I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarYes

GravatarAvedon and I are in sync

GravatarTwo mornings in a row

Gravatarthanks, Avedon

and unbearable cuteness at http://cabdrollery.blogspot.com/

Gravataroops, headed off the homer, sorry, ql

GravatarThis is fresher.

GravatarWow. It's morning & stuff. Good morning, good peeps

GravatarObama t-shirts meeting on the Mall, what could be easier.

GravatarBut where do the Obama holiday mugs meet?

GravatarObama t-shirts meeting on the Mall, what could be easier.

Add a fez.

GravatarHeadline at HuffPo:
Report: Five Blackwater Guards Indicted In Shooting That Left 17 Iraqis Dead

GravatarBut where do the Obama holiday mugs meet?

Around the coffee maker.

Gravatar(·)(·)

GravatarI'll be riding a pony, does that help?

GravatarReport: Five Blackwater Guards Indicted In Shooting That Left 17 Iraqis Dead

I did see a blip of this on TV news yesterday, then it was disappeared - as alot of other stories have in the last 8 years...

GravatarAlright, so I overslept this morning...I have a cold.

Anyway, Good Morning, rational people.

GravatarThe case is still sealed, but could become public as early as Monday in Baghdad, the AP article says.

Gravatarstoat's stranded rant, from the dead thread:

i really and truly dread eight more hours of xmas music today... i hope
some kind chimp in a 'leadership' position puts a different sirius
station on today, but i doubt it.

after so many years doing this, i cannot tell you how much i detest
being subjected to this relentless bombardment. it completely
undermines my mood and angers me to an irrational degree.

the only thing i miss about our previous store 'leader' was that he hated xmas music as much as i, so we got the bare minimum.

people
always seem to think i'm joking about how angry it makes me, but i'm
not... i hate xmas.  i do.  i love advent, but advent is "waiting" and
our culture is not about waiting, it's about "now."

wish i were better at letting it just wash past me, but i haven't figured out how, after all these years.

GravatarIt was probably that earthquake out in the Mohave Desert.

GravatarIt was probably that earthquake out in the Mohave Desert

That was only the FSM paying California back for the Prop 8 vote.

Gravatar"i really and truly dread eight more hours of xmas music today... i hope
some kind chimp in a 'leadership' position puts a different sirius
station on today, but i doubt it."

That SO could have been me a few years ago. Satellite Muzak Xmas.

Gravatarstoat, I'm with you. Hate everything about it.

GravatarFESTIVUS!!!

GravatarGots about forty hours of work to do in the next forty-eight hours. Later, all, and may the day go well. If Gromit checks in from Santiago or somewhere else south of the equator, tell him hi for me.

GravatarI see we're bailing out GM. They promise to concentrate on their 4 leading brands, and "play down or sell" Saab, Hummer, S& Saturn.

How about selling them off NOW so we murkins don't have to pay your bills?

GravatarAh, yes! For the rest of us!

GravatarDiane posting on the prospects for automakers rescue demanding UAW take cuts, funny, what did the WallStreet workers do without??? http://cabdrollery.blogspot.com/

And GM makes money everywhere but in the U.S. Can you say healthcare??

Gravatarfestivus to you, Barndog! I forget what you have to do on festivus.

GravatarThink how much money not forcing Tiger Woods to pretend he likes Buicks is saving!

GravatarAlso they make a fuel efficient car elsewhere, Ruth, but don't sell it here.

GravatarI forget what you have to do on festivus

First, you need an aluminum pole...

GravatarThe music choices at my local Albertson's make me shop and get out, quick. Some one likes really raspy voices.

GravatarI would look forward to celebrating the solstice without the two mythological characters (Santa and Jesus) to muddy it up.

Gravatarat least when it was "muzak" or some comparable service, they'd "phase" in a certain number of  'seasonal' tunes into the mix, gradually increasing in frequency and jeebusness as the holiday approached.

now the music stations seem virtually xmas-free and the "holly" channel provides xmas-crack.  it's one or the other.

and, of course, the day after xmas it's like it never happened.

Gravatarel, it would be too economical for Big Oil. And spoil things for bubba.

Gravatar(de-lurks)

"You know, I still have some DFH shirts for folks who want them."

my sons want them so they can wear them at their mothers and piss her off

(re-lurks)

Gravataralumninum poles: no no, that's not how it goes. Can't you remember?

