I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

First? (Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

GravatarMorning.

GravatarI'll call sheets.

GravatarYoink!

GravatarWhere do you think "pregnant chads" came from?
NTodd

When a mommy chad and a daddy chad love each other very much....

GravatarZoinks!

GravatarGodammit. Every time I say anything even remotely witty or interesting he puts up a new thread.

GravatarIs Schuster back from his suspension yet?

GravatarWhere do you think "pregnant chads" came from?
NTodd

I know this! Something that tastes like chicken.

GravatarListen, the repugs would not survive period if not for the hate spewed by Ann and Rush.

Rush has himself in such a pickle right now over McStain he is doing extra drugs to make it through this mess.

GravatarI vote with my cock.
NTodd, Löving Führer

Thus the appeal of Kucinich and his Teh Hawt wife.

GravatarHate sells! And in capitalist America that's all that matters.

In a rational, decent world would Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Coulter, Savage, et. al. have a national platform?

They'd be lucky to have a soapbox in park with 3 people listening.

GravatarThe supposed anti McCain rhetoric is reverse spin.

They'll fall in line once the ticket is set.

GravatarGood morning.

Plane ticket for EC 2 has been bought.

I rock!

GravatarTralfaz,

He's back on the 22nd.

GravatarAnytime I hear someone mention 'Rush Limpballs' - I Immediately say "you MEAN comedian and practicing drug addict Rush Limpballs"?

GravatarI don't see how anybody can responsibly put A. Hart Coulter on the air. It's irresponsible.

GravatarNicole Kidman as Valerie Plame.

Hmmmm

GravatarThanks res ipsa and ql.

The bad part of this cold is that I have no appetite which is bad for the diabetes.
Everything tastes disgusting.
Ugh.

I've been eating soup.

GravatarBarndog, you got that one right!

GravatarAnn Coulter is an individual who is stealing the air she breathes from someone who deserves to have it! And, Foster's piece so accurately presents the fact that MSNBC doesn't get it! Even KO is now beginning to make comments that have no basis and feed into the "sensational" or "breaking news" mentality of CNN/MSNBC/FAUX NEWS that promotes more stories of cultural focus than anything helpful/useful/factual that might inform the public they should be SERVING!! We know who their masters are...Matthews and Carlson should be banned from airwaves much as Savage and Coulter ...they do spew HATE and have no objectivity. We are sad to see COUNTDOWN go the way of the rest...we had long enjoyed it! The occasional "rant" in the form of a SPECIAL COMMENT doesn't make up for the crap!

GravatarMatthews lashed out at the Clinton campaign, saying that Clinton should "get rid of the kneecappers that work for her," referring to her communications staff who go "after the press."

I agree, because kneecapping has apparently not worked. She should just have done with it and hire herself some ballcutters.

GravatarIn a rational, decent world would Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Coulter, Savage, et. al. have a national platform?

Please remember, you are talking about human beings, not rational creatures.

GravatarNicole Kidman as Valerie Plame is too glamorous. I'd prefer Kate Blanchette or Laura Linney.

GravatarDancer, KeithO called out MSNBC for showcasing Coulter on the air. Could you have done that much?

GravatarA. Hart Coulter is the the crazy lady with the cats.

GravatarThe poor seal... he'll be traumatized for ages.
Molly Ivors

Well.... yeah.

It sucks to be a seal

GravatarHe takes a lot of shit, but I luv my guv.

Gravatar Dancer
Your concern is deeply appreciated and noted.

GravatarMore than six years ago, Matthews said of Clinton, "I hate her. I hate her. All that she stands for."

I wonder what he thinks she "stands for?"

GravatarBTW, did you all know I'm an obsessively self-important sycophant? Please update your Excel spreadsheets accordingly.

Gravatartristero has a good post up over at digby's recounting how the right frames and gets out their message.

How did we (collectively) become so hate-filled or tolerant of those who are which is almost as bad?

GravatarY'know, it occurs to me:

John McCain = Bob Dole, minus the charisma and warmth.

GravatarHe's back on the 22nd.
res ipsa loquitur

Wow. I'm surprised that it was that long (and that the network actually enforced it).

GravatarMSNBC is the ratings whore that the rest of the MSM is, even if they have some redeeming features like KO and (lately) Dan Abrams.

Which is why they permit a moral degenerate and hate-monger like Coulter on air.

GravatarCarlson should be banned from airwaves

But Tucker looked so cute in his blouse on Dancing With The Stars.

GravatarIt sucks to be a seal

No, that's just the vanilla ice cream.

