Gravatarfrom below:

Somewhere in one of the collections of Garrison Keillor's short pieces, c. 1995-- "We Are Still Married", possibly-- is a funny-because-it's-true musing on America as a "big two-hearted forgiving country".

I'm sorry for spoiling it with imperfect paraphrase, but one trenchant bit involves imagining what it would be like if Hitler survived and appeared on the network teevee morning shows to pimp a newly-published memoir.

He suggests that American viewers would pause between bites of toast to stare at the TV screen as the white-mustached Hitler easily deflects questions about his storied past with good humor: "Katie, that was a long time ago! I'm not about dwelling on the past-- a lot of things happened on both sides, we all have our regrets. The important thing is how we face each new day, and what we do to make the future a better place..."

That wickedly excellent satire came immediately to mind when I read Slaughter's screed in the trash-tabloid Huffington Post. It's so transparently lame and self-serving that it's bound to elicit vigorous nods of approval from the rest of the "liberal hawk" infotainwhore community.

Slaughter and her ilk will wave the tattered scraps of their groupthink security blanket until they are wrapped in their shrouds.

Actually, I've noticed a lot of these fraud cases have involved people in their early 20s.

I'm sure they got the idea from a late-night infomercial.

GravatarDamn. People will fall for a con no matter how transparent it seems to us. So just maybe it would be appropriate to have some tiny modicum of govt. oversight of this stuff? The Better Business Bureau doesn't quite cut it, see?

Gravatardoes he have a license for his pony Eric?

GravatarI'm in the wrong line of work.

GravatarThis is just a little OT but after watching some sort of Payday Loan Scam advertisement on TV that offered money to people at 99% interest, I was just wondering how much trouble I could get into if I started a petition drive to limit interest rates in the State of Michigan to 2% a month or 24%. That still seems like plenty to me, BTW (I would rather it be half of that - but. . . .)

Gravatarthe "scandal" about how Obama used "typical" is just one step lower on the stupid scale.

GravatarI bet little Mr Pony is a dead ringer for a young Chimpy.

GravatarOn MSNBC, the performance of Hardball, Countdown, and now Race for the White House often resembles that of a cult. This brings us to a peculiar question: Who is Michelle Bernard?
At present, Bernard is CEO of the Independent Women’s Forum, a conservative women’s group founded in 1992.
As a major conservative, why is Bernard appearing on Hardball so often—to gush about Obama?
According to Nexis, Bernard has appeared nineteen times since January 24, an eight-week period. During that time:

She has almost never been identified as a conservative.
She has repeatedly and effusively praised Obama.
Why is the head of the IWF gushing so over Obama? never been asked why she, as a leading conservative, is promoting the Democratic Party’s most likely presidential nominee.
My question: Why is the head of the IWF gushing so over Obama? Hmm..........

GravatarMichelle Bernard appears on Hardball because she can stand to be on a set with Tweety and flatters him. She may be taken with Obama because of his message, which you do not appear to hear.

Who the fuck are you to question her motives?

GravatarBERNARD: I was proud. I thought it was a wonderful time in our history. We’ve had other African Americans run for president, Shirley Chisholm, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton. Barack Obama represents a new type of black politics.

MATTHEWS: Define it, if can you.

BERNARD: Well, we are going beyond color. You are seeing African Americans competing with whites on their own territory. Like his wife going to Princeton, like Barack Obama going to Harvard Law School. Speaking just as well as the whites, not speaking Ebonics. Going out and giving great speeches.

Barack Obama isn’t speaking Ebonics! It made Bernard feel proud!

I want the ongoing warning to others, though.

GravatarHey, you're not booked on USAir!

GravatarSee, "usury" used to be against the law. Then the idea became popular that "usury" was a relative concept, meaning that you couldn't just put a cap on something beyond which was usurious. So the effect has been to eviscerate the whole concept. It's also strictly forbidden in the Bible. So I guess the dark emperor Mammon wins again.

