GravatarA group of independent Palestinian MPs investigating the death in custody of a Hamas preacher say he was tortured.

Majed Barghouti, 42, died in February at a Palestinian Authority (PA) intelligence service base in Ramallah.

Hassan Khreishe, MP, said intelligence officers caused the death and urged the PA to punish those responsible.

The MPs viewed Mr Barghouti's body before burial, noting "torture marks" on the legs, back and arms. Security officials say he died of heart failure.

But the group of MPs said tests taken two days before Mr Barghouti's death had not revealed any heart problems.

Gravatar"Considering the number of meds I take at bedtime, it's amazing I wake up in the morning."

I hope they're working for you.

My experiences with anti-depressants was, well, depressing.

I just discovered something that has swung me closer to Obama. HRC has stated that she rejects a divided Jerusalem. Even Bush has left that an open ?

GravatarChris, I have bipolar, and my new cocktail consists of five meds vs. the three I used to be on.  I think they're working; I do feel better.  The first few days were rough, though.

GravatarAnti-depressants have been bery, bery good to me.

GravatarI know this is an odd question at any hour, but does anyone have a link to the story from a week or so back regarding how the SS was bagging up the Idiot King's um....bodily excretions while he was over in Yurp?

GravatarTKK. Okay, if you can do those moves it MIGHT be a contest. BUT, here is a
Link to the video showing my moves. This is a video of me dancing. I'm the one with the glasses. Oh, and the women I'm dancing with? They mean nothing to me. At least that is what I'm telling Athenae. I'll also tell her from whom you learned YOUR dance moves. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Japanese school girls? What next? Tap dancing lessons from Larry Craig?

You WILL be defeated! I learned my dance steps from Lord Garth!

GravatarAnti-depressants have been bery, bery good to me.

Same here, babe.

GravatarI'm myself, trying to find something that I never find. Every stinking night.

What's the deal, man?

Gravatar
My experiences with anti-depressants was, well, depressing.

Yeah, I did not do so well on them, either. Felt like I had squirrels running around in my brain. Very odd feeling. Although, I don't think I was really depressed, just having a natural reaction to shitty circumstances in my life. Not that I don't think meds are warranted in many cases, but I do think they're over-prescribed - got a problem, take a pill, etc..

GravatarHi kids!

GravatarBest of luck, Sally! When they work, they can be almost miraculous.

I'm part of that population that the modern meds just don't help.

GravatarI just discovered something that has swung me closer to Obama. HRC has stated that she rejects a divided Jerusalem. Even Bush has left that an open ?

last time I talked politics with my parents, my mother told me with a shocked expression that she would never ever vote for Hillary because she was a SOCIALIST! These days, I think of that and I can't help laughing.

back in 1999, the republicans thought george w. bush was a conservative. it took most of those dumbshits SIX YEARS to figure out they were wrong.

GravatarI wish all it took for me was one antidepressant.

Instead it's Depakote, Tegretol, Seroquel, Klonopin and Lexapro.

GravatarDamn, the Clintons released their tax returns for the past seven years. They're incredibly rich. They brought in one hundred and nine million dollars over that period.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but dayum.

GravatarChris, overall, the epidemiological studies do indicate that women report better results with antidepressants than men do.  It's a phenomenon we don't understand well beyond quantification.

GravatarHRC has stated that she rejects a divided Jerusalem.

Mark Green.

There is a very, very die-hard cluster of Hillarists who love her because they're crazy and because she is happy to play right to their newuroses; they happen to be rightists who think of themselves as progressives, they're like "the blue dog Democrats," they happen to love dishonest arguing and word tricks, and these same people also love Hillary in part because they think Obama is Osama.

GravatarHey, Sally - here's some cats and rabbits for your granddaughter!

GravatarI'm myself, trying to find something that I never find. Every stinking night.

GravatarSallyh, my future MIL takes Depakote and Klonopin; she also had electroshock therapy about fifteen years ago. She was severely depressed then, according to SO. Now, she is doing very well. Wonderful, sweet woman who treats me like her own.

GravatarTV, I hope to become a kind and caring person again.

GravatarSallyh, you could never be anything else. We all have our rough spots. You've been through a lot, and have had to be strong for a lot of people. It takes a toll, even on someone without an underlying illness. I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it until you listen: Sometimes, you have to take care of yourself, too.

GravatarI had no idea, you guys.
I guess I've been fortunate in that I haven't needed anti-depressants, but I've struggled with depression.

Working out has always been my med, I guess.
Just the routine of exercise. I know it sounds cliche, but maybe it would help. I'm not talking about an Ironman/woman, just a 1/2 hr walk a day even.

Gravatarhomosexual activist, are you an acolyte of donnie mcclurkin? obama is, and i imagine you are too if you support barack and michelle hussein obama.

