SP. I'm here. Just thought I'd be nice this morning and let spinoza comment before me.

GravatarAye.

Sanchez also said that we should stay in Iraq because of the Pottery Barn rule.

Not cool.

GravatarAck! Grits!
.

GravatarWell, it's yet to get to 70°F inside the Curly Condo... dang.
.

GravatarBut Sanchez did a heck of a job!

GravatarTBogg reads the wingnuts so you don't have to:

The Lefts New Drummer Boy

The man who led coalition forces in Iraq from 2003 through 2004, the man who was in charge during Abu Ghraib and canned for it, now finds fault with how Bush conducted the war. What a surprise...

The man did not deserve a fourth star because his leadership of the armed forces during his time there was terrible. Is it any wonder why he is now talking trash? The surge is working, the situation in Iraq is improving, and now this man wants to portray Iraq as a failure, and blame it all on Bush. It's not a failure, it's working. And any good leader understands when a tactic doesn't work he adapts and changes. Bush understood this and canned Sanchez. After some fits and starts he found Petreaus and the rest is history.

To find Grant Lincoln had to go through the likes of McClellan.

That is a good leader.

Sanchez obviously was a capable leader but not up to the task at hand and was replaced. He feels insulted so now goes on the offensive with this baloney...

Pretty predicatable...

GravatarToo bad he didn't have the courage to speak up when it would have mattered.
spinoza

exactly. color me wholly unimpressed.

GravatarYes, the guy who quit over Abu Ghraib (well, was forced to resign) has "seen the light."

I'm still trying to process that one...

we must do a southern brekky SOON!!!

Gravatarwow. sort of blown away by this, even as i knew it was true. 2000 people murdered in two years. by whom? why, the cops arresting them, of course.

And listening to calls with the police and the husband of that lady that died at the airport is pissing me off to no end. Fuck your investigation, when a dude is calling you about his wife in your custody - tell him she has died already!

GravatarJM has this posted:
What might be called The Revolt of the Generals has rarely happened in the nation's history.

In op-ed pieces, interviews and TV ads, more than 20 retired U.S. generals have broken ranks with the culture of salute and keep it in the family. Instead, they are criticizing the commander in chief and other top civilian leaders who led the nation into what the generals believe is a misbegotten and tragic war.

GravatarMornin', patriotz.

Let this be a lesson to you: tug-of-war can be hazardous to your health.

Students were holding a pep rally in the gym in advance of a homecoming game tonight. During the event, senior members of the football team were competing against the junior members in a tug-of-war.

During the contest, the right hands of two of the junior players were partially severed. It was not clear how many students were involved in the tug-of-war, or how the injuries occurred.

GravatarSanchez also said that we should stay in Iraq because of the Pottery Barn rule.

I appreciate having our foreign policy grounded in teh ethics of upscale retail outlets.

Your other fave, Scarlett Johannson, is in it, too...

GravatarSo,

Which freeptard has called him a traitor?

GravatarToo bad he didn't have the courage to speak up when it would have mattered.

seriously.

You're against this war?  You think it's a miserable failure?  Then FUCKING SAY SO BEFORE WE'RE FIVE YEARS IN!

GravatarHe sure isn't going to let the military take the blame for this. The repubs, most of them never having served in the military, totally expected the military to win in Iraq and Afghanistan because it had better toyz and a better-trained force.

Of course, these morons failed to understand these countries or read history.

No more DLC Democrats!!!

BTW -- heard Will Durst talking to Rachel Maddow on AAR last night.

Their conclusion: Hillary is running a brilliant campaign.

As a Republican candidate.

I think if we're all honest here, we'd have to agree....

Gravatarit's not just the minnesota national guard:

Iowa Guard soldiers shortchanged
Soldiers must serve 730 days to receive full benefits; many troops are scheduled for only 725 to 729 days.

By JANE NORMAN
REGISTER WASHINGTON BUREAU
October 13, 2007
Washington, D.C. - More than 500 members of the Iowa National Guard have been shortchanged on their GI Bill education benefits, and two Iowa congressmen and the state's governor are pressing the Army to move quickly to fix the problem.

Members of the Guard's 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry, most of them from northeast Iowa, returned last summer from a nearly two-year deployment in Iraq.

The soldiers are members of the so-called "Ironman Battalion," which has served longer in Iraq than any other U.S. military combat unit. The Iowa soldiers were scheduled to return home earlier in the year, but their tour of duty was extended as part of the buildup of troops ordered by President Bush.

GravatarSo,

Which freeptard has called him a traitor?

Slamclik has.

Gravatar WHAT WE MISSED THE PAST SEVEN YEARS

"Gore was such a consummate scientist that he would keep asking and asking and asking deeper and deeper questions until at one point Jim Baker of NOAA and I ran back to our seats to go back through textbooks to get the answers," Bierbaum said. "It was both exhilarating and exhausting to be part of his science team."

