Detroit is a good team but they are too passive. That is their problem as far as I can see. They have the most highly skilled players in the league but only if the other team does not touch their forwards. And their D-men are of the same variety with the exception of Chellios. Lidstrom and Kronwall are great skaters and passers. The new guy seems to bring a little toughness but they need someone back there to make forwards fear. They do not have that. They need forwards big and strong enough to take on the Chris Prongers of the league - they do not have them at this time. (Did you see that goon was suspended for eight games again?)
That is why I am amazed that they might not want to bring up my son's friend from MSU. Justin is just EXACTLY what they need. 6'2" 220 lbs and he is fast and LOVES to kick your ass when he is playing. And he is skilled with the puck and his shot is heavy. Get some of that hard, yet flexible, plastic tubing they sell at Home Depot-type stores. Cheaper and comes in all different widths.