GravatarAbout the time Albertson's was bought by SuperValu, they filled one near me with TVs everywhere. I couldn't take it.

GravatarI would look forward to celebrating the solstice without the two mythological characters (Santa and Jesus) to muddy it up.

i'm with you, daemon.

and that's where the rage comes from, i think... from not being free to choose for eight or more hours a day.

Gravatarstoat, I feel your pain. Can't imagine what it must be like to have a demo of something that goes off whenever anyone goes by it, like the cackling witch and chirping bird types. I think I'd run screaming from the store after awhile.

GravatarSanta would have brought something cooler than myrrh.

GravatarEight hours of "The Little Drummer Boy"?

Aaaack....

GravatarTrue-Value (in which my nursery co-existed) had several Channels, and the Xmas one was relentless.
You could start it up in early October.

Gravatargold, frankincense and dank bud.

later, kids.

GravatarI just worked all week rocking a chimney (don't like heights btw) to find out my boss has already overcharged the homeowner, and has no $ to pay me till we start another job!!! Merry fuckin' X-mas.

GravatarI can top you all. The place I work at has a PA system. Come November, they put one CD on that is only 30 minutes long, on continuous loop until January.

GravatarWasn't there the "Airing of Grievances" on Festivus?

GravatarBig oil is going to lose out big time if they don't play along with the masses in the fuel efficient vision of our new bubba.

Interesting that oil prices just DROPPED way down when faced with falling murkin demand. So the murkin public is in the drivers seat, if we collectively don't play along.

GravatarCome November, they put one CD on that is only 30 minutes long, on continuous loop until January.

i am speechless with horror.

GravatarFESTIVUS!!!
Barndog

Let the Airing of the Grievances begin!

Gravatarmmmm, credit crunch and oil for breakfast

Gravatarairing of grievances, right!

let's see

gee, I can't think of any

GravatarIf the price of a barrel of oil drops to $25, as some CNBC bot said it could, it may not be worth Venezuela's time to extract it.

GravatarObama: Tell me how to fix health care
Doctors
First up u need some doctors who are willing to work for a known amount of money if they do just "basic treatment" as to say theyre just checking for infections.

id est for example 10$. (I guess itll be more but well see).

Furthermore its clear that treatment of broken bones o something similiar will be more expensive, but I think it will be useful to introducefor every "operation" a price tag.

Its clear also that not every doctor will be interested in being such a "state health insurance doctor." If u r a doctor in Beverly hills, I guess the patients will pay their fees themselves.

Furthermore, in small villages, where concurrence is less pressing, there will also be a certain lack of doctors wanting to have such a status.

So, its very important there is concurrence (competition) among doctors. This is the effect u need to make use of.
PILLS
Im not sure whether u need to cover pills. Mexico and Canada are close. Competition is high for pharmaceuticals in the US.

Summary:
U need to contract a certain number of doctors who play abit "Jesus" because they wont be paid this much. In return, they got a higher number of patients.http://ccoaler.blogspot.com/2008/12/ obama-tell-me-how-to-fix-health-care.html

GravatarOff to the salt mines, gotta finish the job today, adding insult to injury

GravatarAlaska dividend checks will not be so hot the next few years.

Dontcha know that might make the natives restless? You betcha.

GravatarI have a totally different take on xmas these days.

I spent years being furious at all the commercialization and bullshit, but now that I understand the true meaning of Solistice, which is that it's fucking dark and cold and we need light and noise and stuff really bad, my position is that all signs of xmas are good.

It's a signal that we now have an excuse for smiling and offering season's greetings to all and sundry and also a good excuse for a lot of parties and food and stuff.

Plus, there is something about xmas that transforms the cold and dark into something not quite so cold and dark. I don't just mean all the lights (the wonderful, garish lights), I mean the fact that if it's xmastime it's supposed to be cold, so it's all right, it's good, I have a big coat and a big scarf.

This time of year I haunt the pound shops (UK edition of dollar stores) for junk to give to friends - toys that don't work, stuff that's almost what you wanted but isn't good enough, etc. One year I gave the guys little plastic tops that they had loads of fun trying to put together and make work - and they didn't work. Imagine a top that doesn't work. Then there are the pretty little fake carved crystal blocks and glass roses and what-have-you.

So I love it, even the music and the stupid "personalized" xmas cards from institutions that ought not be wasting their money with such crap. (I even love the moment of horror that they had the temerity to send me such a thing.)

