I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Gravatarman, we need him in the Senate!

be well Ed!

GravatarResisting an illegal war.

GravatarBest wishes for my senator.

GravatarHi, all.

So sorry to hear about Sen. Kennedy. Best wishes for his recovery.

Gravatara well-informed, prominent Democratic source in that state

That seems cryptic ...

GravatarHope that he's doing well. If stroke is caught early, really amazing recovery is possible.

GravatarBest wishes for a speedy & full recovery

GravatarA stroke is a very serious thing, but can be recovered from.

GravatarTake care Senator.

Gravatarawwww crap

GravatarDon't listen to the pricks.

GravatarThe wingnuts will be cheering at this news. They thrive on other people's misery.

sad

GravatarInterestingly, Timmeh has Ted Sorenson discussing his time with Jack Kennedy right now.

Gravatarshoot, here's to Ted's speedy recovery.

Gravatartrue plantsman, but Kennedy is 76 and not a health nut. Hopefully, it was a minor one.

Gravatarman, I hope he gets better soon. Teddy is a fighting Dem, and we need more fighting Dems in the Senate.

Gravatarrove said obama: were not aliens. Means what? we behave likem, but we know our rights?

Gravatarbest vibes to the Senator from MA

GravatarIncidentally, I missed the WOTD post, but you already know, I'm sure, that Glenn Reynolds is a Hall of Famer and ranks second only to Fred Hiatt in number of awards.

GravatarAnd I'm most certainly not a 'he'.

(Checks shirt)

They're still there!

(As if my bra bill and femine hygiene products bill weren't dead giveaways).

Gravatarfrom below - the 911 call came from the Kenneday compound at 8:19 - I'm taking his survival this long as a good sign.
I was a a fundraiser for him at my firm several years ago - he told a great story about meeting a baker covered in flour and sugar in his first campaign - he said "my opponent says I haven't worked a day in my life - the baker shook my hand heartily and said - "you haven't missed a thing!"

Gravatartrying to be hopeful. I had my stoke at 50, and was surely not a heath nut.

GravatarJP, do you know anything about the piagio (sp?) 3 wheeled scooter.

Are they ever going to release it into the US?

Gravatarman, I hope he gets better soon. Teddy is a fighting Dem, and we need more fighting Dems in the Senate.

Well . . .

GravatarBest wishes to Sen. Kennedy for a speedy recovery.

GravatarHang tough Teddy

GravatarThe pre-primary reporting period closes at midnight on the 21st.

GravatarI saw him speak about a year ago. He even took time to pose for pictures with people even though we aren't in his state.

Well, they have such shitty nothing lives....

Gravatarone of my early memories was the RFK campaign, and how despondent my folks were when he was assasinated. I can remember more than one person saying at the time "we only have Teddy now."

GravatarMass General is a brilliant hospital, if one must be in one.

Gravatardid you see Robert F Jr on Letterman last night? He was pretty good. The Kennedy genes are wery strong!

GravatarNews bimbo on MSNBC actually asked Pat Buchanan if Kennedy's illness will screw Obama's chances in November.

I'm speechless in the face of such stupidity...

GravatarAll that fighting, especially when you have to compensate for the cowardice of others, has to take its toll.

Godspeed, Senator.

GravatarUhoh.

Gravatartrue plantsman, but Kennedy is 76 and not a health nut. Hopefully, it was a minor one.
trifecta

He's tough!

Good thoughts out to Senator Kennedy.

GravatarAlex Witless is profoundly stupid.

GravatarGet well soon, Senator.  You're needed more than ever.

GravatarCape Cod Hospital ain't chopped liver, either, but Mass General is tops, no doubt.

plantsman, less blue

Being a health nut is no guarantee against a health crisis.

GravatarBest wishes going out from here.

Repeating here what I said at LG&M regarding the Reynolds wanker post:

I'd hereby like to petition to remove Mr. Reynolds from wanker of the day.

Only so it can be awarded instead to NPR, where on All Right Wing Memes Considered yesterday they asked if the decision might help McCain.

They had on exactly one outsider to discuss it. She was from Concerned Women for America.

Nuff said? Reynolds is an asshole whom few people think is neutral. NPR, on the other hand...

GravatarNews bimbo on MSNBC actually asked Pat Buchanan if Kennedy's illness will screw Obama's chances in November.

They are grasping at straws.

GravatarMass General is a brilliant hospital, if one must be in one.

Yes. He's in good hands, there. And, Cape Cod hospital is in Hyannis so that's a good thing too.

I hope we hear some good news, soon.

GravatarMedia Roundup for the Week:

Obama showed greater media savy & toughness then I've ever seen him display, as he responded to Bush's appeasement speech in Jerusalem. Linking McCain to Bush & ridiculing it was terrific. Hopefully, this is the GE Obama.

I've greatly admired Hillary's campaign style through the primaries & its the way you need to campaign to win in the GE. You don't back down against the media narrative or the RW slime machine. She gets it. Watching McCauliffe go on the counter offensive on Chris Matthews - I'm sure you're having a tingle going up your leg - is the epitomy of the Hillary campaign.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THESE TACTICS ARE BEING USED AGAINST A FELLOW DEMOCRAT IN THE PRIMARIES (Its possible one can't turn a campaign style on & off but it has definitely been to the detriment of Obama).

