Out of the shower and I'm clean and Ken Pollack still stinks like bullshit.

Hey, at least he got the part about Iraq being worse now than it was pre-surge right.
Though it was a civil war pre-surge, though civil war were the words Washington bobbleheads dared not utter or fear the wrath of a super popular president and even more popular and influential vice president.

If it fails, we are going to find Iraq even worse than it is today. It will probably slide into a Bosnia or Lebanon-like all-out civil war. That’s going to be disastrous not just for Iraq and the Iraqi people, but potentially for other countries around it, perhaps even for the entire region.
Yes, and if it fails, Americans will still be there dying so that Bush can pretend his plan hasn't failed.
I heard that another American died for Bush's ego yesterday. Eventually, there have to be consequences.

Fun Factoid
As we hover around $600 billion for the Iraq fiasco and no end in sight recall the cost of the successful 'Gulf War'.
Total financial cost to the US after allies contributed of about $11 billion dollars ($7 billion x 1.5 CPI from 1992 to 2007).
I like that "Iraq even worse than it is today." As long as things could still at least theoretically be worse, they will continue to pretend it's business as usual. Just like a certain Dictator Who May Not be Named. That one wound up huddled in a bunker under Berlin -- for real, not faked like Saddam's capture in the Rumsfeld-predicted hole, what a coincidence.

Stopping the F.U.'s?
I would say that we need to say that we won and that there is no need for us to be there that way dear leader can save face and the troops are brought home.

It reminds me of how little josh marshall sat curled up at Pollack's feet, awestruck by his brilliance, and telling all us fumducks how wise and knowing pollack was at the time.
Of course, josh was fresh from his no holds barred investigation of gary condit at the time, so pollack probably did look pretty smart - especially compared to tom squitteri and lisa de paolo who were all over the teevee with inside scoops from chandra's 37 yo male BFF Sven, or whatever his name was. Oy.
Sorry to digress, but that whole condit-levy thing just killed JMM's credibility with me.
As for Pollack (in a theme reinforced by jokeline in the last day or so), these people present themselves as serious because they "study the facts on the ground." It matters not that they then get everything all boned up. It's not the results that count, it's the think tank-supported intensive study. I wish my calculus professor in college had viewed things that way.
Personally, my preference would be for some who studies the facts and then gets things right. Call me crazy.

I should add that if l'affaire condit killed JMM's credibility for me, then his gullibility re: Pollack dumped the corpse into a festering shallow grave. I still have to spread lime over it the few times I ever go to TPM.

Since he is will to let the situation deteriorate to give Bush his "last shot" whatever that is, then he and all the rest of these cowards should enlist immediately and let our kids come home.

Sure he's tired. Sure he walked the last two batters. Give him one last shot. After all, it's only a game. Not like anybody's dying or anything.

After all what's several hundred additional deaths and thousands more grievously wounded, just "give it a shot." Hell it's probably 50-50.
Pollack's ass should have been sent over immediately.
There should be a rule that anyone who supports giving it the ol' college try just one more time should be sent at once with rifle in hand and the rank of Private. Not a Green Zone soldier but an on the ground Private in Anbar or wherever else the action is.

"It will probably slide into a Bosnia or Lebanon-like all-out civil war."
And so Kenny boy if you hadn't been so hot and bothered to shoot up the place to begin with NONE of these possibilities would have existed.
So nearly 3,700 American soldiers would still be alive, 26,000 American soldiers wouldn't have been wounded, many of that number with grievous life altering wounds who wouldn't have to do without legs, arms, hands, a face, a functioning mind, etc. and likely more than 600,000 Iraqis would be alive, who knows how many more wouldn't have been grievously wounded, nearly 2 million wouldn't have abandoned their homes for enlightening foreign travel and possibly a million more wouldn't be adrift adrift as refugees in their own country and upwards of $2 trillion would have been spent stengthening your own country.
And all because after all the years your Daddy paid to have your ass sitting in a comfy classroom in the nation's elite universities you learned nothing but came out arrogant enough to think that some overheated crackpot's ideas were just the keenest and coolest thing ever and so you reached the brilliant conclusion that a 3rd world nation that had NEVER attacked us, the number 42 industrial power in the world, a nation with no basic industry, incapable of producing even conventional weapons, a nation that had to import over half of its food, hobbled by 10 years of crippling sanctions was a military threat to the world and an imminent threat to the US.
So you gave cover to a group of morons who had been wrong about EVERYTHING since the 1970s and said what the hell lets go open Pandoras Box it's sure that only roses and democracy will pop out.
