Kidding aside, NTodd is correct about the generational nature of struggle.
My very clever nephew, a year from starting college, has read a political book I gave him, and evinced a further interest in political material. I now have a chance to offer up books and documentaries.
When I visit, I can make sure he's included in the inevitable political arguments that come on family holidays.
I can try to do my best to offer a firm, reasoned vision of a better future for him to consider.
There's so much to pick and choose from to work for a better tomorrow. This is one I feel a duty to perform.

NYT: The American International Group said on Friday that it had already drawn down $61 billion of the $85 billion emergency bridge loan it received from the Federal Reserve two weeks ago, an announcement that startled credit ratings agencies.
The emergency loan was supposed to buy the company time to sell its troubled assets in an orderly manner. But the sell-off has not yet begun, and now the insurer faces the additional pressure of trying to sell the businesses at a time when potential buyers are having trouble borrowing money.
So when does AIG get its second taxpayer-funded bailout?

I'm curious as to where those who think Americans are bone-stupid and pig-ignorant think they should go to become well-informed: network news from Charlie and Brian? Cable news from Matthews and Blitzer? Or are Time and Newsweek magazines the bastions of truth to turn to? Even the NYT and Post have not been free of partisan inaccuracies, especially wrto politics.

Seems to me there is no need to "go" anywhere. The information required to form an opinion is all around us. Part of what Debs and his crowd did was to show people how to think for themselves. Perhaps TV, radio and The Internet are short circuiting peoples minds? Personally, I'd blame it on the curriculum in the schools.
I just realized that the Tastee Freez inside joke has kind of petered out.
It still rears its head like Putin in Alaskan airspace sometimes, but it's had a good, long shelf life and should not be mourned; rather, celebrate it and remember it fondly by lighting a candle every night by your bedside as you say a little prayer: oh Lord, protect me and mine creemee treat, freez mine enemies, and give me a life full of sprinkles, all for fiddy cent, yea verily.

Low information journalism and low information voters.
It's all about the affect.

If only there were places full of books you could borrow for free. I'd also love to see some sort of "network" connecting "terminals" together where people could share information. Pipe dreams, I know...
And when these Americans go to these places, exactly how will they know which of those nice books by Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly to read?
I hear that Time magazine awarded some political blog as blog of the year or something.
Good thing that working people have so much free time on their hands to pursue such activities...

Is it clear that this syndrome can lead to permanent damage?
Don't get all accurate, statistical, and geeky on me. A mother always worries. How will they carry all of those babies I am forcing them to have?
I'm working on a device that allows you to "call" into their homes and speak to them as though you were right there!
Hey, could you send a few my way? My cell phone bill is $500 over my free minutes.

Whoops! The WaPo posted one of the most informative graphics of this election season concerning the candidates' tax proposals.
I didn't see this referenced in the Media Matters post. Granted, they should probably be reprinting this from time to time, but it isn't exactly "news", is it? I believe this was from back in June...
