Baxter makes roughly half of the United States supply of heparin, which is used widely for surgical and dialysis patients. Problems with Baxter’s heparin were first noticed late last year when four children undergoing dialysis in Missouri had severe allergic reactions minutes after being injected with the drug.
The F.D.A. then allowed Baxter to deliver heparin that it was in the midst of shipping, for fear that a total recall would lead to a shortage of the drug, but cautioned doctors to use as little of it as possible and to administer it very slowly.

WASHINGTON — The order by President Bush for the Navy to launch an antimissile interceptor to destroy a disabled satellite before it falls from orbit carries opportunity, but also potential embarrassment, for the administration and advocates of its missile defense program.
The decision was described by senior officials as designed solely to protect populated areas from space debris, and not to showcase how the emerging missile defense arsenal could be reprogrammed to counter an unexpected threat: in this case hazardous rocket fuel aboard the dead satellite.
Even so, the attempt, expected within the next two weeks, will again throw into sharp relief the administration’s antipathy to treaties limiting antisatellite weapons, which puts the United States opposite China and Russia, which just this week proposed a new pact banning space weapons.

Syria Denies Joint Iran Investigation
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Syria denied Iranian claims that the two countries would conduct a joint investigation into the assassination of a top Hezbollah commander, the Syrian state news agency reported.
Imad Mughniyeh, who was one of the world's most wanted fugitives, was killed in a car bomb in the Syrian capital Tuesday night. He was accused of masterminding attacks that killed hundreds of Americans in Lebanon in the 1980s.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Reza Sheik Attar announced the joint probe on Friday, according to Iran's official news agency.
But a Syrian official dismissed the report as "totally baseless" and said Damascus would conduct the investigation alone, Syria's state-run news agency reported late Friday.
Poor Hezbollah.

Like the Patriot missiles in Iraq, there won't be any pictures and we'll be assured everything worked.
All evidence the satellite fell to earth will be either classified or palmed off as some other space debris. By the time the truth is known, the lie will be set in stone and many contracts will have been awarded.

...
McCain earlier this week turned down government matching funds for the primary to free him to spend more money as he prepares for a general election contest.
Last summer, McCain had asked to participate in the public system when his campaign, his fundraising and his poll numbers hit a low point that threatened to unravel his candidacy.
...
McCain would be the obvious beneficiary if he and Obama take the federal money for the general election because they would have to return money already collected. Obama has raised $6.1 million for the general, nearly three times as much as McCain's $2.2 million.:::

Against my better judgment, I will try to referee this. Yes, Lebanon sustained terrible damage, and neither the Lebanese defense forces or Hezbollah could stop the Israelis from doing it, so in that sense they cannot be considered winners. NORTHERN ISRAEL (CNN) -- The Israeli military on Wednesday suffered its largest loss of life in its 15-day offensive against Hezbollah guerillas as nine Israeli soldiers were killed while fighting in southern Lebanese towns.
Eight soldiers were killed and 22 more were wounded in Bint Jbeil, near the Israeli border, while battling militiamen in what the Israel Defense Forces has called Hezbollah's "terror capital."

They bravely ran away.
No, they didn't. The ground incursion into southern Lebanon was fought to a standstill by Hezbollah. The Israeli air forces unopposed bombing of fleeing civilians and Lebanese infrastructure north of the battlefield went off without a hitch.

Don't forget that during his 2000 presidential run, McCain called his Vietnamese captors "gooks". He said this to reporters. I don't think he has ever apologized.

And now that beep-beep-beep you hear is the sound of The Straight Talk Express backing up.
Harmon's involvement in the campaign is a little awkward because in 2002, McCain denounced TV ads put out by a U.S. Senate campaign that Harmon managed in Georgia. (The spots compared Max Cleland, triple Vietnam amputee, to terrorists.)
After I wrote about Harmon's role in the McCain campaign the other day, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution asked the McCain camp about it. Campaign spokesman Brian Rogers told the paper that Harmon is not national political director. He said Harmon was "an independent contractor" who runs "the phone operation to contact voters."
I called Rogers myself yesterday and got no reply.
The Israeli goal was to destroy Hezbollah. They did not achieve that. They did however destroy S Lebanon, kill thousands of civilians, and incurr highly unsymmetric losses (i.e. far more Hezbollah fighters lost that IDF).

The US forces accomplished their objective -- arresting the guys they went out to round up -- and withdrew after losing only about 19 dead and 2 helicopters while killing over a thousand Somalis. I well remember the joyous dancing in the streets of my hometown after that singular US victory.... Oh, wait, no, I don't.

.When you're going up against an inferior force and you meet none of your objectives whilst taking relatively heavy casualties then retreat with tail betwixt legs, that's getting your asses handed to you.