Undercover officers posing as a 13-year-old girl communicated with 52-year-old Joe Barron of Plano for about two weeks. The online conversations were sexual in nature, police said.

GravatarBest wishes for a speedy recovery for the nation's best senator. Ted is where the Democratic Party used to be & hopefully to where it'll return.

GravatarI think of Mary Jo Kopechne once in a while. I had two OUIs for which I was arrested, and hundreds of others that passed unnoticed by the constabulary. It was pure blind luck that I didn't kill myself, somebody I love, or someone loved by someone else. I'd guess Ted Kennedy thinks of her sometimes, too. Her death should not be a political issue. It should be a human one, as, for instance, Laura Bush's auto accident resulting in death is acknowledged by the right to be.

And Ted's hugely knowledgeable voice and legislative skill would be hard indeed to replace as a Democrat takes the White House and, at long last, tries to address the distortions, inadequacies, stupidities, injustices and expense of what passes for the American health care system. As a human being, and as a selfish person with an agenda, both, I wish him speedy recovery.

A googlesearch on something once led me to a fifth-rate wingnut blogger's site. His latest two posts were these: One, a drawn-out little piece of fiction that has Ted dreaming he's in the fatal car, where in the end the devil takes the wheel and drowns him and sends him to hell. Sending him to hell, of course, for an accidental death.

The other post: gleeful repeating some joke about Teheran getting nuked.

The pathetic wingnuts in a nutshell. Fuck every last one of them.

GravatarWhat is the male equivalent of "bimbo"? Male cable news hosts says things just as stupid, but we don't have that handy word for them...

Hhhmmmm. Maybe I'm just a bit hyperaware of the sexism in our society right about now....

An interesting word, bimbo, in that it ends in the usually male indicative vowel, but applies mostly (or only?) to females. From Wiki:

Bimbo is a term that emerged in popular English language usage in the early 20th Century to describe an often attractive, yet unintelligent woman. The usage of this term began in the United States as early as 1919. The 1929 silent film, Desert Nights, describes a cheap female crook as a bimbo. This word derives from the Italian bimbo, a word of masculine gender that means (male) baby or very young (male) child (its feminine equivalent is bimba). The 50’s song “Bimbo”, about a toddler, was one of the early hits for the popular American singer Jim Reeves. Its first usage in English was for stupid men; it now is understood to mean a woman unless modified as male bimbo, himbo, or mimbo. Some still prefer the explicitly female variant bimbette, which has also entered The American Heritage Dictionary. Others use bimbette for a younger bimbo, because the suffix "-ette" signifies a smaller version as in French or Spanish "-ito/-ita" suffix.

Somehow, "himbo" just doesn't do it for me.

GravatarYour friends are serving their country bravely

GravatarFReeper sez Kennedy "led a disgraceful life":

The man has led a disgraceful life, championed using other people's money to pay for abortion while claiming he's a good Catholic; he caused a woman to die way before her time while doing nothing to save her, yet in doing so he was a living example to Liberals everywhere who found this sort of self-indulgent and negligent behavior cool. May he get well quickly and continue to live a life that reminds us all just how reckless Liberalism is in one's personal life's and in government policies.

You should burn in hell for your intemperate remarks.

Gravatarellroon: well, yes, I was being circumspect, but I surely meant folk to recall that Bush and Cheney have, er, histories.

For that matter, most drinkers do. The majority of people who drink 'socially' drive impaired from time to time, and all drinkers know it.

TerryC: Kennedy as a legislator is one of the most productive and decent politicians we've had. And he's famous for being able to work with Republicans. I'm not sure the failure of his presidential aspirations was, on balance, a loss; he's been superb in the Senate over decades.

GravatarHhhmmmm. Maybe I'm just a bit hyperaware of the sexism in our society right about now....

An interesting word, bimbo, in that it ends in the usually male indicative vowel, but applies mostly (or only?) to females. From Wiki:

GravatarLaura Bush's Dead Boyfriend: you'd owe me a Coke, if you weren't dead.

And the point isn't that it's OK, or to be glib about people's deaths. They're human tragedies. They shouldn't be political issues. The bankruptcy of turning them into political issues is revealed by the right's glibness over Kopechne and silence over Laura's fatality, and the left's blithe dismissal of Kopechne and gleeful remembrance of Laura's fatality. Neither stance, I would submit, does credit to its holder.

---------------------
Okay, I do have to be honest enough to admit that Kopechne's death amounted to more than an accident. He walked away and didn't report for 10 hours. Her body was found floating in the back seat of the overturned car. In other words she didn't drown, she suffocated in an airpocket that was in all likelood large enough to last her long enough for him to go to a nearby house and call for help.

I don't know if I would call her death murder, but it wasn't just an accidental death either. I'm a democrat, but I do think that justice was denied Mary Jo Kopechne.

1.)she's not an elected official

and

2.) no crime was involved (drunk driving) that resulted in death (ie felony murder) and leaving the scene of an accident!
