GravatarThe happy hour buzz is wearing off....

GravatarI must have strayed into a private comments thread...

GravatarI'm shocked that the Pentagon may have lied.

GravatarNope, you're in the right place.

GravatarI'm sure that Captain Queeg will be sure to fill us in on his ample military expertise to tell us how the story cannot be true, if the civilian leadership says it isn't.

GravatarNo surprise at all.

I give this poor captain a week until his career is utterly fucked.

And all because chimpy and his merry band of assholes are fucking incompetents.

As long as the Captain in question doesn't reveal himself, he cannot be ratfucked.

I don't believe, that if found out, it would be his career that gets fucked.

GravatarEvening, all.

Been away since a while, i.e. Thursday.

Anything irksome going on I should know about?

GravatarU wanted doggies, so I gotz one:

Hope it's not hungry.

GravatarI am sure all those "moderate" pro-military Republicans are shocked, simply shocked, that the Pentagon is just as professional and apolitical as the US Attorneys are.

GravatarThe Pentagon 'inserting itself into the civilian election process'? In AMerica? Who'd a thunk it?

Merciful heavens...

GravatarI'm really fucking appalled that the Bush shills are enabled by Warner. There's not one Republican that has an ounce of class.

GravatarIf that Rove story about the pictures is true...

GravatarI don't believe, that if found out, it would be his career that gets fucked.

Perhaps, but it's that lingering cloud of a threat that keeps people from coming forward. They think they'll get chewed up and spat out, when in fact the first one who does it now might be a real hailed hero.

Of course, after the past 7 years, no one wants to take that first step.

Gravatarhey steve--anything worth seeing?

Finally got around to 'Minority Report' this evening, which was well worth seeing and thinking about. And Spielberg's view of childhood is rather more complicated than I'd thought, between 'AI' and 'Minority Report'...

GravatarThat would be just so unbelievable if the Dever Dem Covention rocked the house with Steam's old hit "Na na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye".

To use the killfile function you have to use Firefox as your browser. If you do not, you may obtain a copy at this URL:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Once this program is installed, you will need to have an add-on program called GREASEMONKEY.

This program is available at this URL:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/...refox/addon/ 748

Once you have installed this program you will then have to install KILLFILE. This program can be obtained at this URL:

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/3218

Hope this helps.

Depends on what you censor. For instance, there's a person here who posts long quotes on how to comb horses or how the dental care of ancient Mesopotamians worked out. Then there is the poop troll late at night, telling detailed stories about the size and smell of shit. It's kind of nice to killfile those.

GravatarHi folks:

I may seem strange. But at the end of a long hard day, I wanted to come here and say hi to my friends.

I'll probably write some more about this experience. I kind of want to post the eulogy I gave for my dad, but it has lots of specific identifying info.
On the other hand I realized that having a parent die is not unique to me. Maybe I write something with a few details removed, but that makes me sad because I can't say who I really am and who my Dad was. On the other hand maybe I can write about what things we all feel. Too soon to decide. As Data would say "Processing. Processing."

So many have written nice things to me I am truly humbled by your kindness.

My dad was a wonderful man, but I feel I'm still needing to learn some lessons from him.

Friends of my father completely filled the church. His ability to connect to people and his willingness to help others was astounding.

it is so nice to read you all again and not focus on sad things.

Take your time and share what you feel you'd like to share. Sit and relax a bit among friends. We have all been wishing you as much good will as we can muster.

It is not easy and the feelings are so strong that there is no way to describe them other than by experiencing them - and each will have their turn at the dais.

In a way, they challenge us to organize our thoughts against their bullshit. I mean, every time I hear some crap from one of them, I bust open the wikipedia or the Google and find a bunch of data which disputes them. Just sayin'.

GravatarIs Uncle Blodge here?
My dad had a great love of education. One thing I always do when I run in to my old teachers is to tell them how important they work is and what it meant to me, (who wasn't always the brightest student, but I did like to talk in class )

Today after the lunch following the funeral I went to the school that was attached to the church and talked to my social studies teacher and thanked her for her work. She is teaching math now so I'm going to send her a couple of copies of some books from my favorite fun math writer John Allen Paulos. (He's very funny).
It then told some of the students what a great teacher she was, what I do for a living and how math is used in Silicon Valley. I name dropped some of the people and companies I've worked with (hopefully to impress them)
I might not be much, but I wanted them to know how important education is.

