Too bad that hadn't come up sooner when Frist was still in power.

Gravatar"This represents a supply of 9.8 months at the current sales rate."

WE MUST MAKE MORE!

GravatarI got my house, screw the rest of youse.

Ok it'll be my house in about 25 years, but you get the idea.

That is, if I don't get laid off in the meantime.

oh futz.

Gravatar New Home Sales

GravatarHillary For Senate Majority Leader!
The Old Man From Scene 24 |

Hopefully that will mollify her and her supporters.

We'd have a woman House Speaker and a woman Majority Leader.

In eight years, a woman President!!! Amy Clinton for Prez!

GravatarThe median sales price of new houses sold in February 2008 was $244,100; the average sales price was $296,400.

Quite a mismatch, no?

GravatarI've completely reversed my position on which direction real estate prices should take. Don't know why, it just kind of happened....

GravatarThe Bush Administration, where free speech goes to die:

MIAMI -- The Air Force lawyer who quit as chief prosecutor for the Guantanamo Bay war court five months ago because of what he called political interference has asked to leave the U.S. military, he said. Col. Morris D. Davis said he submitted retirement papers last week, because of fallout from his criticism of the Guantanamo court and because of family concerns.

GravatarSpeaking of housing sales, hasn't the White House been for sale these last 7 years?

GravatarIn other words, I ought to be able to go to my local homebuilder, punch him in the face, pee in his coffee, demand that he sell me a new home at 50% off, and expect him to thank me afterwards?

GravatarEr Amy Carter I meant.

Oh futz.

GravatarQuite a mismatch, no?

Lotsa cheap places and a few really, really expensive ones.

GravatarAre there any other McJobs available?

Hmmm, not sure. Lotds of unemployment around here, so there are plenty of adults working these gigs. And a lot of positions are closed because she's not 18 for two more months.

I think she should apply at Lowe's, myself. She's good with tools.

GravatarIn other words, I ought to be able to go to my local homebuilder, punch him in the face, pee in his coffee, demand that he sell me a new home at 50% off, and expect him to thank me afterwards?

and make them sign the contract in their own blood. You forgot that.

GravatarLast night, someone posted an article claiming that US soldiers had been captured by the resistance. Does anybody have anything on that?

GravatarStill flat

Just like the jobs for union auto workers or steel workers, or machinists or textile workers or IT CAREERISTS or honest politicians.

But it really hurts the important people in our economy who make money off of other peoples money and that is TRULY bad.

GravatarIn other words, I ought to be able to go to my local homebuilder, punch him in the face, pee in his coffee, demand that he sell me a new home at 50% off, and expect him to thank me afterwards?

Highly unusual negotiating tactics but in this climate they might work.

You can do it with the owners of existing homes too. If you have some money, now is the best time to buy a house in 20 years.

Could be, I don't know. Our mortgage broker was recommended to us by multiple firends, and we got a pretty good deal, applying right as the lower FNMA conforming limits were hitting in CA.

GravatarAnyone know if drop in home sales is leading to real estate agents lowering their [rather exhorbitant] commissions?

The inventory ffigure in the clip posted was 471,000 but this was single-family homes. What's the number look like if you include condos, townhomes etc.?

Gravatarits all billarys fault.

GravatarNYT Op-ed:
John McCain’s politics are best understood as a decade-long attack on the individual.

...in both legislation and rhetoric, Mr. McCain has consistently sought to restrict the very freedoms he once exercised, in the common national enterprise of “serving a cause greater than self-interest.”

Such sentiment can sound stirring coming from a lone citizen freely choosing public service. But from a potential president, Mr. McCain’s exaltation of sacrifice over the private pursuit of happiness — “I did it out of patriotism, not for profit,” he snarled to Mitt Romney during the final Republican presidential debate — reflects a worryingly militaristic view of citizenship.

“We are fast becoming a nation of alienating individualists, unwilling to put the unifying values of patriotism ahead of our narrow self-interests,” Mr. McCain warned in a speech during his 2000 presidential campaign. He added that “cynicism threatens to become a ceiling on our greatness.”

Where there are threats to national greatness, there are activities that Mr. McCain insists the federal government should curtail. And the most maverick individuals among us are destined to bear the brunt.

Teenagers are cynical about professional sports because of steroids (a “transcendent issue,” Mr. McCain once thundered in the Senate), so he has proposed that the government be given the authority to demand that even Division II college athletes be subject to the personal intrusion of random drug testing and punishment. Likewise, because betting on college sports could make one cynical about games possibly being thrown, Mr. McCain wanted to make that a federal offense.

The senator’s ideas for “reform” — taxing cigarettes, banning ultimate fighting, giving the president a line-item veto — typically empower the executive branch at the expense of American citizens and their representatives.

Gravatar"Why the hell not, except that you want to see her crushed and destroyed and driven from public life and, if you can manage it, life on earth?"

little over the top. i just want her to stop campaigning like a republican, and for bill to shut the fuck up and go back to playing golf with the chimp's pappy.

i don't think it would be wise to make her majority leader if obama wins.

Gravatar[Cheney] It's good that home sales are stable because it gives people more time to spend on E-bay in their new economy jobs [/Cheney]

GravatarAnyone know if drop in home sales is leading to real estate agents lowering their [rather exhorbitant] commissions?

