GravatarTKK cheats!

GravatarAlas, I'll be stuck in Chicago

GravatarAlas I will not be there, but presenting my one-man show on Millard Fillmore in the greater Des Moines area.

GravatarMillard or Mallard?

GravatarI'll be watching news videos of idiots driving on the ice in Vermont

Gravatar(from dead thread)
Well, not to be a nattering nabob of negativism, but it appears that Iraq is about to fall apart completely.

Boy, that surge thing worked a treat.

While it is overwhelmingly likely that the economy (or what little is left of it) will be the dominant topic for election '08, Iraq may prove quite a bit more potent than certain (*cough* Rahm *cough*) captains of the Democratic cause might have thought.

GravatarHave a good time in Phillie, everyone.

Someone get pictures of the roof deck, if possible.

GravatarI guess TKK is not yet at 30,000 feet after all...

GravatarWhat the hell is the greater Des Moines area, five sheep and a horny minister?

GravatarCan't wait.

GravatarWell, not to be a nattering nabob of negativism, but it appears that Iraq is about to fall apart completely.

McBush says, cue flower-throwing in 3, 2, 1...

GravatarWhat the hell is the greater Des Moines area, five sheep and a horny minister?

Greater Des Moines is Lesser Minnesota.

GravatarYou guys should invent a new drink while you are there - call it the Dirty Fucking Hippy bonus points if it smells like patchouli without containing any.

Gravatar I guess TKK is not yet at 30,000 feet after all.

And I hope my train does not reach that altitude.

GravatarZap, you still in the frozen north?

GravatarKenosha --

When you leaving?

We're going to try to catch the 3:01 out of Penn Station.

GravatarWell, not to be a nattering nabob of negativism, but it appears that Iraq is about to fall apart completely.

GravatarNo apologies necessary, Atrios. For you, I'll even change strings.

I'm kinda hoping we get all DFH during my set by participating in the Earth Hour -- I look much better by candlelight.

no one could have predicted. . .

so there goes the cease fire, eh?

GravatarWell, not to be a nattering nabob of negativism, but it appears that Iraq is about to fall apart completely.

All snark removed, I really thought that had already happened some time ago.

I mean, what has the "Iraqi government" ever really governed? The Green Zone?

GravatarI forget, is Bill stumping for Hillary or McCain? He remarked in his latest rally that McCain is a great moderate that can reach across the aisle.

GravatarGromit,

My plane leaves @ 1300 hrs. I'll be here for a bit.

I'm only 15 minutes from MSP, so Zapette's gonna duck outta work for a bit and drop me off around 11. I'll take lots of Larry Craig Memorial Bathroom pics.

GravatarHOT rocks. one of the few good music recommends i got from the a-man. the rest is just fey pasty white frat boys or gypsy shit.

GravatarReferring to Bill as stumping is, er, problematic.

Tet Offensive Part II

Westmoreland says the VC are on the run and BOOM.

Petraeus says the surge is working and violence is down and BOOM.

GravatarHere's a nice story:

Airport security force woman to remove nipple ring with pliers

Insane.

Gravatar When you leaving?

We're going to try to catch the 3:01 out of Penn Station.

I was thinking 2:00 or so? Are you taking NJ Transit or Amtrak?

GravatarHi, RMJ.

What I meant was it appears we're about to pick sides for good, and engage in a civil war. Up till now it was sort of a peace-keeping duty, very hazardous, but not quite at the level of open warfare.

I think this phase is done, now, and it is pretty much gonna be Leningrad (Rattenkreig) for the next N years, where N is a reasonably large integer.

Gravatarif you are worried about $$$, NJ transit to trenton and then SEPTA to center city is a lot cheaper.

GravatarWho was the Brainiac that thought Saddam's Palace would be a great building to house The US Embassy?

Gravatarof course taking teh Chinatown Bus is the cheapest of all.

GravatarHere's a nice story:

Don't know why anyone bothers to fly anymore. An airline boycott would work wonders.

Since we can't seem to get together and elect intelligent legislators.....

GravatarI'll be there.

Once I go put the ferrets away, take a shower, pack, and get to the airport.

Shit.

Gotta go.

See you bats this afternoon!

A.

