I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Gravatar..and then it keeps on keeping on.

GravatarThen Kodos eats the remaining super delegates and there is much rejoicing!

GravatarThen Obama is the nominee. And our long national nightmare is over.

GravatarArbitrary compromises are awesome!
We don't make anyone happy, don't solve anything, and just make it official that rules are optional when inconvenient.

This will not have any repercussions in future primaries, I'm sure.

Gravatarvoters rule!

Gravatarpretty kooky.

GravatarAnd it's over.

ya gotta love the democratic process and the Democratic process.

Get her out of the Senate?

Gravatar+24 net for Clinton

GravatarObama may declare victory here on Tuesday.

GravatarIts not really a party till the beer and pizza arrive anyway.

GravatarI've had Girl Scout leaders like that woman.

GravatarSo, plus 24 for HRC, but where does that leave the cumulative totals?

GravatarWhat just happened

GravatarMs. Clinton will protest this decision at the credentials committee and next attempt to get an injunction.

Cool. Legal drama.

Gravatar"And it's over.

You're right. Hil and Bill just want to keep dragging us over the coals through June. Their statemanship is ... staggering.

GravatarIts not really a party till the beer and pizza arrive anyway.

We have a nonna maria, thin crust pie with sausage and olives.

Iced tea. No beer.

GravatarSo, plus 24 for HRC, but where does that leave the cumulative totals?

Obama was ahead by ~250, or so. So not much difference.

Gravatar19 in favor, 8 opposed, no abstentions re: Michigan.

GravatarTomorrow we return to McClellan's book. The Republicans are the opposition.

So Michigan will get half votes?

GravatarWhat does this do to the number needed to nominate. And how far away from that is Obama?

GravatarThe Republicans are the opposition.

The Republicans and people who supported Clinton.

Remember, there are three parties now.

GravatarK19 in favor, 8 opposed, no abstentions re: Michigan.

This hints at the fact that we are more united than some would like us to be.

GravatarSo good to tear the party apart for that.

Oh wait, how many "popular votes" does she get for that made-up metric she uses?

Gravatarobama has resigned from his church, reminding me of my concern. that under pressure, he will fold like an origami swan.

i'm not sure that is worse than clinton's reaction to pressure, which was the opposite.

sigh. i know i'm not being fair. but just "beating mccain" isn't good enough for me. i mean it is mccain, for god's sake. there is no way in hell any republican - especially mccain - should beat any democrat this year. it doesn't matter which one. the race is independant of the contenders.

Gravatarre: people in rafters shouting "McCain, McCain"...

I bet Hillary would hate to be the new Ralph Nader.

Just a guess.

GravatarSo FLA won't be seated but Michigan's will?

GravatarAbout HRC:

"Men [Women] make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past."

Her past is not even past.

GravatarIt's over! Obama has the lead. Wheww.

Hey look, Josh Marshall has another Lanny Davis blooper up!

GravatarSo good to tear the party apart for that.

Don't be blue. People like a good purging.

GravatarMichigan's delegates will be seated at 69 Clinton/59 Obama - a half vote each.

GravatarMaybe I'll still be proven wrong, but it seemed clear to me that the only outcome that Hillary would accept today is seating all of FL and MI as-is. And of course that was never going to happen, because it's completely indefensible - practically, logically and legally.

So necessarily, any compromise was not going to end the in-fighting. Given that's the case, they should've stuck to principle and let their original decision not to seat the delegates, stick.

There will probably just be a replay of this with the Credentials Committee.

GravatarLooks like Obama wins.

GravatarFivethirtyeight.com is a pretty solid resource for votes allocated/needed, etc.

Gravatar"Men [Women] make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past."

Everybody's got baggage?

GravatarGet her out of the Senate?

Gravatar Given that's the case, they should've stuck to principle and let their original decision not to seat the delegates, stick.

That's exactly my feeling.

And the irony here in Michigan is that the Dem leaders moved the primary up, in part, to aid Hillary Clinton. Instead, this tactic hurt her.

Gravatarobama has resigned from his church, reminding me of my concern. that under pressure, he will fold like an origami swan.

Ooooh, sorry, no.