GravatarTime to make DWD angry. The Times, writing about wind power development in Texas:

“Texas could be a model for the entire nation,” said Patrick Woodson, a senior development executive with E.On, a German utility operating here.

The quaint windmills of old have been replaced by turbines that stand as high as 20-story buildings, with blades longer than a football field and each capable of generating electricity for small communities. powerful turbines are able to capture power even when the wind is relatively weak, and they help to lower the cost per kilowatt hour.

Much of the boom in the United States is being driven by foreign power companies with experience developing wind projects, including Iberdrola of Spain, Energias de Portugal and Windkraft Nord of Germany. Foreign companies own two-thirds of the wind projects under construction in Texas.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/2.../23wind.html? hp

It's worth wondering why foreign expertise is sought for this work, when so much manufacturing and engineering capacity in this country has gone fallow. Europe, in particular, is hardly a low-wage, union-unfriendly developing-world kind of place...

Something I will never forget.

My parents were married 28 years when they divorced in 1980. All the years of drinking finally caught up with him and his personality completely went to hell. He was verbally abusive with her and us kids.

My Mom said she felt nothing.

Can you imagine....how someone could KILL all feelings a spouse ever had for them?

GravatarJake in Milwaukee, I'm so sorry. Sometimes the pain is just too much to bear.

GravatarUncle Blodge, Urban Teacher

You know I was thinking about you too when I did that. I have a more personal relationship with you as an adult so I can see a bit about what being a teacher is for an adult.

I also made a point of complimenting her in front of her students. I was reminded about Tom Hanks thanking one of his teachers when he won and Oscar.

GravatarMy mom committed suicide. This is the first time I've said anything publicly about it. I don't know how she'd feel about me saying this, but there it is. Just when I get to the bottom of the pain of her loss, I find more.

Oh, I'm sorry, that's really hard.

GravatarI didn't feel that bad. Felt a little sorry for him that he had ruined every relationship he'd ever been in.

Pretty pathetic.
fourlegsgood, gots torch du U?

Sounds like my ex husband.

GravatarFuck- someone come play with this cat.

GravatarSorry to hear that, Jake.

GravatarJake,

I'm sorry that you had to go through that. Suicide is tough enough...let alone losing a parent.

I've gone through some stuff where I had to be hospitalized. It ain't great stuff, obviously.

That's so sad. At my mom's funeral, my stepdad, who'd been divorced from my mom for 7 years, broke down into a mess. Cried and cried and cried. Said she was the love of his life.

My Ex did that. ain't hard.

just shit on someone. mock them, treat them poorly. fail to support them while demanding support.

do that for a few years and there you go

Gravatar1Watt: I take 'Scientific American', and posted that one up myself. Off the shelf solar technology, with subsidies of under $10 billion per year for a decade or two, giving energy independence by 2050.

Gravatarokay i've been lurking and now am tearing up. my dad was hostile and snide to me the whole time i was growing up in his house. he either ignored me or said somthing snide. i made very good grades, never got in trouble, and just couldn't get him to interact with me. a few years ago he helped me out when i was hospitalized but since then he's gone back to being selfish and snide and i've told mom i'm done for good. i've spent too many years in therapy and taking antidepressants and i just can't let him hurt me any more.

Funny, with all the shit that my dad put us through, all of us kids were devastated when he died.

I intend to go one further than my Mom.

If my ex goes first, I'm not going anywhere NEAR his funeral.

GravatarTEBB, your last comment was exactly what I was referring to. Therapy can really help in coming to terms with those feelings.

GravatarJake: the classic line I learned in psych in medical school back in 1971 or so was the Freudian take, that suicide is the murder of the introject. Struck me at the time as awfully glib; most of us are that angry sometimes. The explanations are always after the fact, always a bit unsatisfactory, and the act leaves us here a little angry, a lot sad, more alone, and troubled at the essential terrible mystery, the idea that we're really not sure, deep in our hearts, why one of us did it and not ourselves.

And all any of can do is the best we can. All the best...

You can't make someone love you....especially when they are not capable of love.

Some people aren't.

GravatarNo one had any idea my mom was sick. I lived with her, she was my best friend, and the rock of the family. When I found her, I was beside myself. Didn't even know who I was anymore.

By no means minimizing it, but that's what depressed people try and do...they hide it.