Gravatarwhat, no new past in the last 14 minutes. FL is slowing down.

GravatarPetraeus says the surge is working

I don't think it was ever intended to do anything but delay things until Chimpy could slink away.

GravatarAirport security force woman to remove nipple ring with pliers

That's dumb, everyone knows you use your teeth to remove a nipple ring.

Stupid Government.

GravatarRattenkrieg? thats sounds yummy. is that a type of pretzel or strudel?

Gravatar Once I go put the ferrets away, take a shower, pack, and get to the airport.

You're not packing the ferrets?!

GravatarAre you taking NJ Transit or Amtrak?
The Kenosha Kid

NJ Transit.

Amtrak's like a billion dollars. It would be cheaper to fucking fly to Philadelphia.

GravatarOkay, I better tear myself away and finish doing the dishes, then hit the road.

I'm gonna be computer free for the next two days (unless I start to get real pale and shaky and some sympathetic atriot let's me post a comment or two using their computer...)

Good days ahead, and nights, too.

Peace.

GravatarNobody ever listens to me.

Gravatarwhat, no new past in the last 14 minutes.

Don't fuck with my time-space continuum!

GravatarAirport security force woman to remove nipple ring with pliers

I guess they've never seen a pierced nipple in Lubbock. Up here in the United States it's not that uncommon.

GravatarDefinitely NJ Transit. Gets you from Penn Station to Trenton for a fraction of the price.

GravatarI don't think it was ever intended to do anything but delay things until Chimpy could slink away.

I think that's exactly right. It appears it ain't gonna work.

Gravatarher whiskeyness,

How's the weather where you are? Snowing pretty hard up here in Burlington, and forecast sounded worse to the south.

Not looking forward to the long drive, but will be happy to see you in Philly.

GravatarWho was the Brainiac that thought Saddam's Palace would be a great building to house The US Embassy?
Unrepentant Fenian

I understand they're building a new joint, but (surprise) it's behind schedule.

Gravatarrmj,

Phooey. I have seen your picture, and I KNOW you are handsome.

Beauty, brawn, and brains. What more could a woman want?

GravatarSon can't believe I'm getting to see Rude Pundit, whom he loves. It always surprises him when I do anything that he thinks is cool.

GravatarRattenkrieg = rat pastry

Everything sounds better in German.

GravatarWhat I meant was it appears we're about to pick sides for good, and engage in a civil war. Up till now it was sort of a peace-keeping duty, very hazardous, but not quite at the level of open warfare.

We are a side. And we've been paying off at least two sides in this conflict for sometime now. That's the "surge" that worked; the money surge. Now that isn't working, because elections are coming up, and Maliki wants his side to win. So he's trying to suppress Sadr's supporters.

We were the third side of this triangle until Sadr decided to stop fighting us. Now we're back to where we started, even though McCain calls this "progress." Once again we, like everybody else, are fighting to be in control.

Which means nobody is in control.

GravatarDon't know why anyone bothers to fly anymore. An airline boycott would work wonders.

Isn't that the truth?

GravatarHmm. Well, have some dumplings. I wish we could be civilized, too.

GravatarAnd then from Trenton you go directly to the "suburban" septa stop...?

Gravatarthey got me a room...........ah a piwwow for my head.

Gravatarim already in Philly. :P

Gravatar...it appears that Iraq is about to fall apart completely...

I really thought that had already happened some time ago...I mean, what has the "Iraqi government" ever really governed? The Green Zone?
Rmj, Bemused Theologist

It's more like their ability to pretend that they have created anything that will stand up on its own for longer than five minutes after we leave has been shattered.

That, and of course they are dropping bombs on Iraqi cities again now. That's never a good sign.

GravatarAnd then from Trenton you go directly to the "suburban" septa stop...?
Culture of Truth

There better be signs.

I'm counting on signs.

GravatarWho was the Brainiac that thought Saddam's Palace would be a great building to house The US Embassy?

That would be His Excellency, Paul Bremer

He's right IMHO, and it gives you (if you're not a conservative) a good buzz.

GravatarThe two pronged attack by the Shiites is genius. They attack Baghdad to prove our occupation is not legit and they attack South in Basra to disrupt the oil flow.

