Re Slaughter - I love the way she compares a former UN ambassador, a current aide to the sitting vice-president, and a columnist with a national magazine to two university professors known only within a small sphere, and a blogger (much as we love him). Yeah, those partisan attacks are really equitable.

I thought partisanship was when you supported your party for no other reason than that it's your party and attacked the other party for no other reason than that it's the other party.
Turns out it's just something to rave about for columnists who want to remain above the battle while berating everyone slugging it out in the trenches.

fuck bi-partisanship.
really. unless they come around to my way of thinking. short of that, i'll continue to insist on what i believe to be right.
I don't think it's "shut up hippies" exactly, since I don't think Bolton would qualify.
But I thought the same thing reading Slaughter's article: It didn't seem to have anything to do with "partisanship," at least not any definition of partisanship that I'm familiar with.

I got a pretty good idea of where Sergeant Anne-Marie Slaughter sits on the political spectrum when she called THIS guy a "seasoned moderate":
"Negroponte served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 2001 to 2004. But it is his time as ambassador to Honduras from 1981 to 1985 that earned him a reputation for supporting widespread human rights abuses and campaigns of terror.
He played a key role in coordinating US covert aid to the Contras who targeted civilians in Nicaragua and shoring up a CIA-backed death squad in Honduras. During Negroponte’s tenure, US military aid to Honduras skyrocketed from 3.9 million dollars to over 77 million. Much of this went to ensure the Honduran army’s loyalty in the battle against popular movements throughout Central America."
"I am very glad that I don't work with a bunch of wingers and rethugs.
fourlegsrgood"
It is just funny, I could point out a parallel incident on the National level to a localized one in the company. One for one.
It is like we are a simulation or model for what starts up in the White House. We have all the main players.

This is how a CNN, Press the Meet, Fux News interview should go for dems.
Interviewer - "Some people are saying the dems are defeatists with their cries to end the war early"
Dem - "What?.... (look at the interviewer like he's the biggest @sshole on earth"
Interviewer - "Why are the dems insisting on ending the war?"
Dem - "Where did you get these questions? Let me talk to your producer, right now"
Have 20 or 30 folks do this to the news outlets and watch the grief happen for the talking hedzs.

Nor, back when Prescott Bush was trying to take down Roosevelt with an armed coup. That was certainly not partisan at all.
The Republicans put party above everything, including their oath to the Constitution. Funny how all the talk about the evils of partisanship just started when the Dems took back Congress and grew some ovaries.

Those people who might wig out have already done so in the aftermath of 9/11 by turning Shrub into a Cult of Personality figure.
So that leaves 70-percent of the population relatively sane and likely to stay that way.
Besides, what are terrorists going to do that's liable to drive people nuts, crash airliners into the World Trade Center?

OK, sally. Call the RNC and volunteer if you like Republican rule so much.

Want an example? Probably not, you already have it all figured out. But just in case, I've got two words for you - Minimum Wage.
Pardon if I don't get back to you when and if you reply. You have already lost.
Eet ees too bad that Slaughter wasn't een South America back een the day, she could have seen negroponte's "bipartisansheep" up close and personal.
Ooh, si, Honduran death squads being notoriously bipartisan.
Certanamente, eet takes a real spirit of civility and cooperation amongst all parties to rape mothers een front of their children, and shoot nuns een the head.
You would think that after the 8 years of Clinton triangulaten that the Democratic party would not be so eager to continue taking it in the bobo. The new Republican will never give in to any progressive legilation and hope that the Dim Dems will once again control the discourse. Fuck me once, shame on you, you know the rest.

My email to Ms. Slaughter
The anger from the left/progressives manifest because these calls for "civility" and bipartisanship seem to come only when the right/conservatives are down. The same people calling for "bipartisanship" were nowhere to be found during the Clinton years. Where were the calls for "civility" during the run-up to the Iraq fiasco? Many of us who opposed the war we called unpatriotic, traitors and terrorist sympathizers not just on "right wing" radio and Fox news but in the mainstream press as well. Where was/is bipartisanship/civility on Sundays when the leading news shows have panels made up of only supports of the war (seen MTP).
We have also seen that the right uses the call of "bipartisanship" as cover to weaken bills (see the latest Homeland Security Bill, the continuing funding of abstinence only "education" etc) or bipartisan commission work (see 9-11 Commission and Iraq Study Group) by requesting finding with a unanimous "consensus".
Finally, remember that the Democratic leadership in 2000 (after having witnessed a stolen election) pledged bipartisanship only to have this administration use every opportunity (before and especially after 9-11) to belittle or ignore the Democrats.
So yes, after the hard lessons of 2000, 2002, and 2004, we are in no mood to be lectured about "civility" from those who enabled this administration and the Republican leadership into the mess we are currently in.