Happy Advent, Sinterklaas, Chanuka, Kwinza, Solstice, Christmas, New Year's, Epiphany, and whatever else you can think of to celebrate. I start celebrating way back at Dawali, myself.

Remember: Fight the cold and dark.

Gravatar2% of Texan homeowners are in forecclosure proceedings.

I think I prefer Frosty the Snowman endlessely..... well, maybe

GravatarRemember there is lead in many things from Dollar stores, and tread carefully.

Gravatardaemon, take care. And Hold On

GravatarIf the price of a barrel of oil drops to $25, as some CNBC bot said it could, it may not be worth Venezuela's time to extract it.

Moving away from dependency on oil is the most radical foreign policy I can think of, pulling the rug out from affluence of entire middle east. However, there are always emerging countries to suck from the oil teat, which they would gleefully do just to spite the high minded let's go green vision of the former masters of the world.

GravatarAvedon, have some iced cookies, too! heh

GravatarAnd yet, wind and sun occur in many places worldwide.

GravatarDamnit. I have to go drop $900 on new tires for my truck.

Easy come - easy go I suppose.

GravatarHere, the light clatter of vehicles with snow-tires has begun. The seconds clock is already messed up, too.

GravatarDamnit. I have to go drop $900 on new tires for my truck.
Barndog

Have you checked CostCo? We got some really nice Michelins for under $400.

GravatarIn Chile, it's summer! of course, for the Habitat build it was spring, with lilacs n' stuff.

GravatarBlogwhore:

Bringing Hummer Hate to new levels: I humped your Hummer!

GravatarHave you checked CostCo? We got some really nice Michelins for under $400

I use 10 ply load range "E" tires, since I yank the 28' 5th wheel around the state most of the summertime.

GravatarIt's supposed to be 86℉ in Santiago today, but far cooler down south where Gromit is headed tomorrow.

GravatarIt's supposed to be 86℉ in Santiago toda

That's not chilly.

(can we get a pun thread going this early in the morning?)

GravatarTrifecta wins the audio wars.

GravatarThe National Park where they're headed is something like 150km north of Punta Arenas, where
50s and 60s are the rule right now.

Gravatar(can we get a pun thread going this early in the morning?)

No. I haven't had breakfast and I'm too Hungary for puns.

Gravatar(can we get a pun thread going this early in the morning?)
Southern Beale

I sincerely hope not.

GravatarYou could have Turkey in Greece.

Gravatarthey have been building these cadillac retirement homes in a small area 'round here, they are gorgeous small craftsman bungalows with geothermal heating...too bad hardly any have sold (400-500k)

who can afford 500 large on a home in their retirement? the old man perished in this home at 88 after building and living here for 50 years, i plan to do the same (well not 88, i have my vices)

GravatarA pun that note, c u in a bit. Time for breakfast.. with boca java coffee

Wage free and oil not courtesy of Venezuela.

see http://cabdrollery.blogspot.com/

GravatarThe people Paulson has been giving trillions to?

Gravatar(well not 88, i have my vices)
_

I haven't settled on a number yet either. The folks are 84 and still going strong. But as you say our generation has its vices. Early loss of brain cells, fried from early computers, cell phones, pharma.

Maybe we'll be maroons in our 80's

GravatarI haven't had breakfast and I'm too Hungary for puns.

Besides, Chile isn't exactly my first choice for brekkies.

GravatarI haven't had breakfast and I'm too Hungary for puns.

Besides, Chile isn't exactly my first choice for brekkies.

Gravataravedon, i am very much in sympathy with the points you make, and i really have tried to bear them in mind over the years.

but it's tough not to react badly to the assault -- and it is an assault -- when it's as relentless and crass as non-stop holiday music in  your workplace, all day, every day.

but i will sincerely try and keep your words with me during the day today.

GravatarPunta Arenas, Chile seems to be a very windy place.

GravatarMaybe we'll be maroons in our 80's

Either that or morans.

Gravatarspite the high minded let's go green vision of the former masters of the world.

the rest of the world ain't nearly as greedy as us. that's a good thing. why choose gas if other options are available?

I think this country has cornered the market on willful ignorance cause we are a fat cat culture and you can still survive willfully ignorant, many other places, not so much.

GravatarBTW, hello everyone from beautiful Bethesda MD!

GravatarMy impression is that many Chinese want exactly what we have had, and very soon.

