GravatarThorpe ended the segment noting that Pfotenhauer was appearing via satellite from Northern Virginia. “Nancy Pfotenhauer, senior policy adviser for the McCain campaign, joining us from Arlington, not really Virginia.” “Alright, I’m just gonna let ya– you’ll wear that one,” Cork responded.

That's great. Good for Cork, whoever he is.

This is SteveLG, on his lunch break from Arlington, not really Virginia. Over and out.

GravatarGood ol' Nancy Fartinwhore, Republican Dumbass. Hey Nance, does the word MACACA ring a bell? Wake up your boss and ask him about that.

GravatarThe loyal wingnut storm-troopers are throwing distraction flash grenades. They need to wildly grab attention to keep everyone from having a worthwhile or substantial debate about real issues. It's what desperate and dishonorable people do.

Suddenly everyone is talking about that Pro-American thug Joe the Plumber, which wastes a few days. Sarah Palin herself is a walking, talking distraction tactic.

The Republicans have a huge need to distract people right now. They have to keep everyone from looking at the miserable failure known as President Bush, and keep people from noticing that McCain and Palin are going down in flames.

GravatarGotta love how yahoos like Nancy Pfotenhauer, Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin think they are qualified to determine who or who is not a "real American".

Their arrogance is exceeded only by their stupidity.

GravatarTwo America's anyone?

GravatarIf there were someone I'd like to throw under a train, it would be GOP shill Brad Blakeman.

GravatarSo, to paraphrase:

But the rest of the country — real America if you will — I think will be very responsive to Senator McCain’s message.

Real America, I take to be, this part of the Country that’s more Southern in nature, if you will.

Thanks for clearing that up, Nancy. The Republican Party is now a regional power.

The Incredible Shrinking Party.

GravatarBrought up from below:

Jeff Merkley leads Gordon Smith by a margin of 47 to 41. That's up from 45 to 40 just three weeks ago.

Got my ballot yesterday. I will, of course, be voting Merkley.

Great ad from the DSCC I saw during Letterman last night...Gordon Smith trying to tell us he's in the corner with the disembodied heads of Teddy Kennedy, Ron Wyden, and Barack Obama when he's really in a different corner: the one with the disembodied heads of George Bush and Dick Cheney!

Well, Jesus was a Jew. St.Paul and St. James, two founders of Christianity, were not all that sure that Christianity simply wasn't Judaism, stripped for export to the Greeks. So, it appears that there at least two paths that lead to God. Dig a little bit deeper and you might find at least one more faith that embraces the Old and New Testament.

The trouble with history from a fundie point of view is that it complicates their one-dimensional message.

GravatarMr. President, I would not rule out preserving a nucleus of humankind.

GravatarIt's still funny

Funny....in a disturbing sort of way.

GravatarI think the McCain campaign must be stuck in some kind of strange cheap-Sci-Fi-channel-movie-type-time warp, where they are living 24-36 hours behind the rest of America. They are still throwing out Joe the Plumber at the rallies to their brain-dead supporters, even tho Joe is a dick who won't pay his taxes, doesn't have the income or savings to buy a business, and will do better economically under an Obama presidency. But this has been happening since the beginnings of this race. Look at the strange "celebrity" ads after Obama's successful overseas tour. I don't know about some people, but the idea of 200,000 Germans waving American flags doesn't seem like a bad image to me - I mean, when was the last time that happened, when Kennedy went to Europe? Many have complained about how the Obama campaign was always holding back, but now I think I see part of the strategy: the attacks that McCain wasted his money on the last couple of months don't resonate anymore, and with Obama rolling in dough the airwaves are going to be wallpapered with Obama ads right before the election, including the half-hour ad buys in prime time on October 29th (which, in case you didn't know, is the 79th anniversary of Black Tuesday, the big stock market crash that helped usher in the Great Depression), and these ads are going to be in the minds of the electorate on November 4th.
Oh, and on undecided voters: I believe (altho I have no empirical, scientific proof) that about 15% of them are absolute brainless fucktards, while the other 85% just tell the pollsters to go fuck themselves because they don't think it's anybody else's business who they are going to vote for.