And I can only imagine what it would be like finding a parent like that. You're obviously a strong enough person that you can still carry on; but it must be rough. You really come across as a person who's got their shit together, so you must be doing something right.

GravatarWhen my mother died of cancer in 2006, she was wearing the diamond pendant my father had given her 35 years before. He'd been dead since 1983, and she had had two longterm relationships thereafter, but he obviously was the love of her life.

That's precisely why I share my stories, not only here but in meatspace, too. I know many out there are struggling with similar things and think they're going through it alone. I did. They think there's a stigma about being hospitalized or taking anti-depressants. I did. They think there's no one who would understand. I did.

But all those "thoughts" are wrong, and I don't mind using myself as an example.

Gravatar what i could have done to get him to love me.

Nothing.

Because it has nothing to do with you.

He's the one who is broken. It's hard, but you just have to believe that.

Is it weird that I'm not angry at her? We've had a terrible life the last 15 years. My grandmother, her mother, had Alzheimer's and we took care of her at home for 10 years. She died miserably and then my sister, her daughter, got sick with schizophrenia. It was too much. She was done. I miss her terribly, I get angry at the mess left behind, but I can't help but understand what happened.

Gravatar"Very nice."

Highlight of my day coming out of the subway and seeing that

GravatarBy no means minimizing it, but that's what depressed people try and do...they hide it.

They don't want to "burden" other people.

GravatarYeah. Only you will have to face the empty bit and live with it. I mean accept that loss of love.

Yeah, but she never had it.

And the relief she'll feel when she stops blaming herself will change her life.

For the better.

Parents blow. Seriously.

GravatarI've been looking with envy at a friends victory brand motorcycle. I don't know if that would be what I'd want, but cycles look fun. When I lived in Montana the practicality of a motorcycle never seemed to be enough to bother. Here in AZ, the only thing that might keep me from wanting to ride one would be the mid-day sun in the summer. Otherwise the weather is about perfect.

I will, though, say that anger is something I've seen just about everybody go through as they face losses, whether or not it's overt, and it's often displaced and a source of guilt. Used to tell folk to wait for it, it'll happen more likely than not, and then to remember.

GravatarHOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Robin Moore, who wrote several books, including “The French Connection” and “The Green Berets,” died on Tuesday in southwestern Kentucky. He was 82.

He was co-writer of “The Ballad of the Green Berets,” which became the signature song of the Special Forces unit.

Which is perhaps the worst song in the history of the universe

In 1986 Mr. Moore pleaded guilty to selling fraudulent literary tax shelters. The government charged that Mr. Moore published books and sold the royalty rights to promoters and investors at inflated prices based upon arbitrary and unrealistic values.

I hear ya Uncle Blodge. I'm bi-polar. Heck, some days I don't know who I am.

Hey! Who said that?

GravatarHere's a famous Philip Larkin poem, with which I don't agree entirely:

They fuck you up your mom and dad
They may not mean to, but they do;
They give you all the faults they had,
And add some new ones just for you.

They were fucked up in their time
By fools in old style hats and coats,
Who half the time were sloppy stern,
And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man,
It deepens like a coastal shelf,
Get out as quickly as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

It's weird. I've watched someone close die of a degenerative disease. It was terrible, and I'm only 28 years old, but I thought that would be the defining moment of my life, watching my grandmother die. But when it happened, it was strangely peaceful, weight-uplifting. It felt complete, over. When this happened, it wasn't at all like that. It was defeating, immeasurably deflating. There was nothing comforting or peaceful about it.

Okay. I'm done sharing. Too depressing. Now, Pantload say anything stupid today?

That person's suggestion was that why don't those folks just suck it up, or failing that, do what they did when they were unhappy, smoke pot.

If I were physically in reach, I would have slapped that person in the face. Obviously someone incapable of understanding that there's a significant difference between feeling blue once and awhile and major depression.

GravatarEBB: I don't like his assertion that the cycle can't be broken save by not having children. I don't think that's true.

Dick Martin used to say that.

GravatarPITTSBURGH - People will increasingly interact with computers using speech or touch screens rather than keyboards, Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates said.

"It's one of the big bets we're making," he said during the final stop of a farewell tour before he withdraws from the company's daily operations in July.

In five years, Microsoft expects more Internet searches to be done through speech than through typing on a keyboard, Gates told about 1,200 students and faculty members Thursday at Carnegie Mellon University.