GravatarFrom my experience, progressives tend to be more creative, therefore more susceptible to depression.

I notice with some hard core wingnuts that I've met, they are so sure about and so focused on what they believe, that nothing bothers them.

Maybe questioning things more has something to do with it. Things are less black & white for us. The realization that our own country that we love so much is a rogue state is sometimes hard to deal with. These things can weigh on us. We need to be more careful about our health an well being.

GravatarDepakote, Tegretol, Seroquel, Klonopin and Lexapro.

If these product names were assigned else where what do you think they would be.

"Visit the booming city of Depakote!
On the border of North and South Dakota, beautiful Depakote is known for it's extensive pinwheel collection and low, low hourly street parking fees!"

"Do you have dandruff, hair loss and gout? Then you need Tegretol! I helps clean you scalp of flakes. But unlike Head and Sholders with Pyrithione Zinc, Tegretol can also be ingested to help cure gout and lumbago. When used as a salve it eases the pain of double detached slipped disks (also known as The Uncle Joe disease)

You sound like my mom, in a very good way.

GravatarSallyh, it's hard not to feel guilty, I know, but you really shouldn't. Do you blame your own parents for your illness? Probably not. We all inherit things from our parents, whether genetic or habit; it's how we deal with them that makes the difference, I think.

And, yes, Elias, I think that you have a valid point there. If one is so sure of their worldview, it's going to take a lot more to shake them up, whereas if you're more open to possibilities, you tend to think too much, maybe take things too much to heart. I've thought the same thing about artist types; the more sensitive you are, the more susceptible you are to great variances in emotional stability.

GravatarHow old were you when you first had thoughts of premeditated murder?

Gravatarmichelle hussein obama had to have the mansion she could not afford. so she took the rezko cash. what a blow job queen.

GravatarI do 99% of that stuff, including lots of exercise, but still get depressed.

GravatarSpocko, that made me LOL!

Ali, Lexapro's an antidepressant.  The others are anticonvulsants that serve as mood stabilizers.

GravatarOh, I know what Lexapro really is - I was waiting on Spocko's ad copy!

GravatarI do 99% of that stuff, including lots of exercise, but still get depressed.

Fresh air and vegetables aren't always the answer.

No, no they're not. But then, you have to ask yourself, "Am I really depressed, or am I having a natural reaction to my circumstances." I think that a lot of what gets branded "depression" is simply "emotion," and in our society, any negative emotion, especially. Sometimes, it's completely natural to feel down, such as during/after a breakup, a death of a loved one, stressful financial times, etc. Not saying this is always the case either, as clinical depression and things like bipolar disorder are very real, and need to be treated with drugs, but, kind of like the over-diagnosis of ADD in kids, people can get carried away, and stuck on the easy fix of just taking a pill to make it better.

GravatarThinlyVeiled

I read a great book called The Paranoia Switch. How How Terror Rewires Our Brains and Reshapes Our Behavior--and How We Can Reclaim Our Courage http://www.amazon.com/Paranoia-S...r/dp/ 0374229996
It's really amazing. The author, Martha Stout, also wrote The Sociopath Next Door (I guess she lives at 1690 Pennsylvania Ave. )

She works with people who have PSTD and explains how the constant fear mongering on TV, in Radio and by the politicians actually impact the structure of our brain. It's an amazing book.

GravatarI get those too...

GravatarShe works with people who have PSTD and explains how the constant fear mongering on TV, in Radio and by the politicians actually impact the structure of our brain. It's an amazing book.

I definitely believe that's true. We've been bombarded by this for over 7 yrs now. It's got to take a toll. I think we all must have some level of PTSD. It's enough to deal with the everyday things that get us down.

GravatarAli,
When you find the time, go to Cultus for some great corned beef (fri, sat, or sun).

GravatarIn the dream analysis book that I read they go trough a process of uncovering what dreams mean to the dreamer.

You have to ask the dreamer. "If I was a visitor from another planet, how would you describe what a twister is? What does it look like? What does it do?

They had a lot of questions like that.

GravatarI get those too...

Do U really? UR the first person I've ever run into that has that dream.

I have had them ever since the first film they showed us in elementary school warning us what to do.

I saw one or two tornadoes as a kid, but not up close... still, it is a regular thing, a few times a year

GravatarWhere at Cultus, Bobby?

GravatarNo, YOU clean out the cage, while I hang with the very flexible female acrobat/cannonball!

GravatarWhat are you, the star of your school?

They hate me.

You'll meet them all again on their long journey to the middle...

Almost famous. Love it.

I've had them ever since we lived in Kansas as a kid. My dreams are rarely scary. I always know what to do, "Quick!!! let's find an interior bathroom or closet!!"

GravatarBobby, there's actually a chance I'll get there this summer, and if I do - I'll head straight to the plaza between 1 and 4 on Friday, Saturday or sunday!

