GravatarWHAT?!

How could he have possibly edged Fred Hiatt today?

It's an upset.

Gravatardamn, watching msnbc -- indiana under water. the weather guy said 5-10 inches rain in the last 8 hours.

GravatarWhat's Broder concern-trolling about today?

GravatarIowa under water, too.

GravatarThere needs to be accountability but there also needs to be proportionality.

Jeebus fucking crap. Broder's beyond help.

GravatarProportionality? A war longer than WW2 and costing trillions isn't a big enough deal?

GravatarAll this proves is that a wayward penis scares this fine fellah a lot more than a few hundred thousand dead people.

GravatarJust thinking about clicking that link makes me nauseous.

Don't click, and spare yourself.

Broder gets worse every nanosecond.

GravatarI'm guessing Broder hasn't attended any funerals for any of the young, dead Americans who paid the price for Bush's garden variety policy lie.
I'm going to puke now.

GravatarWould we guess that Broder has never read Greenwald?

GravatarI thought Hiatt would get it, but I didn't bother checking what teh Broderster had churned out.

I suspect Broder reads nothing but his own drivel since he already considers himself the smartest man in any room.

I beg to differ.

I suspect he Googles his name several times a day to read about himself.

GravatarDavid S. Broder: You'll have to forgive me, but I am reluctant to see every big policy dispute turned into a criminal or impeachable affair. There needs to be accountability but there also needs to be proportionality. This country is engaged in two wars and has serious, serious domestic problems. To stop everything and attempt to impeach and remove a president who has less than a year to serve would not strike me as the best use of our energy. And for what? So Dick Cheney can be president?

There could be a joint impeachment. Big Dick leads the parade in false statements.

GravatarI don't even think Broder is on Karl Rove's side in this. I just think he's a person to whom the Big Lie is much more worthy of protection than the truth. The whole Lewinsky affair was about the personal honor of one man, Bill Clinton. 9/11 and Iraq are about the honor of our whole country. That is to say, while Clinton dishonored only himself, Bush dishonored all of us. The latter can be a lot more difficult for people to admit, because their own egos are at stake. Hence the tenacity of the Big Lie.

GravatarCan we add Jake Tapper on the list of David Broder wanker of the day trainee? I mean, what is the point of this report? Is this supposed to pass for humor of just the hit job I think it is.

that makes scary kind of sense.

GravatarDavid S. Broder: You'll have to forgive me...

No. We don't, actually.
~

GravatarThe biggest arguments against impeachment are that it's too late and that it is guaranteed not to have a just outcome. Prosecution after the ends of their terms stands a much better chance. Somebody should have asked Broder what he thought of that.

GravatarBottom line: as long as there's folks like Broder in the corpse, there will be ZERO accountability to those in power.

He's a jackass who's fawns over the same shit that those who watch TMZ every night. It's all about teh sexy.

GravatarI'm glad that the internets are forciing these guys (Broder and Klein) to at least answer the questions related to why they are whores. That gives me hope.

GravatarThe blood of our soldiers is on Broder's hands almost as much as it is on Bush's, Cheney's, and their supporters.

GravatarThe pathology that fascinates me is that Broder, Matthews, Dowd, etc genuinely do believe a blow job is worse than hundreds of thousands of people dying in a war based on lies.

Really. They aren't faking.

GravatarOh damn. I just HAD to click the link. How fucking irritating.

Oh well, now that I'm already pissed off guess I'll go read some news.

GravatarDid anyone else see the April 2008 edition of GQ with Meaghen McCain? I was getting a haircut the other day when I perused the only mag on the table and was treated to this.

She is featured in an article that touts her liberal creds and poses for a photo in a tight shirt on a hotel bed with a bottle of beer.

I am loath to imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Washington gasbags had this been Obama's daughter doing this sleazy but politically calculated interview.

BTW: this isn't an argument, it's an excuse. An excuse for him and his colleagues that they didn't work hard enough to question/engage those with the real power; those in the government. There's a reason that this propaganda campaign was only recently unveiled. They are cowards.

GravatarDavid S. Broder: You'll have to forgive me

I will never forgive you or any member of the Beltway Courtesans. Your enabling of and apologizing for Bush makes you effectively part of his administration, the worst presidency in the modern history of America.

GravatarOne of the reasons that I am less than enthralled with Obama is that there has been zero indication that as president he will demand investigations of the boundless crimes of the Bushies.

Doesn't sound like the politics of change to me, I'm afraid....

GravatarBroder, Matthews, Dowd, etc genuinely do believe a blow job is worse than hundreds of thousands of people dying in a war based on lies.

Really. They aren't faking.
trifecta

Like I said, by making it about our whole country, Bush entangled everybody's ego in this mess. You can't go on corporate teevee and say bad things about America. It's a taboo.