So wrong. He's no longer part of the cubicle work world.

My dad, for one. His father beat the crap out of him. He would never touch me and my brother. By mother broke lots of wooden spoons over our asses, though.

GravatarProf Wombat,

Thanks for the Larkin. I escaped from much of my family when I was sixteen. And have never looked back. Escaping got me a college education, a PhD, and a wonderful wife. Most of my brothers? Not so lucky.

GravatarOkay, one last thing to say about this. My mom was the person who got me into this website. She went by the handle "Wolf" or "lonewolf"... not sure if you all recall that, or if she even posted here often. But she was the person who pointed me in Atrios' direction. So, here I am, and have been for several years.

I count on it. Boy's gotta laugh sometimes.

GravatarMay I just say, I'm not sorry for talking about my dad. I think we need to feel sad and grieve. I will also say that my dad was very funny. And I think I'm kind of funny too. My humor doesn't really translate on the page all the time. JeffCO and Gilly are funnier writers but in person I can bring the funny pretty regularly. I did stand up in San Francisco for a few years and got to the level of an opening act and did some "corporate comedy" where I got paid to be funny. So when it came time for the eulogy my mom turned to me and said, "Spocko, say some thing funny."
Wow. No pressure or anything.
But I did it. People laughed and cried. My dad was the one who often eulogized his friends and I felt that it was something that I could do for him and my mom. I cried writing it but I didn't reciting it in Church. My Dad was with me there.

I never said thank you for that

May angels lead you in
Hear you me my friends

May angels lead you in

GravatarLove's in fact worth a great deal, perhaps everything. Time for your agnostic correspondent to drag out 1 Corinthians 13:

1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

GravatarAuden's greatest poem, stupidly slandered by Orwell and rejected by the old Auden.

All I have is a voice
To undo the folded lie,
The romantic lie in the brain
Of the sensual man-in-the-street
And the lie of Authority
Whose buildings grope the sky:
There is no such thing as the State
And no one exists alone;
Hunger allows no choice
To the citizen or the police;
We must love one another or die.

Sallyh, Grandmere Poissonniere

NOT true. It IS worth a lot! You know I called some "in person friends" when my dad died, but I also wanted to come here and talk. I wrote emails to some folks that I'm also close to. Words have power, your personalities come through.

Sallyh. I know how much you go through. I read how much you struggle with your daughter's poor life choices and so sending your love MEANS something to me. It counts. It just seems that you are words in a thread but there is a living breathing person behind those words. Someone who lives challenges that I just can't begin imagine. And you continue as best you can. That is courage in a difficult situation.

So THANK YOU. I'm honored by your support and good wishes. As I am by all of your good wishes.
When Alora died I wrote a post about it and how much she meant to Sarah Deere. And how we were in support of Sarah and honors the good child she was. I didn't know her, but I did.

This connection here is not, "the neighbor coming over with a cake", but it IS something. It is our modern sending a card, giving the other a note, "We share in your life and in your pain, we will laugh and grieve and gripe with you." And we are linked in so many ways. I"m sure the freepers have their tender moments, but I doubt is is anything like us, there is too much hate and anger for the heart and humor I see here every day.

I might have been his son.
And I remember the musician
Faltering over his fiddle

Every old man I see
In October-coloured weather
Seems to say to me
"I was once your father."

GravatarOne Watt, great video but you need a ghetto steady cam. You can buy the comercal ones and they do work, but all you really need is to mount a weight with enough length from the camera to slow down motion jitters.

I've built one, and what mine was were some PVC pipe, a camera mount at the top, and a weight (a brake disk from some sort of auto painted with tractor paint) bolted to the bottom of the pipe, with one horizontal pipe mid way to help to hold it.

Much simpler than the collection of parallelograms and springs that the commercial ones are made of.

GravatarNEW YORK (AP) — Jennifer Lopez gave birth to twins early Friday, making the singer and husband Marc Anthony the parents of a boy and a girl after one of pop music's most closely watched pregnancies.

Lopez representative Simon Fields told People magazine the babies were born shortly after midnight on New York's Long Island, with the 11-pound, 7-ounce girl arriving first, followed by her 16-pound brother minutes later. The location was not identified.

GravatarIsrael Defense Forces soldiers arrested a senior operative of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in the Ein Beit el Ma refugee camp in the West Bank town of Nablus, Israel Radio reported on Saturday.