GravatarAnother thing to keep in mind about a tornado. They create enormous pressure disparities between the inside and outside of the house. So if a tornado is coming make sure you open every window in the house all the way.

GravatarOK, it's gettin' a little silly in here; troll to Atriot ratio is a little high. I'm gonna go lay down and wait for the old man to get home. Nitey-nite all. No tornado dreams.

Gravatarwe have tons of tornadoes here in sd. with a sparse population and weather radar and all, they're more entertaining than anything. as we watch them navigate their way across the landscape, it's kinda like a twisted version of uber dodge ball.

i've been smack dab in the middle of several. not much else goes on around here, so it's actually kind of a thrill.

at least for me, anyway...

GravatarI've never understood why people in Tornado Alley don't build tornado-sympathetic houses. I'd make my house out of foam rubber, so if a strong wind came, the fucker would just bend over, and pop back up.

Or have it on pistons over a big frigging hole, so when the wind came, you could open a tap, and sink the whole structure underground.

Or just live underground, like they do in Coober Pedy Australia, or a combination of all three...

But instead, most people seem to live in trailers or matchstick-and-drywall shitboxes. That's nuts.

Ditto.

So, yeah, better and worse.

GravatarWe live on such an amazing green and blue planet. Not enough people realize that. Most people don't even notice. Shame really.

GravatarI have a bit of gardening puttering to do - there's a persnickety plant that likes to be pruned at just the right time to take off well, and it's so hard to know exactly when that moment is.

GravatarI hate it when people prune back crape myrtle. The trunks are part of what's really attractive about them.

Gravatarhey plantsman - yes, got caught in rain this afternoon (early eve??) as well!

I have Archangel False Nettle to haul out of my poor front bed.....dammit.

GravatarThe prune them back so it's like a poof on top. They bloom more like that but it's still ugly.

Gravatarsam.....I'm not here long - up late because folks behind us have a band and had a party this evening. They were having way too much fun to complain, and, besides, they had warned us in advance and gave us their cell phone # to call if they were too loud too late. These days, I figure any fun people can have is a Good Thing, so I'm still awake as they taper off. Probably be some aching heads in the late morning

GravatarMorning peeps.

Rors, I found teaching to be very, very emotional. I guess one grows past it eventually. Just exhausting.

GravatarLittle known fact about the Nimitz. While under final construction at Newport News, several female shipyard workers were busted running a prostitution ring below decks. Believe it or stuff it...

It is exhausting, but I don't want to grow past it; I want to grow more and more into it.

And I think I am, really.

This semester, though, I was rather blindsided by a couple of new courses thrown at me by the department at the last minute--I could've refused, but I did want to teach them... but the last-minute thing has led to a crazy-ass time this spring.

GravatarFrom the Beeb:

Bid to end Zimbabwe poll silence
Zimbabweans wait in line for food in Harare on 4 April by a wall with election posters
Harare is still covered in election posters

Zimbabwe's main opposition, the MDC, is trying to apply for a court order to force electoral officials to release the presidential election result.

A spokesman said the MDC wanted the electoral commission to publish the result of last Saturday's poll within four hours of such an order.

The party believes its leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, defeated President Robert Mugabe in the ballot

Gravatarmiddle school...arrgghhh...first flush of new hormones.....
Sarah Deere | Homepage | 04.05.08 - 5:51 am | #

Yeah, I'd never do that, I have to say.

It's bad enough dealing with 17-yr old freshmen's hormones, during their first weeks and months away from the parental units.

GravatarI have a sensitivity to and affinity for plants as well, but my physical strength and stamina are gone, so I do what I'm able to.

Gravatarsam, I'll catch you up tomorrow. thanks.

Whenever, just good to "see" you.

GravatarMugabe's agricultural policies have made Zimbabwe from a net exporter of food to an importer of relief supplies always in crisis. It's such a shame.

GravatarHeh, both my kids called in their freshman year, crying they wanted to come home. A weekend visit from mom was enough to convince them that no, they really didn't want to come home after all.

Sarah. We're probably gonna be in Portland early next year. Planning on meeting Erin and hope to meet you as well.

GravatarTony Snow on what happened in Basra: "The bad guys backed down because they were getting crushed".

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/04.../snow-bad-guys/

Lying and nonsense come as naturally to these people as breathing. But then, they know their audience will believe anything that they say without question or thought.

I'm sure that Maliki let Al Sadr dictate the terms of the Iraqi governments surrender out of kindness, for his "backing down". I'm also sure the after Maliki announced that he was going after the militia's in Baghdad, and Al Sadr told him to back off, and Maliki then announced a freeze on raids on militias was just another sign of benevolence for Sadr's having "backed down" in Basra.

But if your audience is willing to be led around by the nose, why not tell them anything you want?

By then, we won't have to worry about boats rolling over on down trees. Happened twice this week - one was a guide I know and his client.