GravatarDavid S. Broder: You'll have to forgive me, but I am reluctant to see every big policy dispute turned into a criminal or impeachable affair. There needs to be accountability but there also needs to be proportionality

You supported impeachment over a blowjob, shmuck.

How does proportionality NOT include impeachment over lying us into a war?

~

GravatarOne of the reasons that I am less than enthralled with Obama is that there has been zero indication that as president he will demand investigations of the boundless crimes of the Bushies.

1) He's pretty damn good at not showing his hand.

2) We still need a strong Congress to go along with that.

3) "Change" can simply mean expelling the Bushites and their enablers. That would suffice for a lot of people.

4) He's not President Obama yet. Give him some time.

GravatarDoesn't sound like the politics of change to me, I'm afraid....
steve hüssein® simels

Setting aside the question of whether or not it's justified, trying to prosecute the other side for their crimes is new? It sure sounds like the same ol' same ol' to me. The change Obama is talking about is re-focusing the country on its real problems and re-framing the debate to nullify rightard squawking points.

GravatarOne of the reasons that I am less than enthralled with Obama is that there has been zero indication that as president he will demand investigations of the boundless crimes of the Bushies.

I doubt we'll ever see any US politicians truly pursuing the crimes of this administration. They're all complicit, on both sides of the aisle, either by direct participation or extreme negligence in oversight.

Gravatarbonddad over at kos has an excellent diary on the rec'd list about why oil has and may continue to go up in price. He offers market charts and 27 reasons for the problem.

And, as some here have stated, he suggests that the cost of oil has increased because of the weakening value of the dollar, the fact that this counry is woefully lax in the development of energy policy, and the industrial growth and development in China and Indiana.

For people like me who struggled with Economics in college, the diary was easy to read and made sense to my non-financial brain.

GravatarPittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | June 7, 2008 | Bill Steigerwald

Two weeks ago Cliff Kincaid, president of the conservative group America's Survival Inc., called a press conference in Washington to challenge the mainstream media to look into the hard-core left-wingers who are known to have influenced Barack Obama -- first as a teenager in Hawaii and later in Chicago. Specifically, Kincaid's group wants a major news organization to follow up on the investigative work it has done that documents that an elderly black man who mentored Sen. Obama in Hawaii was a lifelong member of the Communist Party USA.

The Reagan people were effectively pardoned. By Bush, thus effectively pardoning himself. Who got away with it without a squawk from the same press who went batshit over Clinton pardoning Marc Rich.

ramp up the following:

outsource fbi to blackwater
move all prisoners off shore to developing countries where they can be "serviced" cheaper and are less likely to seek appeals
charge immigrants big bucks for guest status equaling about 30% tax on wages in return for work permit (use old prisons as guest worker housing)

GravatarWhile late, let me somewhat defend Mr. Broder here. It won't happen often.

Mr. Border somewhat reasonably points out that there isn't a good way to impeach Mr. Bush while he in in office. There isn't enough time and the resulting Cheney presidency would be far worse.

Unspoken, impeachment would distract people from observing the failures of the Bush Administration so as to make an informed choice about the 2008 election.

I would prefer Mr. Broder to write that the Political Industry failed so completely with the selection and promotion of Mr. Bush that there is little that can be done, other than to replace most of the Industry in 2008. This replacement should include pundits, such as Mr. Broder.

The worst mistake ABC made was in letting McKay go on trying to cover the Munich Olympics after the hostage situation started. I couldn't watch him after awhile.

Gravatar"Policy dispute"? This doesn't seem like wanking, it seems like the self-delusion of a moral cripple. The question is, do people become Republicans because they are so, or does Republican party membership cause it?

Come to think of it, Hammurabi was probably the last dood who ever got it right about Iraq.

GravatarBRODER: "Let me disclose my own bias in this matter. I like Karl Rove. In the days when he was operating from Austin, we had many long and rewarding conversations. Interesting that he was pals with Rove before Bush got into office. Of course the message here is that Rove, like Broder, is a member of the "elite".

GravatarFollowing his conquest of Constantinople in 1453, the victorious Ottoman sultan Mehmed II was the first of the rulers of the Ottoman Empire to assume the title "Caesar of the Roman Empire" (Ottoman Turkish Kayser-i-Rûm). Here, the Caesar title should not be understood as the minor title it had become, but as the glorious title of the emperors of the past, a connotation that had been preserved in Persian and Arabic. The adoption of the title also implied that the Ottoman state considered itself the continuation, by absorption, of the Roman Empire, a view not shared in the West. Acting in his capacity as Caesar of the Roman Empire, Mehmed reinstated the defunct Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

GravatarCaesar was Julius Caesar's family name, and was later used by the Roman Emperors as a title.