GravatarObama's new magic number: 64?

He'll have it by Tuesday.

Some of their delegates have really big asses.

GravatarGiven that's the case, they should've stuck to principle and let their original decision not to seat the delegates, stick.

That seemed like the thing to do to me.

GravatarThe story's not written yet.

GravatarWe knew this May 6. Gave McCombober a month head start.

It's not really a race like that. He's still not raising money, and the party is perfectly capable of targeting him even now (as Obama is doing), raising money, and nailing his ass after the traditional start of the General. The handwringing about ending this strikes me as a bit silly.

Whoo. Hillary Clinton is about to become the Ron Paul of the Democratic Party, thanks to those types of rabid supporters.

Gravatarthers, from your link:

Clusters of people in Hillary shirts ask to take their photo with him, one woman covered in Clinton buttons introduces him to Greta Van Susteren, and he estimates he has handed out 500 fliers.

what does that tell you?

GravatarOf the eight Hillary supporters I quiz at the protest (six of them women), only one says she'd even consider voting for Obama in the fall. "It's sad. I'm a lifelong Democrat and the party's been taken over by these Obama people who say they want 'change,'" gripes Linda of Horseheads, New York, outside the Marriott as a honking car decorated with a painting of Hillary, a glued-on bust of Cleopatra, and a tampon drives by. Linda, she says, has already gone to the state Board of Elections to learn how to write Hillary's name in in November. "So much has been stolen from her."

That's priceless stuff right there. You can't make it up.

GravatarSo much for UNITY, you bloggers are in love with Hillary that you all never realized how truly nasty she could be.

I say it again, It was just Bush that lied and people died, cause Bill and Hillary lied about WMD too - and people died.

Bill Clinton was in lock-step with Bush and Hillary is hell bend on destoring the PARTY. You guys should never have placated that bitch cause she isn't going away.

I'm sure alot of us will be voting for Nader? BUT, I'm certainly Hillary won't mind in the least.

GravatarI know that Michigan and Florida are likely pissed. Hell, I'm in Virginia, we go way late, on Super Tuesday, or what used to be that. But we didn't cry about Iowa voting first, and then piss around when the DNC punished us for breaking the clearly set out rules.

Gravatar pack up Maddy's clothes that no longer fit her to take to the Goodwill.

I'm not sure if he's out of the bullpen yet.

GravatarVicki, coming from you, that is pretty disappointing.

Why, pie? I think it's pretty true from what I've read. Granholm and Levin are vocal Clinton supporters. I've always felt that Granholm was interested in moving the primary forward to help Clinton. I do believe that Levin's motives were different, and for him, it was about the unfairness of Iowa and New Hampshire always going first.

My feelings about this have been pretty clear. I still feel, and I have from the beginning, that because the MI Democratic Party didn't play by the rules, the delegation should not have been seated at all.

She knew, he knew, we all knew that the votes weren't going to count - that's what we've been told for a year now. I don't know how you can change that. I voted knowing full well that my vote wasn't going to count.

This whole thing is a mess, on all levels, from the top down. The R&B Committee should have included a couple of early primary states this year, and they failed, too.

I'm glad they attempted a compromise, but it still isn't an actual reflection of the votes on that day.

I am sorry that I disappointed you, though, pie. I didn't mean what I said in a malacious way; it's just how I see things.

Then he says, he finds out he's got a "growing problem," his prostrate's growing.

He asks his doctor, "what can we do about this?"

The doctor says, "hey, man, you're the one who shrinks things for a living."

So the guy makes a miniature model of his prostrate. Or something.

Gravatarsome guy who claims he works at a space museum and makes miniature models for a living. He shrinks things for a living. (Wonder where this ad is going?)

Then he says, he finds out he's got a "growing problem," his prostrate's growing.

He asks his doctor, "what can we do about this?"

The doctor says, "hey, man, you're the one who shrinks things for a living."

So the guy makes a miniature model of his prostrate. Or something.

Are you sure this wasn't a preview for the next David Cronenberg movie?

In fact, I don't know how much more explicit she could have been about this.
Thinking a compromise would resolve the matter, you'd have to assume you knew something about her motivations other than what she's been saying for months.