Nice 38f degree bath. Heh.

GravatarBD-- my arugula and lettuce would grow fine now. But besides that, I've got a lot of cleaning up to do, and some prep. Got to tear out some more grass, work in some sand, that sort of thing. A lot of work, before even getting the seeds in.

GravatarBut besides that, I've got a lot of cleaning up to do, and some prep

Yeah, I haven't even cleaned up from last year yet. That's okay, because the remains of the plants provide nutrients and fodder for the soil.

That's why I laugh at the neighbors sweeping their lawns all the time. They're just wasting free fertilizer.

GravatarI keep wondering about raised beds enclosed by that Trex synthetic and wood waste stuff.
How durable and resistant to pests and safe they are?

GravatarThis winter did a number on the house, too. I've got drain spouts lying all over the place, roof tiles torn up, the whole deal. I wasn't able to see all the damage until this week.

GravatarLast time I did raised beds was with 1x6 pine that had been sealed (sanding sealer & water-based poly).

That worked just fine for me. It lasted for probally 8-9 years, before I finally took them out.

GravatarI shouldn't have, but I found TJ's reaction to winter in NJ quite amusing. One morning with the windchill is was something like minus ten degrees. She was literally crying at the thought of getting the kids to school in such cold weather.

GravatarThe Star has an article detailing what James Earl Ray did after escaping to Toronto. I especially like this part:

"I don't think I have much in common with these others," Ray told me. "I mean, Sirhan, he's Arab from Jordan or wherever and Oswald, he was in politics. Here I am, I'm just involved in criminal activity. I just did dumb things like coming back to the United States from Canada."

GravatarJames Earl Ray, what a class act!

(Not.)

GravatarShe was literally crying at the thought of getting the kids to school in such cold weather.
qlª

I can relate.

GravatarI slapped on of my best friends right off a bar stool once, for commenting that MLK Jr day should have been called "James Earl Ray Day".

GravatarIt hardly matters at this point, and I wouldn't push it, but there's a pretty good argument that Ray was, ya know, innocent.

GravatarI saw two boys at the high school yesterday, walking across the lawn, holding hands. *That* wouldn't have happened, even a couple of years ago. It must be a challenge, even now.

GravatarI knew J. Edgar Hoover had tapped King's phone calls and knew of his infidelity. I did not know until yesterday that he sent incriminating tapes to Coretta Scott King. What an awful person!

GravatarDamn, now I can't seem to go anyplace. The only thing working is haloscan. Now that's a change.

GravatarTiny U.S. town braces for Canadian invasion

OROVILLE, Wash. — A string of new, ‘50s-style cottages with cheerfully shaded shingles line the southeast shore of Osoyoos Lake, a long finger lake straddling the U.S.-Canada border. The vacation village brings to mind nostalgic days of beachside leisure. Even the screen doors slam.

The cottages have all been sold, and more are being built to meet demand from Canadians, who are snapping up vacation homes in the U.S. as Americans watch their wallets and sell their second homes amid a housing crunch.

GravatarThe only thing working is haloscan. Now that's a change.

Only goes to prove that anything's possible.

GravatarI'm listening to NToddler's paxcast for the anniversary of MLK's assassination.

Best ever. Fucker needs a "Virginia will cry" disclaimer, though.

GravatarYeah, Moe. When in college, I had the choice of either doing Ray, and his proclaimed innocence - or some part of Vietnam bilking money off taxpayers.

I chose Lady Bird Johnson's then 51% share of Bell Textron, and the Army/DoD purchase of the OH-58 helicopter.

GravatarHeadline from the Minneapolis StarTribune: "Pink Slip Nation." Me thinks this a great and precise phase to throw at the Republicans.

GravatarBTW: Blackwater's merc contracts re-authorized.

GravatarFollow-up. No doubt the "Pink Slip Nation" will lead to the "Pink SLip Generation."

Gravatarql -- I'm getting scrabulous, albeit slowly.

Are you using Firefox? It might want to be restarted. Mine gets squirrely sometimes.

GravatarLest we forget: why we continue...

I was running into brick walls in IE and couldn't get into much either this morning so I moved into MoxyFox.

GravatarI am going to go clear out my cookies, that should help.

GravatarScrabulous has been acting up itself, like it did a month or so ago.

GravatarMornin', gang. Whassup?

GravatarI gave you guys sheets. You've been eating potato chips on these.

GravatarDozens of officers

"More than 1,000 Iraqi soldiers and policemen either refused to fight or simply abandoned their posts during the inconclusive assault against Shiite militias in Basra last week, a senior Iraqi government official said Thursday. Iraqi military officials said the group included dozens of officers, including at least two senior field commanders in the battle."

Cue Country Joe .....

GravatarI cherish my Native American roots and it was insulting what he said.
