You know, it's getting very hard to argue with the Green believe that there is no difference between the parties. Other than abortion, and gay rights, what practical difference is there? I'm not well-off enough not to care more about the issues that effect other people than the issues that effect me. I'm not gay, and I'm not a wealthy woman, so what does the Democratic party really fucking do that I should care about?

Harry Reid emphasized that yesterday's measure is temporary, and that the Senate will revisit the issue in six months. That's not exactly reassuring. For one thing, Dems will be just as fearful in February as they are now. For another, that's six months of the administration having largely unchecked surveillance power.

Pelosi and Reid are repub light and both are an utter and complete fucking joke of a failure. Pelosi and Reid should be impeached. Reid and Pelosi only lead when it involves converting the executive's inane authoritarian rants into law. Example FISA. Congress (Senate already House to follow) will yield on FISA, because after all the dems and repubs are both worthless craven for power Shylok like money grubbing corporate whores.
Anyone who thinks any difference exists between the current dems and repubs is a blind fool.
DC needs a naturally occurring wipe out plague while Congress is in session. Trent Lott agrees.

Terrorism isn't even a real threat, Jeebus. Think about it. 1993 was the first WTC bombing. 2001 was the second. It took the "supervillains" almost a decade to pull off their attack, and they got lucky and/or the Bush government did everything possible to look the other way.
Just as much death and destruction was caused by bad government during Katrina and the 35W bridge collapse. Our politicians have been fooled into thinking there's a legion of bad guys trying to get us when the real threat is from the GOP and misgovernance.

It’s time to hit the phone lines, boys and girls. The House will be taking up the FISA legislation — and I refuse to allow the Constitution and probable cause to go down without a fight. So let’s hit the phones, shall we? (H/T to katymine for the numbers)
Please take some time today to call your elected representative and tell them that you don’t trust the Bush Administration, and neither should they. And while you are at it, let the leadership know that as well:
I just called my Rep, Albio Sires and told them that I didn't want to see a collapse like in the Senate, nor allow BUsh and Gonzales even more unchecked power.

[...](g)(1)(A) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title and subject to the provisions of this subsection, the Attorney General may, with the concurrence of the Director of National Intelligence , appoint appropriate supervisory or executive personnel within the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency to authorize electronic surveillance on a United States person in the United States on an emergency basis pursuant to the provisions of this subsection.

Reid has now authorized the AG to spy on whomever the democratic candidate for president happens to be -- and to float video tape (nowherever do you suppose THAT came from) or whatever damaging material can be spun by the GOP campaign.
The GOP obviously think they will govern forever -- this is one more tool they will use to assure that.
How can anyone who has observed the GOP use the State Department, the military, the Justice Department, heck the Surgeon General -- for purely partisan campaign work think that they don't want spying for the same purpose.
Certainly there is no evidence of any particular concern with national security.

Job one for the house and senate is (should be) to defend and protect the constitution.
After 6 years of the Cheney administration riding rough-shod over it, job one upon the start of the latest legislative session should have been to redress this (at the least), followed by full and open investigations, impeachment, and if possible, incarceration of guilty parties.
People have said for years, "The dems can't run as Republicans Lite".

The difference between the Democrats and Arlan Spector is that Spector at least has party loyalty as some sort of fig leaf for his "caving" to Bush.
Let's get something straight: the Democrats have "caved" to Bush so often and under such remarkable circumstances that the meme that Bush is somehow "defeating" them is no longer credible. Bush is actually furthering the Democrats' own agenda. They actually do support him and Rove and actually are bipartisan. There is no other explanation. The Democrats are the party of Bush every bit as much as are the Republicans.

It's not that there are no differences between the parties, the problem is there is a huge difference. The Republicans are arrogantly confident and the Democrats are undeniably a bunch of craven little pussies.
(Cue the Democratic apologists' tortured explanations about why this is actually better for us in the long run. Then swiftly kick the nearest apologist in the ass.)
Another recent example of Democratic pussyhood is their decision to drop the increase in CAFE standards, despite the fact that that policy is overwhelmingly supported across the board among Republican and Democratic voters alike.
This has happened so many times now that I can't be shocked by it, only disgusted.

I'm not sure why, but the democrats in congress all seem to think that their constituency consists of sunday talk show hosts, instead of the people who voted them into office.
The polls clearly show that, no matter how much dems get beat up in the media, the people want them to face up to bush and deny him a) his war b) his assault on civil liberties c) his desire to rape social security d) well, just about everything he wants.
I expect any day to read that the dems have "compromised" on more tax breaks, privatizing social security, and a bush demand that the 2008 elections be postponed indefinitely.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Look at the list of senate democrats and find me the RELIABLE liberal - you know, the one who actually votes the way he or she talks on a CONSISTENT basis:
Democratics in both houses are too stupid to understand that fear of being painted in some unflattering light is killing the party's chances in 08. How do you energize voters when everything you do is the opposite of what you were voted in to accomplish?
It doesn't matter what Democrats do, the corporate media is going to slime them. So, they might as well do the right thing. The electorate understands that the media is in the tank for the right wing. Voters sent a clear message in 06 - they want these a-holes to stand up for principle, rather than always caving in to the most unpopular president in modern times.
The media is irrelevant. Want proof: Gore's victory in 00 and Kerry's in 04. Both ran horrendous campaigns, and still the won the popular vote. We all know what happened in Ohio in 04. I'm sure most of you have heard that something like 60 of 88 counties in Ohio mysteriously "lost" their ballots from that election.
Oh, and Diane Feinstein - thanks for dropping the ball on electronic voting reform for the 08 election - what's so hard, we all vote on paper ballots.
The real problem in this country right now is not the GOP. They're not in the majority. The problem is that our democrats are really GOP lite. With very few exceptions, no one is representing the left, and it's taking us down the road to fascism at mock speed.
