wp...8052903266.html I'm not a global warming believer. I'm not a global warming denier. I'm a global warming agnostic who believes instinctively that it can't be very good to pump lots of CO2 into the atmosphere but is equally convinced that those who presume to know exactly where that leads are talking through their hats.
environmental activists, attended by compliant scientists and opportunistic politicians, are advocating radical economic and social regulation. "The largest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity," warns Czech President Vaclav Klaus, "is no longer socialism. It is, instead, the ambitious, arrogant, unscrupulous ideology of environmentalism."
Two decades ago, however, socialism and communism died rudely, then were buried forever by the empirical demonstration of the superiority of market capitalism everywhere from Thatcher's England to Deng's China, where just the partial abolition of socialism lifted more people out of poverty more rapidly than ever in human history.
Just as the ash heap of history beckoned, the intellectual left was handed the ultimate salvation: environmentalism. Now the experts will regulate your life not in the name of the proletariat or Fabian socialism but -- even better -- in the name of Earth itself.
So what does the global warming agnostic propose as an alternative? First, more research -- untainted and reliable -- to determine (a) whether the carbon footprint of man is or is not lost among the massive natural forces (from sunspot activity to ocean currents) that affect climate, and (b) if the human effect is indeed significant, whether the planetary climate system has the homeostatic mechanisms (like the feedback loops in the human body, for example) with which to compensate.

Chicken with shiitakes grilled in corn husks
Servings: 4
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 5 ounces each and 1 1/2 -inches thick) 1 teaspoon salt, plus additional to taste 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus additional to taste 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, plus additional for lightly oiling husks 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice 16 shiitake mushroom caps, wiped clean and thinly sliced 2 tablespoons chopped chives About 18 large, wide, fresh corn husks 1 lime, cut into wedges 1. Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper and put them in a shallow bowl. Add the oil, lime juice, shiitakes and chives and mix well. Marinate at room temperature for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. 2. In a large bowl, soak the corn husks in very hot water until they are pliable, about 15 minutes. Heat a grill until very hot. 3. Drain the corn husks and wipe them dry. Lay 3 to 4 out on a work surface so that they overlap. With a brush, lightly oil the insides of the husks. Place 1 chicken breast in the center. Repeat with the remaining breasts. Divide the mushroom mixture over the 4 chicken breasts. Season with more salt and pepper to taste. Fold the husks over and up to make tidy packages. (Tie them with thin strips of the remaining husks, or use caulk.) 4. Lay the packets seam side down onto the grill and cook 7 to 8 minutes on each side. Serve in the charred husks with a wedge of lime.

whether the planetary climate system has the homeostatic mechanisms (like the feedback loops in the human body, for example) with which to compensate.
I believe what this stupid turd is referring to is the oceanic absorption of CO2, which now appears to be reaching saturation point. In other words, all indications are that the "homeostatic mechanisms" are starting to break down.

"Chuck Todd at MSNBC First Read has an interesting take on the real significance of today's committee meeting. He predicts that the committee's decisions won't change the outcome of the presidential nomination race, but will mark a key milestone in the changing of the guard in the Democratic party:
But we should step back contemplate one giant fact about today's event: it could be the final piece of evidence for the political world that the Clintons no longer control the Democratic Party. It's actually something many of us realized some time ago but it probably hasn't sunk in yet for Joe and Jane Democrat.
But we are likely to leave this hotel today all realizing that this is Barack Obama's party now. Any ruling that doesn't net Clinton more than 20 delegates and doesn't acknowledge the popular vote results in both Florida and Michigan is going to be seen as favorable to Obama. And all evidence is pointing to a ruling today that ends up favoring Obama." http://www.dailykos.com/story/20...1723/854/

"A week after DNC took FL's delegates away, Michigan gov. signs law moving their primary up too
John Aravosis (DC) · 5/31/2008
Joe is now at the Rules meeting, he just ran into FDL's Jane Hamsher. The meeting doesn't start until 930AM.
In the meantime, I was just reading my Washington Post and noticed something rather significant. The DNC sanctioned Florida on August 25, 2007 by stripping away its delegates. That made it painfully clear what would happen to any state that moved its primary up in violation of DNC rules. So what does Michigan do one week later, on September 4, 2007? Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, a Democrat, signs a law establishing their January 15th primary, in violation of DNC rules. Michigan knew exactly what was going to happen if they broke the rules, they just watched Florida lose its delegates one week earlier, and they did it anyway. And now they're acting all surprised.
There really are some atrocious issues underlying this entire conflict.
1. Florida and Michigan Democrats were complicit in all of this. This wasn't something the Republicans forced on them - they wanted to break the rules, and they did. "
Roger Stone and his gang of kinky thugs in Florida were all concerned about counting the votes, and the 2 for 1 sale on ball gags at the Miami franchise of Leather World.