GravatarRemind anyone of a certain democratic primary candidate's evaluation of which states count?

And we all know how that turned out.

GravatarIan Faith, McCain / Palin campaign manager, countered notions that McCain's message is unpopular.

but paperless electronic machines are not ubiquitous any more. and the electoral map is leaning so hard toward obama, the most they will be able to do is cut down the magnitude of the landslide. or so i hope.

plus, the reality is that no one - NO ONE - really wants a president mccain. at least, no one with the power to make that happen. they want a pre-damaged obama presidency to clean up some of the mess and take all of the blame.

i think it will backfire, tho. obama will surprise them (and maybe even me) by being effective, pulling us at least back from the brink, and proving that the country can prosper under a back president. and, by tarring him as "the most liberal" senator in the history of the universe, they weaken their own argument against any future liberals when he does.

"I took a lot of flack from my own side in late 2004 (or was it early 2005?) when I purged this site of those I called "fraudsters" -- people who blamed our 2004 loss on voting machines and other Republican trickery. While there was systemic disenfranchisement of our voters in key states (like Ken Blackwell's Ohio), no Diebold trickery was needed to steal that election. Yet the obsession on those conspiracy theories by too many detracted from the true reform our party needed to undertake before it could win again.

How could we cleanse our party of corrosive and defeatist DLC and Third Way influences if people thought our electoral problems could be fixed by simply replacing Diebold machines with paper ballots?" - Kos

GravatarThere are about 10-12 different kinds of voting equipment, and most states have a mix of all of them. It's a county decision.

well, diebold wasn't the only one with problems, either. and, miraculously, EVERY irregularity that was discovered favored republicans. the laws of probability say that was no accident.

and even if some favored dems - still a huge problem. secret software, poor security, lack of audit - all very bad. it is a serious issue.

but it is harder to steal a landslide than a squeeker. except that a landslide electorally could still be a squeeker by vote counts. so vigilence is called for.

all in all, i stick with my original prediction. this one won't be stolen. it will be smeared.

One of the things that amazes me about ATMs is their stunning accuracy. In 20+ years of using ATMS all over the world, never, not once, has an ATM accidentally dispensed too much money to me. I bet Joe the Plumber wants to buy the business beause he believes the boss doesn't do any work.

I enjoyed hearing him explain to reporters that his plan to buy the business was basically he and the owner occasionally discussing his taking it over some day eventuallyish.

In other words, like the rest of his story, lotta crap.
JeffCO | 10.18.08 - 3:16 pm | #

Sammy is instructive though, because he is their base. He's a ditto head, a dolt, Ralph Kramden without the heart of gold (you know that has him dragging the dog Alice got back to the pound, coming home with it and four more).

He has no idea what it takes to get even a small business, yielding 50-100K of income, going. He's done nothing to improve himself, hasn't licensed himself, probably gets paid partly off the books, chisels here and there, and thinks he's some kinda ambitious smart guy with a plan. It's kinda amorphous, and mostly consists of saying "hell yeah" at Hannity on the teevee.

he doesn't know what 250K is, even. He's the flip side of the lady (and there is no shortage of them, judging by the lottery ads) who thinks it's an inexhaustible sum. His tenuous, narcissitic grasp on reality is crippling, but he has no clue how crippling it is. He thinks he's a hardheaded realist, when in fact he's living in Mr. Micawber's fantasy world.