GravatarCLOWN COLLEGE: To earn a spot at Jack Welch’s net, you have to prove that you’re willing to clown. For our money, Bernard earned her spurs on March 11 and 12.

On March 11, she took offense when Pat Buchanan praised Obama:

BERNARD (3/11/0: For the record, can I please ask: Why is it that, whenever we talk about an African-American, like Barack Obama, that we have to use the word “articulate,” as if he`s going to go on TV speaking Ebonics?

Yep! On March 11, Bernard was miffed when Obama was described as “articulate.” But the very next night, she rushed to say that Obama is quite “well-spoken:”

BERNARD (3/12/0: He is not an affirmative action candidate. He is highly qualified. He is well-spoken...

Obama was “speaking just as well as the whites, not speaking Ebonics,” she said that same night (full text above).

Well-spoken, si! Articulate, no! It’s how the clowns tumble into the ring on the scam-ridden cable show Hardball.

GravatarFrom Below:

how is it (as per that post below) that Obama has an insurmountable lead? I thought they were real close in delegates?

its not insurmountable, just highly unlikely to be surmounted.

Delegate counts give him a lead of between 119 and 148. Given the proportional distribution of delegates it will be very hard to make up that difference in the remaining contests (Clinton netted 9 delegates on Obama with a 10% win in OH for instance).

Unless Clinton starts winning every remaining contest by big margins she will not close that gap significantly.

Clinton has an edge with super delegates (34 according to CNN) but more than half have have already declared for one or the other, so unless the race shifts significantly in her favor she will need most of the rest of the Super Delegates to come over to her side.

So its not impossible for her to win, just very unlikely given the current situation. But of course things can change in the coming weeks or months.

GravatarWhy must Michelle Bernard behave as you wish?

That's the real question.

GravatarComment by Bugs blocked.

'Black beans and rice is a popular Cuban dish said to bring good luck when eaten on New Year's Day. In fact, this recipe is eaten often as a side dish. In Spanish, the dish is called Moros y Cristianos or Christians & Moors, with the black beans representing the dark-skinned Moors and the white rice representing the lighter-skinned Christians. It is fast and easy to make in less than 30 minutes'

No, the word was an excerpt from a local radio interview that they have clipped. (they are good at that particular bit of nastiness)

But unless everyone calls it what it is, racism, expect to see a lot more of it in the coming months.

I think, like many of his troll-kin, he lacks the courage of his convictions. I remember a speech that Jackson gave a few years ago where he said he was walking down a dark street and was worried when he heard voices behind him.

When he left the people behind him walk by, he said he was RELIEVED to see that they were WHITE youths.

He added that he was ashamed that he'd felt that way.

You might have missed this but when I first started working in my African American school district I taught beginning computer classes at night. I had three lovely older African American ladies attend the classes. They would wait at the office after class for me to check out so that I could walk them to their car: THEY were afraid of the young men hanging around the school.

Draw your own conclusions.

GravatarThis is one of the stupidest scams I have ever heard of. Did they think the customers wouldn’t notice? What did they think was going to happen when dozens of applicants went to the cops and said that their signatures had been forged? Is there any indication that these crooks tried to leave the country? That would have been the sensible thing to do.

GravatarThese aren't the ponies you're looking for. You can go about your business. Move along...move along.

GravatarThis kind of predatory lending was starting with the Bush administration barely out of the gates. Shortly after 2000 I had tried to refinance my home and after having to literally threaten calling police if the very esteemed mortgage company came back on my property I got a "Welcome" letter from a new underwriter saying how pleased they were to service my new mortgage agreement. Never signed a paper. Of course my existing mortgage was still standing so now I had two mortgages, on record, on the same house. It took months to clear it up and no oversight entity was willing to hold the obvious forgerers to account. Leadership, top down. I am currently a happy renter.

GravatarI don't understand how that Tracylynn person is responsible to pay back this loan when the Pony people forged the document? Why do they have to pay it?