Palestinian witnesses told Israel Radio that the contingent of troops surrounded the building in which the suspect, Majdi Mabruka, took refuge, and used an explosive charge to break through the entrance. Israeli authorities have sought Mabruka's arrest for a number of years, during which the PFLP operative successfully eluded the grasp of security forces. In one incident a year and a half ago, Mabruka was wounded by IDF gunfire, according to Israel Radio.

Significant detachments of IDF soldiers were also observed operating in the West Bank town of Tul Karm late Friday night, Palestinians told Israel Radio.

GravatarA group of Palestinian militants who walked out of a Palestinian Authority prison in the West Bank town of Nablus on Thursday returned to jail voluntarily, a Palestinian security official said Friday.

The prisoners, members of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, had been involved in fighting against the IDF in recent months and were hiding in Nablus' old city, the Kasba. Some six weeks ago, the group turned itself in to the PA, following a comprehensive IDF operation in the Kasba.

The IDF agreed to let the militants, who are wanted by Israel, stay in the Palestinian prison on condition that the Palestinian security forces keep them incarcerated and deny them weapons and contact with terror organizations until Israel pardons them.

So far, however, Israel has refused to include the men in the pardon agreement for Fatah fighters, under which Palestinians give up their arms in return for an Israeli amnesty.

Thursday afternoon the entire group broke out of prison, apparently with the help of their Palestinian wardens. One of the escaped prisoners is Mahdi Abu Ghazale, commander of the Al-Aqsa Brigades' Night Horsemen.

Ghazale announced Thursday that the group had decided to leave after the prison authorities reneged on the conditions they had agreed on when they turned themselves in. Ghazale and his group were set to hold a news conference in Nablus but apparently canceled, fearing for their
safety.

Palestinian journalists who visited Jneid Prison recently reported that the militants had been kept in real prison conditions. They had mobile phones but were not allowed to contact militant organizations and their calls were being monitored.

Among the other fugitives are Omar Akub, Ala Akub, and Sufian Kandil. PA officials have tried to persuade the militants to turn themselves in.

An Israeli defense source said that as far as Israel knew, only nine militants had broken out of the prison. The IDF warned the PA that if it did not capture the escapees within 24 hours the army would take action against them, as at least some of them are seen as a risk to Israel's security.

Thursday Jan 18, 2007 23:02:32 EST

A letter from about 1,000 active-duty, Guard and reserve members calling for Congress to end the war in Iraq was delivered to Capitol Hill on Tuesday.

Rep. James McGovern, D-Mass., who accepted what in legal terms is known as an appeal for redress — because service members are prohibited from petitioning Congress — said the call for an immediate end to U.S. military operations in Iraq will be turned over to the clerk of the House of Representatives and published in the Congressional Record so it can be read by all members of Congress.

The letter contains just three sentences: “As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq. Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price. It is time for U.S. troops to come home.”

GravatarIn 1918, certain remains of Geronimo were stolen in a grave robbery. Three members of the Yale secret society of Skull and Bones served as Army volunteers at Fort Sill during World War I; one of those three members was Prescott Bush, father of the forty-first President of the United States George H. W. Bush and grandfather of George W. Bush. They reportedly stole Geronimo's skull, some bones, and other items, including Geronimo's prized silver bridle, from the Apache Indian Prisoner of War Cemetery. The stolen items were alleged to have been taken to the society's tomb-like headquarters on the Yale University campus, and are supposedly used in rituals practiced by the group, one of which is said to be kissing the skull of Geronimo as an initiation.

GravatarIt ain't over till I say it's over.
-

GravatarIn a contemporary letter discovered by the Yale historian Marc Wortman and published in the Yale Alumni Magazine in 2006, society member Winter Mead wrote to F. Trubee Davison:

The skull of the worthy Geronimo the Terrible, exhumed from its tomb at Fort Sill by your club... is now safe inside the tomb ("tomb" is the building at Yale University's Skull and Bones) and bone together with his well worn femurs, bit and saddle horn.[7]

This prompted the Indian chief's great-grandson, Harlyn Geronimo of Mescalero, New Mexico, to write to President Bush requesting his help in returning the remains:

According to our traditions the remains of this sort, especially in this state when the grave was desecrated ... need to be reburied with the proper rituals ... to return the dignity and let his spirits rest in peace.