GravatarWhat right does a Republican have in talking about "real" Americans. Every single Republican from McCain on down to my Fundiban neighbor is a traitor, pure and simple. The Republican Party opposes every single element of the DoI, Consitution, the Enlightenment that made those possible, and God Himself. As such, their existence and activities are treasonous by defintion. McCain is, not, nor has he ever been, a hero - his "maverickness" is simply another way to say "traitorness". Heck, his mother is a traitor for not smothering him at birth. His children are traitors for carrying his genes.* His father's remains should be dug up and thrown into the middle of the Atlantic for siring such a traitor as John McCain. Same for Palin and her brood - Trig should not have been aborted for having Downs, but because his very genes make him a traitor to America (same goes for Bristol's spawnling - anti-American at a genetic level).

* The only crime the North Vietnamese made was to not kill him - the 5 years of torture was too good for the likes of McCain

GravatarThe iconic Joe Wurzelbacher from Holland, Ohio, has captured the imaginations of many in McCain's crowds, which were waving posters with tributes to the plumber here.

McCain said he thought he did "pretty well" in last Wednesday's debate, but he said the real winner was Joe the plumber.

"Joe won because he's the only person to get a real answer out of Sen. Obama," said McCain, who spoke to Wurzelbacher on Friday and invited him to campaign with him. "Congratulations, Joe, that's an impressive achievement."

And he chastised the Obama campaign for criticizing Wurzelbacher, who met Obama when the candidate went door-knocking in his neighborhood recently.

"Let me remind you my friends, Joe didn't ask for Senator Obama to come to his house and Joe didn't ask to be famous - but he is," McCain said, chuckling. "He certainly didn't ask for the political attacks on him by the Obama campaign. Remarkable isn't it? Remarkable."

It was Wurzelbacher who managed to learn what Obama's real plans are, McCain suggested.

"We learned that Senator Obama's economic goal is, as he told Joe, is to quote 'spread the wealth around.' He believes in redistributing wealth, not in policies that grow our economy and create jobs and opportunities for all Americans," said McCain.

Obama needs to get around to as many cities as possible, all in swing states. Garner gi-huge-ic crowds like he did in St. Louis. And simply make a commercial, for airing in the final days, that is a montage of him speaking to these crowds, these ungodly crowds, the name of each city question floating up on the screen.

Who cares what weak GOP response would follow about 'celebrity?'

Any voter whose mind is still not made up NEEDS TO SEE an ad like that, the music swelling, hearing Obama's words of course but the teeming crowds in St. Louis and Richmond and Pittsburgh and Philly and Denver and Raleigh, city after cit,y would be the real stars of the ad, mesmerizing the undecideds with the overwhelming desire to be part of something so huge.

I think he is lonely, being 39 and not married can do that.

GravatarThe numbers on McCranky's rallies are hard to pin down -- the campaign has repeatedly inflated the numbers the media have seen at the same event.

It's incredible that these purely accidental errors ALWAYS FAVOR THE REPIGS. If you were insanely suspicious, you might suspect that something underhanded is going on.

GravatarIf we cut corporate welfare out of the federal budget, we would have enough to fund the schools and provide health care as a right to all of our citizens. - the ruester

But, but, but, you'd be cutting our defense budget! [/pearl clutch

How the hell to we cure this country of the institutional psychosis that drives us to spend more on war-related activity than the rest of the world combined. (Think that's correct. What's the annual budget of the #2 [insert alQeada joke] military spender.

Uncle Sam is the world's gun nut uncle.

Or some bad mexican food.

GravatarI despise terrorist because they push their change through intimidation as an extension of their physical violence. The intention of a terror campaign is to make Joe Six-Pack think that the presently constituted social and political structure cannot keep them safe and secure. They preach hate and fear and commit acts of violence to reinfore those fears. I am coming to believe that a terror campaign can be invoked without physical violence, but with verbal abuse. How many of us can deny that for the past six years there has not been an intention of the political power structure of this nation to scare and hold out the threat of impending violence as a psychological warfare tool against our own populace.
Socialism does not frighten the thoughtful intelligent person as much as fascism.