GravatarThe occasional "rant" in the form of a SPECIAL COMMENT doesn't make up for the crap!

Yeah, okay.

GravatarWhy is k&y using a sockpuppet?

GravatarJeebus fuck, NTodd.

Why do you always get the crazies?

GravatarHe takes a lot of shit, but I luv my guv.

Me too. He actually thinks higher education is important, unlike our the previous worthless governor.

GravatarMore than six years ago, Matthews said of Clinton, "I hate her. I hate her. All that she stands for."

tell us Chris, do you like Hillary?

but you fucking have little opinion about W - oh right, you pushed the have a beer with meme...interesting Chris...vedddy interestink!

when it was revealed that fonda caused NBC to apologize, the same story said that NBC has apologized for shit Matthews said on air in the past (i dunno what)

FU, hellascum

GravatarSpeaking of framing and repeating the talking points, Van Natta this morning on Gore's efforts re the superdelegates:
“He’s probably the only unaligned person with the kind of stature to step in to that role and have a real impact on this.”

Several allies said that because of Mr. Gore’s bruising defeat in 2000 presidential voting in Florida, he would have the credibility with Democrats to carry the message that the will of the people should be respected.

"Bruising defeat"? No, Mr Van Natta, the SCt stopped the recount so you and the other minions wouldn't have to admit Gore WON FL.

GravatarWhy do you always get the crazies?

Because they always get me. I mean, I did call that person a fuckdork...

GravatarWhy do you always get the crazies?

Gravatarsee you next tuesday, mann.

GravatarNicole Kidman as Valerie Plame is too glamorous. I'd prefer Kate Blanchette or Laura Linney.

Hope Davis wold also work.

GravatarI wonder what Tweety's mother was like? I have a Dem friend who hates Hillary. His mother was a dominating, hateful woman.

I've told him I think his vehemence regarding Hillary have a lot to do with his deceased mother.

He denies it of course.

GravatarKO said last night that Hillary has weird periods of anger and when they come on she airs a negative ad against Obama. He didn't quite say they were monthly, but close enough.

GravatarNTODD!

OMG!

Press the ignore button on that stupid machine.
There is something mentally wrong with that one other than just being a normal troll. Stalking comes to mind.

GravatarMSNBC is the ratings whore that the rest of the MSM is, even if they have some redeeming features like KO and (lately) Dan Abrams.

That's unfortunately not true. Otherwise the higher ratings for liberal shows would have changed their lineup fundamentally years ago.

GravatarHow did we (collectively) become so hate-filled or tolerant of those who are which is almost as bad?
noblejoanie

Twas ever thus, I'd say. Hate and fear are easy emotions to appeal to. That is the entire secret of Republican success. Liberals only get a fair shake when there has been a collapse or bloodbath of some kind, and those emotions are briefly replaced by remorse.

GravatarVan Natta is a self-important prick. I knew him in college.

Why do you always get the crazies?

I would love to see NTodd riding the subway here on a daily basis. I'm sure he would draw every freak walking the pavement in meatspace, too.

Yep.

Now if we could just get rid of fucking assessment mandates...

By Eric Boehlert, Media Matters for America. Posted February 15, 2008.

Hey, GOP, that's quite a Noise Machine you've constructed. Now good luck trying to dismantle it.

Rush Limbaugh, the marauding Frankenstein's monster of the Republican Party, is on the loose again, causing all kinds of political damage with his signature off-balance swings. But as has become his custom recently, the pain from Limbaugh's rampage is being felt by his creators -- his enablers -- inside the GOP."

GravatarI'm not sure what calculus MSNBC uses to program it's political shows but I doubt that the popularity of KO is the dominant factor.

I don't have the facts or figures but there have got to be a lot of rightwingnut TV junkies out there who constitute a considerable TV/radio audience.

Otherwise how or why would anyone keep Tweety, Tucker or Scarboy on?

To say nothing of the continued "success" of Fux News.

GravatarI just heard on the radio that the IL guy who shot up that school bought his gun from the same internet gun dealer as the kid that shot up VA Tech.

The gun dealer was on the radio saying, "What are the odds that this would happen?"

res ipsa loquitur

Dunno, but if he believes in God, he's got some 'splaining to do.

GravatarI was kind of surprised that KO labeled the ads put out by Clinton as "negative," but, for Dems, anything other than a love fest is "negative."

For others, comparisons and pointing out flaws in a plan are considered part of getting out one's message and informing the pubic.

Now, if shows like KO's covered the issues in a compare/contrast format of, oh, a bit longer than Worst Person in the World, mentioning such things wouldn't be considered "negative." They would be reinforcing things voters who pay attention the the MCM would have a chance of knowing.

