PUMA's are just jealous cause teh cougars havin' all the fun.
Cougar refers to an older woman, usually in her 40s, 50s or 60s who usually sexually pursue men in their 20s and 30s.[11] The term has been used by TV series such as Living With Fran (in the episode "The Reunion"), 30 Rock (in the episode "Cougars"), How I Met Your Mother (in the episode "Aldrin Justice"), Two and a Half Men (in the episode "Waiting for the Right Snapper"), Supernatural (in the episode "Red Sky at Morning"), the NBC reality TV show Age of Love, CBC's jPod, One Tree Hill ,Law & Order: CI (in the episode "Betrayed"), and My Boys (in the episode "John, Cougar, Newman Camp"). In film, it was used in 2004's National Lampoon's Going the Distance and in 2007's Ocean's Thirteen. The 2007 film Cougar Club was dedicated to the subject: its plot was about two males creating a club where parties are thrown where male members get the chance to meet and have sexual encounters with older women. Additionally, the website funnyordie.com posted a video on the subject starring Hunter Parrish, titled "Cougar 101 with Hunter Parish."[12]

SPRINGFIELD, Ill – It was Barack Obama’s campaign show, but his newly-named running mate U.S. Sen Joe Biden was the star before a massive crowd gathered in sweltering heat to launch the Democratic presidential ticket into a new, crucial phase of the campaign.
Wearing a long-sleeved white shirt and red tie, Obama called Biden “what others pretend to be – a statesman with sound judgment who doesn’t have to hide behind bluster to keep America strong.
“Joe won’t just make a good vice president – he will make a great one. After decades of steady work across the aisle, I know he’ll be able to help me turn the page on the ugly partisanship in Washington, so we can bring Democrats and Republicans together.”
Obama’s selection addressed his perceived lack of experience in foreign policy issues — one of the bigger concerns voters have cited about his candidacy in polls, including one Detroit Free Press/Local 4 Michigan Poll last week. Biden chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee
Apparently the big media party is tonight at Elitch Gardens, but somehow my invitation never arrived.

Froomkin (via Digby):
Bush has repeatedly warned that politics and public opinion should have no role in the decision about when to leave Iraq, but apparently he just meant American politics and public opinion. A clear majority of Americans has favored a withdrawal timetable for several years now, putting anti-war Democrats in control of Congress in 2006.
Bush ignored them. But in the end, he bowed to the will of the Iraqis' elected representatives. After five and a half years of occupation, it was their turn to put a gun to Bush's head: The timetable was the price they demanded for agreeing to let American troops remain in the country beyond the expiration of a United Nations mandate in December.
Bush's acquiescence pulls the rug out from under Republican presidential candidate John McCain, whose position on Iraq was largely identical to Bush's -- pre-backflip. In some ways, the new timetable is even shorter than the one proposed by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
So how is this not exactly what Bush had previously decried as an invitation to disaster?
But what the hell... there are political olympics to yap about!

This could be an extremely important political moment but I can't see how it's going to play. Will it be that the Republicans have finally acquiesced to reality and are accepting the terms that Obama has been pushing for some time, as Froomkin suggests? Or will it suggest that the brilliant military leader John McCain was right about the surge which led to our glorious victory?
The coverage has been so muddled that I can't tell yet what the political take-away will be for this. Maybe nothing at all. One thing's for sure: it's a testimony to their puerile obsession with shiny objects that the TV gasbags spent an entire two days bloviating about something quite dull that was going to be announced shortly and didn't pay any attention at all to something important that already had been.

We are always running smack into an unresolvable conflict between politics as it theoretically should be practiced and the myriad slapdash methods by which it actually proceeds. The danger of giving up the ideals and giving over wholly into the prevalent practices are just as clearly seen -- Atwater, Rove, et.al. names that inspire revulsion in all honest people not for whom they work but how. The reptile brain is always there but we evolved the other parts to supplant it not to exalt it. Our problem is always going to be that that is an opinion, and not one that is universally shared.

seriously. i think that's a huge plus for him; i had no idea. tweety also just commented that he's inclined to get very much into the class discussion, esp when he's speaking before unions. this is going to be more fun than i initially expected.
and did you see this about biden's mom:
As a boy, Biden took endless ribbing from classmates for a stutter he later overcame. Much of the time, the nuns tried to help. But when a seventh-grade teacher mimicked Bu-bu-bu-bu-bu-Biden's stutter in front of the class, his mother, Jean, demanded a meeting with the principal and the offending nun. "If you ever speak to my son like that again, I'll come back and rip that bonnet off your head," she said. Later, when then-Senator Biden told her he was going to visit the pope, she said: "Don't you kiss his ring."
In junior high school, Biden considered, briefly, entering a seminary in Baltimore to become a priest. His mother had other ideas. "I told him: 'Wait until you start dating girls, then go,' " said Mrs. Biden,

Rich:
The Bush White House is now poised to alight with the Iraqi government on a withdrawal timetable far closer to Obama’s 16 months than McCain’s vague promise of a 2013 endgame. As Gen. David Petraeus returns home, McCain increasingly resembles those mad Japanese soldiers who remained at war on remote Pacific islands years after Hiroshima.