GravatarI did not realise that Louise McKinney's home was in Claresholm.  She was one of the Famous Five Alberta women who got the Privy Council to declare that 'women were persons in the BNA Act' and could be appointed to the Senate.  Pretty famous lady - and a darned nice municipal museum.  I wonder if I could get myself appointed curator there?
Then, I could haz this house!

GravatarI may be late on this but....from Americablog

Via the Minnesota Independent we learn that a McCain/Palin supporter compared Obama to mass murderer Charles Manson during a rally for First Dude Todd Palin and Republican Senator Norm Coleman (who is about to lose to Al Franken) in Minnesota. And, as usual, no one at the McCain/Palin rally did a thing about it.

Oh, I was gonna slip in something about the antirationality of such an ad, while adding that who cares, imagery, especially imagery as faithful as the simple showing a huge enthusiastic crowd, is utterly fair game.

You probably already know I don't give the slightest fuck about your pseudo-dedication to truth and beauty, you worthless asshole. Your candidate just equated ACORN with an attempt to subvert democracy the likes of which have never before been seen.

And don't respond to this hoping to engage in some round-and-round discussion of that made-up controversy, in which you would pretend the actual facts didn't exist and I'd exhaust myself trying to convince someone who never intended to discuss it honestly. You're part someone who believes the rightwing nazi horseshit, part someone who thinks he's putting something over on other people. Equal parts dimwit and wannabe-devious scumbag.

Gotta go, but you have a good day!

rootless-e, wildly optimistic | 10.18.08 - 4:23 pm

That's the same kind of reasoning I get from the In-Laws-To-Be. They basically believe all politicians are evil, but that the Republicans are somehow going to save them in the long run. The abortion/gays issue is big with them, but when I bring up that the Republicans have basically done nothing on either of those fronts, they seem to believe it is the fault of the system, rather than the party.

Gravatardeemed the planet's happiest populace, the Danes have practiced socialism since the 1920's and have crafted what they call a "concensus society" the rethugs consider them enslaved.

GravatarThis week, Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), Barack Obama (D-IL), and Joe Biden (D-DE) all were contacted by Defense Secretary Robert Gates or Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice regarding the Iraq security agreement.

In today’s White House press briefing, spokesman Dana Perino explained that the adminstration contacted the candidates “to keep them equitably informed.” “One of them is going to win the election, and they will be taking over and having to deal with these issues,” Perino explained. But nobody called Gov. Sarah Palin. In today’s State Department briefing, reporters got a chuckle out of Palin being left out:

GravatarThrough the miracle of modern video, we can all pause during the smiley parts of these interviews and just ponder, "When is it okay to say mean things about people, while you have a big smile on your face?" Because apparently, sometiimes it's okay.

GravatarSomebody upthread accused me of being a Republican - I am not; I am an American. Just because I refuse to cower and lick the scotum of Republicans like Democrats do, somehow thinking teabagging a rabid dog is going to save their asses.

Republicans explicitly oppose what America stands for - freedom, equality, deomocracy. They do this because of the way they think. They think that way because their brain chemistry causes them to think that way. Their brain chemistry is based on their genes. Republicans are therefore traitors at a genetic level. They are not, nor can they be, Americans, because their genes dictate they exist as traitors. This is not to say conservatives are traitors, nor to say Democrats can't be traitors - but it does mean anyone who is Republican is, and that that genetic defect carries on to their spawn. It is better to destroy that virus than to let it spread to actual Americans.

Unfortunately, too many Americans carry some recessive form of the genes to acknowledge the fact that we kicked anti-American Loyalists out of the country after the Revolution and we need to do the same to Republicans. Of course, the easy way to do this would be to quarantine the South and then nuke it until you could see the glow from Pluto - after all, the only decent thing to come out of the South was Sherman after burning Atlanta - and even he is tainted, since he refused to burn the rest of the region to a cinder like any good, patriotic American should have done.