GravatarWhich freeptard has called him a traitor?

All of them???

GravatarSo Steverino, did you hear the news that Eva Mendes is supposed to play Sand Saref in Miller's upcoming "Spirit" movie?

dave™© | Homepage | 10.13.07 - 9:47 am | #

I assume she's playing the Commisioner's daughter, or whoever the Spirit's girlfriend was?

BTW -- Miller's doing it?

I don't think he'll exactly get the tongue in cheek thing...

GravatarI understand what you're saying, DWD. But I find it insulting that you say we're "illusionists".

That's all.

GravatarYou mean Bush isn't a consummate scientist?

Gravatarhec's right. these leaves are too dead to make a pile on their own so i better go. enjoy your saturday, batz.

GravatarWhile I think it's great that he's speaking out now, I'm hoping that progressives can use this opportunity to highlight wrongdoings that happened under his command and give him only qualified praise for speaking out (that is, commend him for speaking out, but demand that he provide full details about Abu Ghraib, etc., and ask why he didn't speak out earlier).

Wikipedia has this interesting note, "Sanchez called the ACLU: "...a bunch of sensationalist liars, I mean lawyers, that will distort any and all information that they get to draw attention to their positions.""

GravatarSpeculation that the French president Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Cécilia are shortly to announce their divorce intensified in France last night following reports that Mrs Sarkozy was lying low abroad.

The French regional newspaper L'Est Républicain wrote on its website yesterday that the couple's "separation and divorce" would be made public imminently.

Quoting unnamed sources at the Elysée palace, the paper said: "Things should move pretty quickly," adding that divorce papers would be filed at a court in Nanterre, a Paris suburb.

Gravatarspeaking of police state

what's up with that not guilty verdict in the beating death of a "bootcamp" detainee?

Jesus mother of unnatural abberations! they got the guys pounding and kicking his ass on film and then they got a cadaver? where's the question? is it okay to brutally kill someone if they are incarcerated in your bootcamp toughlove enterprise
Oopsie don't cut it! I mean really!

GravatarI don't think he'll exactly get the tongue in cheek thing...
steve simels

If this poster is any indication, I'm sticking with The Spirit I know; not Miller's version.

Gravatarre WE OWN THE NIGHT:

Forgetting the Eva Mendez sex scene (difficult, admittedly)

it's got the most amazing car chase I've seen in years. If it's still possible to have a car chase scene that's original, this one's it.

Totally real, none of that CGI crap.

Shot totally in a pouring green rain...

Scary as hell.

GravatarOh...here's a great, in depth Freeper opinion:

The opinion of a guy who hasn't been in Iraq for 3 years really isn't that relevant.

But the opinion of a 'guy' that's never been to Iraq is more relevant?

GravatarTurkish troops and Kurdish fighters have exchanged gunfire in the Turkish town of Unuderi close to the Turkey-Iraq border.

The gunfight came as the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) said its fighters are moving from northern Iraq back into southern Turkey where they intend to target the country's politicians.

The announcement by the rebel group fighting for an independent homeland in southeastern Turkey came as the Turkish government prepared to seek permission from parliament to carry out a cross-border offensive against the PKK.

GravatarDebbie Schussel defends Ann Coulter by saying that Donnie Deutch is lying about his religious status. How does she know? Deutch's show is live on Saturdays, the Jewish Sabbath, and a practicing Jew would not work on the Sabbath because that is the most important Commandment for a religious Jew.

Yikes! I mean, for Christians or Jews, I would think that none are more important than others but if they were then that First one would probably take priority. But I'm stupid.

Gravatar
But the opinion of a 'guy' that's never been to Iraq is more relevant?

Evan Almighty
The Longest Yard (2005)

Fantastic Four: Return of the Silver Surfer

... none of which I've seen. Any recommendations?

GravatarZap,

We ALL have illusions. (Maybe you do not, but I doubt it.) Hell, I have my share. I believe I am a decent writer. I believe I am a decent human being. I believe that what I do for a living makes a difference. I believe that the world will probably get better. And on and on.

But are all of these things true? I can't say and neither can you. Whether they are true or not is something that cannot be known. We live our lives as testaments to our beliefs. Perhaps, some day, our beliefs will reach reality. Perhaps not.

But I do know that reality is harsh and we are avoiding the harsh in the best ways we can because it is uncomfortable. We all do it. Some of us try to avoid ignoring this reality, but we still do our best to find a way to cope, because if we did not we would all just turn into sad, blubbering idiots over the sadness and indifference in this fucked up world.

So, not to pick a fight or anything, we are all living illusions. Some of us more than others because without some form of illusion we are laid bare to the cold and terrible knives of reality.