No one could have predicted...

GravatarWho was the Brainiac that thought Saddam's Palace would be a great building to house The US Embassy?

I am betting Bremer. It had a pool and cost only $20 billion at that point.

GravatarBrainwreck

I have been public in my statements that I believe that NATO benefits, and Ukraine and Georgia benefit, if and when there is membership.

GravatarHolden, I wish he'd take of his CiC jacket and make fun of a Marine to his or her face.

GravatarYeah I looked at it on map. Bit of a misnomer, but as long you can get there from Trenton.

I assume there will be a porter from Eschacon waiting for me to take my bags up to the hotel?

Gravatar3,200 Marines, plus their enablers. Inside joke.

The Chimpster is really burning every bridge in sight, now.

GravatarIn The Interests

But I've analyzed the situation and I believe it's in the interests that there is that clear path forward.

GravatarWhat's the sound of 3,200 Marines not laughing?

GravatarCoT, Septa terminates in Trenton, I believe, so the trains go from there back into Philly. I'm catching it (tomorrow) on the PA side and taking it to Market East in Center City. I believe that's a block or two from the hotel.

But double check at Trenton to make sure I'm right.

GravatarI will thank Molly. I will thank ql. I will thank res. I will thank V4V. I will thank EVERYONE THAT STANDS TO BE IN THE SAME ROOM AS ME!!!

GravatarHe's incredible. The lights have come up, the set has collapsed, the crowd is nervous in hard chairs, and the imbecile writhes on the stage babbling and drooling.

GravatarGromit--just rain here (they had said perhaps snow for morning, but we got only a flake or two). When I realized you were going, I thought of hatching a carpool plan!

Good on the weather. Thanks.

I was gonna offer to pick you up, but we have to get a late start on account of these pesky jobs, and the I91 route is an hour or two longer for us. Maybe next time.

Gravatar I assume there will be a porter from Eschacon waiting for me to take my bags up to the hotel?

The porters are from Nicetown and will be happy to relieve you of your belongings.

GravatarWell, ill write a letter to SEPTA to get tehm to change the name to "Underneath the City Station"

GravatarCerebral Vortex

So the first step, however, is for there to be a clear path forward, so that people understand -- and I believe it's in our collective interest that we offer a clear path forward.

Leningrad? I hope it does not get that bad on our watch. To me, it is looking almost exactly like Tet and its aftermath. We will hold on, maintaining a thin veneer of control, until we throw up our hands and say "Apres moi, le deluge" and skidaddle. After that, I think it looks a lot like Sarajevo for N years, until some coalition of shiite militias rolls over the sunni areas and "pacifies" them.

GravatarI think that I get off at Market East (12th & Filbert). That's like two blocks from the hotel.

GravatarOops, would you believe Stalingrad?

We knew what you meant. It's Volgograd now anyway.

GravatarSynaptic Shutdown

My first reaction to watching the Iraqi government respond forcefully and to make it abundantly clear that -- I think the exact -- I can't remember the exact words of the Prime Minister, but "criminal elements" I know were a part of his declaration -- would be dealt with.

market east or suburban work. market east is better for the regular marriot.

GravatarThese fools have shown the world that there is a government worse than a brutal, repressive dictatorship. Saddam is laughing his ass off in his little corner of the abyss.

Gravatar.Oops, would you believe Stalingrad?

Ahh. That makes more sense, although I still don't think that is how it will look. Leningrad was basically a 3-year German siege of the city that resulted in over a million noncombatants starving to death. Very bad show, that.

Rules Out Loud Screaming In The Decision-Making Process

Therefore, the decision about our troop levels will be based upon not politics, or not who can scream the loudest, but based upon whether or not we can maintain the successes we've had.

GravatarTherefore, the decision about our troop levels will be based upon not politics, or not who can scream the loudest, but based upon whether or not we can maintain the successes we've had.

Some of that screaming will be coming from wounded and killed US Servicemen and women in Iraq.

If they are true, McCain is royally fucked. Why? Because even WITH those defections, he is still dead even with eoither Obama or Clinton in a head-tohead matchup in those very same polls!

So, if Democrats actually start coming home to the eventual Democratic nominee, McCain is fucking screwed.