I can sort of agree we shouldn't go reading her mind.
So, indeed, let's listen to what she says.

Oh yeah, she's been saying for weeks that FL and MI should be seated as-is. Now we should be shocked - SHOCKED! - if she doesn't accept our Solomnic compromise? Sadly, no.

It's not an attack. You're arguing with a staw man.

She has been saying explicitly that FL and MI should be seated as is. So let's take her at her word - this compromise won't resolve the primary.
I am not saying this is a good or bad thing. But it is a reason why they shouldn't have bothered tossing principle out the window to reach what they thought would be a politically expedient compromise.

So do I. As I have been saying for the past several months, that unification will *BEGIN* to occur when Hillary pulls her head out of her egomaniac ass and bow out of this thing.

So if you want unification, you want Hillary to get the fuck out.

Otherwise you want something else like, uh, a fantasy world where everybody gets along because Hillary's just like every other politician.

probably a good guess. no more nor less. personally, i don't care much one way or another. i'd have been happy for them to say 'rules is rules' but that wasn't likely to happen. of course she was going to push for a full decision in her favor.

it's one of the things the dems forget when dealing with repubs over the last 8 years: you don't start out a contentious bargaining session with a "reasonable compromise" because the other side is going to make you move further towards them no matter what. so you start out demanding everything.

Gravatari want to see the bitterness end and democrats be united

The only "bitterness" among Democrats comes from the very tiny minority who breathe politics every second.

The vast majority of voters don't give a flying fuck about these purity sideshows. They just want to vote AGAINST THE REPUBLICAN and they don't care who the non-Republican is.

Both Obama and Clinton can attack each other from the left.

I recently read a lot of long-winded, passionate arguments from a Clinton supporter about why she's the better progressive candidate. It was a refreshing change from "He's unelectable, keep chasing that unity pony you hypnotized sheep."
And I agree, in some ways, she is the better progressive candidate. But not all, and I assume you realize that.

That's the frustrating part of this whole mess. Neither of these candidates is in the clear on the progressive bona fides. They are both essentially centrist, but in different ways. Maybe slightly left of center.

Gravatar

It's a fairly constant refrain here from the early days of the campaign that "nobody can say why Clinton did or does something -- it's just speculation." The "argument" is apparently supposed to blunt off attacks about her dumbass vote for the Iraq war or various other dumbass statements.

Yes, of course, we could wait for Hillary to say something before guessing at what she's going to say. On the other hand, we don't have to. It's not "better" to wait. Guessing what she's going to say or do next doesn't matter one way or the other except ... it's fun. It keeps things interesting. It shows how predictable her behavior is, or isn't.

GravatarIt's my understanding that Obama is a MAC, and Hillary Clinton is a PC.

GravatarShe has said she'll start bringing the troops home. He's said what?

No wonder the media love him.

That he's also bringing the troops home?

And if you think the media 'loves' him, you are watching something other than the MSM.

Gravatarthis is true, and i still think many of them aren't dems to begin with.

I don't think I'd say that. I'm including most internet junkies (including me) in that group.

+24 net for Clinton.

and then?

and then what then?

GravatarWhy don't you read about his plan to withdraw from Iraq at his website and find out?

You do realize that calls to go to his website to read about policy have become a joke, right?

GravatarObama's live on Faux.

GravatarPeace (and I mean it, dammit!!).

Them's fightin' words!

What was the point?

Trying to figure out the lay of the land before the convention, probably.

GravatarThey should have wrapped up the meeting in ten minutes and then used the other 9 hours and all the press attention to attack McBush.

Then I'd be convinced of this unity thing.

That's the frustrating part of this whole mess. Neither of these candidates is in the clear on the progressive bona fides. They are both essentially centrist, but in different ways. Maybe slightly left of center.

Word. And that's why Clinton sucks compared to Obama. He's not a Clinton and he was opposed to the war.

GravatarA job worthy of her qualifications, talent and experience!

Gromit dear, that's sweet, but Mummy died in 1984.....  I didn't do my job well enough to keep the cancer from killing her.

GravatarObama throwing his church under the bus.