I mentioned below that I searched for "Obama healthcare plan" on the NYTimes site and fot four hits, all from 2007--and one was an op-ed by an insurance company exec. All that newsprint--and four, count'em, four articles. Beginning in May, ending early December. None in 2008 when the voter interest in primaries picks up.

Gee, I wonder why the Times is having to lay off 100 newsroom employees....

(Yeah, I do know in economic downturns ad revenue goes down, and the internet is impacting newspapers bottomlines. But--if newspapers really offered value for money, maybe they wouldn't lose so many readers.)

GravatarThe gun dealer was on the radio saying, "What are the odds that this would happen?"

No one could have foreseen that they'd actually *use* them!

I think I'll open a gun store/bar and call it "The Angry Loner."

GravatarThe gun dealer was on the radio saying, "What are the odds that this would happen?"

Better than good - to someone who'd go to that level in "making a statement".

I think the key may be to divide the media. Get some on your side so that when you need to go after a media figure, at least half of the press is ready to make it a story for more than a single news cycle. Also, the grassroots can help (blogswarms, etc...)

GravatarRudy,

GravatarYou have got to wonder how long it will take the American public to figure out that if you just make it take a few weeks to obtain a weapon like this, this kind of thing will almost never happen, and every responsible law-abiding citizen will still be able to own one if they want. Anybody who wants a gun and can't wait a couple of weeks or a month to get it probably really shouldn't br given one. Sigh.

GravatarThe gun dealer was on the radio saying, "What are the odds that this would happen?"

Probability clearly was approaching 1.

GravatarI guess that web site where these kids bought their guns is based in Green Bay.

Maybe the town is just sick of being thought of as only a football town.

GravatarWe will probably have a massacre-a-month thanks to the easy availability of guns in America.

The gun lobby and their stooges in Congress will argue that the victims are to blame for not carrying guns with which to defend themselves.

In fact, Kay Bailey Hutchison was saying just that after a recent shooting rampage.

Jebus, they misspelled my friend Deanna's name.

GravatarThe massacre-a-month phenomena in gun-crazy America will probably be relegated to the "non-news" level of the MSM, just like the war in Iraq has been.

GravatarBob Somerby has pointed out that it is dangerous for Dem politicians to point out the failings of the MCM, and that is a major reason he rails against what there is of lib/prog outlets for not naming names and holding MCMers' feet to the fire.

If a Dem pol does this, the reaction is just what we got from Tweety. They can say whatever they want, and since they are not held accountable, they get away with it. Attack, smear, denigrate, belittle, misstate, truncate...they can do it all.

Please recall that when Bill Clinton said the MCM reporters were not doing a good job of informing the public about Hillary's proposals and Obama's, that's when shit really began to thrown the Clintons' way. The MCM brooks no insubordination from Dem pols.

So, no, Obama himself cannot go after the MCM--nor can his close surrogates. We need media figures who are willing to do so. But, unless the EJDionnes and--help? who else is there???? Unless people with platforms like EJDionne go after their MCM peers, the MCMers are not going to change. They know from where their paychecks come.

Will the magic protect Obama??? I doubt it, but I'm hoping for the best. But, of course, hope is not a plan....

Anyone who would suggest that Va. Tech is a "second tier university" don't know shit.

GravatarWhile MSNBC sucks, they are not the enemy.

umm, they are owned by GE: one of the largest warmongering companies in the world...KO on Moyers was revealing, i don't think KO is as 'Liberal' as I'd wish, he just felt the need to go off on Rummy, and that one time is what catapulted his popularity

GravatarBob Somerby has pointed out that it is dangerous for Dem politicians to point out the failings of the MCM

Let me get this straight. Limbaugh or Bush or Rove goes after the "liberal media", and the MSM fall all over themselves putting David Brooks and William Safire and Bill Kristol and Pat Buchanan and Ann Coulter on their pages and their broadcasts. E.J. Dionne or Obama or either Clinton goes after them, and ... they fall all over themselves pounding on Dionne, Obama or Clinton, and putting on Coulter, Buchanan, Brooks, etc etc etc.

Sorry, but I think Bob Somerby is full of it.

The first lesson of dealing with bullies is: you have to hit 'em back, and much, much harder than they hit you.

It's the Chicago Way. It's the only way that works.

Tell the world that they're lying. Prove that they're lying. Tell their audience: if you listen to these guys, they are going to make fools of you, exactly as they did in 2000. Remember, they told you Bush was gonna be a uniter, that life was gonna be great, that he'd restore honor to the White House. How'd that work out for you?