GravatarI think the days when Americans can be willfully ignorant and survive are drawing to a close.

Gravatarmorans

Gravataryou know, i'd click it, but i'm sure that's it's just not as good as Buffy the Musical, so i won't.

good morning.

GravatarWe shouldn't have sold the Chinese all those Singer sewing machines.

Karma, folks!

Gravatarmany Chinese want exactly what we have had, and very soon.

yeah i thought that too, but watching asia squawk box (love that name) and the china bizz folks were worried that with the US downturn and china's weak internal materialism, they would have trouble there - the talk was how to get the chinese to be more materialistic so they bought tons of cheap crap like us.

GravatarI think this country has cornered the market on willful ignorance cause we are a fat cat culture and you can still survive willfully ignorant, many other places, not so much.

Western Europe, at the least, gives us a run for the money.

GravatarMy impression is that many Chinese want exactly what we have had, and very soon.

Yes. Americans didn't invent greed and stupidity or even corner the market on it. But for a long time we've had the power and wealth to feed our addictions to consumerism and rapaciousness and other people didn't. That's changing now, but China and India are trying to become too much like us. I saw a story on the news a few weeks ago about there being 6000 new cars a week on the streets of Mumbai. Acquiring things is just as addictive as any other drug.

GravatarMy impression is that many Chinese want exactly what we have had, and very soon.

does "freedom" mean on the way up the developing world will go through the blood sucking stage of democracy? Or will they look at us and say "let's not go there"...

GravatarI saw a story on the news a few weeks ago about there being 6000 new cars a week on the streets of Mumbai.

Ford sells 41,000 F150's a month, almost ALL in the US. that's just one model.

they got a way to go.

Gravatarhttp://www.techpresident.com/

GravatarFord sells 41,000 F150's a month, almost ALL in the US. that's just one model.

Mumbai's just 1 city -- and that's 24,000 cars a month added to the traffic. When they said new cars, it wasn't people replacing their old cars, it was people who had not had cars before now getting cars.

Gravatargosh there's a lot of snow coming down right now...

GravatarAt the Beeb, the EU tries to work out a climate deal
at environmental summit in Poland.

Gravatarohh so they agreed on a big 3 bailout eh? after teh uber-shitty job numbers yesterday, the bizz squawkers tell me. gee i wonder where we'd be had the job numbers not been that shitty.

then i flipped to fux bizz channel for a second to catch a whitey spitting that while he OBVIOUSLY didn't vote for obama, that obama's call for infrastructure was a good thing, he even defended it as the other assholes tried to say that a lot of monies would be wasted by the states, bla blah.

GravatarMumbai's just 1 city -- and that's 24,000 cars a month added to the traffic. When they said new cars, it wasn't people replacing their old cars, it was people who had not had cars before now getting cars.
Toonscribe | 12.06.08 - 8:42 am | #

I've been there, and although you learn in India to just assume "impossible" is not applicable, I still can't figure out where they put those cars.

Gravatarasia consumerism is going to be a whole nuther ball of wax, no matter how much various asian societies may want to repeat the american model. for the obvious reasons: they won't enjoy 100 years of cheap, plentiful high quality oil; they won't enjoy innocent ignorance and no consequences in terms of the environment; there are plain limits in terms of who can have how much of what when you're talking about billions of people, as opposed to 100-300 million. when you add in the global nature of the financial markets, some other things, well, i think that despite petulance and stubborness, the spurt in asia consumerism will be curbed much more quickly than it has been here. reality is a bitch like that.

F*@k......7:44 AM?......: clearly "hookers and blow" wasn't the theme for your Friday night.

Gravatarclearly "hookers and blow" wasn't the theme for your Friday night.

I recall some post this week, stating that with the downturn of the economy, Steve has had to cut this down to twice per month.

Hell of a sacrifice, if you ask me.

Yes....now we're talkin'!

Please put me on the short list for invites.

the revolution will not be televised.

Gravatarsheets

Gravatarsay that a lot of monies would be wasted by the states, bla blah.

because, yeah, there's never been a problem with waste and fraud in today's corporate environment. privatization is the most efficient way to do everything from health care to prison systems, not.

Gravatargosh there's a lot of snow coming down right now...

I once worked for a teevee station where the news director threatened to fire any news writer who used the term "white stuff" in connection with snow. One of the few people in the business I actually respected.