Surge in gas prices could be short-lived
By JOHN WILEN, AP Business Writer

::: Gas prices jumped Friday to their highest level since June, a possible preview of what many analysts believe will be a record spike in pump prices this spring.

But the current price surge could be short-lived. While gasoline has risen sharply in recent days in response to oil's dramatic climb to a new record above $101 a barrel, gas supplies have quietly grown to their highest level in 14 years.

"We've got a major supply cushion," said Jim Ritterbusch, president of energy consultancy Ritterbusch and Associates in Galena, Ill.:::

Raise your hands if you believe that the major supply cushion will translate in to significantly lower gas prices at the pump.

Gravatarall that I have seen are pink or pink and white striped. We've just always called them tulip trees. I don't have any either, but there is on in the courtyard where I work and several around the neighborhood.

GravatarMorning peeps.

GravatarGood morning Marcellina, Arabella, and qla.

Cool. Not sure what it is. Was thinking with the description of the bare branches that it might be the african tulip tree or a bombax ceiba (silk tree)

Something like this?

GravatarRuth
Those seem flatter and more star like flowers than what I am seeing around here. I will try to find a picture.

GravatarOr more like this (magnolia)?

Gravataryour last picture didn't load, but I've never seen a magnolia that didn't have leaves.

GravatarRumors of an Ambac bailout, sent the dow surging in the last half hour of trading on Friday. Weeeeeeeeeee
foolme1ns

which is so funny particularly because any bailout is going to come out of our pockets, and won't solve the underlying problems, housing price dive and credit maxed out evrywhere... also loss of buying power by Merkins.

Gravatarmorning, fm1.

Plantsman, that is the "joy" of learning new languages, you think you know enough to converse and then you start stumbling over names of plants, birds, parts of mechanical things...
I have a great picture-lexicon (by Duden) with detailed drawings of things like, oh, ships, bicycles, office interiors, human anatomy... with all the German names for the things in them. It was a lifesaver.

GravatarGood morning ql and Marcellina.

I will spend the day with my mother, as I do every Saturday. I treasure every moment with her.

My today bring us the blessings of peace to the blogosphere.

Gravatarthe pic that foolme1ns put up is what we called tulip trees in D.C., and I think I recall they were at the arboretum there, called 'camellia japonica', no leaves until later.

This is definitely a magnolia.

GravatarArabella, thanks for your comment at my blog!

I never know for sure what interests other people, so I just post what interests me. And then it's fun to see if other people like it or not.

GravatarTulip trees are the tallest trees we have around here. They are magnificent.

GravatarTom, the effects on the rest of the world of our reckless financial community argues for their having restrictions on investment in our lawless sector, Wall /street.

This is the camellia japonica. what you've posted isn't this. The US magnolia usually flowers very early in spring before it has leaves.

GravatarArabella, thanks for peaceful wishes, something tells me that we'll have some few commenters looking to destroy just that. which usually means I move on for awhile.

GravatarMorning, folks. Anyone up for a game?

GravatarTom, that is lovely. I think we don't have those here, and we're in a tropical zone that now includes palm trees, since it was revised upward a few years back.

GravatarMy pleasure, Marcellina.

Who took those photos of the buildings?

pax

GravatarHello moonbats

GravatarDo we need thread?

GravatarWho took those photos of the buildings?

I did, from the passenger seat of a moving car in traffic! Just pointed and hoped for the best. Digital cameras are wonderful things.

GravatarRuth - I walk away when it gets too intense. I love this place. It's not worth losing friendships by posting when I'm angry.

GravatarIt's Molly and mooboo!

This is the magnolia that I am familiar with. The southern magnolia which is an evergreen.

I don't know a lot about different trees. Just what I am familiar with.

GravatarMolly, for dialup, which I am now beyond, it's going to be hard to get on now. so, yeah, pls.

GravatarMolly - yes we do.

GravatarHiya Arabella!

You speak the truth; I've been trying to be better.

Gravatar'morning, cats and kittens! Happy Caturday.

GravatarSheets it is.

GravatarArabella, it seems silly to me to use this place for fighting, when you have such an enjoyable bunch of good minds. yep, have to walk away, come back when its calmed down.

Gravatarthanks, for sheets, Molly!

The photo didn't load for me, but I think you're talking about the magnolia grandiflora.

This would be the magnolia soulangiana
