WASHINGTON - The actress who played Wonder Woman on TV in the 1970s says she didn't do anything extraordinary when she discovered a body this week on the Potomac River in Washington.
Lynda Carter tells The Washington Post she was alone in a boat when she saw the body Wednesday. She says she didn't have a cell phone with her, so she yelled to some fishermen and asked them to call police. Carter waited until rescuers arrived and directed them to the body.
She is the first African-American woman to become the U.S. secretary of state. She advises the leader of the world's largest superpower and has an unparalleled level of trust with and access to the president. And she has served two other U.S. presidents, George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. For all of these reasons, and more, Rice, 50, is the most powerful woman in the world.
After a four-year role as national security adviser, Rice assumed the mantle of secretary of state in January. Rice has played a key, behind-the-scenes role in all of President George W. Bush's major decisions. "During the last four years, I've relied on her counsel, benefited from her great experience and appreciated her sound and steady judgment," the president said when announcing Rice's promotion. Bush needs her now more than ever, as his approval ratings and credibility sag, his domestic agenda is stalled, and the country grows more bitterly divided over the war in Iraq.
With her steely nerve and delicate manners (she has been called the "Warrior Princess"), Rice lately has reinvigorated her position with diplomatic activism, whether it's promoting Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip to ease the Palestinian conflict, or encouraging six-party talks to get North Korea to stop its pursuit of nuclear weapons, or trying to stop Sudan's genocide—to the point where her diplomatic party was recently roughed up by Sudan's strongmen. Rice also has close relationships with world leaders, having accompanied the president on numerous trips to Europe and Iraq. Rice has visited 31 countries and logged in over 119,000 miles by midyear. An unofficial Web site proclaims, "Condoleezza Rice for President 2008," which might be a long-shot idea. But a run by Rice for the presidency would make history in the U.S.

Delayed But Gracious Clinton Exit Leaves Fractured Party
But the somber faces that turned out to see Clinton end her campaign -- and the scattered boos that greeted her mentions of Obama's name -- suggested the lengths to which both Clinton and Obama must go to move beyond the battles of the longest primary season in history. - ABC News

She's an important part of our history.
Yeah, she's "a part of our history" but Hillary's bid for the Presidency was not part of some focused lifelong "struggle" on her part to achieve rights for women.
It's about her struggle to become famous and powerful. She happens to be a woman.
It's like arguing about Jimmy Carter's struggle to show that our nation's peanut farmers can be president's too.
People still read newspapers/watch the Bobbleheads on Sundays.
It's not about "old media", it's about a new narrative.

Then we're in luck, Charles Gibson has been nearly reverential in his conversation about Obama lately. Whetever the wind blows in that strikes an emotional non-thinking chord, they'll pander to. It's the stuff the talking heads are made of. And that was my point about the MSM, we can't rely on them to switch into thoughtful consideration of much of anything.

When Shirley Chisholm ran in 1972, I thought the same thing. The sixties had already happened; this world of discrimination was behind us. Of course we'd have a woman president soon. Thirty-six years later it shouldn't be time for baby steps anymore. The whole primary was pitched in a dumbed-down way by the media and it's not, and should never have been viewed as a contest between women and African-Americans, a group that intersects. But the idea that Hilary's campaign bodes a new world for women, I'm just not seeing that anymore. Shirley Chisholm said, "The next time a woman runs, or a black, a Jew or anyone from a group that the country is 'not ready' to elect to its highest office, I believe that he or she will be taken seriously from the start." I'm not sure that that is what I just saw.

As a very liberal boomer female, I feel free to say this is nonsense. All you PCers seem to feel obliged to claim she was the victim of some huge amount of sexism, that she's somehow a feminist, and that she broke some supposed barrier. Has it somehow escaped notice that the Speaker of the House and president of Harvard are female, that we have had an increasing number of prominent female senators and governors and CEOs? That most candidates--and certainly Democratic ones--are subject to stupid criticism by the media of their looks, clothes, etc.? We didn't need Hillary and her nepotism--and her plagiarism of Edwards's health care plan and of untold lines and themes from Obama. In the interest of some bow to Democratic comity, I won't go on.