No idea. A sister of one of my friends started her own real estate biz about ten years ago, and over the years has brought almost all her sisters to work in it. (There's six of them.) They left positions as nurses and engineers to do this.

God knows what will happen to them.

How unimaginative. There are so many ways to screw a borrower that loan brokers should strive to have their vic... client thanking them until after the ink is dry.

Probably because in built-out areas with strong fundamantals, demand is beginning to rebound because of lower prices. All those tacky developments by the freeways in outlying areas are still in freefall though.

GravatarI get tired of hearing how Obama/Clinton are six of one/half dozen of the other. Obama's proposals include much more govrnment transparency to keep voters involved and give us voice in the processes. His proposal for addressing the mortgage crisis includes community activists and representatives of various interested parties. Clinton doesn't talk about how to encourage populist involvement beyond getting voters to the polls. Her proposal for the crisis is to get a bunch of shriveled wizards together to wave their magic wands.

To me these are huge differences in anticipating what the future direction of the country might be.

We tend to do that with all our candidates. If they don't win, fuck them forever. We saw it with Kerry, with Edwards, I see no reason why Jimmy Carter shouldn't run again, especially since I don't think we appreciated him enough the first time around, etc. They keep their candidates around until they're crazy and senile, but we give ours one shot and then chuck them out the window.

I'm not saying in another eight years I'd like Hillary any more than I do, but there's no real reason to count somebody out just because they've run once.

I know people have calculated this eight ways to Sunday and decided it's not possible, but I really hate that Michigan and Florida were disenfranchised. It breaks my heart, and a country that claims to be a democracy has no business shrugging their shoulders over that many voices not being heard.

It's heartbreaking.

Let's see:

a) I'm not voting for McCain in November, or any Republican.

b) This is the primary, not the general. If Hillary is trying to win my support for her candidacy, should she somehow manage to win the nomination (a very unlikely result at this point, simply looking at the math), this isn't the way to do it.

c) So Hillary's point is to win the nomination? Or to be sure the Dems defeat McCain? These have become two disparate goals, and she keeps moving them farther and farther away from each other. Being "thin-skinned" has nothing to do with being disgusted with Hillary's latest tactics.

Those were the rules. The states knew it when they repositioned their primaries. They're big boys and girls, and obviously hoped they would prevail. They didn't.

Maybe I was a lawyer for too long, but my sympathies for them are rather attenuated on this point. Then there's the fact Hillary and Obama signed pledges not to campaign there, but now Hillary wants to ignore that pledge. Basic tenet of contract law: you made a promise, you're held to it. Be careful what promise you make next time.

Frankly, I'd feel the same way if Texas was in the position of Florida or Michigan. I'd blame the state party, not the national one.

It's called representative democracy. Perhaps you've heard of it?

GravatarOn the other hand, watertiger, Megan is unlikely to be asked in public about Vicki Iseman or Cindy, now with pill-poppin' action.

Gravatarb) This is the primary, not the general. If Hillary is trying to win my support for her candidacy, should she somehow manage to win the nomination (a very unlikely result at this point, simply looking at the math), this isn't the way to do it.

There is a very real possibility that neither will end up with the required 2025 of delegates.
Then what?
This won't be a problem if Obama supports revotes in MI and FLA. There won't be any doubt then because all the delegates would be involved.
Why wouldn't Obama supporters want a clear resolution to this if they are so confident in what the results would be?

GravatarYou don't think everyone wants hot sex? Then why the hell are we throwing a Con?
Molly Ivors

Yeah, yeah, rub it in for those of us who can't be there....

GravatarThose were the rules. The states knew it when they repositioned their primaries. They're big boys and girls, and obviously hoped they would prevail. They didn't./i

I understand that, but shrugging one's shoulders over disenfranchisement is an ethical problem for me, no matter why it happened.

GravatarThis won't be a problem if Obama supports revotes in MI and FLA.

Obama controls the legislatures? Obama has the funds ready to go to pay for these primaries? Obama runs the Democratic party, and controls access to all the sources of money?

You really don't know what you're talking about, do you?

GravatarGah, my slanties are spreading!

Well, like I said, maybe I was a lawyer for too long....

GravatarFYI, my, err, "cousin" got hisself a WGG style vacation from Eschaton on Monday night. Seems he was so frikken pissed off after watching Frontline that he spoke as if he might become a potential John Hinkley someday in the future. Took the Webmaster less than a minute to delete his comment and ban him.

He is, of course Bad.

GravatarElias will you support the democratic nominee, whoever that is?
krsaz

Absolutely.
And you?

There's one think I want more than Obama to win. And that's for the fascist to lose. If that means HRC has a better chance, then why wouldn't fellow Dems agree? Especially when aggregate polling has consistently shown that HRC does better against Insane in the McCain than BO.

Instead, it's a foregone conclusion that it's over and HRC should step aside. If that's not the definition of elitism, what is?

Elias's March madness.

You just typed that, and was going on about how Fl, and Mi were disenfranchised?

What you are saying, is that because Obama is your choice, the remaining people who have yet to vote, don't deserve to?