GravatarMSNBC keeps these people coming because people keep watching to get incensed. It's the oldest trick in the book. There is no bad publicity, and if Ann Coulter, Don Imus, Mike Savage are getting people upset, then someone must be watching to get upset.

If you want to stop this mentality, then the only way is to effect MSNBC's bottom line and the only way to do that is to boycot the advertisers on the shows on which these hateful people appear.

But it is much easier to just complain about them, which gives them more publicity, which means they will be on even more.

GravatarIn the future all students will be educated in their homes by the Internet. Their homes will be secure redoubts surrounded by bullet-proof glass and impregnable walls.

Teachers will report to a "university center" where everyone will be cavity searched for weapons and then allowed into studios from which to deliver their lectures.

This will cut down on the massacres and make America the model of public education once again!

GravatarYeah, they could put guns at stategic locations around large classrooms, in those "break glass in case of emergency" lockers.

The way I pace in class, it wouldn't help me. Hell, I can't even get over the phone and the emergency protocols thingy.

Gravatar.I'm not just being snarky when I say that funamentalist religion is probably the root of the problem.
JR, kerosene and a match

I'd say that shitty educational standards are the rich compost in which all kinds of stupid beliefs and attitudes grow. We do a barely adequate job in this country of identifying exceptionally talented students and training them to do the really hard things. As to the rest, we pretty much let them rot as if education wasn't important for anybody who was not going to be a doctor, a lawyer, or an engineer.

Wow!

It should be the "Dan Hicks" t-shirt.

I mean you really do look like Dan Hicks..... just sayin

GravatarI just saw a clip of Obama yesterday on Clinton's negative campaigning. Here's what he said:

"I understand that Senator Clinton, periodically when she's feeling down, launches attacks as a way of trying to boost her appeal."

"Periodically when she's feeling down?"

Well, that explains it. It must be that time of the month.

Gravatarthe sorriest news outlet:

JON FRIEDMAN'S MEDIA WEB
MSNBC is the 'we're-sorry' news network
Commentary: The out-of-control network needs discipline
Last update: 12:01 a.m. EST Feb. 15, 2008
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Yes, MSNBC consistently has the lowest ratings among the cable news channels. But all is not lost. It does stand out in one underappreciated category: embarrassing, mealy-mouthed apologies.

The latest example of this happened after reporter David Shuster declared that Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign had "pimped out" her only child, Chelsea, who had been calling celebrities and Democratic superdelegates to seek their backing.
Shuster apologized (natch). ...

...But it wasn't the network's first gaffe involving Clinton. Previously, Hardball host Chris Matthews apologized, presumably under corporate pressure, for positing that Clinton had achieved political success because "her husband messed around." Desperately in need of leadership These expressions of contrition seem to occur only after MSNBC has been publicly flogged and needed to repair its image, and they sound (to me) disingenuous and self-serving. ...

Voila! MSNBC could start promoting itself as the "We're sorry" network. To keep up the momentum, it should next apologize to its parent company, General Electric, for its lousy ratings, boorish newsmen and all-around irrelevance.

The network also needs some discipline in its ranks. It could use a top executive with strong ethics and news sense, someone who will take no nonsense from the network's loose cannons and will forcefully remind these "journalists" that their obligation is to inform the public, audition material for a guest spot on "Saturday Night Live's" Weekend Update.

GravatarLook - Fight the battles that we can win, that matter strategically, and that ones that really matter. With MSNBC we only have one out of three of those points.

Praise and ignore the irritants, destroy the real threats.

And sometimes the irritants can still be used to help destroy the real threats.

But I don't know shit so just ignore me like always.

Did he really say that? Bad, bad move, Barack.

GravatarFrom that Alternet article, proving yet again just how stupid the author is:

Speaking of not very nice people, DeKalb's most famous son is Joseph F. Glidden, was the inventor of barbed wire.

GravatarOne of the students killed in Illinois yesterday had been in Iraq.

She finished her tour of duty there and came home to "safe America" to be shot and killed.

Heh, there's a scene in Jarhead where Fergus asks Swof which way to point the claymore.

"Front toward enemy. That might be a clue."

GravatarBut they've already bought the gun locker

If that ain't par for the course.

GravatarDid he really say that?

Of course not.

