Wow, what a load of fucking shit that Post article is:
...according to allies inside and outside the White House, Bush's mood remains buoyant and his attention is focused on the global financial collapse. In private meetings with business leaders, Bush has made a point of saying that he is happy the crisis happened on his watch so the next president and a new economic team do not have to grapple with it.
The fuck he is. And "buoyant" = "drunk".
"His high energy level and spirit sets the tone for the rest of us," said Kevin Sullivan, Bush's communications director. "There's been no time to worry about any of this other stuff. . . . He believes the American people expect us to finish strong and to leave things in the best possible position for his successor."
Like I said: dead drunk.
Others inside and outside the administration, however, say the upbeat talk masks disappointment and frustration among many White House staffers, who believe Bush's reputation has been unfairly maligned for a series of calamities -- from the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to the financial crisis -- that were beyond his control and which he handled well. GOP nominee John McCain's escalating attacks on Bush's tenure have added to irritation, these people said.
"Everybody kind of wanted to spend the last 100-plus days doing some legacy things, and the financial crisis has thrown a wrench into that," said one prominent Republican who regularly talks with senior White House officials.
"You have a combination of no legacy stuff, a horrible economic mess and the likelihood that Obama is going to win," this person added. "There is a real sadness there."
I like stuck like a pit bleeding. It has possibilities.

Out of the McCain, only 121 are "safe" while 39 lean.
Obama, 203 safe, 88 lean.
McCain has only 121 he can count on, with 39 in reserve. Obama can nearly count on his leans and some of the battlegrounds to get to victory.

If the best political team on the planet really were that, then they would have GA listed as a battleground. With the black early vote turnout at 35%, the total black turnout could be over 31% if only 70,000 more blacks vote on Nov. 4 in GA, while the total vote goes 1/3 more than the 2004 vote. In the case of a 31% or better black turnout in GA, then McCain's chance are slim at best, and slim better describes Obama.

It could happen, but I hope not. I predict the networks call it for Team Blue at 8:01PM after California voting ends and Team Blue puts another 55 points on the board.

Ask him what age we're supposed to give it up.
Then ask him if it's ok if Michele and Barack Do It

ms fahrenheit/camelot: I'm sorry you had to deal with a racist.
Living my whole life in KY and TN, it's surely not the first, or last time.
I politely thanked the idiot, disconnected, and made a note of it in the call comments before I submitted it.

being silent and keeping powder dry hasn't worked for us at all, imho. it's time to adopt a winning strategy. it worked for the fundies, so it can work for us. and we're smarter.
chicago dyke, rake
Obama's approach is the winning strategy we've been waiting for. Just you watch. What we need to do is create a real, lasting change in the attitudes of the public. That, IMOHO, does not come from having show trials or calling members of your own party Vichy bitches. It comes from giving people who were in the wrong a face-saving opportunity to come back to the right.

Screaming "we're fucked" and "they're dead to me" has not worked that well either.

OK, I got email from a certain princess of the law, who is known by three initials, asking for my guess re: the EV.
After some thought and some bonding with Nate's site, I think the following.
I think MO and IN go Red, FL and VA go Blue, OH Blue, PA Blue. (This wrecks MO's always going with the winner. Tough.) I think NC goes Blue, but that's a stretch.
Team Blue: 353; Team Red: 185.

Referring to the map at Electoral-Vote.com, if Obama wins all the dark blue states, he then only needs 6 more electoral votes to win the election. For example, all the dark blue states plus:
Virginia
... OR
Colorado
... OR
Ohio
... OR
Nevada combined with any other single state.
I'll take those odds. The big question in my mind now is whether the Pubs can win by a combination of suppression and cheating on the counts. No poll can quantify that possibility.

Maybe my B Ed. in Math from the Univ of Wisconsin is failing me, but if that is the list of "battlegrounds", then the battle has already been decided.
McCain could win ALL of them and still would lose the White House.
That's some battle.
Robert Earle |

If those are the battlegrounds, then Obama's already the winner with Iowa and Virginia.