Obama has attended this church and supported it with donations running into tens of thousands of dollars. He's told us the church and its pastor emeritus, Wright, where CENTRAL to his development as a man, and as a politician.

I find it impossible to believe that one so involved in this church and its welfare, does not share its philosophy. Of course he does. That is HIS world view, too. It must be, because no one in their right mind would put that sort of effort, and become that intimate with a sect for 20 years, and NOT share its outlook on the world.

GravatarOh, just fucking fantastic. Some Irish singer on PBS. All I wanted was a little Antiques Road Show and some British comedies.

Nim, ham hock of liberty

Nim, there ain't a dime slot bit of difference between them on issues. The difference has been on campaign skills and Sen. Obama has kicked Sen. Clinton's backside in that respect.

We're going to have a DLC President (dog willing), so we had better start focussing on Congressional races.

GravatarS H E E T S

(PS Can a Church fit under a bus?)

GravatarI just don't believe that it's a good strategy.

Sorry, but I'm not getting this. What's not a good strategy?

And it's not a good enough reason to nominate the less qualified person.

There's no single reason that Obama would be the nominee, apart from his accumulating the minimum required number of delegates first.

I don't mean that I think Obama should be the nominee because I care about the downticket races. I mean that I don't care whether Obama or Clinton is the nominee, and I've cared about the downticket races all along. If that makes sense.

GravatarGuessing what she's going to say or do next doesn't matter one way or the other except ... it's fun. It keeps things interesting. It shows how predictable her behavior is, or isn't.
Stunt Woman | 05.31.08 - 8:03 pm | #

i guess i see a difference between guessing what she is likely to say and attacking her for it before she has. and that's what i've perceived happening.

i haven't defended clinton on the basis you said, and i am not a clinton supporter. i'm a far left progressive semi-socialist hippie who believes in an immediate end to u.s. hostilities in the mid east, a constitutional amendment guaranteeing the rights of gay couples to marry, and a 100% universal not-for-profit government run and funded health care system. which it doesn't look like we are going to get.

but otoh, i feel perfectly at ease defending either clinton or obama from unwarranted attacks either based in what they might say or misinterpretations of what they have.

GravatarToo bad Obama stopped debating. Now we hear about soundbites at fundraisers.

That didn't stop Hillary from putting her foot in her mouth.

GravatarWord. And that's why Clinton sucks compared to Obama. He's not a Clinton and he was opposed to the war.
Stunt Woman | 05.31.08 - 8:07 pm

kucinich and dodd are the only democrats who have taken any positive steps to actually end the war, and even those have been barely more than symbolic

face it, we are arguing over a couple of centrists

GravatarHe's not a Clinton and he was opposed to the war.

Opposed in his living room? Or just 'cause he said so.

He wasn't there to vote. Don't tell me what he would have done.

That's the weakest reason to vote for the man. It goes down from there.

Why? It is a longstanding joke in the sense that trolls - not that I would think you are one - are constantly coming demanding answers to elemental questions about Obama's policies which are available at his website. Do you really believe in the last six months we've heard nothing about Obama's plans for Iraq?

WHO got Boston?????????

GravatarThe vote is the biggest red herring of all. Hillary Clinton didn't simply vote to authorize force, she was supported invading Iraq in 2003. Obama opposed it and spoke out against it.

I always wondered why every Democrat that voted for the war gets a free pass, and she doesn't. His campagin is stacked with people that voted for the war, but thats ok too. It's not like her vote was the decider, but somehow she was in Iraq flying sorties and dumping bombs out the hatch in alot of peoples minds.

Gravatarres, please do forward!

French Bulldog? Cool!
That must be what I saw the other day. It looked like a very large Boston

GravatarI am absolutely f*king amazed! I have trusted you atriots to be on top of things. the republican controlled FL State Legislature chose the date for the primary. They f*ked the dems over and if HRC is hip to that and ticked off about it, are we going to be suckers about it?

Not until all the poison in this country is seen by all of it's people, will we ever have any real change for the better. When the man comes to the door with a gun, we'll have a real people's revolution.

Obama is just another member in a long list of phonies.