GravatarI should have posted the whole paragraph:

Speaking of not very nice people, DeKalb's most famous son is Joseph F. Glidden, was the inventor of barbed wire. The university's most famous living graduates, are Dan Castellaneta, the voice actor for Homer Simpson, and slimeball Republican Dennis Hastert, who famously declared after Katrina that certain "neighborhoods" [read: black and poor] should be "bulldozed" rather than rebuilt. So there you have it: DeKalb's most celebrated citizens are a pair of creeps and and the voiceman for the epitomal American loser.

Of course, this article couldn't actually get, you know, published.

GravatarDoesn't anyone use claymores anymore?

I laughed at that one pretty good.

GravatarI didn't like the Alternet article either, but I did notice a good one over there by Barbara Ehrenreich. Obama's Campaign: An Emotional Escape Hatch from the Bush Era
But I don't think any tweakings of the candidate or her message will work, and not because Obama-mania is an occult force or a kind of mass hysteria. Let's take seriously what he offers, which is "change." The promise of "change" is what drives the Obama juggernaut, and "change" means wanting out of wherever you are now. It can even mean wanting out so badly that you don't much care, as in the case of the Ron Paul voters cited above, exactly what that change will be. In reality, there's no mystery about the direction in which Obama might take us: He's written a breathtakingly honest autobiography; he has a long legislative history, and now, a meaty economic program. But no one checks the weather before leaping out of a burning building

GravatarTweety has been THE outstanding smearer and destroyer of Dem pols' reputations since the Clinton administration. Along with the writing skills of MoDo and Frank Rich almost alwasy among most emailed), he did some of the worst hatchet jobs on Dems.

Al Gore? Would do anything to win, including "lick the bathroom floor." Two years of that shit--and Gore won the popular vote, but got tripped up by Theresa LaPore's butterfly ballot and the Supreme Five.

But Tweety and his ilk made the election close enough for that to happen.

Try to imagine what the current primaries would have been like if the MCM had covered the freakin' issues and the pols' policies and proposals? Instead of $400 hair cuts, cackles, auras, straight talk, etc.

Imagine there were issues imagine there were comparisons, contrasts, analysis--imagine news was reality-based, not gossip.

Oh, well. I had hoped the MCM would be better given how badly BushCo and its Wonderfully Awful Adventures turned out. Not happening.

GravatarI guess since my opinions don't fall in line with yours, I'm a troll. Oh well.

I just don't see anything that terrible in what Obama said. Certainly not on the scale of other things that we are seeing from politicians on both sides these days.

Bill Clinton has taken it upon himself to be Hillary's attack dog, and if he can use the coded language of Jesse Jackson to try to say white people just won't vote for a black man, then I think Obama is showing them he can fight them on their own level. At least he isn't Kerry.

Gravatar.Anybody reading PMS into that comment is really reaching. I know you guys want to support Hillary as your chosen candidate, but trying to manufacture some sort of controversy out of this is akin to watching Beevis and Butthead parse dirty words out of common dialog.

Thing is, I voted for Obama and that remark still makes me cringe. He is showing that his his biggest asset, his mouth, is also his biggest vulnerability. I expressed concern about this on these threads before this remark and before I voted for him. He needs to get dopeslapped for this.

Gravatar"'liberal' blogs have moved on but she refuses to see it.

Ummm, huh? Examples?
Zap Rowsdower "

One example would be 'liberal' blogs. See americablog for a specific example. Or openleft. Both upset that the Clinton knee cappers are holding msnbc accountable. See the blog loosely attached to this comment thread. Now how about examples of 'liberal' blogs engaging in their 'main mission'

GravatarActually, don't click on my Homepage above. I'm trying to link to my blog on myspace (which I just started) but having trouble with the link. I just replaced it with a tinyurl link. See if this works...

Gravatar...E.J.

Unfortunately, EJDionne doesn't go after the MCMers who lie, distort, malign, smear, etc.

He may occasionally make a comment about such things happening, but he never tells who does it.

Bcz he wants to stay a member in good standing of the MCM? I don't know.

I agree with Somerby: If Hillary stands up for her daughter and for women in general, she's after the press. She's a kneecapper. She's mean and nasty, etc. Or, worse, she's a whiner. Which is what Dems who point out the MCM's more egregious errors are usually called. WATBs, whiners, can't take the heat, etc.

GravatarSpeaking of crime--NH/VT biggest cover up of 3-4 decades of unsolved murder and missing women and some men. Remember the population is not all that big.
As one family member said either we have 1-3 serial killers or 100s of individual killers. You know they don't want to scare the tourists.

Why you ask the main news will not cover it--their answer is they dont have the time, there is too many cases and it will take days to cover them all.

The map shows the unsolved, click home on the left side of screen and it will show all the missing persons.