OK, I guess by that criterion they were handed their asses.

The real objectives included demolition of WTC 1 and 2 because they were white elephants full of asbestos.
Plus stealing millions of gold and destroying the trading computers in WTC 7 to cover up a massive ripoff of the stock market.
And making Bush and Giuliani (whose approval ratings were in the toilet at the time) look like heroes.
Let's not forget that.

Which brings in to ? the whole notion of what "inferior" and "superior" mean.
I often find it amazing that in this era of identity politics, no one mentions that the US military excluded women in the 60s while women were very much a part of the NLF and the NVA... were

I've heard the argument that the US government "won" in Vietnam because the lesson that you'd pay a huge cost for defiance and then end up begging to make sneakers for 10cents/hour is exactly the lesson that was intended.
We used to have another term for these sorts of "victories". "Pyrrhic victories."

I definitely did not call what the IDF did a success. It was obviously not that. It was a defeat in the sense that it did not accomplish its objectives. As to Hezbollah coming away stronger for it, I'm not so sure that will be true in the long term.

OK, here's the deal: ReThugs are expected and permitted to be utterly pragmatic (do anything to win); Dems are supposed to live up to ideals and to keep their word to the letter; ergo, McCain wins and Obama gets gigged.
The MCM keeps hitting on the Dem's change, while softsoaping the ReThug's.
That's why it will matter: McCain and R's will make it an issue, and, if history is repeated, the MCM fill follow right along with the R's attacks, snipes.
I may be wrong--Obama may be different.

Elsewhere in Idaho, the story was similar in Donnelly, at the foot of the Tamarack ski area. “Good evening,” said Marilyn Arp, chair of Democrats in Valley County, scanning the crowd of 233 people. “And they say there are no Democrats in Valley County.” Only 56 people showed up the year that John Kerry got the Democratic nomination, notes The Star-News. {snipet}
Nonsense.
However, you are partially right since a number of US administrations - Dem and Rep - are responsible for the hatred that led to 9/11. There's no conspiracy there. It's all on record.

McCain has set himself up terribly by being against the Bush Tax Cuts before he was for them. The quotes of his original opposition will be deployed against him relentlessly, as well they should. The GOP will not like having its nose rubbed in the fact that "The Party of Lincoln" has spent the years since the Civil and Voting Rights Acts sopping up disaffected white Southern racists -- and that's exactly what they've done.

Let it be on the head and shoulders of the democrat party ~
What will happen at midnight tonight is much more significant than stump speeches, steroids or superdelegates. On Sunday, the terrorist tracking program the Director of National Intelligence tells us has led "to the disruption of planned terrorist attacks" no longer will be fully operational because of Congressional inaction.
we’ve conceded the capability to fully track them because the House Democrat Leadership blocked a vote on a bipartisan solution and then chose to close up shop and go home without completing their work.
At midnight, the country will be more at risk than it is today. And that risk will increase each day we don't have a solution to this problem.” - mitch mcconnel

Well, they may try to spin their losses to justify more agression in the future, but I don't think you can argue that it was their plan all along to lose, and then use that loss to come back stronger than ever. I remember that Israeli higher-ups were stunned at how badly the war was going, and domestic political pressure eventually led to the withdrawal. I hardly think that's evidence of some super-secret gambit.

Uh, and that is not accurate how?
I haven't heard Tweety say anything about Obama's speaking style which isn't laudatory to excess.
Now, when Obama is speaking extemporaneously, I sometimes get impatient, wanting him to stop with the long pauses, etc. But that's not mentioned very often that I've heard. Certainly not by the Tweets.
As I've said before, maybe I've lived in the East too long--but it's not just a Midwesternism since Hillary grew up in Chicago and lived in Arkansas until she came to DC with Bill. I'm sure Obama will become more smooth as he gets more experience answering questions. Just makes me want to finish his sentences for him sometimes....
Her "you know" tic is irritating to me, and I believe Tweety has done plenty on Hillary's on speaking and stage mannerisms. None of which send thrills up his leg. And the only tingles for Tucker are that he feels he needs to cross his legs to protect his manhood from her.
Rabinowitz said some things which could be contested. That one, to me, no way.

Give McCain a break on his speech towards Jon Cornyn. Such language is not proof of McCain's temper. It is merely an example of the fact that McCain has some good people sense.
There is no accurate term which should be used towards Jon Cornyn or as a descriptive of Cornyn's nature which is not also foul-mouthed and nasty.
Speaking to Cornyn as McCain is reported having done is simply a recognition of the fact that Cornyn is a waste of a human skin. It is not an indication that the person speaking has a hot temper, just that he recognizes Jon Cornyn.
McCain may also have a hot temper, but nothing he says to or about Cornyn is evidence of it.