GravatarThe history of "Caesar" as an imperial title is reflected by the following monarchic titles, usually reserved for "Emperor" and "Empress" in many languages (note that the name Caesar, pronounced see-zer in English, was pronounced kai-sahr in Classical Latin):

Germanic languages:

* Danish: Kejser & Kejserinde;
* Dutch: Keizer & Keizerin;
* German: Kaiser & Kaiserin;
* Icelandic: Keisari & Keisaraynja;
* Faroese: Keisari & Keisarinna;
* Norwegian: Keiser & Keiserinne;
* Swedish: Kejsare & Kejsarinna
* Old English: casere ( honorific used by early English kings )

GravatarSuccotash Johnson is correct.

And--as Nietzsche says--out of chaos comes order.

GravatarGreenwald...

No matter how many times one sees it, it will never cease to amaze that the exact same media mavens who righteously strutted around demanding that Bill Clinton be impeached or forced to resign because the "honor" of our political system demanded that, continue casually to dismiss every crime of the last seven years as nothing more than a garden-variety, good faith "policy dispute" which only shrill rabble want to see "turned into a criminal or impeachable affair."

Another thing the media did with Clinton is second guess every military move he ever instigated, accusing him of "wagging the dog" in Kosovo. The fucks sure as hell weren't automatically assuming that he or people in his administration were telling the truth, the default position with Bush.

GravatarThe mister and I were discussing the media's role in all of the crimes that have been committed by this White House for the past 7 years, and the reason they continue to dismiss them is because they are part and parcel and accomplices of these crimes by their endorsements of them. They are owned by the republican party entirely. I believe if there were investigations made, it would be found that this White House continued to pay reporters and to work with the corporate owners of the few media outlets we have available to us on the television.

It has been and continues to be a full partnership with the media to deceive and manipulate the American people and we're about to see it turned on full force for the upcoming elections.

GravatarBroder has one correct pont in that pile of shit Greemwald posts: If Clinton had resigned, and Gore assumed the presidency, the world would indeed be a different, and much better, place. Not that Clinton should have resigned over theRepublicans' filthy, pornographic tactics, but certaily Gore finishing out the term would have led to Gore being overwhelmingly elected, no 9/11, and 7000 Americans alive and home with their families, among many other benefits to the population of the USA and the rest of the world..

Gravatar"Czar" is the Russian word for "king". Kings are anti-democratic. Using the Russian word seems extra anti-democratic. And communist. Are republicans advocating communist ideals to undermine America?

GravatarYou're running late, Mrs. Clinton.

GravatarWell, I guess while we're waiting...

...I'll provide the entertainment.

Since we all seem to be burned out on politics and/or religion, how does a nice commentary on engineering science sound?

GravatarWhen I was a young man (and I really had only the most rudimentary of mechanical skills), I was lured by the "need for speed".

I think that's where it all really began.

Y'see...I was never a vocational education type of guy. I studied the academic curriculum in preperation for college, then really didn't decide I wanted to be an engineer until way after I had graduated High School.

That's a funny thing, because when I look back...the vocational-style two year study programs, really are a better path to the engineering disciplines.

The essential problem...is the merger of what four year programs call "applied" science...merging that knowledge with what is known as simply "engineering" in most major colleges.

GravatarI have a dream--every numb skill knuckleheaded pundit is required to "volunteer" to serve in Iraq, call it the "American Patriot Volunteer Program", a forced volunteer program to include AEI/Cato shill, serving as rear guard troops while we withdraw the real heros. Let them take the bombs, theheat, the deaths, the wounds. Broder could serve in a hospital, timmeh drive a no-protection suv, etc. etc. Crazy I know, but that's the ONLY way these dumb fucks will ever GET IT that they helped Bush into the white house and we are all suffering the consequences. Call it a reality check for those who live in the make believe media Village.

gotta go, hillary's on

GravatarIf Obama is elected president, you people are going to be very disappointed. He will not change anything! Why, because he doesn't know how!

GravatarThis shit just makes me want to SCREAM!!

GravatarDavid Broder goes to graveyards to dig up bodies to give them prince albert piercings

GravatarThe price of oil keeps skyrocketing because idiots in Israel say bombing iran is inevitable, and we have managed to piss off nearly every Arab with any sense of honor into cutting back production from the oil reserves.
And we are led to believe by the punditry its the fault of chinese and india.
We are still being sold and buying the lies to excuse this fucked bush administration.

GravatarI propose that Broder and Klein be promoted to the status of "wanker emeriti" and the daily wankers be confined to more obscure, less well-known who nevertheless are doing their bit to make Inside Washington the long lasting Soap Opera that it has become today.

GravatarWe've put up with a lot from you, "Atrios", but this is it. You've finally gone TOO FAR.

Attacking DAVID BRODER? What's next? Mom? The flag? Jesus? Washington and Lincoln?

If I didn't feel so faint I'd let you have a piece of my mind, bet on it!
