In Milwaukee? Has the power grid gotten that bad?

Ralphie, what's causing the outages? I hadn't heard of it.

GravatarPower just came back on. Out for 2 hours. Third time this month. Milwaukee is becoming a third world city.

We lose power a lot around here, too.

It's been off 4 times in the last month.

and in my state, i can!

[p.s. truly hate that word. am disappointed that it has been allowed in to regular usage. the only way i think it should be is like in the video: everytime it's uttered, some guy gets kicked in the testicles]

GravatarI think it's overgrown trees shorting out the lines.

Big federal fines for that.

GravatarJP - the trick is that I know the guy that owns the hosting service - have done since I was helping Internet Direct get SBA funding and he was living out of a sleeping bag on ID office floor.  So, I've put the deal to him and I'm sure we'll work things out.  Not a lot of little not-for-profits require that kind of storage memory, so their pricing structure isn't adjusted properly.

GravatarI am still waiting for the arrival of the Maliki story on the front pages of America's papers. So far?

Dead silence. (I think the AP is boycotting the thing. They are Wingnuts of the worst stripe and this makes their man Bush/McShame look bad)

GravatarI'm gonna get back to the (semi)paying job. Catch you all later.

GravatarIpomea battatas "Margarita" Yum!

Wow, you are good! Spot on.

GravatarDWD, at least the White House bot e-mailed the Maliki story -- rather than their response to the story -- to all their little minions.

GravatarIn a not altogether unexpected development, it has been discovered that the footpaths to and from local schools are beginning to experience a positive overall slope, irrespective of the assignment of initial and terminal node designations.

GravatarIt's mental training -- gotta summon those memories to keep them handy.

I'd say he owes you that much! I hope you work out a deal, soon.

GravatarShhhh . . . Don't tell George.

Gravatarplantsman,

Journalistically, this story and the reaction to it is fascinating. Whether it is the time horizons, or the movement by Bush/MCShame to Obama's position on Afghanistan or the Maliki Government's endorsement of Obama's position: the way this is being presented to the public is telling.

If you understand what is going on and are not scared now (assuming you were not scared before) you truly are a fool.

The Dems have to make hay with this story and the way it is being spun: this is the time to WIN and to cut off the head of the hydra and cauterize the stump.

GravatarAgreed, DWD ; and yet the way the story is unfolding has a real perfection to it, I think.

GravatarGWPDA: Tee-hee! Feels gud, don't it?

For what I'm doin', I'll never need more than 1GB of disk (and that includes archiving log data for all customers... I was shocked to learn that the largest install of this software has 4000 users, and is running on one server license w/o breaking a sweat), and my bandwidth needs are modest, too.
.

GravatarAttn: CNN media whore.

Hero Obama does not have to "beef up" his foreigh policy credentials.

Hero Obama is not a Dumbya clone like McStain is. Therefore, Hero Obama is less likely to make mistakes than false-hero McStain is.

Dayton's contracted out the tree whacking service, but they'v been busy the last 2 summers, lines are clear, though the trees look horrible now.

GravatarWho is this General Tim Orizon that Chicken Caesar has put in charge of Iraq?

GravatarI was in Bearden yesterday, going to one of my rare lunches with friends. This area is an older one, lots of nice, friendly, locally-owned shops, backed by great, older neighborhoods. I was amazed at the number of available commercial rental spaces available I saw since I had been there only three weeks ago.

GravatarInteresting that all the philly area starbucks closings will be in the suburbs...some in the far suburbs: http://www.philly.com/philly/ new...osing_List.html

GravatarI'm assuming that's probably true most places. I wonder if local shops will move in or whether there will be some other adaptive reuse of those spaces.

Buckeye,

you should see what they did here. bulldozed a 20 ft. wide swath up to my property line.

GravatarCities don't plant trees that won't grow into power lines, and thwarting a tree from doing what it naturally does ends up making the tree look like hell, in my experience.

Yes, Spraying the leaves with insecticidal soap and water dries the bugs out and washes off with water.
It's best to do it early in the day or in the evening -- but not just before the plant is exposed to hot, direct sun.

I've heard that (most) diaper rash comes from not letting the child to properly dry before putting the new diaper on.

GravatarIran signed the NPT and permitted numerous IAEA inspections. The treaty permits the development and use of nuclear energy.

Israel has refused to sign the NPT
Israel has refused to permit any IAEA inspections at all.
Israel has hundreds of nuclear war heads
Israel uses cluster bombs
Israel has used chemical weapons against Palestinians
Israel has attacked Syria two times without provocation
Israel has flown over Iran air space as a threat, again without provocation

Flame away!

Yeah, FERC has put in place (via NERC) strict rules about branches. Lots of folks all over the country unhappy about tree trimming more aggressive than in the past. Our electric infrastructure is worn out and can't take even a small hit nowadays.

What does McWarLover dislike Iran so much? I mean, they have the same attitudes about women as he does.

GravatarDuring my late tenure as President of teh HOA, I pled, pled, with APS to come over to -their- damned right of way and cut down oleanders that were drowning their powerlines.  They wouldn't do it.

They knew it was a plot.

It amazes me that people (landscapers, homeowners, etc) still plant 'regular' size trees under power lines. One of our local banks did some new landscaping, and planted the nice trees on the berm. Which are under the power lines. If they moved the trees back 10 feet, closer to the building, it might have been smarter.

There's one house on my walk that has planet the miniature type trees, so they're right under the lines, but aren't going to be a threat to the lines.

GravatarFlame away!

Much simpler to killfile.

GravatarMcCain and the Unitary Executive [Ramesh Ponnuru]

Ilya Somin ably points out that the theory of the unitary executive is not what Bob Barr says it is. Left unaddressed is whether Barr has any basis for claiming that McCain has embraced the theory. I'm not sure that he has, either on the true understanding of that theory or on Barr's.

Barr is a despicable individual (as befits a TRUE conservative). His word, therefore, supersedes either yours or McStain's, who are paler but no less despicable conservatives.

GravatarMany Landscape Contractors don't know much about plants of any kind, let alone trees. Homeowners, I don't expect to know. Great dwarf, semi-dwarf and fastigate (narrow, upright) trees exist for use along streets -- but one must know whom to ask for advice.

GravatarMcStain, you have to kiss military ass before making a decision, whereas Hero Obama doesn't.

That's the difference between being a TRUE hero like Obama and a FALSE hero such as yourself.

GravatarDead thread, but since no one else said it.

Individual Bankruptcy debtors whose debts are primarily incurred through business aren't subject to means testing the way consumer debtors are.