I'm not a person who looks to be inspired or emotionally connect with a candidate: I want administrators, not heroes, running my government. (And no, I'm not using words like "cultists," though I do think it's a little weird that some Obama supporters cannot brook even the slightest bit of critique of their guy, whether from me or Paul Krugman.) I think there are genuine reasons to view Obama with caution, not least his cultivation of religious support which I, like anyone, would like to see on the side of progressive politics, but which all too often comes with the baggage of a Donnie McClurkin. And I want universal health care. And I don't think one person should centralize all the fundraising for all the candidates on their side of the aisle through their personal campaign. It's a bad precedent, even worse than the DLC, and yet no one wants to talk about this issue except to praise the amount of money being raised...

By all means, let's build nuclear. First plant at Crawford, TX. Second plant at Kennebunkport, ME.
Of course, the sole source bidder should be Halliburton with Cheney in charge and the remnants of Enron as consultants and Bush as the decider.
.........
how can you ask for further research when it's completely clear the already massive body of evidence is doing nothing to push you off your ideological plinth? surely any further research will be refuted by such deniers in similar terms, unless of course it's research from the climate change skeptic margins, in which case you're all ears. the views of a tiny minority of skeptics (and there are skeptics on every issue - look at that 911 conspiracy nonsense) are not going to change the net position of the entire scientific establishment.
the truth is, krauthammer doesn't want more research, he wants more climate change denial. for someone who talks about free market solutions, he can't see the benefit of positive growth in the energy sector, and would rather it wind down on its dwindling base of resources.
neoconservatism is over as a political body of thought - bush's reign of ignorance has seen to that - and krauthammer is one of its trademark proponents of hate speech. such a backwards way of dealing with an issue deserves to be discredited at every opportunity.
.....
The Green movement is most certainly one of the False Religions described in the bible. For those readers of this who are Christian, and think cutting down trees is against "nature", ask yourself "What was Jesus Christ's occupation for most of his adult life?" Yes, he was a carpenter.
The earth is here for us during this age. It doesn't really matter if it is warming or cooling now. The Bible tells us that it will be replaced by a new earth. Worship the Creator, not the creation!

I'm glad they're distinguishing FL from MI because it was Republicans in FL who screwed this up. So, atrios, it isn't quite accurate to say those who created the mess are tasked with fixing it today.

yup, and when asked why the DEMs voted on the 'package', it was clear that there were important provisions in the bill for fair elections that Floridians deserved to have placed into law.

My idea is 4 or 5 primary days near the end of each month, starting in January. It should be possible to divide things up in state groupings so that roughly the same number of delegates are at stake in each of the primaries, and then rotate the primary groupings in subsequent elections.
I don't like a single national primary day because it gives too much clout to name recognition and money -- people who can mount a national campaign from the get-go.

The Super-Dels are letting Hillary rip the party. WHY?
I believe that they are purging the party by allowing someone enough rope to hang themself.
Chuck Todd has more.

Rush Limbaugh was this close to voting a straight democratic ticket until he saw the protesters on Fox News Saturday.
He's been disillusioned. He is taking the next week off with a bottle of blue pills, his Ricky Martin mixed tapes, and another trip to the Dominican Republic.

By all means, let's build nuclear. First plant at Crawford, TX. Second plant at Kennebunkport, ME.
Of course, the sole source bidder should be Halliburton with Cheney in charge and the remnants of Enron as consultants and Bush as the decider
*
when I heard that GE made a deal with the Chinese for thirty some nuke plants I dreaded it. The placement of nukes near the multi-fault lines proves my point. Those commies have gross regional corruption issues that American corps gladly 'encumber' themselves with, all at the expense of the commoner.

That little bit of code speak is usually directed against Pagans who view divinity as immanent. Now they're using against Greens, as well, I guess. Well, there is a lot of overlap.

I suppose it's a function of the human psyche that if one is pretty much a moron about a lot of things, if one is given a place at a major newspaper to write on whatever one likes, one is very likely to behave like a entitled moron.

OT proud auntie post
My nephew is a lefty pitcher for the Bucknell Bisons. His mom writes:
Dave said the atmosphere (and mostly pro-Seminole 10,000 + fans) was super intense andthe whole Bucknell bench was hanging on every pitch and screaming their lungs out.
They blanked Florida State 7-0 and go the the Super Regionals.
