going to be noticed, because the games are after east-coast coaches' bedtimes.

Mediocre Eastern Time teams get noticed more than decent west coast teams, and the bowl games are decided on being noticed. Electability, if you like. Dumb.

GravatarSadly, what passes for a "local paper" here in Arlington is a rag put out mainly by the real estate industry to sell real estate.

GravatarWe find all this talk of politics far too uncivil and partisan. Fankly, it gives us the vapors. Isn't this country divided enough? Why, it's practically like the '60s. The 1860's, we mean.

Please confine any public discussion of politics to the Letters to the Editor page, and to the months of January through November of a Presidential election year.

Thank you.

Gravatarhec, i'm just jealous that atrios is within striking distance of ibiza and i'm not. that's a place i can "understand."

haloscum doesn't want me to play and i have work, so later, taters.

GravatarIt can't be GWPDA''s fault about the :rocket: thingie, we all did paragraphs of them.

GravatarI really should be studying Shakespeare ...

We all should be!

"That time of year thou may'st in me behold,
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang..."

"I am not what I am." Iago to Roderigo. Perhaps the most perfect (and overlooked) statement of evil in all of literature.

GravatarAtrios - you -do- know where Tacoma, Washington is, right? It's not exactly out there in the mainstream of um, much. Pretty quiet up there in Tacoma.... I wouldn't be real surprised if they were startled by all kinds of suddenly approaching activities. Like, say the Labor Day sales ads. Or Christmas....

Is that the Journal? Is that still around? We used to get that out in Oakton, along with the Post. Feh.

GWPDA, yclept Irate Scholar

I'm surprised they aren't more worried about terrorism, then. All Americans should be, you know.

GravatarI have "Shakespeare for Idiots." I figure if I know who and where and basic plots, that'll be good enough.

GravatarI read three shakespeares.

"I can't remember the titles. The ones where the guy dies at the end."

GravatarPerhaps I'm misreading happy balance, but does that sound a bit like jack.

The Ducks are beating the tar out of Michigan. That has to work in that argument's favor early on, at least.

GravatarHow many local dailies are locally owned? My local is owned by WSj/soon-to-be-Fox.

And yours?

GravatarMine is Gannon-owned but for sale.

GravatarOur local paper in San Luis Obispo, CA, provides us with great op-eds from across the country, like David Brooks, Cal Thomas and Victor Davis-Hanson, as well as liberal Thomas Friedman.

GravatarThis is about the stupidest !@#$$% non-post in Atrios history. Except for the YouTube numbness.

Coherent much? Yeah, scream to the choir, let them sing hosanna's to the ... holy crap.
